ABSTRACT

Purpose: Thoracolumbar fascia injury is often associated with poor early pain relief after percutaneous vertebroplasty (PVP). This study will evaluate the effects of thoracolumbar fascia injury on early pain relief and time to get out of bed after PVP. Methods: A total of 132 patients treated with PVP for osteoporotic vertebral compression fractures (OVCF) were included and divided into injured group (52 cases) and non-injured group (80 cases) according to the existence of thoracolumbar fascia injury. Before surgery, 1 day, 3 days, 1 week, 1 month, and 3 months after surgery, and at the last follow-up, the primary patient-reported outcome measures (PROMs) were the visual analogue scale (VAS) of pain while rolling over and standing, and the secondary PROMs was the Oswestry disability index (ODI). Meanwhile, the achieved rate of minimal clinically important differences (MCID) and patient acceptable symptom states (PASS) of the above measures in both groups was evaluated at the last follow-up. Results: Except for the postoperative 3 months and the last follow-up, there were statistically significant differences in VAS-standing and ODI between the two groups at other time points after surgery (P < 0.05), and the non-injured group was significantly better than the injured group. At the last follow-up, there was no statistically significant difference in the MCID and PASS achievement rates of the above measures between the two groups (P > 0.05). In addition, the proportion of patients who got out of bed 1 and 3 days after surgery in the non-injury group was significantly higher than that in the injury group (P = 0.000 for both). Conclusion: Thoracolumbar fascia injury significantly affected early pain relief and extended time of getting out of bed after PVP. Attention should be paid to preoperative evaluation of thoracolumbar fascial injury in order to better predict the postoperative efficacy of PVP.

ABSTRACT

BACKGROUND: Osteoporosis is a genetic disease caused by the imbalance between osteoblast-led bone formation and osteoclast-induced bone resorption. However, further gene-related pathogenesis remains to be elucidated. METHODS: The aberrant expressed genes in osteoporosis was identified by analyzing the microarray profile GSE100609. Serum samples of patients with osteoporosis and normal group were collected, and the mRNA expression of candidate genes was detected by quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction (qRT-PCR). The mouse cranial osteoblast MC3T3-E1 cells were treated with dexamethasone (DEX) to mimic osteoporosis in vitro. Alizarin Red staining and alkaline phosphatase (ALP) staining methods were combined to measure matrix mineralization deposition of MC3T3-E1 cells. Meanwhile, the expression of osteogenesis related genes including alkaline phosphatase (ALP), osteocalcin (OCN), osteopontin (OPN), Osterix, and bone morphogenetic protein 2 (BMP2) were evaluated by qRT-PCR and western blotting methods. Then the effects of candidate genes on regulating impede bone loss caused by ovariectomy (OVX) in mice were studied. RESULTS: Cyclin A1 (CCNA1) was found to be significantly upregulated in serum of osteoporosis patients and the osteoporosis model cells, which was in line with the bioinformatic analysis. The osteogenic differentiation ability of MC3T3-E1 cells was inhibited by DEX treatment, which was manifested by decreased Alizarin Red staining intensity, ALP staining intensity, and expression levels of ALP, OCN, OPN, Osterix, and BMP2. The effects of CCNA1 inhibition on regulating osteogenesis were opposite to that of DEX. Then, Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes (KEGG) analysis demonstrated that genes negatively associated with CCNA1 were enriched in the TGF-beta signaling pathway. Inhibitor of TGF-beta signaling pathway partly reversed osteogenesis induced by suppressed CCNA1. Furthermore, suppressed CCNA1 relieved bone mass of OVX mice in vivo. CONCLUSION: Downregulation of CCNA1 could activate TGF-beta signaling pathway and promote bone formation, thus playing a role in treatment of osteoporosis.

ABSTRACT

BACKGROUND: This research examines the nuanced challenges confronting Chinese university students within the dynamic milieu of Chinese education. The study comprehensively investigates factors encompassing educational progress, social development, cognitive focus, and Psychological Well-being (PWB), specifically emphasizing the role of sports participation. METHODS: To scrutinize the moderation-mediation nexus between cultural context and social development, a distribution of 500 questionnaires was administered to Chinese university students, yielding 413 responses, corresponding to an 82.6% response rate. Methodologically, this study employed moderation and mediation analyses, incorporating statistical techniques such as a principal component matrix, factor analysis, and hierarchical regression. FINDINGS: Prominent findings underscore the significant impact of age on educational progress, shaping the trajectory of academic advancement. Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) emerges as a promising metric, establishing a link between academic performance and educational progress. Active involvement in sports and physical activities (PSPA) positively affects academic performance and study habits. Participation in sports teams and clubs (ISTC) enriches social development by nurturing interpersonal relationships, teamwork, and leadership skills. Sports activities (ESA) correlate with enhanced cognitive focus and improved psychological well-being. Significantly, the findings unveil a nuanced association between Perceived Social Development Through Sports (PSDTS) and educational progress. CONCLUSIONS: Cultural Context (CC) moderates PSDTS, Sport-induced Cognitive Focus (SICF), and PWB, influencing educational progress. This study emphasizes the need for enhanced support systems-academic guidance, awareness, sports programs, and cultural competence training-to advance student well-being and academic achievement in China, fostering an empowering educational environment for societal progress.

ABSTRACT

Climate change and coastal ecosystems have become challenging subjects for world sustainability. Humans, animals, and other ocean habitats are primarily affected by the harmful changes in climate. Coastal ecosystems support biodiversity and a wide range of species that serve as habitats for many commercially important fish species and enhance human activities in coastal areas. By engaging in coastal outdoor activities, individuals can experience numerous physical and mental health benefits, foster environmental awareness. This study provided valuable insights into the importance of coastal outdoor activities and their potential to improve our quality of life. This study undertook a challenging subject where we graphically and econometrically analyze the relationship and linkages among coastal indicators with other climate-concerning factors. The study comprises the ordinary regression and comparative analysis among the four largest coastline countries in the world. The study took a sample from Canada, Indonesia, Norway, and the Russian Federation from 1990 to 2022. The data is selected on a convenient basis. Results declared that each country has its unique challenges and opportunities in mitigating adverse climate change and retaining a sustainable coastal ecosystem. The study surprisingly revealed that climate change insignificantly affects the coastal ecosystem in Indonesia and the Russian Federation while it inversely affects the coastal ecosystem in Canada and Norway, showed that climate change on average declines coastal production by 0.0041922 and 0.0261104 in Canada and Norway respectively. The detailed review is given in the results section; however, the pooling analysis proved that at the aggregate level, a one percent increase in climate change caused a 0.02266-tonne decline in coastal ecosystems in the four largest coastline nations. There is a need for policies tend to increase CAP activities by implementing practical marine protected areas. Furthermore, scientific research and monitoring will be beneficial in restoring coastal sustainability.

ABSTRACT

The proteins were mainly derived from Protaetia brevitarsis larval extracts obtained using two empty intestine methods (traditional static method: TSM or salt immersion stress method: SISM) and extraction solvents (water: W or 50 % water-ethanol: W:E), and the proteins were used as objects to investigate the effect of emptying intestine methods on hypolipidemic peptides. The results revealed that the F-2 fractions of protein hydrolysate had stronger in vitro hypolipidemic activity, with the peptides obtained by SISM possessing a stronger cholesterol micelle solubility inhibition rate, especially in SISM-W:E-P. Moreover, a total of 106 peptides were tentatively identified, among which SISM identified more peptides with an amino acid number < 8. Meanwhile, five novel peptides (YPPFH, YPGFGK, KYPF, SPLPGPR and VPPP) exhibited good hypolipidemic activity in vitro and in vivo, among which YPPFH, VPPP and KYPF had strong inhibitory activities on pancreatic lipase (PL) and cholesteryl esterase (CE), and KYPF, SPLPGPR and VPPP could significantly reduce the TG content in Caenorhabditis elegans. Thus, P. brevitarsis can be developed as a naturally derived hypolipidemic component for the development and application in functional foods.

ABSTRACT

Background: Dual-task walking is a good paradigm to measure the walking ability of stroke patients in daily life. It allows for a better observation of brain activation under dual-task walking to assess the impact of the different tasks on the patient when combining with functional near-infrared spectroscopy (fNIRS). This review aims to summarize the cortical change of the prefrontal cortex (PFC) detected in single-task and dual-task walking in stroke patients. Methods: Six databases (Medline, Embase, PubMed, Web of Science, CINAHL, and Cochrane Library) were systematically searched for relevant studies, from inception to August 2022. Studies that measured the brain activation of single-task and dual-task walking in stroke patients were included. The main outcome of the study was PFC activity measured using fNIRS. In addition, a subgroup analysis was also performed for study characteristics based on HbO to analyze the different effects of disease duration and the type of dual task. Results: Ten articles were included in the final review, and nine articles were included in the quantitative meta-analysis. The primary analysis showed more significant PFC activation in stroke patients performing dual-task walking than single-task walking (SMD = 0.340, P = 0.02, I 2 = 7.853%, 95% CI = 0.054-0.626). The secondary analysis showed a significant difference in PFC activation when performing dual-task walking and single-task walking in chronic patients (SMD = 0.369, P = 0.038, I 2 = 13.692%, 95% CI = 0.020-0.717), but not in subacute patients (SMD = 0.203, P = 0.419, I 2 = 0%, 95% CI = -0.289-0.696). In addition, performing walking combining serial subtraction (SMD = 0.516, P < 0.001, I 2 = 0%, 95% CI = 0.239-0.794), obstacle crossing (SMD = 0.564, P = 0.002, I 2 = 0%, 95% CI = 0.205-0.903), or a verbal task (SMD = 0.654, P = 0.009, I 2 = 0%, 95% CI = 0.164-1.137) had more PFC activation than single-task walking, while performing the n-back task did not show significant differentiation (SMD = 0.203, P = 0.419, I 2 = 0%, 95% CI = -0.289-0.696). Conclusions: Different dual-task paradigms produce different levels of dual-task interference in stroke patients with different disease durations, and it is important to choose the matching dual-task type in relation to the walking ability and cognitive ability of the patient, in order to better improve the assessment and training effects. ABSTRACT

Physical inactivity has increased globally, particularly in developed nations. A high proportion of the human population is unable to meet the physical activity recommendation of the World Health Organisation due to hypertension, metabolic syndrome, obesity, and other medical conditions. Non-communicable diseases and mental health problems are becoming more prevalent, particularly in low and middle-income nations. This study aimed to determine the effectivenessof a mentorship programmeon university students' mental health and physical fitness. The intervention comprised the effects of sports-based development and education on physical fitness and mental health. A total of 196 and 234 students from two universities were randomly assigned to the intervention and control groups, respectively. The primary outcomes were engagement in physical activities (number of push-ups for 1 min, the strength of hand grip (kg), and the Jump test while standing (cm)), body fat proportion and psychological resilience, self-efficacy, and relationship with family and schoolmates. Participants in the control group had access to a web-based health education game, whereas the intervention group wassubjected to intensive interventional activities for one month based on the eight principles of the National Research Council and Institute of Medicine. Data were analysed using Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) to compare the physical and mental components between the intervention and control groups. Relative to baseline, all the physical health components (push-ups, sit-ups, and jump tests), psychological resilience, relationship with family members, and self-efficacy increased significantly in the intervention compared to the control group. Body fat composition was significantly reduced in the intervention when compared tothe control group. In conclusion, the mentorship programme effectively improved the participants' physical and psychological health and could be developed further for application in a larger population.

ABSTRACT

BACKGROUND: To explore the extraperitoneal laparoscopic urachal mass excision technique and its safety and efficacy in treating urachal mass. METHODS: Baseline characteristics were collected from patients who underwent surgery to diagnose a urachal cyst or abscess in our hospital between January 2020 and August 2021. The full-length of the urachus and part of the top bladder wall were completely removed through the extraperitoneal approach. Patient outcomes were collected to evaluate surgical safety and efficacy, including operation time, intraoperative blood loss, drainage tube removal time, length of stay (LOS), and postoperative complications. RESULTS: All 20 surgeries were successfully performed laparoscopically, and no case was converted to open surgery. The mean body mass index of the patients was 24.6 ± 2.2. The mean patient age was 49.3 ± 8.7 years. The mean size of the cysts was 3.0 ± 0.4 cm. The mean operation time was 56.3 ± 12.0 min. The mean intraoperative blood loss was 28.0 ± 6.4 mL. The mean drainage tube removal time was 3.0 ± 0.5 days. The mean LOS was 5.2 ± 0.4 days. The mean follow-up was 13.4 ± 2.1 months. No postoperative complications were observed during the follow-up period. The short-term follow-up and small patient cohort limited our outcome evaluation. CONCLUSION: Our results indicated that the extraperitoneal laparoscopic approach was a safe and effective method to treat urachal mass. Given the limitations of the study, further multiple and larger sample-sized trials are required to confirm our findings.

ABSTRACT

Intestinal contents affect the characterization of edible insect bioactive compounds. Two empty intestine methods, namely, traditional static method (TSM) or salt immersion stress method (SISM), associated with extraction solvents water (W), 50 % water-ethanol (W:E) or 100 % ethanol (E), were used to obtain six Protaetia brevitarsis larval extracts. The total flavonoid content (TFC) in the W:E extracts was significantly higher than that in the W and E extracts, with TSM-W:E the highest (p < 0.05). The relative contents of 132 bioactive compounds, especially p-hydroxyphenylacetic acid, citric acid, and dehydroepiandrosterone, were different between TSM-W and SISM-W. TSM-W:E had significantly higher 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydroxy· (DPPH) scavenging and pancreatic lipase (PL) inhibitory activity than SISM-W:E (p < 0.05). DPPH scavenging and PL inhibitory activities were highly correlated with TFC and carbohydrates, respectively. Thus, bioactive compounds in P. brevitarsis extracts can be obtained selectively using pretreatment methods, which might be beneficial for high-value utilization of P. brevitarsis.

ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVES: There is substantial concern about traditional transperitoneal laparoscopic radical cystectomy (TLRC) due to multiple postoperative complications. In contrast, extraperitoneal laparoscopic radical cystectomy (ELRC) appears to cause a lower rate of morbidity. The present study aimed to compare the efficacy of ELRC and TLRC for bladder cancer (BCa). METHODS: The clinical data of patients undergoing laparoscopic radical cystectomy for BCa from April 2018 to October 2021 were retrospectively analyzed, as ELRC and TLRC groups. The postoperative follow-up data of 275 patients were collected and the incidence of postoperative complications and other perioperative outcomes were compared between the two groups. RESULTS: Surgery was successfully completed in all patients without conversion to open surgery. There was no significant difference in the duration of cystectomy surgery (67.32 ± 23.53 vs 72.17 ± 25.72 min, p = 0.106), intraoperative blood loss (178.06 ± 110.4 vs. 174.56 ± 127.40 ml, p = 0.413), or the number of lymph node dissection (15.1 ± 5.7 vs. 14.5 ± 5.1, p = 0.380) between the two groups. The length of stay (11.6 ± 3.8 vs 14.7 ± 5.6 d, p < 0.001), time to resume food intake after surgery (2.3 ± 0.9 vs 3.0 ± 1.3 d, p < 0.001), and the incidence of ileus (p < 0.001) in the ELRC group were significantly lower than in the TLRC group. CONCLUSIONS: ELRC is a safe procedure that can reduce the incidence of postoperative complications, shorten postoperative hospital stay, reduce the duration of recovery of patients, and, therefore, should be promoted.

ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVE: To present the extraperitoneal laparoscopic radical cystectomy (ELRC) technique, and initial outcomes of organ-preserving and orthotopic neobladder (ONB) techniques for bladder cancer in selected females. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Data including patient characteristics, operative time, blood loss, transfusion rate, length of hospital stay, and pathologic outcomes, as well as 30- and 90-day complications were collected between April 2018 and May 2021 from females who underwent ONB after ELRC. Regular follow-up focused on patients' oncological and functional outcomes, and postoperative sexual function status was assessed using the Female Sexual Function Index (FSFI). RESULTS: Eleven females with a mean age of 53 years who underwent ELRC with pelvic organ-preservation and ONB were analyzed retrospectively. All procedures were completed successfully. The mean operative time was 264.82 ± 33.81 min, and the average intraoperative blood loss was 128 ± 18.19 mL. All patients had negative pathological margins and no lymph node metastases. The average hospital stay was 10.72 days. The single J ureteral stent and catheter were usually removed 3-4 weeks after the procedure. The FIFS assessment of postoperative sexual function showed that the patients were relatively satisfied. CONCLUSION: ELRC with pelvic organ preservation and ONB technology was a safe and feasible surgical strategy for the selected female patients. Preserving organs and vascular nerve bundles seemed to be safe in oncological and produced encouraging functional results. Further rigorous prospective studies with more patients and long-term follow-up data are needed to assess the oncologic and functional results.

ABSTRACT

Bombyx batryticatus (BB) is an anticonvulsant animal medicine in traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) and acts on the central nervous system. This research aimed to study the anticonvulsant effects of different polarity fractions of extracts from BB and to explore the components conferring anticonvulsant activity. Materials and methods: Crude extracts of BB at 20 g/kg were divided into different polarity fractions (petroleum ether, chloroform, ethyl acetate, water) and were administered to groups of mice before injecting pentylenetetrazol (PTZ) to induce convulsions. The animals were placed in chambers, and their behaviors were recorded for 30 min following the injection. Latency time, percent of protection, convulsion, convulsion rate, and convulsion score were determined for these mice. The compounds present in the different fractions were analyzed, and those from the fraction that conferred anticonvulsant activity were identified by high-performance liquid chromatography-quadrupole-time-of-flight mass spectrometry (UHPLC-Q-TOF MS) and molecular networking (MN). The chloroform extract fractions (B-C) clearly increased the seizure latency time and protection percentage and decreased the convulsion percentage compared to the control group. The anticonvulsant effect of other extract fractions was not significant. Our study shows that the chloroform extract fractions (B-C) of BB have a significant anticonvulsant effect. We also identified 17 compounds including lumichrome, pheophorbide A, and episyringaresinol 4'-O-beta-d-glucopyranose that were found for the first time. The results of this study may lay the groundwork for studying compounds derived from Bombyx batryticatus and their anticonvulsant effect.

ABSTRACT

Background: Dog bite wounds usually have severe local soft tissue damage and the wounds are likely to be contaminated by a large number of bacteria or even a series of rare pathogenic bacteria, leading to repeated infection and delayed wound healing. Recombinant human basic fibroblast growth factor (rh-bFGF) has excellent ability to promote wound repair and widely used in various complicated wounds. Objective: Observe the clinical efficacy of Recombinant human basic Fibroblast growth factor (rh-bFGF) applicated in the treatment of dog bite wounds. Methods: A total of 31 patients (16 adult and 15 aged) with rabies exposure grade Ⅲ dog bite wounds treated in the department of emergency surgery in our hospital from February 2020 to February 2022 were reviewed. Rh-bFGF was applied in the wounds after debridement and the patients were treated with preventive anti-inflammatory therapy. Observe the wound healing rules, infection rate, related complications and application time of antibiotics. Results: Eventually, all the wound were well healed and the healing time needed for most patients were about 2-3 weeks. The wound infection rate of aged patients was much higher, therefore application time of intravenous antibiotics injection in the aged patients was significantly higher than it in the adults (P < 0.05), but the difference of the time reach the intermittent wound dressing change was not statistically significant (P > 0.05). Conclusion: Rh-bFGF is safe and reliable for severe dog bite wounds in both the elderly and adults, it may help improve the early stage healing speed of aged patients, but the specific treatment needs to be individualized and accurate depends on different personal physique and wound conditions.

ABSTRACT

Objective: To investigate the expression levels of Ten-Eleven Translocation-2 (TET-2) in patients with acute myocardial infarction (AMI) and correlations of TET-2 levels with disease severity. Methods: A total of 150 patients with confirmed AMI were included in this study. According to the number of coronary artery lesions, the patients were divided into a single lesion group, two lesion group, and three lesion group. According to the Gensini scores, these patients were also assigned into three groups: the low-risk group, middle-risk group, and high-risk group. 150 patients without AMI confirmed by coronary angiography were included in the control group in the same period. TET-2 and cardiac troponin T (cTNT) levels were detected by ELISA analysis and compared among different groups. Pearson's correlation analysis was used to evaluate the correlations of TET-2 levels and cTNT levels/Gensini scores. The levels of TET-2 in AMI patients increased remarkably with the increase of disease severity. Patients in the single lesion group or low-risk group had the lowest levels of TET-2. Pearson correlation analysis indicated that TET-2 levels were positively associated with cTNT levels and Gensini scores, respectively (all P < 0.001). Conclusion: The levels of TET-2 were upregulated in AMI patients and positively correlated with cTNT levels or Gensini scores, suggesting that the examination of TET-2 expression levels could be exploited for predicting the disease severity.

ABSTRACT

The phytohormones jasmonates (JAs) regulate diverse aspects of plant growth and defense responses. The JA-ZIM domain (JAZ) family of repressors are targeted by the JA receptor Coronatine Insensitive 1 for ubiquitination and subsequent degradation via the 26S proteasome. We previously investigated the functions of JAZs in JA responses by analyzing jaz mutants of the phylogenetic group I (jaz1/2/5/6), group II/III (jaz10/11/12), group IV/V (jaz3/4/7/9 and jaz3/4/7/8/9), and their high-order mutant jaz1/2/3/4/5/6/7/9/10/11/12. Here, we examined JA-regulated root growth, apical hook curvature, flowering time, and defense against the insect Spodoptera exigua in the intermediate jaz mutants jaz1/2/5/6/10/11/12, jaz1/2/3/4/5/6/7/9, and jaz3/4/7/8/9/10/11/12. This study shows that these jaz mutants differentially affect JA responses, suggesting the complexity of JA pathway in these multiple jaz mutants.

ABSTRACT

Serotonin (5-hydroxytraptamine, 5-HT) is a neurotransmitter plays important roles in emotion and motivation. The action of 5-HT varies across nucleus and the receptor sub-types. Lateral habenula (LHb) in a brain area reciprocally connects with raphe nucleus and plays important roles in emotion and depression. In this study, we aimed to study the role of 5-HT1 receptor in LHb on fear learning. 15 min before or immediate after the fear conditioning, 5-Carboxyamidotrypamine maleate salt (5-CT), an agonist of 5-HT1 receptor, was bilaterally delivered into LHb (1 µg/µl, 1 µl/side) in rats. We found that activation of 5-HT1 receptor in LHb impaired the acquisition but not consolidation of fear memory in rats, which was accompanied by impaired long-term potentiation (LTP) and decreased phosphorylation of α-amino-3-hydroxy-5-methyl-4-isoxazole-propionic acid receptor (AMPAR) subunit 1 (GluA1) at the Ser845 site in hippocampus. In addition, 5-CT decreased the time spent in center area of the open field and time spent in open arm in elevated plus maze. These results suggest that activation of 5-HT1 receptor in LHb impaired acquisition of hippocampal dependent fear memory and increased anxiety- like behavior in rats.

ABSTRACT

With greater socio-economic development and the popularization of scientific child-rearing methods, education has become of primary importance in contemporary society. This study attempts to promote the physical and mental health of preschoolers and improve their comprehensive learning ability. To understand the impact of sports skills and Physical Education (PE) on preschoolers' physical and mental health, we utilized the Questionnaire Survey (QS) and expert evaluation. First, the development of sports skills and the basic connotation of sports were expounded. Second, the characteristics of preschoolers and the importance of preschool education were discussed. Finally, the physical and mental health of 60 preschoolers was evaluated based on physical skill development and sports. The results revealed that the respondent preschoolers were grouped reasonably, and the research results had high reference values. In the control group, the physical conditions of four preschoolers changed significantly in the best case. By comparison, in the experimental group, preschoolers with significant physical changes had reached nine at best. In addition, as high as nine respondents showed obvious improvement in their mental state in the best case. Therefore, this study demonstrates that physical skill development and PE significantly impact preschoolers' physical and mental health, which has an important impact on preschoolers' learning. This finding provides a reference for preschoolers' sports skills development and contributes to their comprehensive PE teaching.

ABSTRACT

Background: The COVID-19 pandemic and the multifaceted response strategies to curb its spread both have devastating effects on mental and emotional health. Social distancing, and self-isolation have impacted the lives of students. These impacts need to be identified, studied, and handled to ensure the well-being of the individuals, particularly the students. Aim: This study aims to analyze the role of coping strategies, family support, and social support in improving the mental health of the students by collecting evidence from post COVID-19. Methods: Data was collected from deaf students studying in Chinese universities of Henan Province, China. A survey questionnaire was designed to collect data from 210 students. Descriptive statistics were calculated using SPSS 21 while hypothesis testing was carried out using Mplus 7. Results: The results demonstrated that family support was strongly positively linked to mental health and predicted coping strategies. The direct relationship analysis showed that coping strategy strongly predicted mental health. Furthermore, coping strategies significantly mediated the relationship between family support and mental health. Additionally, the results highlighted that PSS significantly moderated the path of family support and coping strategies only. Conclusion: Family support and coping strategies positively predicted mental health, whereas, family support was also found to be positively associated with coping strategies. Coping strategies mediated the positive association between family support and mental health. However, perceived family and other support only moderated the relationship between family support and coping strategies.

ABSTRACT

To further promote the development of new ventures, sufficient research and analysis have been conducted on the managers (especially, new venture entrepreneurs) and employees of new ventures. In this study, the case investigation is adopted to study the psychological stress of new venture entrepreneurs, the psychological capital of college athletes and the cultivation of employability. The research results show that there is no significant difference in career guidance curriculum and employability among students with different academic performances (p > 0.05), but there is a significant difference in psychological capital among students with different academic performances (p < 0.05). The career guidance curriculum, employability, and psychological capital have different correlation degrees. The career guidance curriculum has a significantly positive impact on the employability of students, and psychological capital plays a mediating role in the impact of the career guidance curriculum on employability. The analysis of the psychological stress of new venture entrepreneurs indicates that the stress of the dimension of resource requirements is the least. Meanwhile, the psychological stress of new entrepreneurs has a positive impact on new venture performance. The research content is fully considered, which can provide a scientific and effective reference for the follow-up research.

ABSTRACT

INTRODUCTION: A trade-off between successful surgery and minimizing the operation delay for patients with spinal tuberculosis (TB) is a major consideration to determine the duration of preoperational anti-TB treatment (AAT). In this study, 2 and 4 weeks preoperative AAT durations were compared for their influence on the operation outcomes. METHOD: A multicenter, prospective, randomized trial was conducted in four hospitals in China. New patients with spinal TB were recruited and randomly allocated to two groups (2 or 4 weeks' preoperative treatment) and administered the standardized first-line anti-TB drugs. The symptom changing and indicators reflecting recovery and side effects of the treatment were monitored. Patient was followed up for another 18 months after completion of treatment. RESULTS: In total, 150 eligible patients were enrolled between June 2014 and December 2016, and 13 patients were excluded after the enrollment. The remaining 137 participants were randomly allocated to the 2-week group (n = 68) or the 4-week group (n = 69). These two groups acquired similar surgical outcomes, considering wound healing rate within 3 months after the operation (94.20%, 65/69 vs 89.71%, 61/68; P = 0.333) and bony fusion rate within 6 months (98.46%, 64/65 vs 95.45%, 63/66; P = 0.317). However, the culture positive rate of pus collected during operation in the 4-week group (41.94%) was significantly lower than that of the 2-week group (60.94%, P = 0.033). No reoccurrence of disease was observed in either group during the 18-month follow-up period. CONCLUSION: Patients with spinal TB administered 2 or 4 weeks of preoperative anti-TB treatment acquired similar surgical outcomes. However, patients who underwent the operation sooner suffered 2 weeks less agony from the disease.
