ABSTRACT

As a photophilous plant, rice is susceptible to low-light stress during its growth. The Sichuan Basin is a typical low-light rice-producing area. In this study, eight rice varieties with different shade tolerances were studied from 2021 to 2022. The physiological adaptability and yield formation characteristics of rice were studied with respect to photosynthetic physiological characteristics and dry matter accumulation characteristics, and the response mechanism of rice to low light stress was revealed. The results showed that the shading treatment significantly increased the chlorophyll a, chlorophyll b, and total chlorophyll contents in the leaves of direct-seeded rice after heading, and the total chlorophyll content increased by 1.68-29.70%. Nitrate reductase (NR) activity first increased and then decreased under each treatment, and the shading treatment reduced the NR activity of direct-seeded rice. Compared to the control treatment, the peroxidase (POD) activity of each variety increased from 7 to 24 d after the shading treatment. The transketolase (TK) activity in direct-seeded hybrid rice increased under low light stress. Compared with the control, shading treatment significantly reduced the aboveground dry matter, grain number per panicle, and seed setting rate of direct-seeded rice at the full heading stage and maturity stage, thus reducing the yield of direct-seeded rice by 26.10-34.11%. However, under the shading treatment, Zhenliangyou 2018 and Jingliangyou 534 maintained higher chlorophyll content and related enzyme activities, accumulated more photosynthetic products, and reduced yield. In general, Zhenliangyou 2018 and Jingliangyou 534 still had a yield of 7.06-8.33 t·hm-2 under low light. It indicated that Zhenliangyou 2018 and Jingliangyou 534 had better stability and stronger tolerance to weak light stress and had a higher yield potential in weak light areas such as Sichuan.

INTRODUCTION: Streptococcal toxic shock syndrome (STSS) is a severe consequence of infections from Streptococcus pyogenes. The early identification and timely intervention with appropriate anti-infective agents are pivotal for managing pediatric STSS. This study evaluates the effectiveness of various treatment regimens for STSS in children. METHODS: Clinical data of children with STSS resulting from ß-hemolytic streptococcal infections in two hospitals were retrospectively analyzed from January 2009 to April 2023. Additionally, literature from the China National Knowledge Infrastructure on pediatric STSS was examined. Antimicrobial treatments were categorized into four groups based on their compositions, with an additional categorization for adjunct therapeutic drugs. RESULTS: Of 32 confirmed STSS cases, all displayed sensitivity to ampicillin, ß-lactam antibiotics, and vancomycin, but resistance to clindamycin, erythromycin, and tetracycline. From the literature, 23 studies with 50 cases were extracted, leading to a total of 82 patients for evaluation. The efficacy rates varied significantly among the four treatment groups. Notably, the standard penicillin-containing group exhibited the highest efficacy (86.4%), while the group with macrolides/unused antibiotics registered a 0% efficacy rate. The other two groups demonstrated efficacy rates of 32.1% and 42.3%. CONCLUSION: For pediatric STSS, Streptococcus pyogenes shows notable sensitivity to ampicillin. Implementing timely ß-lactam antibiotics, specifically penicillin, in conjunction with clindamycin and intravenous immunoglobulins enhances the treatment success rate.

ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVES: To study the efficacy of different drug treatment regimens in children with streptococcal toxic shock syndrome (STSS). METHODS: Clinical data of children diagnosed with STSS confirmed by bacterial culture and treated in Hunan Children's Hospital and Chenzhou First People's Hospital from January 2009 to April 2023 were retrospectively collected. The efficacy of different drug treatment regimens was analyzed. The children were divided into four groups based on the treatment regimens: standard group (regimens containing penicillin), Group A (carbapenem + glycopeptides/linezolid), Group B (carbapenems, broad-spectrum antibiotics, glycopeptides/linezolid used alone or in combination, excluding the regimens in Group A), and Group C (macrolides/not receiving antimicrobial drugs). RESULTS: A total of 32 cases of STSS were included. Antimicrobial susceptibility testing showed that all strains were sensitive to beta-lactam antibiotics such as ampicillin and vancomycin, while resistant to clindamycin, erythromycin, and tetracycline. There was a statistically significant difference in the efficacy rate among the four groups (P<0.05). The standard group exhibited the highest efficacy rate (100%), while the efficacy rates for Group A, Group B, and Group C were 40%, 40%, and 0%, respectively. CONCLUSIONS: The use of antimicrobial regimens containing penicillin can improve the therapeutic efficacy of STSS in children.

ABSTRACT

Cyclopropane-fused ring scaffolds represent one of the most appealing structural motifs in organic chemistry due to their wide presence in bioactive molecules and versatility in organic synthesis. These skeletons are typically prepared from olefinic diazo compounds via transition-metal catalysed intramolecular carbenoid insertion, which suffers from prefunctionalization of starting materials and limited substrate scope. Herein, we disclose a practical copper-mediated direct intramolecular cyclopropanation of distal olefinic acetate to synthesize cyclopropane-fused γ-lactones and lactams. This cascade reaction is postulated to proceed through a hydrogen atom transfer event induced radical cyclization and copper-mediated cyclopropanation sequence. The protocol features high atom- and step-economy, excellent diastereoselectivity, broad tolerance of functional groups, and operational simplicity.

ABSTRACT

To investigate changes in the yield and physiological characteristics of indica hybrid rice varieties sown on different dates, we evaluated appropriate hybrid rice varieties and their optimal sowing dates in the hilly areas of Sichuan. Three popular indica rice varieties were used as experimental materials, and five sowing dates were set uniformly locally [16 May (SD1), 23 May (SD2), 30 May (SD3), 6 June (SD4), and 13 June (SD5)] to investigate differences in the yield characteristics, growth period, and dry matter accumulation. The results showed that, over the two years, the sowing-to-heading period and overall growth period of the three varieties shortened as the sowing date was delayed, and the difference in yield between the SD1 and SD2 treatments was not significant, owing to higher material accumulation after flowering and higher assimilative material transport capacity. These varieties are both photosensitive and tolerant to low temperatures. Among the three varieties tested, the Huangyouyuehesimiao (V3) cultivar had the highest yield, with 10.75 t ha-1 under the SD2 treatment. The impact of shifting the sowing date on yield components varied. Delaying the sowing date increased and then decreased the number of effective panicles, and the number of grains per panicle and the seed setting rate decreased by differing degrees. In summary, a high yield of indica hybrid rice can be maintained by sowing between 16 and 23 May each year in the study area. It indicated that indica hybrid rice in the hilly rice-producing region of Sichuan is highly adaptable to different sowing dates.

ABSTRACT

Dimensionality plays a vital role at the nanoscale in tuning the electronical and photophysical properties and surface features of perovskite nanocrystals. Here, 3D and 1D all-inorganic CsPbBr3 nanocrystals were chosen as model materials to systemically reveal the dimensionality-dependent effect in photocatalytic H2 evolution. In terms of facilitating photoinduced electron-hole pair separation and charge transfer, as well as inducing proton reduction potential with the presence of fewer Br vacancies, 1D CsPbBr3 nanorods gave about a 5-fold improvement for solar H2 evolution.

BACKGROUND: The role and mechanism of centromeric protein N (CENP-N), which has been associated with the development of various cancer types, are yet unclear in stomach adenocarcinoma (STAD). METHODS: Data from the Cancer Genome Atlas and Genotype-Tissue Expression were used to determine whether CENP-N expression was altered in STAD tumors compared to normal tissues. Xiantao was used to perform Gene Ontology (GO) and Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes(KEGG) enrichment analysis on CENP-N. The relationship between CENP-N expression and immune cell infiltration was assessed using TCGA database. The expression of CENP-N in STAD and surrounding tissues was confirmed using immunohistochemical staining and the correlation between CENP-N expression and clinicopathological characteristics was examined. The effects of CENP-N knockdown by siRNA on proliferation were measured by CCK-8 and EdU assays in AGS cells. Following siRNA transfection, flow cytometry was performed to evaluate cell cycle and apoptotic alterations in AGS cells. The effect of CENP-N knockdown on the expression level of related proteins was detected by Westren blot. RESULTS: CENP-N was highly expressed in STAD tissues, which was confirmed by our immunohistochemistry results. The degree of invasion, TNM stage, and lymph node metastases were all strongly associated with CENP-N expression. CENP-N was essential for the cell cycle, DNA replication, chromosomal segregation, and nuclear division; there was a positive correlation between CENP-N expression and infiltrating Th2 and NK CD56dim cells and a negative correlation between CENP-N expression and mast, pDC, NK, and B cell infiltration. When CENP-N expression in AGS cells was knocked down, cell proliferation dramatically reduced (p < .05) and the percentage of cells in the S and G2-M phases decreased significantly (p < .05). Silencing CENP-N significantly promoted the apoptosis of AGS cells (p < .05). Mechanistic investigations showed that silencing CENP-N expression may inhibit STAD proliferation through the Cyclin E1 and promote STAD apoptosis through the Bcl-2/Bax. CONCLUSION: According to our data, CENP-N acts as an oncogene in STAD and may be a viable therapeutic target.

ABSTRACT

Colorectal cancer (CRC) is a common gastrointestinal tumour with increasing incidence worldwide. However, the underlying molecular mechanism of CRC proliferation is not completely clear. Diversin,as an ankyrin repeat-containing protein, is upregulated in various solid tumours and accelerates cancer progression by promoting cell proliferation and increasing S phase fraction of cells. In this study, 71 CRC samples and corresponding adjacent tissue samples were included. The expression of diversin in tissues was verified via immunohistochemical analysis. The MTS assay and flow cytometry (FCM) was used to measure cell proliferation and cell cycle. Results of immunohistochemical analysis revealed that diversin was highly expressed in human CRC tissues and was significantly associated with tumour differentiation, clinical stage and lymph node metastasis. The analysis based on the CRC data from The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA) database showed that a high expression of diversin correlated with the poor prognosis of CRC. Results of the MTS assay indicated that the overexpression of diversin promoted the proliferation of CRC cells, while its downregulation had an inhibitory effect on CRC cell proliferation. FCM analysises presented that diversin increased the flux of the CRC cell cycle from G1 to S and regulated cycle-related proteins, namely, P21, P27, cyclin E, CDK2, cyclin D and CDK4. The results suggest that diversin contributes to CRC proliferation that involves the distribution of the cell cycle. In CRC tissues, the expression of diversin has closely related to the prognosis. The higher the expression levels of diversin, the worse the prognosis. In vitro, diversin could increase the proliferative ability of CRC cells through the G1-S checkpoint and JNK signalling pathway, confirming that diversin contributes to CRC development.

ABSTRACT

We disclosed a visible-light-induced alkylarylation reaction of unactivated alkenes via a metal-free radical addition/aryl translocation cascade sequence. Distal olefinic sulfonate was designed as a unique molecular scaffold allowing for a domino process to synthesize valuable alkylarylated alcohols in good yields with excellent diastereoselectivity, featuring mild reaction conditions, broad substrate scope, and excellent functional group tolerance. The mechanism investigation suggests that a visible-light-induced radical chain process dominates the cascade transformation.

OBJECTIVE: To investigate the effectiveness of slope-reducing tibial osteotomy and anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) revision in the treatment of patients with primary ACL reconstruction failure and abnormally increased posterior tibial slope (PTS). METHODS: The clinical data of 9 patients with primary ACL reconstruction failure and abnormally increased PTS (≥17°) who met the selection criteria between January 2018 and January 2020 were retrospectively analyzed. There were 8 males and 1 female; the age ranged from 21 to 42 years, with a median age of 30 years. Lachman test was positive in 9 patients. Pivot-shift test was negative in 6 cases, degree Ⅰ positive in 2 cases, and degree Ⅱ positive in 1 case. The PTS was (17.78±1.09)° and the anterior tibial translation (ATT) was (11.58±1.47) mm. The International Knee Documentation Committee (IKDC) score was 51.0±3.8, Lysholm score was 49.7±4.6, and Tegner score was 3.7±0.7. The time from primary reconstruction to revision was 12-33 months, with an average of 19.6 months. Slope-reducing tibial osteotomy and ACL revision were performed. The improvement of knee function was evaluated by IKDC score, Lysholm score, and Tegner score; Lachman test and Pivot-shift test were used to evaluate the stability of knee joint. PTS and ATT were measured to observe the morphological changes of knee joint. RESULTS: All the incisions healed by first intention, and there was no complication such as incision infection, fat liquefaction, necrosis, deep vein thrombosis of lower extremities, and neurovascular injury. All 9 patients were followed up 12-36 months, with an average of 25.8 months. At last follow-up, Lachman test and pivot-shift test were negative. IKDC score was 85.0±4.0, Lysholm score was 87.7±2.8, Tegner score was 6.8±0.7, PTS reduced to (9.89±0.60)°, and ATT shortened to (0.91±0.29) mm, which were significantly improved when compared with those before operation ( P<0.05). CONCLUSION: Slope-reducing tibial osteotomy and ACL revision in the treatment of patients with primary ACL reconstruction failure and abnormally increased PTS has a satisfactory short-term effectiveness. It can improve the stability of knee joint and maintain the normal shape of knee joint.

ABSTRACT

Glutathione (GSH) plays crucial roles in various physiological and pathological processes. The fluctuation of the GSH level is closely associated with a variety of diseases and cellular functions. Hence, it is important to real-time monitor the fluctuation of GSH in living cells. In this work, we presented a rhodol-hybridized hemicyanine fluorophore (RdH) as a selective, rapid-response, ratiometric, and reversible fluorescent probe for intracellular GSH (t1/2 = 89 ms, Kd = 1.42 mM). The imaging assays in living cells revealed that RdH could be used to real-time monitor GSH dynamics in A549 cells under a laser scanning confocal microscope by ratiometric fluorescence changes.

ABSTRACT

Osteoarthritis (OA) is a progressive and degenerative joint disorder that is highly prevalent worldwide and for which there is currently no effective medical therapy. Artesunate (ART), a natural compound used to treat malaria, possesses diverse biological properties, including the regulation of inflammation and apoptosis in various cells; however, its role in OA remains unclear. The aim of the present study was to investigate the effects of ART on interleukin (IL)­1ß­induced chondrocyte­like ATDC5 cells and in an OA mouse model. The results revealed that ART dose­dependently relieved the inhibitory effect of IL­1ß on cell viability. Moreover, ART significantly reduced the overexpression of matrix metalloproteinase (MMP)­3, MMP­13, a disintegrin and metalloproteinase with thrombospondin motifs­5 and cyclooxygenase­2 at both the gene and protein levels in chondrocyte­like ATDC5 cells stimulated by IL­1ß. Furthermore, ART decreased the expression of pro­apoptotic Bax, cleaved caspase­3 and cleaved caspase­7 in a dose­dependent manner, and increased the expression of the anti­apoptotic factor Bcl­2. These changes were mediated by the inhibitory effect of ART on the nuclear factor­κB signaling pathway, defined as repression of the phosphorylation of IκBα and p65, and improved redistribution of p65. Additionally, ART blocked the advancement of the calcified cartilage zone and the loss of proteoglycan, and lowered histological scoring of OA in a mouse model. Taken together, these results indicate that ART may be of value as a therapeutic agent for OA.

Osteoarthritis (OA) is a common and debilitating joint disease worldwide without interventions available to reverse its progression. Artesunate (ART), an anti-malaria agent, possesses diverse biological activities, including the inhibition of osteoclastogenesis and angiogenesis in various cells, but its role in subchondral bone during OA progression is not known. Here, we explored the curative effects of ART on the pathogenesis of OA in anterior cruciate ligament transection (ACLT) mice models. We found that ART attenuated articular cartilage degeneration, defined by lowered histologic scoring of OA and retarded calcification of the cartilage zone. Moreover, ART improved the expression of lubricin and aggrecan and reduced the expression of collagen X (Col X) and matrix metalloproteinase-13 (MMP-13). In parallel, ART normalized abnormal subchondral bone remodeling by maintaining bone volume fraction (BV/TV) and subchondral bone plate thickness (SBP Th) and reducing trabecular pattern factor (Tb.pf) compared to the vehicle-treated mice. Our results indicated that ART suppressed osteoclastic bone resorption through regulating RANKL-OPG system, restored coupled bone remodeling by indirectly inhibiting TGF-ß/Smad2/3 signaling. Additionally, ART abrogated CD31hiEmcnhi vessel formation via downregulating the expression of vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) and angiogenin-1 in subchondral bone. In conclusion, ART attenuates ACLT-induced OA by blocking bone resorption and CD31hiEmcnhi vessel formation in subchondral bone, indicating that this may be a new therapeutic alternative for OA.

BACKGROUND: The previous studies have demonstrated that the polysaccharide isolated from Tarphochlamys affinis (PTA) exhibits anti-tumor effect on S180 tumor-bearing mice and protective effects against hepatic injury. METHODS: In this study, we investigated the anti-tumor activity and possible underlying mechanism of PTA on liver cancer using a murine H22 hepatocarcinoma model. RESULTS: PTA was capable of repressing transplanted H22 solid hepatic tumor cell growth in vivo. The relative weight of immune organs (spleen and thymus) and lymphocyte proliferation induced by ConA or LPS were improved after PTA treatment. Furthermore, treatment with PTA promoted immune-stimulating serum cytokine secretion in H22 tumor-bearing mice. Additionally, the percentage of CD4+ T lymphocytes, CD8+ T lymphocytes and NK cells was increased in tumor-bearing mice following PTA administration. In tumor tissue, PTA significantly up-regulated the expression of Bax and p53 proteins and down-regulated the expression of Bcl-2 protein. In addition, at the therapeutic dose, PTA displayed very few toxic effects to major organs, such as the liver and kidney, in tumor-bearing mice. CONCLUSION: In H22 tumor-bearing mice, PTA exhibited prominent anti-tumor activity in vivo. The possible mechanism of action might be related to enhanced host immune system function and induction of H22 tumor cell apoptosis.

OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the effectiveness of arthroscopically assisted treatment of posterior cruciate ligament (PCL) tibial eminence avulsion fractures associated with meniscus posterior horn tear. METHODS: Between January 2012 and December 2014, 21 patients with PCL avulsion fracture and meniscus posterior horn tear were arthroscopically treated with polyester suture and hollow screw fixation. There were 10 males (10 knees) and 11 females (11 knees), aged 14-53 years (mean, 35.7 years). The causes included sport injury in 11 cases, traffic accident injury in 9 cases, and daily life injury in 1 case. Based on the anteroposterior and lateral X-ray films, CT, and MRI, PCL avulsion fractures were diagnosed, and 2 cases had anterior cruciate ligament avulsion fractures. The results of posterior drawer test were positive in all patients, with no end point in 14 cases and with soft end point in 7 cases; all patients showed tibial sink. The preoperative International Knee Documentation Committee (IKDC) score and Lysholm score were 46.5±5.5 and 43.3±4.5 respectively. The time from injury to operation was 6-22 days (mean, 10 days). RESULTS: The operation time was 60-100 minutes (mean, 75 minutes). Primary healing of incision was obtained in all patients, without no complication of infection. The mean follow-up time was 27.4 months (range, 12-46 months). The results of posterior drawer test were negative in 19 cases, and positive in 2 cases (having hard end point). Tibial sink disappeared. At last follow-up, X-ray film showed good healing of fracture, and no displacement. The patients had no locking knee, snapping or tenderness of joint space, and the Mcmurray sign was negative; the IKDC score and Lysholm score were significantly improved to 92.0±2.5 and 92.7±2.6 respectively (t=-39.903, P=0.000; t=-43.242, P=0.000). The range of motion was normal in 20 patients (0-130°) except 1 patient having limited flexion (0-80°), whose range of motion returned to 0-120° after release. CONCLUSIONS: The arthroscopic fixation technique has satisfactory results for the reduction and fixation of PCL avulsion fracture associated with meniscus posterior horn tear because of easy operation, firm fixation, and economic price.

ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVE: To study the effect of the femoral tunnel position on the knee function recovery after medial patellofemoral ligament (MPFL) reconstruction. METHODS: A retrospective analysis was made on the clinical date of 43 cases (43 knees) of recurrent patellar dislocation undergoing MPFL reconstruction and patellofemoral lateral retinaculum lysis between August 2013 and March 2014. There were 12 males and 31 females, aged 19.4 years on average (range, 9-35 years). All patients had trauma history and recurrent dislocations. The results of apprehesion test and J syndrom were positive. The patellar tilt test showed patellofemoral lateral retinaculum was tension. The effectiveness was evaluated using Lysholm knee functional score after operation. The distance from the center of the femoral tunnel to the femoral isometric point was measured on CT three dimensional reconstruction image. Whether the femoral tunnel position was isometric was evaluated. The correlation was analyzed between the distance from the center of the femoral tunnel to the femoral isometric point and Lysholm score. RESULTS: Primary healing of incision was obtained in all patients. The patients were followed up 13-18 months (mean, 15 months). No patellar dislocation or subluxation occurred. The result of apprehensive test was negative. At last follow-up, the average Lysholm score was 93.8 (range, 83- 100). The average distance from the center of the femoral tunnel to the femoral isometric point was 5.61 mm (range, 2-16 mm). The femoral tunnel position was isometric in 30 cases (69.8%) and non-isometric in 13 cases (30.2%). The distance from the center of the femoral tunnel to the femoral isometric point was negatively correlated with postoperative Lysholm score (r = -0.851, P = 0.000). The postoperative Lysholm score was 95.7 ± 2.3 in patients with isometric tunnel and was 89.4 ± 3.5 in patients with non-isometric tunnel, showing significant difference (t = 6.951, P = 0.000). CONCLUSION: For patellofemoral joint instability, preparing the femoral isometric tunnel can establish a good foundation for the recovery of the knee function in MPFL reconstruction.

ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the clinical results of arthroscopic treatment of anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) tibial eminence avulsion fractures in adolescents with epiphyseal unclosure. METHODS: Between January 2011 and October 2013, 35 knees with ACL tibial eminence avulsion fractures (35 patients with epiphyseal unclosure) were arthroscopically treated with suture fixation. There were 25 males and 10 females, aged 8-16 years (mean, 14.7 years). The causes included sports injury in 24 cases, traffic accident injury in 9 cases, and daily life injury in 2 cases. According to Meyers-McKeever classification criteria, there were 27 cases of type II and 8 cases of type III. Five cases had meniscus injury. The preoperative the International Knee Documentation Committee (IKDC) score was 48.7 ± 3.2, and Lysholm score was 51.2 ± 4.5. The time from injury to operation was 2-16 days (mean, 5 days). RESULTS: Primary healing of incision was obtained in all patients. The mean follow-up time was 22.4 months (range, 12-32 months). Anatomical reduction was achieved in 28 cases and satisfactory reduction in 7 cases. X-ray films showed all fractures healing at last follow-up. There was no limb shortening deformity, varus knee, or valgus knee. Lachman test results were all negative. The other knees had normal range of motion except 1 knee with limited flexion, whose range of motion returned to 0-120° after treatment. At last follow-up, the IKDC score was significantly improved to 93.2 ± 4.1 (t = -53.442, P = 0.000), and the Lysholm score was significantly increased to 96.2 ± 2.5 (t = -56.242, P = 0.000). CONCLUSION: The arthroscopic fixation technique has satisfactory results for the reduction and fixation of ACL tibial eminence avulsion fracture in the adolescents with epiphyseal unclosure because of little trauma and quick recovery.

ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVE: To study the influence of early high calcium intake to adulthood obesity through detection the expression of uncoupling protein 2 ( UCP2) mRNA in muscle by a reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction ( RT-PCR) technique. METHODS: 120 male Wistar rats were divided randomly into normal control group, high dose calcium group, medium dose calcium group and low doses calcium group, with basic diet and high calcium diet for 4 weeks. After intervention, blood fat was compared. Subsequently, all rats were fed basic diet for 3 weeks and blood fat was compared. Then, normal feed rats were randomly divided into normal controls and obesity induction group. Obesity induction group, high dose calcium group, medium dose calcium group and low doses calcium group were fed high-fat food. After 8 weeks, RT-PCR was used for analysis After obesity induction, weight the expression of UCP2 mRNA in muscle. RESULTS: growth of three high calcium groups were below obesity induction group, weight growth of low doses and high doses of high calcium groups were no difference with normal control group. Serum triglyceride levels of high dose high calcium group were significantly lower than obesity induction group and no difference with normal control group. Expression level of UCP2 mRNA of obesity induction group and high doses of high calcium group were obviously lower than normal controls, low dose and medium dose high calcium group, medium dose high calcium group' expression was significantly higher than normal control group. CONCLUSION: In rats' early life high calcium intake can continue to affect adulthood obesity induced by high-fat feed, increase expression level of UCP2 mRNA, improve the disorder of blood fat metabolism.

ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVE: To explore the efficacy of arthroscopic repair of medial patellofemoral ligament (MPFL) for adolescents with epiphyseal non-closure by allogenic tendon in the treatment of instable patellofemoral joint. METHODS: There were a total of 38 cases including 61 knees with patellofemoral instability from June 2008 to January 2010 at our department. They were diagnosed according to the history of illness, apprehension test and tangential position radiograph in patellofemoral joint. RESULTS: A total of 33 patients with 52 knees were followed up for an average of 12 months (range: 8 - 19). All apprehension tests were negative. No recurrent displacement was found. The pre-operative Lysholm score of 75.5 ± 4.7 increased to 91.1 ± 5.7. There was significant difference. CONCLUSION: Arthroscope-assisted allograft reconstruction of medial patellofemoral ligament tendon is both mini-invasive and reliable for the treatment of epiphyseal non-closure adolescents with traumatic patellofemoral instability.
