ABSTRACT

Non-uniformity is a long-standing problem that significantly degrades infrared images through fixed pattern noise (FPN). Existing scene-based algorithms for non-uniformity correction (NUC) effectively eliminate stripe FPN assuming consistent inter-frame non-uniformity. However, they are ineffective in handling spatially continuous optical FPN. In this paper, a scene-based dual domain correction approach is proposed to address the non-uniformity problem by simultaneously removing stripe and optics-caused FPN. We achieve this through gain correction in the frequency domain and offset correction in the spatial domain. To remove stripes, we approximate the desired image using a guided filter and iteratively update the bias correction parameters frame by frame. For optics-caused noise removal, we separate low frequency noise from the scene using Fourier transform and update the gain correction parameters accordingly. To mitigate ghost artifacts, a combined strategy is introduced to adaptively adjusts learning rates and weights during the updating stage. Comprehensive evaluations demonstrate that our proposed approach outperforms compared methods in both real and simulated non-uniformity infrared videos.

ABSTRACT

Distiller's grain is rich in natural active ingredients and can be used as an excellent antioxidant feed for goats. The current study aimed to assess the feeding value of four different types of distiller's grains with an in vitro gas production trial. The chemical composition, total phenols, total anthocyanins, dry matter degradability, methane, hydrogen, and rumen fermentation parameters were evaluated. The results indicated that red distiller's grain and glutinous rice distiller's grain had higher (p < 0.05) levels of crude protein than the other two types. There were significantly (p < 0.05) higher concentrations of dry matter, ether extract, hemicellulose, and total carbohydrate in corn distiller's grain than in the other three types of distiller's grain. In addition, red distiller's grain showed a higher (p < 0.05) gas production rate constant (c) and ruminal outflow rate, as well as higher (p < 0.05) concentrations of total phenol, total anthocyanins and 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) scavenging activity, than the other three types of distiller's grains. In contrast, red distiller's grain displayed the lowest (p < 0.05) immediately soluble fraction (a) and half the time of maximum gas production relative to the other samples. In particular, the levels of methane (%) in white distiller's grain and glutinous rice distiller's grain were greater (p < 0.05) than that in red distiller's grain. Moreover, the ammonia nitrogen content in red distiller's grain was greater (p < 0.05) than that in white distiller's grain and corn distiller's grain. In contrast, red distiller's grain exhibited a lower (p < 0.05) level of ruminal fluid acetic acid relative to that found in white distiller's grain and corn distiller's grain. Taken together, the results showed that red distiller's grain and glutinous rice distiller's grain could be used as protein feed, red distiller's grain had higher levels of total phenols and total anthocyanins and a high DPPH scavenging activity; corn distiller's grain might be considered as an alternative energy source feed, and white distiller's grain exhibited higher total gas production.

ABSTRACT

This study investigated the effects of dietary supplementation with different levels of purple corn pigment (PCP) on the growth performance, blood biochemical indices, meat quality, muscle amino acids, and fatty acids of growing chickens. A total of 288 (8 weeks of age) growing Chishui black-bone chickens (body weight, 940 ± 80 g; mean ± standard deviation) were randomly divided into 4 groups using a completely randomized design. The four diet groups were as follows: (1) control, basal diet; (2) treatment 1, treatment 2, and treatment 3, which were basal diet with 80, 160, and 240 mg/kg PCP, respectively. The results showed that compared with the control group, the feeding of anthocyanins significantly (p < 0.05) increased the average daily feed intake and average daily gain in chickens. Moreover, chickens receiving 80 mg/kg PCP significantly increased (p < 0.05) plasma total antioxidant capacity, superoxide dismutase, glutathione peroxidase, catalase, high-density lipoprotein cholesterol, and albumin concentrations relative to the control group. For meat quality, dietary supplementation with PCP significantly (p < 0.05) reduced the drip loss and water loss rate in breast muscle. Additionally, chickens receiving PCP tended to increase (p < 0.05) the levels of most individual amino acids, essential amino acids, and umami amino acids in the muscle. Specifically, the addition of 80 mg/kg PCP significantly improved (p < 0.05) total polyunsaturated fatty acids in chicken muscle. Accordingly, the consumption of anthocyanin-rich PCP by the growing chickens had the potential to increase the growth performance, enhance antioxidant and immune capacities, increase meat quality, and improve essential and umami amino acids as well as unsaturated fatty acids in the muscle.

ABSTRACT

RESEARCH QUESTION: Does polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) affect pregnancy and neonatal outcomes after frozen-thawed embryo transfers (FET) using hormone replacement therapy (HRT) cycles or stimulated cycles? DESIGN: This was a retrospective cohort study in which singletons born to 1876 women with PCOS and 14,630 women without PCOS under the age of 38 years from 2010 to 2018 were analyzed at a tertiary care academic medical center. The main outcomes were gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM), pregnancy-induced hypertension, preterm premature rupture of membranes (PPROM) and early preterm birth (EPTB). RESULTS: Women with PCOS showed a higher risk of GDM (adjusted odds ratio [aOR] 1.71, 95% confidence interval [CI] 1.47-1.99), pregnancy-induced hypertension (aOR 1.46, 95% CI 1.13-1.90), PPROM (aOR 1.40, 95% CI 1.02-1.79) and EPTB (aOR 1.51, 95% CI 1.01-2.26) compared with mothers without PCOS. Considering that more PCOS received HRT cycles, subgroup analyses were performed separately for stimulated cycles and HRT cycles. PCOS was not correlated with PPROM and EPTB in the two subgroups. The rate of GDM, pregnancy-induced hypertension and EPTB among women with without PCOS using stimulated cycles appeared to be lower than in women without PCOS using HRT cycles. CONCLUSIONS: Although PCOS indeed confers independent risks for GDM and pregnancy-induced hypertension after FET compared with no PCOS, risks of other adverse outcomes (e.g. PPROM and EPTB) might be exaggerated owing to a higher proportion of HRT cycles used in PCOS.

ABSTRACT

Objectives: Painful diabetic peripheral neuropathy (DPN) is often refractory to conventional medications. Triple-nerve decompression was proposed for painful DPN due to the frequent involvement of multiple nerve entrapments in diabetes. However, the role of decompressive surgery remains controversial. This trial aims to assess the efficacy of triple-nerve decompression for patients with painful DPN suggestive of nerve entrapment using a randomized controlled trial (RCT) design. Methods and analysis: This trial is a single-center RCT and will be conducted in Shanghai Ninth People's Hospital. Enrolled subjects (n = 74) with painful DPN due to nerve compression, which can be detected by nerve conduction studies, will be randomly allocated at a 1:1 ratio into surgical and non-surgical groups. The primary outcome will be measured by 50% responder rates, which is defined as the proportion of subjects with at least 50% reduction of the mean weekly visual analog score (VAS) of pain from baseline after 6 months of treatment. Mean weekly VAS will be additionally evaluated 1 week (W1), 1 month (M1), and 3 months (M3) after treatment to monitor the changes in pain intensity. The secondary outcomes include two-point discrimination (TPD), Toronto clinical scoring system (TCSS), electrophysiological indexes, hospital anxiety and depression scale (HADS), and the medical outcome study short-form 36-item questionnaire (SF-36). A quantitative analgesic questionnaire (QAQ) will be used as a secondary outcome to quantify the analgesic medication weekly. TPD and TCSS will be conducted at W1, M1, M3, and M6 after treatment. Electrophysiological tests, HADS, and SF-36 will be performed at M3 and M6. Ethics and dissemination: Ethics approval has been obtained from the Ethics Committee of Shanghai Ninth People's Hospital (SH9H-2-21-T323-2). It was registered on the Chinese Clinical Trial Registry website (http://www.chictr.org.cn) on 16 August 2021 with the number ChiCTR2100050049. Written informed consent will be obtained from all participants. The results of this trial will be disseminated via peer-reviewed journals, mass media, and presentations at national and international academic conferences.

ABSTRACT

We present the first demonstration of visible emission from highly doped silica glass micro-ring resonators (MRRs) through a third-harmonic generation (THG) nonlinear process. We obtain green light conversion efficiency of 2.7×10-5 W-2 in a MRR with loaded Q-factor of 1.4×106 pumped in the telecom band. A thermal nonlinear model is developed to account for the in-cavity power dependence of the resonance detuning. Using the extracted thermal nonlinear coefficients, the measured TH resonance shift is calibrated by subtracting the thermal nonlinear-induced phase mismatch to obtain the theoretical threefold wavelength relationship along with the measured cubic power relationship.

ABSTRACT

Here we report a novel type of hierarchical mesoporous SnO2 nanostructures fabricated by a facile anodization method in a novel electrolyte system (an ethylene glycol solution of H2C2O4/NH4F) followed by thermal annealing at a low temperature. The SnO2 nanostructures thus obtained feature highly porous nanosheets with mesoporous pores well below 10 nm, enabling a remarkably high surface area of 202.8 m2/g which represents one of the highest values reported to date on SnO2 nanostructures. The formation of this novel type of SnO2 nanostructures is ascribed to an interesting self-assembly mechanism of the anodic tin oxalate, which was found to be heavily impacted by the anodization voltage and water content in the electrolyte. The electrochemical measurements of the mesoporous SnO2 nanostructures indicate their promising applications as lithium-ion battery and supercapacitor electrode materials.
