ABSTRACT

Information security and computing, two critical technological challenges for post-digital computation, pose opposing requirements - security (encryption) requires a source of unpredictability, while computing generally requires predictability. Each of these contrasting requirements presently necessitates distinct conventional Si-based hardware units with power-hungry overheads. This work demonstrates Cu0.3Te0.7/HfO2 ('CuTeHO') ion-migration-driven memristors that satisfy the contrasting requirements. Under specific operating biases, CuTeHO memristors generate truly random and physically unclonable functions, while under other biases, they perform universal Boolean logic. Using these computing primitives, this work experimentally demonstrates a single system that performs cryptographic key generation, universal Boolean logic operations, and encryption/decryption. Circuit-based calculations reveal the energy and latency advantages of the CuTeHO memristors in these operations. This work illustrates the functional flexibility of memristors in implementing operations with varying component-level requirements.

ABSTRACT

Ultracold polyatomic molecules offer opportunities1 in cold chemistry2,3, precision measurements4 and quantum information processing5,6, because of their rich internal structure. However, their increased complexity compared with diatomic molecules presents a challenge in using conventional cooling techniques. Here we demonstrate an approach to create weakly bound ultracold polyatomic molecules by electroassociation7 (F.D. et al., manuscript in preparation) in a degenerate Fermi gas of microwave-dressed polar molecules through a field-linked resonance8-11. Starting from ground-state NaK molecules, we create around 1.1 × 103 weakly bound tetratomic (NaK)2 molecules, with a phase space density of 0.040(3) at a temperature of 134(3) nK, more than 3,000 times colder than previously realized tetratomic molecules12. We observe a maximum tetramer lifetime of 8(2) ms in free space without a notable change in the presence of an optical dipole trap, indicating that these tetramers are collisionally stable. Moreover, we directly image the dissociated tetramers through microwave-field modulation to probe the anisotropy of their wavefunction in momentum space. Our result demonstrates a universal tool for assembling weakly bound ultracold polyatomic molecules from smaller polar molecules, which is a crucial step towards Bose-Einstein condensation of polyatomic molecules and towards a new crossover from a dipolar Bardeen-Cooper-Schrieffer superfluid13-15 to a Bose-Einstein condensation of tetramers. Moreover, the long-lived field-linked state provides an ideal starting point for deterministic optical transfer to deeply bound tetramer states16-18.

ABSTRACT

Background Breast cancer remains a pressing public health challenge in the United States, ranking as one of the most prevalent cancers and the second leading cause of cancer-related deaths among women. This study investigates the effectiveness of early mammogram screening in underserved populations. Methods Data from female patients receiving primary care at a tertiary hospital in Nashville between January 2022 and January 2023 were retrospectively analyzed. Inclusion criteria encompassed females aged 40 or older with initial mammogram screenings before turning 50. Exclusions included genetically or environmentally related risk factors, cosmetic motivations, age above 50 at first screening, and screenings prompted by physical exams. Results Of 150 eligible women aged 40-49, the majority (n=121, 80.7%) had normal findings, 18.0% (n=27) had benign lesions, and 1.3% (n=2) had suspicious/malignant lesions. About 30.7% (n=46) underwent additional testing due to suspicious masses, with ultrasounds and diagnostic mammograms being common. The breast malignancy positivity rate was 1.33% (n=2) for the study population and 4.3% among those requiring additional testing. The positivity rate for the population of Black American descent is 1% (n=2), and for the Hispanic population, it is 6.25% (n=1). Discussion Breast cancer remains a significant concern, with disparities in screening guidelines and varying age of diagnosis. Overdiagnosis and false positives are challenges, with our study highlighting potential benefits in early screening, particularly for populations with unique risk factors, such as smokers. However, the study's limitations, including a small sample size and demographic bias, necessitate larger, more diverse studies to establish stronger correlations. Shared decision-making in early mammogram screening is emphasized. Conclusion Early mammogram screening in the 40-49 age group may detect breast cancer cases, but guidelines remain inconsistent. The study recommends early screening at age 40, with awareness of potential advantages and disadvantages. Larger, more comprehensive studies are needed to inform breast cancer screening practices better.

ABSTRACT

This study aimed to identify post-traumatic growth and successful aging and the mediating effects of resilience and intolerance of uncertainty in breast cancer survivors. This study employed a descriptive survey approach. Data were collected from 143 breast cancer survivors between 27 January and 10 December 2021, at a cancer center in Gyeongsangnam-do, South Korea. SPSS/WIN 25.0 and PROCESS Macro version 3.5 were used for data analysis. Descriptive statistics were analyzed with SPSS. PROCESS was used to conduct a mediation analysis and the significance of the mediating effect was evaluated using 95% confidence intervals. Successful aging was significantly associated with post-traumatic growth, resilience, and the intolerance of uncertainty. The impact of post-traumatic growth on successful aging was mediated by resilience in breast cancer survivors. Resilience should be considered when developing nursing interventions to enhance post-traumatic growth and promote successful aging in breast cancer survivors.

ABSTRACT

BACKGROUND: Premenstrual syndrome (PMS) affects women's physical and mental health. Depression, stress, sleep disturbance, and eating attitude problems have been known to influence PMS. Furthermore, restrictions of daily life due to the COVID-19 pandemic have led to changes in sleep patterns and eating attitudes. Thus, it is necessary to closely examine how these factors affect PMS. This study aimed to examine the levels of PMS, stress, depression, sleep disturbance, and eating attitude problems among female college students who experience dysmenorrhea and determine the factors associated with PMS. METHODS: A cross-sectional online survey design was conducted using a convenience sample of 143 female college students in C City, South Korea. Data were collected from September 1 to 19, 2021 in South Korea using an online self-administered survey. Differences in participants' level of PMS according to physical health variables (e.g., smoking, water intake, menstrual pain intensity) and psychological issues (i.e., stress, depression, sleep disturbances, and eating attitude problems) were assessed with independent sample t-tests and one-way ANOVAs. Correlational analyses between these variables were also conducted. Additionally, multiple regression was performed to identify the factors influencing PMS. RESULTS: PMS severity was between normal (27.3%) and premenstrual dysphoric disorder (PMDD) (72.7%). PMS was associated positively with depression (r = .284, p = 001), stress (r = .274, p = .001), sleep disturbance (r = .440, p < .001), and eating attitude problems (r = .266, p = .001). Additionally, menstrual pain intensity (ß = 0.204), sleep disturbances (ß = 0.375), and eating attitude problems (ß = 0.202) were found to influence PMS. The regression model was significant (F = 16.553, p < .001) with an explanatory power of 24.7%. CONCLUSIONS: Considering the influencing factors of PMS identified in this study, interventions for participants experiencing PMS should be made. We propose that further study should be conducted to examine whether the severity of PMS changes according to menstrual pain, the pattern and degree of its change, and the paths through which sleep quality and eating attitude problems affect PMS.

ABSTRACT

Aluminum nitride (AlN) is one of the few electrically insulating materials with excellent thermal conductivity, but high-quality films typically require exceedingly hot deposition temperatures (>1000 °C). For thermal management applications in dense or high-power integrated circuits, it is important to deposit heat spreaders at low temperatures (<500 °C), without affecting the underlying electronics. Here, we demonstrate 100 nm to 1.7 µm thick AlN films achieved by low-temperature (<100 °C) sputtering, correlating their thermal properties with their grain size and interfacial quality, which we analyze by X-ray diffraction, transmission X-ray microscopy, as well as Raman and Auger spectroscopy. Controlling the deposition conditions through the partial pressure of reactive N2, we achieve an ∼3× variation in thermal conductivity (∼36-104 W m-1 K-1) of ∼600 nm films, with the upper range representing one of the highest values for such film thicknesses at room temperature, especially at deposition temperatures below 100 °C. Defect densities are also estimated from the thermal conductivity measurements, providing insight into the thermal engineering of AlN that can be optimized for application-specific heat spreading or thermal confinement.

ABSTRACT

Kombucha is a beverage fermented by SCOBY, which is a symbiotic culture of bacteria and yeast. Recently, kombucha has received significant attention due to its health benefits, which include antioxidant and anti-obesity effects. In this study, we investigated the characteristics of kombucha made with Tartary buckwheat and burdock, both known for their high polyphenols content. First, the total polyphenol content and antioxidant activity were measured by 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl and 2,2'-azino-bis(3-ethylbenzothiazoline-6-sulfonic acid) radical scavenging assays, which revealed a polyphenol content of 180 ug/mL in Tartary buckwheat kombucha and a high radical scavenging ability of over 90% in both kombucha preparations. Analysis of the changes in the organic acid content during fermentation revealed increases in various organic acid contents, such as glucuronic acid, lactic acid, and acetic acid. Glucuronic acid, especially, which has many functional properties in health, was found to be produced at a concentration of 4.03 g/L in Tartary buckwheat kombucha. Pancreatic lipase inhibitory ability analysis revealed inhibitory effects of 40.47% and 57.68% for Tartary buckwheat and burdock kombucha, respectively. The results of this study confirmed the antioxidant and anti-obesity effects of kombucha made from Tartary buckwheat and burdock, indicating the potential value of these ingredients as functional kombucha ingredients.

Despite the enormous interest in inorganic/polymer composite solid-state electrolytes (CSEs) for solid-state batteries (SSBs), the underlying ion transport phenomena in CSEs have not yet been elucidated. Here, we address this issue by formulating a mechanistic understanding of bi-percolating ion channels formation and ion conduction across inorganic-polymer electrolyte interfaces in CSEs. A model CSE is composed of argyrodite-type Li6PS5Cl (LPSCl) and gel polymer electrolyte (GPE, including Li+-glyme complex as an ion-conducting medium). The percolation threshold of the LPSCl phase in the CSE strongly depends on the elasticity of the GPE phase. Additionally, manipulating the solvation/desolvation behavior of the Li+-glyme complex in the GPE facilitates ion conduction across the LPSCl-GPE interface. The resulting scalable CSE (area = 8 × 6 (cm × cm), thickness ~ 40 µm) can be assembled with a high-mass-loading LiNi0.7Co0.15Mn0.15O2 cathode (areal-mass-loading = 39 mg cm-2) and a graphite anode (negative (N)/positive (P) capacity ratio = 1.1) in order to fabricate an SSB full cell with bi-cell configuration. Under this constrained cell condition, the SSB full cell exhibits high volumetric energy density (480 Wh Lcell-1) and stable cyclability at 25 °C, far exceeding the values reported by previous CSE-based SSBs.

ABSTRACT

We analytically show that the effective interaction potential between microwave-shielded polar molecules consists of an anisotropic van der Waals-like shielding core and a modified dipolar interaction. This effective potential is validated by comparing its scattering cross sections with those calculated using intermolecular potential involving all interaction channels. It is shown that a scattering resonance can be induced under microwave fields reachable in current experiments. With the effective potential, we further study the Bardeen-Cooper-Schrieffer pairing in the microwave-shielded NaK gas. We show that the superfluid critical temperature is drastically enhanced near the resonance. As the effective potential is suitable for exploring the many-body physics of molecular gases, our results pave the way for studies of the ultracold gases of microwave-shielded molecular gases.

ABSTRACT

A breakthrough in in-memory computing technologies hinges on the development of appropriate material platforms that can overcome their existing limitations, such as larger than optimal footprint and multiple serial computational steps, with potential accumulation of errors. Using a molecular switching element with multiple non-monotonic and deterministic transitions, the device count and the number of computational steps can be substantially reduced. With molecular materials, however, the realization of a reliable and robust platform is an unattained goal for decades. Here, crossbar arrays with up to 64 molecular memristors are fabricated to experimentally demonstrate 8-bit serial and 4-bit parallel adders that operate for thousands of measurement cycles with an estimated error probability of 10-16 . For performance benchmarking, a 32-bit parallel adder is designed and simulated with 268 million inputs including contributions from the peripheral circuitry showing a 47× higher energy efficiency, 93× faster operation, and 9% of the footprint, leading to 4390 times improved energy-delay product compared to a special purpose complementary metal-oxide-semiconductor (CMOS)-based multicore adder.

ABSTRACT

Glioblastoma (GBM) is the most common and aggressive malignant brain tumor in adults and is poorly controlled. Previous studies have shown that both macrophages and angiogenesis play significant roles in GBM progression, and co-targeting of CSF1R and VEGFR is likely to be an effective strategy for GBM treatment. Therefore, this study developed a novel and selective inhibitor of CSF1R and VEGFR, SYHA1813, possessing potent antitumor activity against GBM. SYHA1813 inhibited VEGFR and CSF1R kinase activities with high potency and selectivity and thus blocked the cell viability of HUVECs and macrophages and exhibited anti-angiogenetic effects both in vitro and in vivo. SYHA1813 also displayed potent in vivo antitumor activity against GBM in immune-competent and immune-deficient mouse models, including temozolomide (TMZ) insensitive tumors. Notably, SYHA1813 could penetrate the blood-brain barrier (BBB) and prolong the survival time of mice bearing intracranial GBM xenografts. Moreover, SYHA1813 treatment resulted in a synergistic antitumor efficacy in combination with the PD-1 antibody. As a clinical proof of concept, SYHA1813 achieved confirmed responses in patients with recurrent GBM in an ongoing first-in-human phase I trial. The data of this study support the rationale for an ongoing phase I clinical study (ChiCTR2100045380).

ABSTRACT

The U6 promoter is an important element driving sgRNA transcription in the CRISPR/Cas9 system. Seven PqU6 promo-ter sequences were cloned from the gDNA of Panax quinquefolium, and the transcriptional activation ability of the seven promoters was studied. In this study, seven PqU6 promoter sequences with a length of about 1 300 bp were cloned from the adventitious roots of P. quinquefolium cultivated for 5 weeks. Bioinformatics tools were used to analyze the sequence characteristics of PqU6 promoters, and the fusion expression vectors of GUS gene driven by PqU6-P were constructed. Tobacco leaves were transformed by Agrobacterium tumefaciens-mediated method for activity detection. The seven PqU6 promoters were truncated from the 5'-end to reach 283, 287, 279, 289, 295, 289, and 283 bp, respectively. The vectors for detection of promoter activity were constructed with GUS as a reported gene and used to transform P. quinquefolium callus and tobacco leaves. The results showed that seven PqU6 promoter sequences(PqU6-1P to PqU6-7P) were cloned from the gDNA of P. quinquefolium, with the length ranged from 1 246 bp to 1 308 bp. Sequence comparison results showed that the seven PqU6 promoter sequences and the AtU6-P promoter all had USE and TATA boxes, which are essential elements affecting the transcriptional activity of the U6 promoter. The results of GUS staining and enzyme activity test showed that all the seven PqU6 promoters had transcriptional activity. The PqU6-7P with a length of 1 269 bp had the highest transcriptional activity, 1.31 times that of the positive control P-35S. When the seven PqU6 promoters were truncated from the 5'-end(PqU6-1PA to PqU6-7PA), their transcriptional activities were different in tobacco leaves and P. quinquefolium callus. The transcriptional activity of PqU6-7PA promoter(283 bp) was 1.59 times that of AtU6-P promoter(292 bp) when the recipient material was P. quinquefolium callus. The findings provide more ideal endogenous U6 promoters for CRISPR/Cas9 technology in ginseng and other medicinal plants.

ABSTRACT

Objective:Exploring the clinical efficacy of using ultra-thin lobulated anterolateral thigh perforator flap(ALTPF) with retrograde separation of perforating vessels from the superficial and deep junction layer of the superficial fascia to repair large soft tissue defects in the foot.Methods:From August 2021 to November 2022, 8 patients (5 males and 3 females) were admitted to the Second Department of Hand and Foot Surgery, the Affiliated Central Hospital of Dalian University of Technology. The patients were 28 to 52 years old in age. The soft tissue defects were located in dorsal and plantar foot. At the plantar foot, the wound involved the weight-bearing area with explosion of bone, tendon or internal fixtures. The area of soft tissue defects was 6.0 cm × 5.0 cm - 16.0 cm × 8.0 cm, and the sizes of ALTPF were 8.0 cm ×5.5 cm - 18.0 cm × 8.5 cm. Preoperative high frequency CUD combined with CTA angiography were employed to locate the 2 flap perforator vessels. By keeping the perforator vessels at center and according to the soft tissue defect area and the wound shape, an ALTPF with a proper size and shape was designed in anterolateral thigh. The perforator were separated in the boundary layer between superficial and deep fascia, where it helped to obviously thin the flap. After the flap was harvested, it was further lobulated between the 2 perforators into 2 lobes after having confirmed the effective blood supply. Finally the lobulated ALTPF was transferred to covered the defect in foot. Cautions should be taken to ensure that the flap covered the weight-bearing area of foot. All the donor sites were directly sutured. Postoperative follow-up was conducted to observe the survival of flaps and the functional recovery of the reconstructed site, also to evaluate the clinical effect. Postoperative follow-up included outpatient visits and reviews over WeChat or telephone. Recovery of the ankle motor function was evaluated according to the American Orthopedic Foot and Ankle Societ (AOFAS) ankle-hind foot score scale.Results:All 8 ALTPF survived. Over 6 to 18 months (10.8 months in average) of follow-up, the transferred flaps had good blood supply, soft in texture, with good elasticity and thin in appearance. Appearance and function of donor sites recovered well, except 1 patient who had mild scar hyperplasia. The plantar flap had good abrasion resistance. No flap damage, bleeding or granulation tissue hyperplasia occurred when walking. The mean score of AOFAS ankle-hind foot score achieved 95.6.Conclusion:The application of ultra-thin lobulated ALTPF with retrograde separation of perforating vessels from the superficial fascia at the junction layer for repairing large soft tissue defects in the foot has good clinical efficacy.

Objective:To explore the management effect of information nurses in the reception of new surgical instruments and to provide a reference for improving the quality of instrument management in central sterile supply department.Methods:This was a quasi-experimental study. A total of 45 packages of 227 pieces received from January to July 2021 in central sterile supply department of the First Affiliated Hospital of Zhengzhou University were selected as the control group by convenience sampling method, and the conventional mode was used to receive new surgical instruments. Another 51 packages of 259 pieces received from November 2021 to June 2022 were selected as the observation group, and the information nurse management system was set up to receive new surgical instruments. The observation and comparison of the time to complete the receipt of new surgical instruments in central sterile supply department, the incidence of adverse events in the operation process and the satisfaction of medical and nursing staff with the management of new surgical instruments were conducted.Results:The receiving time for newly added surgical instruments of the observation group was 6.00(5.00, 8.00) hours and that of the control group was 28.00(20.00, 42.50) hours, with a statistically significant difference between the two groups ( Z = - 8.26, P<0.01). The incidence of adverse events of new surgical instruments was 0.4%(1/259) in the observation group and 6.2%(14/227) in the control group, there was significant difference between the two groups ( χ2 = 13.52, P<0.01). The satisfaction degree of medical staff in the observation group was 100% (50/50), higher than 72% (36/50) in the control group, and the difference between the two groups was statistically significant ( χ2 = 16.28, P<0.01). Conclusions:The implementation of the post of information nurse in the special post responsibility system in the management of new surgical instruments can effectively manage the specifications of surgical instruments, reduce the receiving time and the occurrence of adverse events, improve the satisfaction of medical staff.

Recently, social media marketing has become one of the most significant growth channels for many businesses. However, many companies are still unclear about using social media marketing to their advantage, particularly in an e-commerce environment. In this background, this study examines the effect of website quality, consumer satisfaction, and eWOM on online purchase intention. An online survey was conducted with 789 online Chinese shoppers from four cities-Harbin, Shenyang, Guangzhou, and Shenzhen. Structural equation modeling (SEM) was used to analyze the hypotheses. The findings show that each variable had a high impact on eWOM with website quality (information quality, system quality, and service quality), which in turn positively increased consumer online purchase intentions in China's e-commerce business. Additionally, findings show a significant gender gap in online shopping behavior. This novel research provides several managerial guidelines that support managers in improving their business performance in the e-commerce industry. This research also highlighted some limitations.

Background and purpose: abdominal tuberculosis (TB) is a common form of extrapulmonary TB but it is still a diagnostic dilemma in clinical practice. This study aimed to highlight the clinical features and diagnostic approaches for abdominal TB.Methods: seventy cases of diagnosed abdominal TB were retrospectively collected between August 1st, 2015 and June 30th, 2020. They were classified as peritoneal TB, lymph node TB, gastrointestinal TB, visceral TB or mixed TB.Results: eighteen patients were diagnosed with peritoneal TB, nine with lymph node TB, five with gastrointestinal TB, two with visceral TB and 36 with mixed TB. More than 65 % of the patients had tuberculosis of other sites except the abdomen. The median diagnosis time was 60 days. Ascites (58.6 %), abdominal distension (48.6 %), weight loss (44.3 %) and fever (42.9 %) were the most common symptoms. The overall microbiological and histological detection rates were 70.0 % and 38.6 %, respectively. The non-ascite samples yielded a higher microbiological confirmation rate (63.6 %) than the total samples (40.8 %). Diagnosis was confirmed histologically in 18 patients (69.2 %). Forty-five cases (64.3 %) were clinically diagnosed. Invasive procedures such as surgery (6/7), percutaneous biopsy (7/7) and endoscopy in lymph node TB (4/5) had high confirmation rates.Conclusions: the diagnosis of abdominal TB should be reached by a combination of clinical, laboratory, radiological, microbiological and pathological findings. BACKGROUND: Sjogren's syndrome (SS) is a systemic autoimmune disease featured with a dry mouth and dry eyes. Several autoantibodies, including anti-SSA, anti-SSB, antinuclear antibodies can be detected in patients with SS. Oxidation-specific epitopes (OSEs) can be formed from malondialdehyde (MDA)-modified protein adducts and trigger chronic inflammation. In this study, our purposes were used serum levels of anti-MDA-modified peptide adducts autoantibodies to evaluate predictive performance by machine learning algorithms in primary Sjögren's syndrome (pSS) and assess the association between pSS and healthy controls. METHODS: Three novel MDA-modified peptide adducts, including immunoglobulin (Ig) gamma heavy chain 1 (IGHG1)102-131, complement factor H (CFAH)1045-1062, and Ig heavy constant alpha 1 (IGHA1)307-327 were identified and validated. Serum levels of protein, MDA-modified protein adducts, MDA, and autoantibodies recognizing unmodified peptides and MDA-modified peptide adducts were measured. Statistically significance in correlations and odds ratios (ORs) were estimated. RESULTS: The random forest classifier utilized autoantibodies combination composed of IgM anti-IGHG1102-131, IgM anti-IGHG1102-131 MDA and IgM anti-IGHA1307-327 achieved predictive performance as an accuracy of 88.0%, a sensitivity of 93.7%, and a specificity of 84.4% which may be as potential diagnostic biomarkers to differentiate patients with pSS from rheumatoid arthritis (RA), and secondary SS in RA and HCs. CONCLUSIONS: Our findings imply that low levels of IgA anti-IGHG1102-131 MDA (OR = 2.646), IgA anti-IGHG1102-131 (OR = 2.408), IgA anti-CFAH1045-1062 (OR = 2.571), and IgA anti-IGHA1307-327 (OR = 2.905) may denote developing risks of pSS, respectively.

STUDY OBJECTIVES: This study examined the relationship between total sleep time and chronic diseases among people with disabilities using data from the Panel Survey of Employment for the Disabled to identify differences according to sex and age. METHODS: This study analyzed secondary data analysis from the second wave of the Panel Survey of Employment for the Disabled (collected 2016-2018; n = 5,092) using a generalized estimating equation model and chi-square test. RESULTS: The main findings were these: First, the incidence of chronic disease was 1.84 and 1.24 times higher among patients with disabilities who slept less than 5 and 6 hours per night, respectively, than those who slept 7 hours. Second, female patients experienced more sleep problems than male patients. Third, chronic disease was most prevalent among patients with the shortest sleep time, regardless of age. CONCLUSIONS: The results suggested that patients with disabilities who slept less than 6 hours per night were more likely to experience chronic diseases than those who slept more than 6 hours, with women especially vulnerable. Future research should consider multiple variables to clarify the relationship between total sleep time and health-related outcomes associated with various disabilities and chronic diseases. ABSTRACT

BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE: abdominal tuberculosis (TB) is a common form of extrapulmonary TB but it is still a diagnostic dilemma in clinical practice. This study aimed to highlight the clinical features and diagnostic approaches for abdominal TB. METHODS: seventy cases of diagnosed abdominal TB were retrospectively collected between August 1st, 2015 and June 30th, 2020. They were classified as peritoneal TB, lymph node TB, gastrointestinal TB, visceral TB or mixed TB. RESULTS: eighteen patients were diagnosed with peritoneal TB, nine with lymph node TB, five with gastrointestinal TB, two with visceral TB and 36 with mixed TB. More than 65 % of the patients had tuberculosis of other sites except the abdomen. The median diagnosis time was 60 days. Ascites (58.6 %), abdominal distension (48.6 %), weight loss (44.3 %) and fever (42.9 %) were the most common symptoms. The overall microbiological and histological detection rates were 70.0 % and 38.6 %, respectively. The non-ascite samples yielded a higher microbiological confirmation rate (63.6 %) than the total samples (40.8 %). Diagnosis was confirmed histologically in 18 patients (69.2 %). Forty-five cases (64.3 %) were clinically diagnosed. Invasive procedures such as surgery (6/7), percutaneous biopsy (7/7) and endoscopy in lymph node TB (4/5) had high confirmation rates. CONCLUSIONS: the diagnosis of abdominal TB should be reached by a combination of clinical, laboratory, radiological, microbiological and pathological findings.
