ABSTRACT

Unexpected traffic accidents cause traffic congestion and aggravate the unsafe situation on the roadways. Reducing the impact of such congestion by introducing Connected and Autonomous Vehicles (CAVs) into the traditional traffic flow is possible. It requires estimating the incident's duration and analyzing the incident's impact area to determine the appropriate strategy. To guide the driver in making efficient and accurate judgments and avoiding secondary traffic congestion, the Cooperative Adaptive Cruise Control (CACC) model with dynamic safety distance and the Intelligent Driver Model (IDM) based on the safety potential field theory are introduced to build the evolution model of accidental traffic congestion under diversion interference and non-interference. The Huatao Interchange section of the Inner Ring Highway in the Banan District of Chongqing, China, was selected as the test section for simulating mixed traffic flow under different CAVs permeability (Pc). The relationship between the evacuation time, evacuation traffic volume, and the accident impact degree index (including the farthest queue length and accident duration) under the diversion intervention scenario was analyzed, respectively. The results of the study indicate that the higher the penetration of CAVs, the more significant the improvement in traffic flow occupancy, flow, and speed. Diversion interventions reduce congestion, about 50 % of the duration without interventions, when Pc ≤ 80 %. The traffic volume of diversion interference is non-linearly positively correlated with the maximum queue length, and the earlier the interference time, the stronger the positive correlation. The negative correlation between the interference time and queue length is weak at low evacuation traffic volume. With the increase in evacuation traffic volume, the influence of evacuation time on queue length becomes stronger. The maximum queue length value interval under different conditions is [348 m, 3140 m], and the shortest evacuation time is [1649 s, 2834 s]. The traffic flow data obtained from the simulation are imported into the episodic traffic congestion evolution model. The congestion evaluation indexes are calculated under non-interference and interference measures and compared with the simulation results. The maximum relative error is within 5.38 %. The results can be of great significance in relieving congestion caused by traffic accidents and promptly restoring road capacity.

ABSTRACT

Net primary productivity (NPP) is an indicator to reflect the production capacity of terrestrial ecosystems, as well as a key indicator for ecological quality. NPP at large scale is difficult to be measured. At present, most of the assessment of ecosystem quality uses NPP products with low resolution, which cannot capture the detailed characteristics of the ecosystem and is not conducive to the assessment of ecosystem quality at small-scale. The establishment of a rapid and efficient assessment method for small-scale ecosystem quality will greatly promote the protection and restoration of ecosystems in China. We focused on the calculation method of ecosystem quality assessment and NPP, and optimized the calculation process of the NPP, and obtained NPP by remote sensing without ground observation data. We established a regression model for remote sensing inversion of leaf area index, and estimated the vegetation coverage by using dimidiate pixel model, developed a set of methods for rapid assessment of ecosystem quality by remote sensing. Taking Nanwenghe National Nature Reserve as an example, we evaluated the change of ecosystem quality from 2001 to 2022. The results showed that from 2001 to 2022, the ecosystem qua-lity of the reserve was good as a whole, and that the area with good and excellent quality accounted for more than 85% in 2022. High vegetation coverage was the backbone of the sustainable good ecosystem quality of the reserve. From 2001 to 2022, ecosystem quality of the reserve showed a trend of first decreasing and then increasing, with the lowest point of ecosystem quality in 2013. This method had achieved good results in the evaluation of ecosystem quality in Nanwenghe National Nature Reserve. The index optimization method proposed in this study could facilitate the rapid and accurate assessment of ecosystem quality in small-scale regions, and thus provides technical reference for the precise improvement of ecosystem quality.

ABSTRACT

Introduction: Current guidelines recommended patent foramen ovale (PFO) occlusion as the preferred treatment for PFO-related cryptogenic stroke (CS); however, finding the causative foramen ovale remains challenging. This study aimed to identify predictors and establish a scoring system by assessing PFO morphology and stroke-related factors. Methods: Based on a prospective multicenter registered clinical trial, we compared data mainly derived from transesophageal echocardiography (TEE) and clinical history in patients with PFO-related CS and those without CS (non-CS) with incidental PFO. Subsequently, we explored independent predictors using logistic analysis, established a scoring system based on the results, and finally evaluated the scoring system using receiver operating characteristic (ROC) analysis and internal validation. Results: 75 patients with PFO-related CS and 147 non-CS patients were enrolled. Multivariate logistic analysis showed that the change in PFO height, large PFO, atrial septal aneurysm (ASA), and sustained right-to-left shunt (RLS) had independent relationships with CS. Based on the odds ratio value of each independent factor, a scoring system was built: change in PFO height ≥ 1.85 mm (3 points), large PFO (2 points), ASA (5 points), sustained RLS (2 points). 0-2 points correspond to low-risk PFO, 3-5 points medium-risk PFO, and 7-12 points high-risk PFO. ROC analysis showed an area under the curve of 0.80 to predict CS. The proportion of patients with CS is increasing based on these points. Conclusions: Our study screened out the change in PFO height as an independent predictor of CS. A simple and convenient scoring system can provide constructive guidance for identifying whether the PFO is causal and consequently selecting patients more likely to benefit from closure.

ABSTRACT

The features of quasi-stationary signals (QSS) are considered to be in a direct position determination (DPD) framework, and a real-valued DPD algorithm of QSS for nested arrays is proposed. By stacking the vectorization form of the signal's covariance for different frames and further eliminating noise, a new noise-eliminated received signal matrix is obtained first. Then, the combination of the Khatri-Rao subspace method and subspace data fusion method was performed to form the cost function. High complexity can be reduced by matrix reconstruction, including the modification of the dimension-reduced matrix and unitary transformation. Ultimately, the advantage of lower complexity, compared with the previous algorithm, is verified by complexity analysis, and the superiority over the existing algorithms, in terms of the maximum number of identifiable sources, estimation accuracy, and resolution, are corroborated by some simulation results.

ABSTRACT

Atrial fibrillation (AF) is highly prevalent in patients with mitral stenosis (MS), but the efficacy of left atrial appendage occlusion (LAAO) in these patients remains unclear. The aim of this study was to evaluate the efficacy and safety of LAAO in patients with MS complicated by AF at high risk of bleeding. We recruited patients from September 2015 to September 2018. We compared the 3-year outcomes of LAAO in 21 patients with AF complicated by MS and 42 sex- and age-matched patients with AF without MS.The MS group had more cases of peripheral arterial embolism (28.6% versus 2.4%, P = 0.004), more spontaneous echo contrast (47.6% versus 9.5%, P = 0.001), a larger LAA orifice diameter (P < 0.01), and a slower LAA flow (P < 0.05) than the Non-MS group. The mean size of the selected occluder device was bigger for patients with MS than for patients with Non-MS (29.2 ± 3.7 versus 26.9 ± 3.1 mm, P = 0.014). In the first 45 follow-up days, 2 (9.5%) patients with MS had device-related thrombi (DRT); one of them had transient ischemic attack 24 hours postoperatively. From 45 days to 6 months, one patient in each group had DRT. After 6 months, two patients in the Non-MS group still had residual leaks; one of them had a stroke, with a small DRT. The proportion of dual antiplatelet therapy was higher in the Non-MS group than in the MS group (33.3% versus 4.8%, P = 0.012), but this population had an increased bleeding risk.LAAO is relatively effective and safe for preventing embolic events in patients with MS complicated by AF, at high risk of bleeding.

ABSTRACT

In this study, a magnetic solid-phase extraction (MSPE) method coupled with High-Performance Liquid Chromatography Mass Spectrometry (HPLC-MS/MS) for the determination of illegal basic dyes in food samples was developed and validated. This method was based on Magnetic sulfonated reduced graphene oxide (M-S-RGO), which was sensitive and selective to analytes with structure of multiaromatic rings and negatively charged ions. Several factors affecting MSPE efficiency such as pH and adsorption time were optimized. Under the optimum conditions, the calibration curves exhibited good linearity, ranging from 5 to 60 µg/g with correlation coefficients >0.9950. The limits of detection of 16 basic dyes were in the range of 0.01-0.2 µg/L. The recoveries ranged from 70% to 110% with RSD% < 10%. The results indicate that M-S-RGO is an efficient and selective adsorbent for the extraction and cleanup of basic dyes. Due to the MSPE procedures, matrix effect and interference were eliminated in the analysis of HPLC-MS/MS without the matrix-matched standards. Thus, validation data showed that the proposed MSPE-HPLC-MS/MS method was rapid, efficient, selective, and sensitive for the determination of illegal basic dyes in foods.

ABSTRACT

Objectives: Idiopathic pulmonary arterial hypertension (IPAH) is a rare but severe lung disorder, which may lead to heart failure and early mortality. However, little is known about the etiology of IPAH. Thus, the present study aimed to establish the differentially expressed genes (DEGs) between IPAH and normal tissues, which may serve as potential prognostic markers in IPAH. Furthermore, we utilized a versatile computational method, CIBERSORT to identify immune cell infiltration characteristics in IPAH. Materials and Methods: The GSE117261 and GSE48149 datasets were obtained from the Gene Expression Omnibus database. The GSE117261 dataset was adopted to screen DEGs between IPAH and the control groups with the criterion of |log2 fold change| ≥ 1, adjusted P < 0.05, and to further explore their potential biological functions via Gene Ontology analysis, Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes Pathway analysis, and Gene Set Enrichment Analysis. Moreover, the support vector machine (SVM)-recursive feature elimination and the least absolute shrinkage and selection operator regression model were performed jointly to identify the best potential biomarkers. Then we built a regression model based on these selected variables. The GSE48149 dataset was used as a validation cohort to appraise the diagnostic efficacy of the SVM classifier by receiver operating characteristic (ROC) analysis. Finally, immune infiltration was explored by CIBERSORT in IPAH. We further analyzed the correlation between potential biomarkers and immune cells. Results: In total, 75 DEGs were identified; 40 were downregulated, and 35 genes were upregulated. Functional enrichment analysis found a significantly enrichment in heme binding, inflammation, chemokines, cytokine activity, and abnormal glycometabolism. HBB, RNASE2, S100A9, and IL1R2 were identified as the best potential biomarkers with an area under the ROC curve (AUC) of 1 (95%CI = 0.937-1.000, specificity = 100%, sensitivity = 100%) in the discovery cohort and 1(95%CI = 0.805-1.000, specificity = 100%, sensitivity = 100%) in the validation cohort. Moreover, immune infiltration analysis by CIBERSORT showed a higher level of CD8+ T cells, resting memory CD4+ T cells, gamma delta T cells, M1 macrophages, resting mast cells, as well as a lower level of naïve CD4+ T cells, monocytes, M0 macrophages, activated mast cells, and neutrophils in IPAH compared with the control group. In addition, HBB, RNASE2, S100A9, and IL1R2 were correlated with immune cells. Conclusion: HBB, RNASE2, S100A9, and IL1R2 were identified as potential biomarkers to discriminate IPAH from the control. There was an obvious difference in immune infiltration between patient with IPAH and normal groups.

ABSTRACT

The synthesis and properties of ß-amino acids have drawn considerable attention owing to their ubiquitous presence in naturally occurring products of biological importance. While ß3-amino acids can be readily prepared from α-amino acids via one-carbon homologation, the synthesis of ß2-amino acids generally requires multistep efforts. This review focuses on the recent advances in the synthesis of ß2-amino acids and their derivatives from substituted ß-nitropropionate analogues obtained from the stereoselective transformation of ß-nitroacrylates.

ABSTRACT

The asymmetric conjugate addition of arylboronic acids to N-phthalimidodehydroalanine 1i catalyzed by Rh(I)/L1a enables the facile preparation of chiral functionalized phenylalanines. The reaction proceeds by a conjugate addition and enantioselective protonation cascade, affording a rhodium enolate that undergoes re-face protonation. The reaction tolerates various arylboronic acids and can be used in the gram-scale synthesis of (S)-phenylalanine hydrochloride, demonstrating the reaction scope and the synthetic feasibility of the process.
