ABSTRACT

Accurate and sensitive monitoring of the concentration change of anti-digoxigenin (Anti-Dig) antibody is of great importance for diagnosing infectious and immunological diseases. Combining a novel triplex aptamer nanoswitch and the high signal-to-noise ratio of lighting-up RNA aptamer signal amplification, a label-free and ultrasensitive fluorescent sensing approach for detecting Anti-Dig antibodies is described. The target Anti-Dig antibodies recognize and bind with the nanoswitch to open its triplex helix stem structure to release Taq DNA polymerase and short ssDNA primer simultaneously, which activates the Taq DNA polymerase to initiate downstream strand extension of ssDNA primer to yield specific dsDNA containing RNA promoter sequence. T7 RNA polymerase recognizes and binds to these promoter sequences to initiate RNA transcription reaction to produce many RNA aptamer sequences. These aptamers can recognize and bind with Malachite Green (MG) dye specifically and produce highly amplified fluorescent signal for monitoring Anti-Dig antibodies from 50 pM to 50 nM with a detection limit down to 33 pM. The method also exhibits high selectivity for Anti-Dig antibodies and can be used to discriminate trace Anti-Dig antibodies in diluted serum samples. Our method is superior to many immunization-based Anti-Dig antibody detection methods and thus holds great potential for monitoring disease progression and efficacy.

ABSTRACT

Nine varieties of purple sweet potato were steamed and used for the production of shrimp freshness indicators. The impact of purple sweet potato's variety on the structure, physical property and halochromic ability of indicators was determined. Results showed different varieties of purple sweet potato had different starch, crude fiber, pectin, protein, fat and total anthocyanin contents. The microstructure, crystallinity, moisture content, water vapor permeability, tensile strength and elongation at break of indicators were affected by crude fiber content in purple sweet potato. The color, transmission and halochromic ability of indicators was associated with the total anthocyanin content in purple sweet potato. Freshness indicators produced from Fuzi No. 1, Ganzi No. 6, Ningzi No. 2, Ningzi No. 4, Qining No. 2 and Qining No. 18 of purple sweet potato were suitable to indicate shrimp freshness. This study provides useful information on screening suitable varieties of purple sweet potato for intelligent packaging.

ABSTRACT

Natural products have been utilized for medicinal purposes for millennia, endowing them with a rich source of chemical scaffolds and pharmacological leads for drug discovery. Among the vast array of natural products, flavonoids represent a prominent class, renowned for their diverse biological activities and promising therapeutic advantages. Notably, their anti-inflammatory properties have positioned them as promising lead compounds for developing novel drugs combating various inflammatory diseases. This review presents a comprehensive overview of flavonoids, highlighting their manifold anti-inflammatory activities and elucidating the underlying pathways in mediating inflammation. Furthermore, this review encompasses systematical classification of flavonoids, related anti-inflammatory targets, involved in vitro and in vivo test models, and detailed statistical analysis. We hope this review will provide researchers engaged in active natural products and anti-inflammatory drug discovery with practical information and potential leads.

ABSTRACT

Food packaging films were prepared by using guar gum/polyvinyl alcohol (GP) as the film matrix, 2% Ag nanoparticles (AgNPs) as reinforcing filler and antimicrobial agent, and 1%, 2% and 3% pokeweed betacyanins (PB) as the colorant and antioxidant agent. The structures and color-changing, barrier, mechanical, thermal and antioxidant/antibacterial properties of different films were measured. The results show that the PB were pH-sensitive pigments with pink, purple and yellow colors at pH 3-8, pH 9-11 and pH 12, respectively. PB improved the compatibility of guar gum and polyvinyl alcohol through hydrogen bonds. The films with PB showed a color-changing capacity under ammonia vapor and good color stability in chilled storage. AgNPs and PB elevated the barrier capacity of GP film to light, water vapor and oxygen gas. Meanwhile, AgNPs and PB improved the stiffness, thermal stability and antioxidant/antibacterial activity of GP film. The film with AgNPs and 3% PB showed the highest barrier capacity, stiffness, thermal stability and antioxidant/antimicrobial activity. In shrimp spoilage test, the films with AgNPs and 2% and 3% PB indicated shrimp freshness through film color changes. The results reveal the potential use of the prepared films in active and smart packaging.

ABSTRACT

The pH-response color-changeable films were prepared by adding different contents (1 %, 2 % and 3 %) of hyacinth bean anthocyanins (HBA) into guar gum/polyvinyl alcohol blend matrix. The structural characterization and optical, barrier, mechanical, thermal, antioxidant and color-changeable properties of the films were determined. The films were applied to monitor the freshness of chilled shrimp and pork. Results showed that HBA were pH-dependent color-changeable pigments that endowed the films with purple color. 2 % and 3 % of HBA improved the uniformity and compactness of the films by forming hydrogen bonds with film matrix. The barrier ability of the films against UV-vis light, water vapor and oxygen was significantly elevated by 2 % and 3 % of HBA. The mechanical, thermal and antioxidant properties of the films were improved by HBA. The films containing HBA were much sensitive to pH variation and ammonia vapor, presenting obvious color changes (purple→green→yellow-green). The films containing HBA showed good color stability when stored at 4 °C for 30 days. Moreover, the film containing 2 % HBA showed color changes (purple→green) when the chilled shrimp and pork decayed. The results suggested that the film containing 2 % HBA was suitable to monitor the freshness of meat products in intelligent packaging field.

Pullulan-based smart packaging films were prepared by mixing cooked amaranth juice and bergamot essential oil. The impact of cooked amaranth juice and bergamot essential oil on the color-changeability, structural characterization, and barrier, antioxidant, mechanical and thermal properties of pullulan-based films was determined. Results showed the cooked amaranth juice contained pH-response color-changing betacyanins. The pullulan films containing cooked amaranth juice were color-changeable in pH 9-12 buffers and in ammonia vapor. The color-changeable property of betacyanins in cooked amaranth juice was unaffected by bergamot essential oils. The inner structure of pullulan films was greatly affected by cooked amaranth juice, forming big and ordered humps in film cross-sections. The crystallinity of pullulan films was improved by the combined addition of cooked amaranth juice and bergamot essential oil. Among the films, the pullulan film containing cooked amaranth juice and 6% bergamot essential oil showed the highest UV-vis light barrier property, antioxidant activity, and tensile strength; while the pullulan film containing cooked amaranth juice and 4% bergamot essential oil showed the highest oxygen barrier property and thermal stability. Moreover, the pullulan films containing cooked amaranth juice were able to monitor the freshness of shrimp by presenting color changes from reddish purple to dark red.

BACKGROUND AND AIMS: Liver diseases present a wide range of fibrosis, from fatty liver with no inflammation to steatohepatitis with varying degrees of fibrosis, to established cirrhosis leading to HCC. In a multivariate analysis, serum levels of spermidine were chosen as the top metabolite from 237 metabolites and its levels were drastically reduced along with progression to advanced steatohepatitis. Our previous studies that showed spermidine supplementation helps mice prevent liver fibrosis through MAP1S have prompted us to explore the possibility that spermidine can alleviate or cure already developed liver fibrosis. METHODS: We collected tissue samples from patients with liver fibrosis to measure the levels of MAP1S. We treated wild-type and MAP1S knockout mice with CCl4 -induced liver fibrosis with spermidine and isolated HSCs in culture to test the effects of spermidine on HSC activation and liver fibrosis. RESULTS: Patients with increasing degrees of liver fibrosis had reduced levels of MAP1S. Supplementing spermidine in mice that had already developed liver fibrosis after 1 month of CCl4 induction for an additional 3 months resulted in significant reductions in levels of ECM proteins and a remarkable improvement in liver fibrosis through MAP1S. Spermidine also suppressed HSC activation by reducing ECM proteins at both the mRNA and protein levels, and increasing the number of lipid droplets in stellate cells. CONCLUSIONS: Spermidine supplementation is a potentially clinically meaningful approach to treating and curing liver fibrosis, preventing cirrhosis and HCC in patients.

ABSTRACT

Clonal bacterial cells can give rise to functionally heterogeneous subpopulations. This diversification is considered an adaptation strategy that has been demonstrated for several bacterial species, including Salmonella enterica serovar Typhimurium. In previous studies on mouse models infected orally with pure Salmonella cultures, derived bacterial cells collected from animal tissues were found to express heterogenous phenotypes. Here, we show mixed Salmonella populations, apparently derived from the same progenitor, present in human specimens collected at a single disease time point, and in a long-term-infected patient, these Salmonella were no longer expressing surface-exposed antigen epitopes by isolates collected at earlier days of the disease. The subpopulations express different phenotypes related to cell surface antigen expression, motility, biofilm formation, biochemical metabolism, and antibiotic resistance, which can all contribute to pathogenicity. Some of the phenotypes correlate with single nucleotide polymorphisms or other sequence changes in bacterial genomes. These genetic variations can alter synthesis of cell membrane-associated molecules such as lipopolysaccharides and lipoproteins, leading to changes in bacterial surface structure and function. This study demonstrates the limitation of Salmonella diagnostic methods that are based on a single-cell population which may not represent the heterogenous bacterial community in infected humans. IMPORTANCE In animal model systems, heterogenous Salmonella phenotypes were found previously to regulate bacterial infections. We describe in this communication that different Salmonella phenotypes also exist in infected humans at a single disease time point and that their phenotypic and molecular traits are associated with different aspects of pathogenicity. Notably, variation in genes encoding antibiotic resistance and two-component systems were observed from the subpopulations of a patient suffering from persistent salmonellosis. Therefore, clinical and public health interventions of the disease that are based on diagnosis of a single-cell population may miss other subpopulations that can cause residual human infections.

ABSTRACT

Freshness indicating films containing anthocyanins are one type of smart packaging technology. Anthocyanins in the films can show visual color changes when food spoilage occurs, thereby indicating the freshness degree of food in real-time. Rhododendron simsii is a landscape plant with attractive flowers that are abundant in anthocyanins. In this study, smart packaging films were prepared by embedding 2% and 4% R. simsii flower anthocyanins (RA) in locust bean gum- (LBG) and polyvinyl alcohol- (PVA) based matrices. The micro-structure, barrier, mechanical, thermal, antioxidant, and color-changeable properties of the films were determined. The potential application of the films in indicating the freshness of shrimp at 4 °C was also investigated. Results showed that the RA interacted with the LBG/PVA matrices through hydrogen bonds, which significantly improved the barrier, mechanical, thermal, antioxidant, pH-sensitive, and ammonia-sensitive properties of the films. Meanwhile, the performance of the films was remarkably influenced by the content of the RA. The film containing 4% RA had the highest light blocking ability, tensile strength (38.32 MPa), elongation at break (58.18%), and antioxidant activity, and also showed the lowest water vapor permeability (22.10 × 10-11 g m-1 s-1 Pa-1) and oxygen permeability (0.36 cm3 mm m-2 day-1 atm-1). The films containing 2% and 4% RA could effectively change their colors when the level of total volatile basic nitrogen in the shrimp exceeded the safe value, which demonstrated the suitability of the films for indicating the freshness degree of shrimp.

In this study, four dialdehyde starch-catechin (DAS-catechin) conjugates were prepared by conjugating (-)-epicatechin (EC), (-)-epigallocatechin (EGC), (-)-epicatechin gallate (ECG) and (-)-epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG) with dialdehyde starch. Then, DAS-catechin conjugates were used as antioxidant and cross-linking agents to produce chitosan (CS) based antioxidant packaging films. The functionality of CS/DAS-catechin conjugate films was determined. Results showed four DAS-catechin conjugates formed Schiff-base linkages and hydrogen bond interactions with CS, resulting in improved film uniformity. Compared with plain CS film, CS/DAS-catechin conjugate films owned higher UV-vis light, water vapor and oxygen barrier ability, lower swelling degree, and stronger tensile strength, thermal stability and antioxidant activity. The cross-linking between CS and DAS-catechin conjugates delayed the biodegradable process of CS film. CS/DAS-catechin conjugate films showed good performance on inhibiting sunflower seed oil oxidation. Notably, CS/DAS-ECG conjugate film had the highest oxygen barrier, mechanical and antioxidant performances among four CS/DAS-catechin conjugate films. Therefore, CS/DAS-ECG conjugate film is an antioxidant packaging candidate for edible oil.

ABSTRACT

Phosphoserine aminotransferase 1 (PSAT1) may be an oncogene that plays an important role in various cancer types. However, there are still many gaps in the expression of PSAT1 gene and its biological impact in different types of tumors. Here, we performed an integrated pan-cancer analysis to explore the potential molecular mechanisms of PSAT1 in cancers. We found that most human tumors express higher levels of PSAT1 than normal tissues, and that higher PSAT1 expression is associated with worse prognosis in Lung adenocarcinoma (LUAD), Pan-kidney cohort (KIPAN) and breast invasive carcinoma (BRCA), etc. In BRCA cases, the prognosis of patients with altered PSAT1 was worse than that of patients without alteration. In addition, PSAT1 hypermethylation is associated with T cell dysfunction and shortened survival time in BRCA. The Gene Set Enrichment Analysis (GSEA) analysis showed that PSAT1 can be enriched into the classic signaling pathways of cancer such as mTORC1 signaling, MYC targets and JAK STAT3. Further analysis demonstrated that PSAT1 was enriched in immune related signaling pathways in LUAD and BRCA. The results of immunoassay showed that PSAT1 was associated with immune cell infiltration in multiple cancer species. Furthermore, expression of PSAT1 was correlated with both tumor mutational burden (TMB) and microsatellite instability (MSI) in BRCA. Additionally, a remarkable correlation was found between PSAT1 expression and TMB in LUAD, and the expression of PSAT1 was negatively correlated with the Tumor Immune Dysfunction and Exclusion (TIDE) value, suggesting a good effect of immunotherapy. Together, these data suggest that PSAT1 expression is associated with the clinical prognosis, DNA methylation, gene mutations, and immune cell infiltration, contributing to clarify the role of PSAT1 in tumorigenesis from a variety of perspectives. What's more, PSAT1 may be a new biomarker for survival and predicting the efficacy of immunotherapy for LUAD and BRCA.

PURPOSE: Posterior cerebral artery (PCA) aneurysms are rare. This study is to evaluate the preliminary experience of braided stents applied in PCA aneurysms treatment. METHODS: Angiographic and clinical data of 28 PCA patients treated with braided stents from July 2016 and September 2020 were retrospectively analyzed. RESULTS: A total of 28 PCA aneurysms were enrolled. 22 (78.6%) aneurysms were dissecting aneurysms, while 6 (21.4%) aneurysms were saccular aneurysms. Thirty-five braided stents were implanted with dual stents implanted in 7 cases. Immediate angiographic results show that Raymond class I was obtained in 13 patients (46.4%), Raymond class II was obtained in 4 patients (14.3%), and Raymond class III was obtained in 11 patients (39.3%). Perioperative hemorrhagic events occurred in 1 patient (3.6%). Twenty-four patients (85.7%) received angiographic follow-up, and the mean follow-up time was 11.2 ± 4.9 months. Two patients (8.3%) were confirmed with IA neck recurrence, and 3 patients (12.5%) were confirmed asymptomatic parent artery occlusion (PAO). The other 19 patients were confirmed promoted occlusion with 18 Raymond class I (75%) and 1 Raymond class II (4.2%). Twenty-seven patients (96.4%) received clinical follow-up, and the mean follow-up time was 32.2 ± 13.5 months. One patient (3.7%) confirmed the death event 2 weeks after discharge. The other 27 patients (96.3%) got favorable clinical outcomes with an mRS score of 0-2. CONCLUSIONS: Braided stent-assisted coiling with a high occlusion rate and relatively low complication rate provides an alternative strategy in treating PCA aneurysms. Long-term outcomes need further randomized study with larger case numbers.

BACKGROUND: Endovascular treatment of complex intracranial aneurysms (IAs) was challenging. Our retrospective study aimed to assess the efficacy and safety of LEO Baby stents using the dual stenting technique for complex IAs. METHODS: Clinical and angiographic data of 15 IAs located in small arteries treated by LEO Baby stents in our neurosurgical center were retrospectively collected and analyzed between April 2019 to January 2021. RESULTS: 15 patients received dual stent-assisted coiling procedures and the stent configurations include 7 cases of T- configuration, 5 cases of parallel- configuration, 2 cases of Y- configuration, and 1case of X- configuration. 11 patients received dual stents deployment with only LEO Baby stents and 4 patients received LEO Baby stent combined with LVIS stent. Immediate postprocedural results showed Raymond I in 4 patients (26.7%), Raymond II in 5 patients (33.3%), and Raymond III in 6 patients (40.0%). One patient (6.7%) was confirmed with an ischemic complication during the procedure. All 15 patients (100%) received clinical follow-up ranging between 6 and 28 months. An mRS score of 0-2 was reached in all patients. 13 patients (86.7%) received angiographic clinical follow-up ranging between 6 and 20 months. The results revealed that Raymond I was achieved in 10 patients (76.9%) and Raymond II was achieved in 3 patients (23.1%). One patient (7.7%) in 6 months after the procedure was confirmed with asymptomatic in-stent stenosis. CONCLUSION: This preliminary study suggests that dual stents deployment of LEO Baby stents was a feasible strategy for the treatment of complex IAs located in the small arteries.

Small nuclear ribonucleoprotein Sm D1 (SNRPD1), one of the crucial genes encoding core spliceosome components, was abnormally highly expressed in multiple types of tumors. In this study, we investigated the diagnostic and prognostic significance of SNRPD1 in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). The investigation of datasets from GEO and TCGA databases revealed that SNRPD1 expression in HCC was significantly higher than adjacent normal liver tissues, which was validated by immunohistochemistry (IHC). Both GO, KEGG analysis showed that the SNRPD1 co-expressed genes mainly enriched in Cell division, Nuclear import, mRNA splicing via spliceosome, Ribosome, Cell cycle, etc. Survival analysis from the GSE14520 dataset and 154 HCC cohorts exhibited a significant association of high SNRPD1 expression with poor overall survival and recurrence-free survival. ROC analysis showed that the abnormally high SNRPD1 mRNA expression has diagnostic significance in distinguishing between HCC and normal liver tissue (AUC = 0.819). Gene set enrichment analysis (GSEA) demonstrated that the high expression of SNRPD1 might regulate HCC tumorigenesis and progression by affecting the cell cycle, mismatch repair, DNA replication, and RNA degradation, etc. The luciferase report assay revealed that SNRPD1 was the direct target gene of miR-100 manifested by decreased SNRPD1 expression and luciferase activity in the HCC cells upon miR-100 overexpression. Finally, SNRPD1 may as an oncogene affecting the progression of HCC through regulates the mTOR pathway and autophagy.

ABSTRACT

Chaperonin containing TCP1 subunit 7 (CCT7) regulates the expression of many tumor-related proteins. We investigated the diagnostic and prognostic value of CCT7 expression for hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). In datasets from The Cancer Genome Atlas and the Gene Expression Omnibus, CCT7 mRNA levels were greater in HCC tissues than adjacent normal tissues, and these results were validated using immunohistochemistry. In patients with early-stage disease and low alpha-fetoprotein expression, CCT7 expression was still higher in HCC tissues than normal tissues. Receiver operating characteristic curve analyses indicated that CCT7 expression had better diagnostic value than alpha-fetoprotein for HCC patients with early-stage disease and low alpha-fetoprotein expression. The positive predictive value of CCT7 expression was higher than that of alpha-fetoprotein expression. Higher CCT7 mRNA and protein levels were independent risk factors for poorer overall and recurrence-free survival in HCC patients. Greater methylation of the CpG site cg19515186 was associated with better overall survival in HCC patients. Genes co-expressed with CCT7 were upregulated in HCC and associated with poorer overall survival. Gene Ontology, Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes and Gene Set Enrichment Analyses demonstrated that CCT7 expression correlated with spliceosome signaling. These findings demonstrate that CCT7 has diagnostic and prognostic value for HCC.

ABSTRACT

The objective of this study is to explore the role of the SDF-1α/CXCR4 pathway in the development of intracranial aneurysm (IA) induced by hemodynamic forces. We collected 12 IA and six superficial temporal artery samples for high-throughput sequencing, hematoxylin and eosin staining, and immunohistochemistry to examine vascular remodeling and determine the expression of the components of the SDF-1α/CXCR4 pathway, structural proteins (α-SMA and calponin) of vascular smooth muscle cells (VSMCs), and inflammatory factors (MMP-2 and TNF-α). Computational fluid dynamics (CFD) was used for hemodynamic analysis. Mouse IA model and dynamic co-culture model were established to explore the mechanism through which the SDF-1α/CXCR4 pathway regulates the phenotypic transformation of VSMCs in vivo and in vitro. We detected a significant elevation of SDF-1α and CXCR4 in IA, which was accompanied by vascular remodeling in the aneurysm wall (i.e., the upregulation of inflammatory factors, MMP-2 and TNF-α, and the downregulation of contractile markers, α-SMA and calponin). In addition, hemodynamic analysis revealed that compared with unruptured aneurysms, ruptured aneurysms were associated with lower wall shear stress and higher MMP-2 expression. In vivo and in vitro experiments showed that abnormal hemodynamics could activate the SDF-1α/CXCR4, P38, and JNK signaling pathways to induce the phenotypic transformation of VSMCs, leading to IA formation. Hemodynamics can induce the phenotypic transformation of VSMCs and cause IA by activating the SDF-1α/CXCR4 signaling pathway.

ABSTRACT

In modern society, subarachnoid hemorrhage, mostly caused by intracranial aneurysm rupture, is accompanied by high disability and mortality rate, which has become a major threat to human health. Till now, the etiology of intracranial aneurysm has not been entirely clarified. In recent years, more and more studies focus on the relationship between hemodynamics and intracranial aneurysm. Under the physiological condition, the mechanical force produced by the stable blood flow in the blood vessels keeps balance with the structure of the blood vessels. When the blood vessels are stimulated by the continuous abnormal blood flow, the functional structure of the blood vessels changes, which becomes the pathophysiological basis of the inflammation and atherosclerosis of the blood vessels and further promotes the occurrence and development of the intracranial aneurysm. This review will focus on the relationship between hemodynamics and intracranial aneurysms, will discuss the mechanism of occurrence and development of intracranial aneurysms, and will provide a new perspective for the research and treatment of intracranial aneurysms.

ABSTRACT

Throughout the world, esophageal cancer patients had a greater suicidal risk compared with ordinary people. Thus, we aimed to affirm suicide rates, standardized mortality rates, and underlying suicide-related risk factors of esophageal cancer patients. Patients suffering esophageal cancer were chosen from the Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results repository in 1975-2016. Suicide rates as well as standardized mortality rates in the patients were measured. Univariable and multivariable Cox regression had been adopted for establishing the latent suicide risk factors among patients suffering esophageal cancer. On multivariable Cox regression, gender (male vs. female, HR: 6.37), age of diagnosis (70-105 vs. 0-55, HR: 2.69), marital status, race (white race vs. black race, HR: 6.64; American Indian/Alaska Native, Asian/Pacific Islander vs. black race, HR: 8.60), histologic Grade (Grade III vs. Grade I, HR: 2.36), no surgery performed (no/unknown vs. yes, HR: 2.01), no chemotherapy performed were independent risk factors related to suicide in patients suffering esophageal cancer. Male sex, the older age, unmarried state, non-black race, histologic Grade III, no surgery performed, no chemotherapy performed were strongly related to suicide in patients suffering esophageal cancer.

ABSTRACT

Bone morphogenetic protein belongs to transcription growth factor superfamily ß; bone morphogenetic protein signal pathway regulates cell proliferation, differentiation, and apoptosis among different tissues. Cerebrovascular system supplies sufficient oxygen and blood into brain to maintain its normal function. The disorder of cerebrovascular system will result into serious cerebrovascular diseases, which is gradually becoming a major threat to human health in modern society. In recent decades, many studies have revealed the underlying biology and mechanism of bone morphogenetic protein signal pathway played in cerebrovascular system. This review will discuss the relationship between the two aspects, aiming to provide new perspective for non-invasive treatment and basic research of cerebrovascular diseases.

ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVE: Severe intracranial atherosclerotic stenosis has become one of the main causes resulting transient ischemic attack and stroke. This study aimed to evaluate the efficacy and safety of low profile visualized intraluminal support (LVIS) stent in treating symptomatic intracranial atherosclerotic stenosis. METHODS: Data of 31 patients with at least 70% stenosis treated with LVIS stent in our center were retrospectively collected between July 2017 and November 2020. Further evaluation of lesion characteristics, technical success rate, preoperative complication, clinical and angiographic follow-up outcome, delayed in-stent stenosis were conducted. RESULTS: Stent delivery and deployment were successfully achieved in all 31 patients (100%). 22 cases (71%) were located in anterior circulation and 9 cases (29%) were located in posterior circulation. The mean degree of stenosis lesion before stent deployment was 85.6 ±â€¯9.4%, while after stenting was 11.2 ±â€¯11.8%. One patient suffered from ischemic complication in stenting procedure, and timely delivery of rt-PA successfully recanalized the artery. Clinical follow-up was available in all 31patients (100%) with mean follow-up time 15.0 ±â€¯12.1(3-45) months. No patients experienced the recurrence of stroke or TIA or death after discharge. Angiographic follow-up was available in 21patients (67.7%) with mean follow-up time 11.43 ±â€¯6.8 (6-36) months. 19 patients (90.5%) were stable while 2 patients (9.5%) developed ISR in their last angiographic follow-up. The 2 patients received balloon angioplasty and reached satisfactory results after retreatment. CONCLUSION: This preliminary study suggests that LVIS stent deployment was a feasible approach in treating intracranial atherosclerotic stenosis with satisfactory procedure success rate, low complication rate and favorable long-term outcome.
