ABSTRACT

The high concentration of chloride ions in desulphurization wastewater is the primary limiting factor for its reusability. Monovalent anion selective electrodialysis (S-ED) enables the selective removal of chloride ions, thereby facilitating the reuse of desulfurization wastewater. In this study, different concentrations of NaCl and Na2SO4 were used to simulate different softened desulfurization wastewater. The effects of current density and NaCl and Na2SO4 concentration on ion flux, permselectivity (PSO42-Cl-) and specific energy consumption were studied. The results show that Selemion ASA membrane exhibits excellent permselectivity for Cl- and SO42-, with a significantly lower flux observed for SO42- compared to Cl-. Current density exerts a significant influence on ion flux; as the current density increases, the flux of SO42- also increases but at a lower rate than that of Cl-, resulting in an increase in permselectivity. When the current density reaches 25 mA/cm2, the permselectivity reaches a maximum of 50.4. The increase in NaCl concentration leads to a decrease in the SO42- flux; however, the permselectivity is reduced due to the elevated Cl-/SO42- ratio. The SO42- flux increases with the increase in Na2SO4 concentration, while the permselectivity increases with the decrease in Cl-/SO42- ratio.

ABSTRACT

BACKGROUND: Recently, periumbilical fat (PF) mass, an autologous material with a high survival rate, has been transplanted to treat sunken or dissatisfactory double eyelids. However, the intricate complications of PF grafts and associated reconstructive strategies are infrequently discussed. METHODS: During 3 years, 20 patients (33 eyes) with eyelid malformations caused by PF grafts into the orbital septum or on the surface of the levator aponeurosis underwent corrective blepharoplasty. We recorded patients' subjective feelings and identified deformities from crease abnormalities, bloated appearance, and problems with the eyelid's height. Then, we categorize them into three types based on their complexity: type I, swollen appearance; type II, obvious adhesion; type III, severe comprehensive damage. The relevant management included removing fat implants, releasing the adhesion, and rebuilding the physical structure according to the anatomic damage mechanism. The improvement effect was assessed with a satisfaction survey from patients and doctors at 6 months of follow-up. RESULTS: The swollen appearance was observed in 26 eyes (78.8%), an unsmooth double-eyelid line was in 23 eyes (69.7%), and the incidence of adhesion was in 22 eyes (66.7%). Following a comprehensive evaluation, 15 eyes (45.5%) and 13 (39.4%) were classified as type I and type II respectively. After the 6-month follow-up, 22 eyes (66.7%) showed exceptional aesthetic results, whereas only 2 eyes as type III had a poor outcome. CONCLUSIONS: The deformities emerging from periumbilical fat into the upper eyelid are associated with the shape of the fat and the adhesion in tissues. Graft removal, adhesion release, and restoration of the natural anatomic structure can have positive outcomes.

ABSTRACT

BACKGROUND: With the rapid development of medical treatment, many patients not only consider the survival time, but also care about the quality of life. Changes in physical, psychological and social functions after and during treatment have caused a lot of troubles to patients and their families. Based on the bio-psycho-social medical model theory, mental health plays an important role in treatment. Therefore, it is necessary for medical staff to know the diseases which have high potential to cause psychological trauma and social avoidance (PTSA). RESULTS: Firstly, we obtained diseases which can cause PTSA from literatures. Then, we calculated the similarities of related-diseases to build a disease network. The similarities between diseases were based on their known related genes. Then, we obtained these diseases-related proteins from UniProt. These proteins were extracted as the features of diseases. Therefore, in the disease network, each node denotes a disease and contains the information of its related proteins, and the edges of the network are the similarities of diseases. Then, graph convolutional network (GCN) was used to encode the disease network. In this way, each disease's own feature and its relationship with other diseases were extracted. Finally, Xgboost was used to identify PTSA diseases. CONCLUSION: We developed a novel method 'GCN-Xgboost' and compared it with some traditional methods. Using leave-one-out cross-validation, the AUC and AUPR were higher than some existing methods. In addition, case studies have been done to verify our results. We also discussed the trajectory of social avoidance and distress during acute survival of breast cancer patients.

ABSTRACT

Circular RNA (circRNA) is a key regulator in the development and progression of human cancers. Previous studies confirmed circRNA-0008717 (circABCB10) as an oncogene in osteosarcoma, but the regulatory effect of circABCB10 in nonsmall cell lung cancer (NSCLC) is still unclear. In the current study, we examined the expression of circABCB10 in different NSCLC cell lines. Bioinformatics analysis, Cell Counting Kit-8 assays, Transwell migration, fluorescein reporting experiments, and xenografts in mice were used to detect the effect of circABCB10 on NSCLC cell proliferation and migration in vitro and tumor growth in vivo. The results showed that the expression of circABCB10 in NSCLC cell lines was increased. Downregulation of circABCB10 suppressed NSCLC cell proliferation and migration by promoting microRNA miR-1252 expression and suppressing Forkhead box 2 (FOXR2). Fluorescein reporting experiments confirmed that circABCB10 expression increased FOXR2 levels by sponging miR-1252, and in vivo experiments found that knockdown of circABCB10 decreased tumor growth. These data suggested that circABCB10 acted as a tumor promoter through a novel miR-1252/FOXR2 axis, providing potential biomarkers and therapeutic targets for the management of NSCLC.

ABSTRACT

The nerve entry points (NEPs) cannot be accurately localized for the treatment of muscle spasticity in neurolysis. The aim of this study was to develop a new method of accurately localizing nerve entry points in relation to bony landmarks. NEPs in human cadavers were coated with barium sulfate. Method 1 consisted of horizontal and longitudinal reference lines being designated based on bony landmarks, followed by radiography and measurements using picture archiving and communication system software. Method 2 involved sewing the barium sulfate-soaked suture thread into the skin to designate the horizontal and longitudinal reference lines, followed by computed tomography (CT) scanning to determine the skin surface location and puncture depth for the NEPs. Using method 1, the bony landmarks and nerve muscular branches labeled with barium sulfate were clearly visualized by radiography. NEPs were localized using the reference lines, but the resultant points were not on the skin surface, and information was not provided regarding puncture depth. Method 2 resulted in the bony landmarks, NEPs, and reference lines being clearly visualized using CT imaging. The NEPs were successfully projected onto the skin surface and localized using reference lines that were measured along the curve of the skin. Furthermore, method 2 provided measurements of puncture depth. NEPs, including depths, can be accurately localized in cadavers using CT. Therefore, this novel method is recommended for localizing neurolysis target points.
