ABSTRACT

The cold bending method is a type of curved glass curtain wall construction method that has been used in practical engineering for a short time. It has the advantages of simple operation, high efficiency and low cost. However, the mechanical response and properties of glass panes caused by cold bending have not been solved effectively. To study the mechanical response and the properties of cold formed laminated tempered glass panes after applying with a wind load, cold bending and load tests of 9 laminated tempered glass panes were conducted by the orthogonal experimental design method. The effects of cold bending curvature, glass pane thickness and interlayer thickness were considered. In this paper, the response law of cold bending stress to the curvature and the relationship among the influencing factors were analyzed. The variation process of stress, the deflection of cold-formed glass panes under uniform load and the characteristics affected by cold-formed stress and deformation were studied. The results show that the cold bending stress is distributed in a saddle shape, and the curvature has the greatest influence on the cold bending stress, followed by the thickness of the glass panes. The influence of the interlayer thickness is small. The maximum stress appears near the corner of the short side direction adjacent to the cold bending corner. The cold bending stress increases linearly with increasing cold bending curvature. The cold bending stress and deformation have little effect on the change process of the later stage load effect.

ABSTRACT

Cancer-associated fibroblasts (CAFs) are "activated" fibroblasts in the tumor microenvironment (TME) and play a vital role in all steps of cancer development. Increasing evidence focusing on the function of CAFs suggests that CAFs are candidate therapeutic targets and that drugs targeting the modification of CAFs would suppress tumor progression and be beneficial to tumor treatment and prevention. In the present study, we found that curcumin reversed the phenotype of CAFs to that of peri-tumor fibroblast (PTF)-like cells by downregulating the expression of α-SMA (a special marker for CAFs) and inhibiting the secretion of pro-carcinogenic cytokines, including transforming growth factor-ß1 (TGF-ß1), matrix metalloproteinases 2 (MMP2), and stromal cell-derived factor-1 (SDF-1). We further demonstrated that the conditioned medium (CM) derived from CAFs promoted the proliferation of Cal27, and this effect was confirmed by the xenograft model. More importantly, we found that curcumin blocked the CAF-mediated enhancement of Cal27 proliferation in vitro and in vivo. In conclusion, our data suggest that curcumin reverses cell phenotype from CAF to PTF-like cells and suppresses the CAF-mediated proliferation and tumorigenicity of Cal27 by inhibiting TSCC CAFs.

ABSTRACT

To explore the genetic relationships between LRH-1 (rs2816948), CYP19 (rs727479 and rs700518), and P450scc (rs4077582) as a potential mechanism behind unexplained recurrent spontaneous abortions in a Chinese Han population. A case-control study was used and featured two groups: Patients with unexplained recurrent miscarriage (n = 82, abortion group) and those who voluntary surrendered of a normal early pregnancy (n = 97, control group). Abortion villi samples were obtained from all patients. Genomic DNA was later extracted and sequenced, after which statistical analyses performed to assess the relationship between single nucleotide polymorphisms and unexplained recurrent spontaneous abortions. There were significant differences in the genotypic and allelic distribution (p < .05) for CYP19 (rs727479) between the abortion and the control groups. There were no significant differences in the genotypic or allelic distributions (p > .05) for either the LRH-1 (rs2816948) or CYP19 (rs700518). There were also significant genotypic differences (p < .05) for P450scc (rs4077582), but no significant differences for its allelic distribution (p > .05). There was a significant correlation between the occurrence of unexplained recurrent spontaneous abortion and CYP19 (rs727479) single nucleotide polymorphisms.
