ABSTRACT

Autism spectrum disorder (ASD) is a neurodevelopmental disorder characterized by social impairment, restricted interests, and repetitive stereotyped behaviors. At present, its pathogenesis has not been fully understood. Various methods are used for clinical treatment and intervention, among which physical activity (PA) intervention also has an obvious effect. This study has used bibliometric methods and visual analysis methods to analyze 885 studies of PA intervention in ASD from 2003 to 2022 in the Web of Science (WoS) database in order to provide theoretical support for the follow-up research on the effect of PA with ASD. The main findings of this study are as follows. First, the literature on PA interventions in ASD research showed a growing trend. The leading institution in this field is the University of Delaware, forming a core group of authors represented by authors such as Sean Healy and Carol Curtin et al. Second, the research focus of this research area mainly includes PA interventions for children and adolescents with ASD. PA can improve symptoms such as stereotyped behaviors and motor function in patients with ASD as well as can reduce childhood obesity rates and improve quality of life. Third, skill, youth, prevalence, and meta-analysis systematic reviews were found. It is the long-term concern and focus of researchers. In conclusion, the current research is only a short-term analysis, and it is not possible to verify the long-term effect; thus, future data analysis should evaluate and explore the long-term effects of PA interventions on ASD including cohort and longitudinal study types focused on the rehabilitation of patients with ASD. Moreover, testing the sustainability of benefits for children with ASD and constructing a multidimensional exercise integrated intervention model are the main directions for future research in this field.

ABSTRACT

Managing acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) after severe blunt traumatic lung injury can be challenging. In cases where patients are refractory to conventional therapy, extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) should be considered. In addition, the heparin-coated circuit can reduce hemorrhagic complications in patients with multiple traumas. Although prolonged ECMO may be necessary, excellent outcomes are frequently associated. In this study, we report long-term support with venovenous-ECMO applied in a child with severe blunt trauma in Korea. This 10-year-old and 30 kg male with severe blunt thoracic trauma after a car accident developed severe ARDS a few days later, and ECMO was administered for 33 days. Because of pulmonary hemorrhage during ECMO support, heparin was stopped for 3 days and then restarted. He was weaned from ECMO successfully and has been able to run without difficulty for the 2 years since discharge.

ABSTRACT

The purpose of this study is developing and applying psychological skill training (PST) program as one of the methods of intervention for psychological rehabilitation in order for a successful recovery of the professional soccer player (K). He is currently on rehabilitation training after an injury, and we tried to see the results of this program. It was designed as a program of 17 sessions including 3 interviews and diagnostic checks (psychological skill questionnaire: PSQ, profiles of mood states: POMS) and 14 sessions of PST (goal setting, anxiety reduction, concentration, confidence). After the application of the program, the levels of anxiety reduction, goal setting, concentration, and confidence were visibly increased, and in POMS, which is an indicator of physical rehabilitation process of K, vigor was increased. Meanwhile negative emotions, such as tension, depression, and fatigue were decreased. This program was developed for K, and therefore it has some difficulties in applying it to other players. However, the significance of this study is that it could serve as a basis on developing programs for other players in the rehabilitation process. In addition, it has also proven that PST can be used as a successful method for psychological rehabilitation intervention.
