This study investigated the impact of rehabilitation exercise on functional recovery and morphological changes following thoracic contusive spinal cord injury. After a 7-day recovery period after spinal cord injury, mice were assigned to either a trained group (10 weeks of voluntary running wheel or forced treadmill exercise) or an untrained group. Bi-weekly assessments revealed that the exercise-trained group, particularly the voluntary wheel exercise subgroup, displayed significantly improved locomotor recovery, more plasticity of dopaminergic and serotonin modulation compared with the untrained group. Additionally, exercise interventions led to gait pattern restoration and enhanced transcranial magnetic motor-evoked potentials. Despite consistent injury areas across groups, exercise training promoted terminal innervation of descending axons. In summary, voluntary wheel exercise shows promise for enhancing outcomes after thoracic contusive spinal cord injury, emphasizing the role of exercise modality in promoting recovery and morphological changes in spinal cord injuries. Our findings will influence future strategies for rehabilitation exercises, restoring functional movement after spinal cord injury.

JOURNAL/nrgr/04.03/01300535-202505000-00029/figure1/v/2024-07-28T173839Z/r/image-tiff Schwann cell transplantation is considered one of the most promising cell-based therapy to repair injured spinal cord due to its unique growth-promoting and myelin-forming properties. A the Food and Drug Administration-approved Phase I clinical trial has been conducted to evaluate the safety of transplanted human autologous Schwann cells to treat patients with spinal cord injury. A major challenge for Schwann cell transplantation is that grafted Schwann cells are confined within the lesion cavity, and they do not migrate into the host environment due to the inhibitory barrier formed by injury-induced glial scar, thus limiting axonal reentry into the host spinal cord. Here we introduce a combinatorial strategy by suppressing the inhibitory extracellular environment with injection of lentivirus-mediated transfection of chondroitinase ABC gene at the rostral and caudal borders of the lesion site and simultaneously leveraging the repair capacity of transplanted Schwann cells in adult rats following a mid-thoracic contusive spinal cord injury. We report that when the glial scar was degraded by chondroitinase ABC at the rostral and caudal lesion borders, Schwann cells migrated for considerable distances in both rostral and caudal directions. Such Schwann cell migration led to enhanced axonal regrowth, including the serotonergic and dopaminergic axons originating from supraspinal regions, and promoted recovery of locomotor and urinary bladder functions. Importantly, the Schwann cell survival and axonal regrowth persisted up to 6 months after the injury, even when treatment was delayed for 3 months to mimic chronic spinal cord injury. These findings collectively show promising evidence for a combinatorial strategy with chondroitinase ABC and Schwann cells in promoting remodeling and recovery of function following spinal cord injury.

ABSTRACT

With glossy, wax-coated leaves, Rubus leucanthus is one of the few heat-tolerant wild raspberry trees. To ascertain the underlying mechanism of heat tolerance, we generated a high-quality genome assembly with a genome size of 230.9 Mb and 24,918 protein-coding genes. Significantly expanded gene families were enriched in the flavonoid biosynthesis pathway and the circadian rhythm-plant pathway, enabling survival in subtropical areas by accumulating protective flavonoids and modifying photoperiodic responses. In contrast, plant-pathogen interaction and MAPK signaling involved in response to pathogens were significantly contracted. The well-known heat response elements (HSP70, HSP90 and HSFs) were reduced in R. leucanthus compared to two other heat-intolerant species, R. chingii and R. occidentalis, with transcriptome profiles further demonstrating their dispensable roles in heat stress response. At the same time, three significantly positively selected genes in the pathway of cuticular wax biosynthesis were identified, and may contribute to the glossy, wax-coated leaves of R. leucanthus. The thick, leathery, waxy leaves protect R. leucanthus against pathogens and herbivores, supported by the reduced R gene repertoire in R. leucanthus (355) compared to R. chingii (376) and R. occidentalis (449). Our study provides some insights into adaptive divergence between R. leucanthus and other raspberry species on heat tolerance.

OBJECTIVE: To develop a computer-aided diagnostic system for retinopathy of prematurity (ROP) disease using retinal vessel morphological features. METHODS: A total of 200 fundus images from 136 preterm infants with stage 1 to 3 ROP were analysed. Two methods were developed to measure vessel tortuosity: the peak-and-valley method and the polynomial curve fitting method. Correlations between temporal artery tortuosity (TAT) and temporal vein tortuosity (TVT) with ROP severity were investigated, and vessel tortuosity relationships with vessel angles (TAA and TVA) and vessel widths (TAW and TVW). A separate dataset from Japan containing 126 images from 97 preterm patients was used for verification. RESULTS: Both methods identified similar tortuosity in images without ROP and mild ROP cases. However, the polynomial curve fit method demonstrated enhanced tortuosity detection in stages 2 and 3 ROP compared to the peak and valley method. A strong positive correlation was revealed between ROP severity and increased arterial and venous tortuosity (P < 0.0001). A significant negative correlation between TAA and TAT (r = -0.485, P < 0.0001) and TVA and TVT (r = -0.281, P < 0.0001), and a significant positive correlation between TAW and TAT (r = 0.204, P value = 0.0040) were identified. Similar results were found in the test dataset from Japan. CONCLUSIONS: ROP severity was associated with increased retinal tortuosity and retinal vessel width while displaying a decrease in retinal vascular angle. This quantitative analysis of retinal vessels provides crucial insights for advancing ROP diagnosis and understanding its progression.

To develop novel food-grade Pickering emulsion stabilizers, insoluble rice bran protein-polysaccharide-phenol natural complex (IRBPPP) was prepared into Pickering emulsion stabilizers after different mechanical pretreatments (shear, high-pressure homogenization, ultrasonic, and combined mechanical pretreatment). With the increase in mechanical pretreatment types, the covalent binding of proteins and polysaccharides in IRBPPP gradually enhanced, the breakage efficiency of IRBPPP gradually increased (IRBPPP particle size decreased from 220.54 to 67.89 µm, the specific surface area of IRBPPP particle increased from 993.47 to 2033.86 cm-1/g), and the microstructure of IRBPPP gradually showed an orderly network structure, which enhanced the IRBPPP dispersion stability and the Pickering emulsion stability. Pickering emulsion stability was highly correlated (P < 0.01) with the breakage efficiency of IRBPPP particles. Overall, the combined mechanical pretreatment improved the stability of the IRBPPP-stabilized Pickering emulsion. The study added value to rice bran products and offered a new way to create stable food-grade Pickering emulsions for functional foods using natural protein-polysaccharide-phenol complex particles.

AIMS: Deep brain stimulation (DBS) is not routinely performed in elderly patients (≥75 years old) to date because of concerns about complications and decreased benefit. This study aimed to evaluate the safety and efficacy of DBS in elderly patients with Parkinson's disease. METHODS: A retrospective analysis was performed using data from 40 elderly patients from four centers who were treated with neurosurgical robot-assisted DBS between September 2016 and December 2021. These patients were followed up for a minimum period of 2 years, with a subgroup of nine patients followed up for 5-7 years. Patient demographic characteristics, surgical information, pre- and postoperative motor scores, non-motor scores, activities of daily living, and complications were retrospectively analyzed. RESULTS: The mean surgical procedure duration was 1.65 ± 0.24 h, with a mean electrode implantation duration of 1.10 ± 0.23 h and a mean pulse generator implantation duration of 0.55 ± 0.07 h. The mean pneumocephalus volume, electrode fusion error, and Tao's DBS surgery scale were 16.23 ± 12.81 cm3, 0.81 ± 0.23 mm, and 77.63 ± 8.08, respectively. One patient developed a skin infection, and the device was removed. The Unified Parkinson's disease rating scale, Unified Parkinson's disease rating scale of Part III, tremor, rigidity, bradykinesia, axial, and Barthel index for activities of daily living (ADL-Barthel) scores significantly improved at the 2-year follow-up (p < 0.05). The levodopa equivalent daily dose (LEDD) was significantly reduced at the 2-year follow-up (p < 0.05). However, the Montreal cognitive assessment, Hamilton depression scale, and Hamilton anxiety scale scores did not significantly change during the 2-year follow-up (p > 0.05). Additionally, in the subgroup with a 5-year follow-up, the motor symptoms, ADL-Barthel score, and cognitive function worsened over time compared to baseline. However, there was still an improvement in motor symptoms and ADL with DBS on-stimulation compared with the off-stimulation state. The LEDD increased 5 years after surgery compared to that at baseline. Eleven patients had passed away during follow-up, the mean survival time was 38.3 ± 17.3 months after surgery, and the mean age at the time of death was 81.2 (range 75-87) years. CONCLUSION: Robot-assisted DBS surgery for the elderly patients with Parkinson's disease is accurate and safe. Motor symptoms and ADL significantly improve and patients can benefit from long-term neuromodulation, which may decrease the risk of death.

Ralstonia solanacearum (Rso) causes destructive bacterial wilt across a broad range of host plants by delivering a repertoire of type III effectors. In the present study, we determined that the deletion of the type III effector RipAF1 resulted in increased virulence on Nicotiana benthamiana, Solanum lycopersicum, and Capsicum annuum plants. RipAF1 showed ADP-ribosylation activity in vivo and in vitro. Transient overexpression of RipAF1 suppressed jasmonic acid (JA) signaling and induced salicylic acid (SA) signaling. The ADP-ribosylation activity of RipAF1 was essential for JA and SA signaling mediation. Host fibrillin FBN1 was identified as a RipAF1-interactor that is ADP-ribosylated by RipAF1 directly. Most importantly, the ADP-ribosylation of conserved residues of FBN1 contributes to its localization to the plasma membrane and leads to the suppression of JA signaling and induction of SA signaling. We concluded that RipAF1 mediates antagonistic crosstalk between JA and SA signaling pathways by ADP-ribosylation of FBN1.

Introduction: Lacrimal gland adenoid cystic carcinoma (LGACC) is characterized by a high rate of recurrence, perineural invasion, and propensity for distant metastasis, resulting in poor prognosis. This case report aimed to highlight the diagnostic and therapeutic challenges of LGACC, underscore the importance of resectioning the tumor as completely as possible for the first time, adhere to postoperative adjuvant therapy, and provide detailed insights into its surgical and diagnostic management that may not be extensively covered in large case series and meta-analyses. Case presentation: A 34-year-old man presented with progressive left eye proptosis for 4 months. Initial evaluation and imaging led to a high suspicion of LGACC, which was confirmed after an eye-sparing excision of the left orbital tumor. The patient declined to undergo postoperative radiotherapy, which was recommended after the surgery. Thus, despite surgical intervention, the patient experienced tumor recurrence 3 months post-surgery, leading to orbital exenteration. Pathological examination confirmed the presence of poorly differentiated LGACC.This time the patient underwent postoperative radiotherapy, as recommended. However, despite local control, the patient developed an intracranial metastasis within a year. Conclusion: LGACC presents significant diagnostic and therapeutic challenges owing to its insidious onset, lack of specific symptoms, and high potential for recurrence and metastasis. Thus, this case emphasizes the need for early diagnosis, aggressive treatment, and adherence to postoperative adjuvant therapy to improve patient outcomes. Future research should focus on understanding the pathogenesis of LGACC and on developing standardized diagnostic and treatment protocols to enhance patient prognosis and survival.

Ferroptosis is a form of regulated cell death triggered by iron-dependent lipid peroxidation and has been associated with heart diseases. However, there are currently no approved drugs that specifically inhibit ferroptosis in clinical practice, which largely limits the translational potential of this novel target. Here, we demonstrated that ß-caryophyllene (BCP; 150 µM), a natural dietary cannabinoid, protects cardiomyocytes against ferroptotic cell death induced by cysteine deprivation or glutathione peroxidase 4 (GPX4) inactivation. Moreover, BCP preserved the mitochondrial morphology and function during ferroptosis induction. Unexpectedly, BCP supported ferroptosis resistance independent of canonical antiferroptotic pathways. Our results further suggested that BCP may terminate radical chain reactions through interactions with molecular oxygen, which also explains why its oxidation derivative failed to suppress ferroptosis. Finally, oral BCP administration (50 mg/kg, daily) significantly alleviated doxorubicin (15 mg/kg, single i.p. injection)-induced cardiac ferroptosis and cardiomyopathy in mice. In conclusion, our data revealed the role of BCP as a natural antiferroptotic compound and suggest pharmacological modification based on BCP as a promising therapeutic strategy for treating ferroptosis-associated heart disorders.

Ruddlesden-Popper (RP) perovskites promise next-generation gain media for laser devices. However, most RP perovskite lasers are still suffering from inferior performance characteristics, such as inadequate energy transfer, unstable emission, and short lifetime. To address the above problems, high crystalline quality, compact, and smooth PEA2FA2Pb3Br10 films with uniform phase distribution were successfully prepared by ionic liquid (IL) methylammonium acetate (MAAc) in an air environment. Compared with the PEA2FA2Pb3Br10 film prepared by the traditional solvent dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO), an enhanced amplified spontaneous emission (ASE) with a lower threshold of 58 µJ·cm-2 from the MAAc-treated film was obtained under nanosecond laser excitation. The transient absorption (TA) spectroscopy revealed that a uniform phase distribution and more efficient energy transfer processes were achieved in the PEA2FA2Pb3Br10-MAAc film, leading to an enhanced band-to-band spontaneous emission process. Furthermore, the films exhibited better stability, showing no signs of degradation under the 120 min pulsed laser pumping in air and stability of ASE spectra at even 95% humidity conditions. This study provides an important foundation for achieving high-performance optically pumped lasers based on the unique RP perovskites.

Background: Tele-assisted home-based palliative care (THPC) usually fulfills the desire of terminal patients to pass away at home. The overall costs of such a service deserve evaluation. Objectives: This study aims to determine health care utilization and costs for cancer patients at the end of life, stratified by THPC service. Design: Patients who received THPC were matched 1:1 based on age, gender, year of death, and propensity score with those who did not receive THPC. Setting/Subjects: A total of 773 cancer patients passed away in a regional hospital in Taiwan during the period of 2012-2020, of which 293 received THPC. Measurements: We measured the rates and costs of outpatient clinic visits, emergency department (ED) visits, hospitalizations, and intensive care unit (ICU) admissions during the last week, the last two weeks and the last month before death. In addition, we estimated the driving times and expenses required for transportation from each cancer patient's home to the hospital using Google Maps. National Health Insurance (NHI) reimbursements and out-of-pocket expenses were also calculated. Results: In comparison with patients without THPC, those who received THPC had a 50% lower likelihood of visiting the ED or being hospitalized, a more than 90% reduced chance of ICU admission, but were four times more likely to obtain their medicines from outpatient clinics. THPC patients had similar out-of-pocket expenditures, approximately half of the NHI costs, and lower rates and costs for ambulance transportation to the ED. Conclusions: THPC reduced health care costs for terminal cancer patients in the last week, the last two weeks, and the last month before death, while also increasing the likelihood of patients being able to rest and pass away at home.

BACKGROUND: Due to the essential role of calcium in vital biological functions, diet low in calcium (DLC) is associated with various diseases. However, there is a lack of study about the current prevalence and health burden due to DLC using reliable data sources. METHODS: We used data from the Global Burden of Disease study 2019 (GBD 2019) to estimate the prevalence and health burden of DLC in 204 countries from 1990 to 2019, by age, sex, and sociodemographic index (SDI). The estimates were produced in DisMod-MR 2.1, a Bayesian meta-regression tool. Summary exposure value (SEV) was used to show the prevalence of DLC, while diseases adjusted life year (DALY) was used to represent the disease burden. The disease burden was estimated for DLC-induced colorectal cancer. Spearman Rank Order correlation was used for correlation analysis, and estimated annual percentage (EAPC) was used to reflect the temporal trends. RESULTS: From 1990 to 2019, the global prevalence of DLC decreased (EAPC of SEV, -0.47; 95% CI, -0.5 to -0.43), but have increased in Oceania region and in many countries, such as United Arab Emirates, New Zealand, Japan, and France. The global DALYs associated with low in calcium were estimated to be 3.14 million (95% uncertainty interval (UI), 2.25-4.26 million) in 2019, with an age standardized rate of 38.2 (95% UI, 27.2-51.8) per 100,000. Unlike the prevalence, the global age standardized DALY rates has remained unchanged (EAPC, -0.03; 95% CI, -0.12 to 0.07), but has increased in over 80 of the 204 countries, located mainly in Asia, Africa, and South America. In all years and regions, the age standardized SEV and DALY rates were higher in male people than that in female people. The prevalence (rho = -0.823; P < 0.001) and disease burden (rho = -0.433; P < 0.001) associated with diet in low calcium were strongly correlated to SDI. The prevalence decreased with age, but the DALY rates increased with age and peaked at about 90 years. The prevalence of DLC has decreased worldwide and in most countries, but the disease burden of DLC induced colorectal cancer has increased in over 40% of countries worldwide. CONCLUSION: Countries with low sociodemographic level and male people are more likely to experience the risk of DLC and related disease burden. Related measures in improve dietary calcium intake are in need to address diet in low calcium related health problems.

Alzheimer's disease has escalated into a critical public health concern, marked by its neurodegenerative nature that progressively diminishes cognitive abilities. Recognized as a continuously advancing and presently incurable condition, AD underscores the necessity for early-stage diagnosis and interventions aimed at delaying the decline in mental function. Despite the proven efficacy of cerebrospinal fluid and positron emission tomography in diagnosing AD, their broader utility is constrained by significant costs and the invasive nature of these procedures. Consequently, the innovation of blood biomarkers such as Amyloid-beta, phosphorylated-tau, total-tau et al, distinguished by their high sensitivity, minimal invasiveness, accessibility, and cost-efficiency, emerges as a promising avenue for AD diagnosis. The advent of ultra-sensitive detection methodologies, including single-molecule enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay and immunoprecipitation-mass spectrometry, has revolutionized the detection of AD plasma biomarkers, supplanting previous low-sensitivity techniques. This rapid advancement in detection technology facilitates the more accurate quantification of pathological brain proteins and AD-associated biomarkers in the bloodstream. This manuscript meticulously reviews the landscape of current research on immunological markers for AD, anchored in the National Institute on Aging-Alzheimer's Association AT(N) research framework. It highlights a selection of forefront ultra-sensitive detection technologies now integral to assessing AD blood immunological markers. Additionally, this review examines the crucial pre-analytical processing steps for AD blood samples that significantly impact research outcomes and addresses the practical challenges faced during clinical testing. These discussions are crucial for enhancing our comprehension and refining the diagnostic precision of AD using blood-based biomarkers. The review aims to shed light on potential avenues for innovation and improvement in the techniques employed for detecting and investigating AD, thereby contributing to the broader field of neurodegenerative disease research.

Background: Occupational hearing loss of workers exposed to impulse noise and workers exposed to steady noise for a long time may have different clinical characteristics. Methods: As of May 2019, all 92 servicemen working in a weapon experimental field exposed to impulse noise for over 1 year were collected as the impulse noise group. As of Dec 2019, all 78 servicemen working in an engine working experimental field exposed to steady noise for over 1 year were collected as the steady noise group. The propensity score matching (PSM) model was used to eliminate the imbalance of age and working time between the two groups of subjects. After propensity score matching, 51 subjects in each group were finally included in the study. The machine learning model is constructed according to pure tone auditory threshold, and the performance of the machine learning model is evaluated by accuracy, sensitivity, specificity, and AUC. Results: Subjects in the impulse noise group and the steady noise group had significant hearing loss at high frequencies. The hearing of the steady noise group was worse than that of the impulse noise group at speech frequency especially at the frequency of 1 kHz. Among machine learning models, XGBoost has the best prediction and classification performance. Conclusion: The pure tone auditory threshold of subjects in both groups decreased and at high frequency. The hearing of the steady noise group at 1 kHz was significantly worse than that of the impulse noise group. XGBoost is the best model to predict the classification of our two groups. Our research can guide the prevention of damage caused by different types of noises.

In patients with severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (which causes coronavirus disease 2019 [COVID-19]), oxidative stress (OS) is associated with disease severity and death. OS is also involved in the pathogenesis of atherosclerosis (AS). Previous studies have shown that geniposide has anti-inflammatory and anti-viral properties, and can protect cells against OS. However, the potential target(s) of geniposide in patients with COVID-19 and AS, as well as the mechanism it uses, are unclear. We combined pharmacology and bioinformatics analysis to obtain geniposide against COVID-19/AS targets, and build protein-protein interaction network to filter hub genes. The hub genes were performed an enrichment analysis by ClueGO, including Gene Ontology and KEGG. The Enrichr database and the target microRNAs (miRNAs) of hub genes were predicted through the MiRTarBase via Enrichr. The common miRNAs were used to construct the miRNAs-mRNAs regulated network, and the miRNAs' function was evaluated by mirPath v3.0 software. Two hundred forty-seven targets of geniposide were identified in patients with COVID-19/AS comorbidity by observing the overlap between the genes modulated by geniposide, COVID-19, and AS. A protein-protein interaction network of geniposide in patients with COVID-19/AS was constructed, and 27 hub genes were identified. The results of enrichment analysis suggested that geniposide may be involved in regulating the OS via the FoxO signaling pathway. MiRNA-mRNA network revealed that hsa-miR-34a-5p may play an important role in the therapeutic mechanism of geniposide in COVID-19/AS patients. Our study found that geniposide represents a promising therapy for patients with COVID-19 and AS comorbidity. Furthermore, the target genes and miRNAs that we identified may aid the development of new treatment strategies against COVID-19/AS.

ABSTRACT

Three-dimensional (3D) imaging of individual atoms is a critical tool for discovering new physical phenomena and developing new technologies in microscopic systems. However, the current single-atom-resolved 3D imaging methods are limited to static circumstances or a shallow detection range. Here, we demonstrate a generic dynamic 3D imaging method to track the extensive motion of single ions by exploiting the engineered point-spread function (PSF). We show that the image of a single ion can be engineered into a helical PSF, thus enabling single-snapshot acquisition of the position information of the ion in the trap. A preliminary application of this technique is demonstrated by recording the 3D motion trajectory of a single trapped ion and reconstructing the 3D dynamical configuration transition between the zig and zag structures of a 5-ion crystal. This work opens the path for studies on single-atom-resolved dynamics in both trapped-ion and neutral-atom systems.

ABSTRACT

Background: Internet hospitals, online health communities, and other digital health APPs have brought many changes to people's lives. However, digital health resources are experiencing low continuance intention due to many factors, including information security, service quality, and personal characteristics of users. Methods: We used cross-sectional surveys and structural equation modeling analysis to explore factors influencing user willingness to continue using digital health resources. Results: Information quality (ß = 0.31, p < 0.05), service quality (ß = 0.19, p < 0.05), platform reputation (ß = 0.34, p < 0.05), and emotional support (ß = 0.23, p < 0.05) have significant positive effects on user value co-creation behavior. Additionally, user trust and perceived usefulness could mediate the association between user value co-creation behavior and continuance intention, with mediation effects of 0.143 and 0.125, respectively. User involvement can positively moderate the association between user value co-creation behavior and user trust (ß = 0.151, t = 2.480, p < 0.001). Also, user involvement can positively moderate the association between value co-creation behavior and perceived usefulness (ß = 0.103, t = 3.377, p < 0.001). Conclusion: The keys to solving the problem of low continuance intention are improving the quality and service level of digital health resources, and promoting users' value co-creation behavior. Meanwhile, enterprises should build a good reputation, create a positive communication atmosphere in the community, and enhance user participation and sense of belonging.

ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVES: To evaluate the predictive value of fasting plasma glucose (FPG) for in-hospital mortality in patients with acute myocardial infarction (AMI) with different glucose metabolism status. METHODS: We selected 5,308 participants with AMI from the prospective, nationwide, multicenter CAMI registry, of which 2,081 were diabetic and 3,227 were nondiabetic. Patients were divided into high FPG and low FPG groups according to the optimal cutoff values of FPG to predict in-hospital mortality for diabetic and nondiabetic cohorts, respectively. The primary endpoint was in-hospital mortality. RESULTS: Overall, 94 diabetic patients (4.5%) and 131 nondiabetic patients (4.1%) died during hospitalization, and the optimal FPG thresholds for predicting in-hospital death of the two cohorts were 13.2 mmol/L and 6.4 mmol/L, respectively. Compared with individuals who had low FPG, those with high FPG were significantly associated with higher in-hospital mortality in diabetic cohort (10.1% vs. 2.8%; odds ratio [OR] = 3.862, 95% confidence interval [CI]: 2.542-5.869) and nondiabetic cohort (7.4% vs. 1.7%; HR = 4.542, 95%CI: 3.041-6.782). After adjusting the potential confounders, this significant association was not changed. Furthermore, FPG as a continuous variable was positively associated with in-hospital mortality in single-variable and multivariable models regardless of diabetic status. Adding FPG to the original model showed a significant improvement in C-statistic and net reclassification in diabetic and nondiabetic cohorts. CONCLUSIONS: This large-scale registry indicated that there is a strong positive association between FPG and in-hospital mortality in AMI patients with and without diabetes. FPG might be useful to stratify patients with AMI.
