ABSTRACT

Skin regeneration is hindered by poor vascularization, prolonged inflammation, and excessive scar tissue formation, which necessitate newer strategies to simultaneously induce blood vessel regeneration, resolve inflammation, and induce host cell recruitment. Concurrent deployment of multiple biological cues to realize synergistic reparative effects may be an enticing avenue for wound healing. Herein, we simultaneously deployed SDF (stromal cell-derived factor)- 1α, VEGF (vascular endothelial growth factor)-binding peptide (BP), and GLP (glucagon like peptide)- 1 analog, liraglutide (LG) in core/shell poly(L-lactide-co-glycolide)/gelatin fibers to harness their synergistic effects for skin repair in healthy as well as diabetic wound models in rats. Microscopic techniques, such as SEM and TEM revealed fibrous and core/shell type morphology of membranes. Boyden chamber assay and scratch-wound assay displayed significant migration of HUVECs (human umbilical vein endothelial cells) in SDF-1α containing fibers. Subcutaneous implantation of membranes revealed higher cellular infiltration in SDF-1α loaded fibers, especially, those which were co-loaded with LG or BP. Implantation of membranes in an excisional wound model in healthy rats further showed significant and rapid wound closure in dual cues loaded groups as compared to control or single cue loaded groups. Similarly, the implantation of dressings in type 2 diabetes rat model revealed fast healing, skin appendages regeneration, and blood vessel regeneration in dual cues loaded fibers (SDF-1α/LG, SDF-1α/BP). Taken together, core/shell type fibers containing bioactive peptides significantly promoted wound repair in healthy as well as diabetic wound models in rats.

ABSTRACT

The COVID-19 pandemic highlighted the lack of understanding around effective public health interventions to curtail the spread of an emerging respiratory virus. Here, we examined the public health approaches implemented by each state to limit the spread and burden of COVID-19. Our analysis revealed that stronger statewide interventions positively correlated with fewer COVID-19 deaths, but some neighboring states with distinct intervention strategies had similar SARS-CoV-2 case trajectories. Additionally, more than two weeks is needed to observe an impact on SARS-CoV-2 cases after an intervention is implemented. These data provide a critical framework to inform future interventions during emerging pandemics.

ABSTRACT

Objective Through a survey of medical students in autonomous learning, to understand students' learning motivation and learning strategies and find out the existing problems, and to provide the basis for the school to organize autonomous learning and improve the teaching quality. Methods Convenient sampling method was used to extract 1 500 students' autonomous learning scale who were freshman and sophomore, junior students and 1 467 valid questionnaires were collected. According to the corresponding research situation of Zhejiang Normal University, SPSS 19.0 was used to compare the different types of students in the school, and the t test or q test were also done. Results The situation of college students' autonomous learning was better. The girl's average score was (312.51 ±14.03) which was higher than the boys in the school (286.16 ±13.69)and the girls in the control group (302.67 ±10.37). The difference was statistically significant (P<0.05). The average total score of the junior college students (307.92 ±13.84) was better than that of freshman and sophomore (P<0.05), which suggested that junior students had the strongest independent learning ability. Conclusion Colleges and universities should be based on the actual situation of students and formulate corresponding policies and measures from the autonomous learning motivation, the boys dor-mitory management, to ensure the stability of teaching quality improvement.

ABSTRACT

School of public health of Qiqihar Medical University has integrated the concept of talent cultivation “University excellence, big medicine sincere” and the talents training goal of “three orientation” with CDIO engineering education mode. From the philosophy and mode of engineering education, the school has carried on the comprehensive reform on training target, training model, training plan, course setting, innovative practice system, the teaching reform and assessment methods.“Target management stage” training model has also been formulated and implemented to explore the education model of training students' comprehensive quality and ability which can not only meet the social needs but also improve the various aspects throughout their college.

ABSTRACT

Objective To observe and assess the effect of different dosages of aspirin on inflammatory biomarkers, hemorheology (platelet aggregation rate) and clinical prognosis in patients with acute coronary syndrome ( ACS). Methods ACS patients were randomly assigned to receive different dosages of aspirin treatment orally. Patients in group A,B and C took 100 mg, 500 mg and 1000 mg of aspirin per day respectively. They were treated and followed-up for 1 year. High-sensitivity C-reactive protein ( hsCRP) , IL-6, tumor necrosis TNFot and platelet aggregation rate were examined and major adverse cardiac events( MACE) were recorded. Results A total of 312 patients with ACS were enrolled in the study. The baseline characteristics of the three groups were not different with respect to age, gender, cardiovascular risk profile, level of inflammatory biomarkers and concomitant treatment before and after randomization. The levels of baseline serum hsCRP, IL-6 and TNFa were higher in subjects of the study as compared with normal reference value (P<0. 05, <0. 05, <0. 01) and they decreased significantly after therapy with 3 different doses of aspirin (detected at 30 days, 6 months and 12 months, P <0. 001 ) , but there were no significant differences among the three groups( P >0. 05) . Rehospitalization , MACE and the change of platelet aggregation ratio were not significantly different among the three groups. The incidence of gastrointestinal complaints was significantly higher in groups B and C than in group A ( P < 0. 05 ). Conclusions The levels of serum inflammatory biomarker increase in patients with ACS. Aspirin therapy may decrease the level of inflammatory markers significantly, but increasing the dosage of aspirin from 100 mg to 1000 mg daily does not decrease the level of inflammatory markers and the clinical MACEs further. However, the incidence of gastrointestinal complaints increase significantly with the increase of aspirin dosage.

ABSTRACT

Objective To investigate the microvessel density of stomach tumor and the relationship between the microvessel density and CT findings. Methods Conventional contrast-enhanced CT scans were performed in 64 patients with stomach tumor(OMNIPAQUE 100 ml,3.0 ml/s),the images at 45 s were gained. After operation, the specimens with partial normal stomach tissue were dealed with injecting the contrast medium through its feeding arteries(10 ml/100 g,within 30 min),then, the specimens underwent CT scan(delayed time 10 s and 20 s),the nets of blood vessel of the masses were reconstructed by post-processed.The density of masses was evaluated in comparison with the enhanced effect of masses before operation. The pathological examinations of specimens were done and the microvessel density of tumors were measured through immunohistochemical technique. The hemodynamic characteristics of tumors were analysed. Results In tumors, the highest density(D)increased with the tumor rank(beside dead band). The visive vessels of specimen were more than that on conventional contrast-enhanced CT,but the D/d(the highest density in the masses/the density in normal stomach tissue)was basically consistent. Conclusion For gastric carcinoma, the D/d ratio can reflect the microvessel density of the tumors on certainly and the hemodynamic characteristics of tumors.
