ABSTRACT

Traditional artificial vision systems built using separate sensing, computing, and storage units have problems with high power consumption and latency caused by frequent data transmission between functional units. An effective approach is to transfer some memory and computing tasks to the sensor, enabling the simultaneous perception-storage-processing of light signals. Here, an optical-electrical coordinately modulated memristor is proposed, which controls the conductivity by means of polarization of the 2D ferroelectric Ruddlesden-Popper perovskite film at room temperature. The residual polarization shows no significant decay after 109-cycle polarization reversals, indicating that the device has high durability. By adjusting the pulse parameters, the device can simulate the bio-synaptic long/short-term plasticity, which enables the control of conductivity with a high linearity of ≈0.997. Based on the device, a two-layer feedforward neural network is built to recognize handwritten digits, and the recognition accuracy is as high as 97.150%. Meanwhile, building optical-electrical reserve pool system can improve 14.550% for face recognition accuracy, further demonstrating its potential for the field of neural morphological visual systems, with high density and low energy loss.

ABSTRACT

Ammonia stress in aquaculture systems poses a great threat to the growth and survival of the Pacific whiteleg shrimp Litopenaeus vannamei. Although the ammonia stress tolerance capacity of L. vannamei has been found to vary significantly among different breeding families, the underneath mechanisms are still largely unknown. In this study, the ammonia tolerance capacity of different L. vannamei breeding families was compared. Results confirmed the significant differences in the ammonia adaptability among different families. To ascertain the underlying adaptive strategies, ATP status, ATP synthase activity, expression and activities of ammonia excretion and metabolism-related enzymes, and apoptosis in shrimp gills were analyzed. Furthermore, transcriptomic analyses were also performed to elucidate the molecular mechanisms. Our results indicated that ammonia-tolerant L. vannamei may possess (1) enhanced ability to excrete ammonia, (2) better capacity to convert ammonia into less toxic products, and (3) sufficient energy reserves for ammonia-compensating processes.

ABSTRACT

Racquet sports can provide positive benefits for human healthcare. A reliable detection device that can effectively distinguish movement with similar sub-features is therefore needed. In this paper, a racquet sports recognition wristband system and a multilayer hybrid clustering model are proposed to achieve reliable activity recognition and perform number counting. Additionally, a Bluetooth mesh network enables communication between a phone and wristband, and sets-up the connection between multiple devices. This allows users to track their exercise through the phone and share information with other players and referees. Considering the complexity of the classification algorithm and the user-friendliness of the measurement system, the improved multi-layer hybrid clustering model applies three-level K-means clustering to optimize feature extraction and segmentation and then uses the density-based spatial clustering of applications with noise (DBSCAN) algorithm to determine the feature center of different movements. The model can identify unlabeled and noisy data without data calibration and is suitable for smartwatches to recognize multiple racquet sports. The proposed system shows better recognition results and is verified in practical experiments.
