ABSTRACT

Non-alcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH) has no approved therapy. The farnesoid X nuclear receptor (FXR) agonist obeticholic acid (OCA) has shown promise as a drug for NASH, but can adversely affect plasma lipid profiles. Therefore, the present study aimed to investigate the effects and underlying mechanisms of OCA in combination with simvastatin (SIM) in a high-fat diet (HFD)-induced model of NASH. C57BL/6J mice were fed with a HFD for 16 weeks to establish the NASH model. The mice were randomly divided into the following five groups: HFD, HFD + OCA, HFD + SIM, HFD + OCA + SIM and control. After 16 weeks, the mice were sacrificed under anesthesia. The ratios of liver weight to body weight (Lw/Bw) and of abdominal adipose tissue weight to body weight were calculated. Serum levels of alanine aminotransferase (ALT), aspartate aminotransferase (AST), total cholesterol, triglycerides and low-density lipoprotein were measured. Liver sections were stained with hematoxylin and eosin. The protein levels of FXR, small heterodimeric partner (SHP) and cytochrome P450 family 7 subfamily A member 1 (CYP7A1) in the liver were detected by western blotting, while the mRNA levels of FXR, SHP, CYP7A1, bile salt export pump, interleukin-6 (IL-6), tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α), sterol regulatory element binding protein-1 (SREBP1) and fatty acid synthase (FASN) were examined by reverse transcription-quantitative polymerase chain reaction. The administration of OCA with or without SIM reduced the liver inflammation score compared with those of the HFD and HFD + SIM groups, with no significant difference between the HFD + OCA and HFD + OCA + SIM groups. The steatosis score followed similar trends to the inflammation score. In HFD-fed mice, OCA combined with SIM prevented body weight gain compared with that in HFD and HFD + OCA groups, and reduced the Lw/Bw ratio compared with that in the HFD and HFD + SIM groups. In addition to preventing HFD-induced increases of ALT and AST, the combination of OCA and SIM reduced the mRNA levels of IL-6, TNF-α, SREBP1 and FASN. On the basis of these results, it may be concluded that the strategy of combining OCA with SIM represents an effective pharmacotherapy for NASH.

OBJECTIVE: To investigate the expression of miR-195 and its target gene Bcl-2 in intervertebral disc degeneration (IVDD) and its effect on nucleus pulposus (NP) cell apoptosis. METHODS: The expressions of miR-195 and Bcl-2 in NP tissues of IVDD patients were quantified by qRT-PCR and western blotting, respectively. NP cells were divided into blank group, TNF-α group, TNF-α + miR-NC group, TNF-α + siBcl-2 group, and TNF-α + miR-195 inhibitors + siBcl-2 group. Cell proliferation was detected by MTT assay, cell apoptosis evaluated by flow cytometry, and mitochondrial membrane potential (MMP) tested by JC-1 staining. Moreover, the function of miR-195 on IVDD in vivo was investigated using a puncture-induced IVDD rat model. RESULTS: IVDD patients had significantly increased miR-195 expression and decreased Bcl-2 protein expression in NP tissues. The expression of miR-195 was negatively correlated with the expression of Bcl-2 in IVDD patients. Dual-luciferase reporter gene assay indicated that Bcl-2 was a target gene of miR-195. In comparison with blank group, TNF-α group showed decreased cell proliferation and MMP, increased cell apoptosis, upregulated expression of miR-195, Bax, and cleaved caspase 3, and downregulated Bcl-2 protein, while these changes were attenuated by miR-195 inhibitors. Additionally, siBcl-2 can reverse the protective effect of miR-195 inhibitors on TNF-α-induced NP cells. Besides, inhibition of miR-195 alleviated IVDD degeneration and NP cell apoptosis in the rat model. CONCLUSION: MiR-195 was significantly upregulated in NP tissues of IVDD patients, and inhibition of miR-195 could protect human NP cells from TNF-α-induced apoptosis via upregulation of Bcl-2.

ABSTRACT

Hepatic fibrosis is a crucial pathological process involved in the development of chronic hepatitis C (CHC) and may progress to liver cirrhosis and hepatocellular carcinoma. Activated peripheral blood monocytes and intrahepatic macrophages further promote hepatic fibrogenesis by releasing proinflammatory and profibrogenic cytokines. The present study aimed to investigate the role of peripheral CD14+ monocytes and intrahepatic CD163+ macrophages in hepatitis C virus (HCV)-associated liver fibrosis and clarify whether serum soluble CD163 (sCD163) may serve as a fibrosis marker in patients with CHC. A total of 87 patients with CHC and 20 healthy controls were recruited. Serum sCD163 levels were measured by ELISA. Frequencies of peripheral CD14+ monocytes and inflammatory cytokines expressed by CD14+ monocytes were analyzed by flow cytometry. The degree of fibrosis in human liver biopsies was graded using the Metavir scoring system and patients were stratified into two groups based on those results (F<2 vs. F≥2). Hepatic expression of CD163 was examined by immunohistochemical staining. The diagnostic values of sCD163, aspartate aminotransferase to platelet ratio index (APRI), fibrosis 4 score (FIB-4) and the aspartate aminotransferase to alanine aminotransferase ratio (AAR) in significant fibrosis (F≥2) were evaluated and compared using receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curves. The results indicated that the serum sCD163 levels and the frequency of CD14+ monocytes were significantly higher in the patients than that in the controls and positively correlated with liver fibrosis. The level of serum sCD163 was consistent with hepatic CD163 expression in the liver sections from patients. The frequencies of interleukin (IL)-8- and tumor necrosis factor-α-expressing monocytes were increased and that of IL-10-expressing monocytes was decreased in the patients. The area under the ROC curve (AUROC) for sCD163, APRI, FIB-4 and AAR was 0.876, 0.785, 0.825 and 0.488, respectively, and the AUROC for sCD163 was significantly higher than those for APRI and AAR. In conclusion, sCD163 may serve as a novel marker for assessing the degree of liver fibrosis in HCV-infected patients.

In this study, PBDTTT-E (based on benzo [1,2-b:4,5-b'] dithiophene (BDT) and thieno [3,4-b] thiophene (TT)) as a donor and fullerene derivative PC71BM (phenyl-C71-butyric acid methyl ester) as an acceptor with and without 1,8-diiodooctane (DIO)-treated copolymer solar cells were investigated. The device based on PBDTTT-E with treated DIO showed remarkably high current density (J sc), fill factor (FF) and similar open-circuit voltage (V oc). Charge carrier lifetime (τ n ), density (n) and non-geminate recombination rate (k rec) in the photoactive layers were measured by employing transient photovoltage (TPV) and charge extraction (CE) techniques. Based on k rec and n, J-V curves were reconstructed. The DIO optimized the morphology of the active layer and its PBDTTT-E:PC71BM interfaces were increased. Therefore, compared to the device without the treated DIO, the device with the treated DIO showed larger electron mobility, longer carrier lifetime (τ n ) and lower non-geminate recombination rate (k rec), which enhances the carrier transport and restrains the non-geminate recombination, realizing the higher J sc and FF. In addition, that the DIO-treated devices can weaken the role of other factors (such as field dependent geminate recombination) in limiting device performance. The results provide some hints of improved device performance upon DIO as an additive in the D-A type polymer/fullerene solar cells.

RATIONALE: Rhizoma coptidis extract and its alkaloids show various pharmacological activities, but its metabolic profile in human plasma has not been thoroughly investigated. In the present research, the metabolism of Rhizoma coptidis at a clinical dose (5 g/60 kg/day) was systematically analyzed to determine its biotransformation processes in human plasma. METHODS: In this research, the metabolites of Rhizoma coptidis in human plasma after oral administration of Rhizoma coptidis extract at a clinical dose were investigated using ultra-high-performance liquid chromatography (UHPLC) coupled with high-resolution LTQ-Orbitrap mass spectrometry. The structural elucidation of the constituents was confirmed by comparing their retention times (tR ) and MSn fragments with those of standards and literature reports. RESULTS: In total, two prototypes and twelve metabolites were detected in human plasma. The two prototypes were confidently identified using reference standards. Of the compounds detected, M7 (berberrubinen-9-O-glucuronide) was the most abundant based on its peak area, which indicates that this compound might be a pharmacokinetic marker for Rhizoma coptidis alkaloids in humans. Based on the metabolites detected in human plasma, a possible metabolic pathway for Rhizoma coptidis in vivo was proposed. CONCLUSIONS: The results indicated that the alkaloids in Rhizoma coptidis were extensively biotransformed in vivo mainly via conjugation with glucuronic acid (GluA) or sulfuric acid (SulA) to form phase II metabolites, and the GluA metabolites are likely the dominant form in human plasma. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first in vivo evaluation of the metabolic profile of the whole Rhizoma coptidis extract in human plasma, which is essential for determining the chemicals responsible for the pharmacological activities of Rhizoma coptidis in vivo. Moreover, it would be beneficial for us to further systematically study the pharmacokinetic behavior of Rhizoma coptidis in humans.

ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVE(S): Long noncoding RNAs (lncRNAs)-activated by transforming growth factor beta (lncRNA-ATB) is known to be involved in the invasion of hepatocellular carcinoma by regulating target genes of miR-200a. However, the role and molecular mechanisms of lncRNA-ATB/miR-200a in HCV-related liver fibrosis remains unclear. In this study, we examined the expression of lncRNA-ATB/miR-200a, and their target gene ß-Catenin in liver tissues of HCV patients and hepatic stellate cells (HSCs) to elucidate the possible role of lncRNA-ATB/miR-200a axis in HSC activation and development of liver fibrosis. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Liver tissues were obtained by biopsy or surgery from eighteen HCV patients with severe liver fibrosis and six healthy subjects (control). Conditioned media (CM) from cultured HepG2-CORE cells (HepG2 cells stably expressing HCV core protein) were used to treat LX-2 cells. The binding sites between lncRNA-ATB/miR-200a and ß-catenin were predicted and then verified by a dual luciferase reporter assay. The effect of lncRNA-ATB/miR-200a/ß-catenin on HSC activation was assessed by examining the expression of alpha-smooth muscle actin (α-SMA) and collagen type 1 alpha 1 (Col1A1) in HSCs. Further, the regulatory role of lncRNA-ATB on HSC activation and miR-200a/ß-catenin expression was assessed by using siRNA-mediated knockdown of lncRNA-ATB. RESULTS: LncRNA-ATB was up-regulated in fibrotic liver tissues and activated LX-2 cells treated with CM from HepG2-CORE cells. Dual luciferase reporter assays confirmed that lncRNA-ATB contained common binding sites for miR-200a and ß-catenin. Decreased expression of miR-200a and increased expression of ß-catenin were observed in liver tissues of patients with HCV-related hepatic fibrosis and activated HSCs. Knockdown of lncRNA-ATB could down-regulate ß-catenin expression by up-regulating the endogenous miR-200a and suppress the activation of LX-2 cells. CONCLUSION: LncRNA-ATB/miR-200a/ß-catenin regulatory axis likely contributed to the development of liver fibrosis in HCV patients. Knockdown of lncRNA-ATB might be a novel therapeutic target for HCV-related liver fibrosis.

ABSTRACT

BACKGROUND: All of the clinical drugs for herpesvirus infections exhibit high toxicity and suffer from significant drug-resistantance. There is a great need for the development of new, effective, and safe anti-herpesvirus agents with different mechanisms of action. METHODS: A series of novel 5-(benzylthio)-1H-1,2,3-triazole-4-carboxamides were efficiently synthesized and EC50 values against human cytomegalovirus (HCMV), varicella-zoster virus (VZV) and herpes simplex virus (HSV) were evaluated in vitro. RESULTS: Some compounds possess antiviral activity. Compound 7f exhibits promising inhibitory activity against both HCMV and VZV. Our results also indicate that these derivatives are independent of the viral thymidine kinase (TK) for activation, which is indispensable for current drugs. CONCLUSION: 4,5-Bissubstiuted triazoles are active against herpesviruses and the nature and the position of substituents in the benzene ring remarkably affect their activity, such as bromo, cyano and cyanovynil substituents. Future studies should be undertaken to investigate the mechanism of action of these compounds.

ABSTRACT

A series of novel trisubstituted 1,2,3-triazole purine nucleosides were efficiently synthesized via Huisgen 1,3-dipolar cycloaddition in good yields. Bioactivity against cytomegalovirus (CMV) and varicella-zoster virus (VZV) in human embryonic lung cell cultures was evaluated and all compounds show low antiviral activity.

ABSTRACT

The residual content of sulfur dioxide is frequently regarded as the exclusive indicator in the safety evaluation of sulfur-fumigated edible herbs. To examine the feasibility of such assessment criteria, here the variations in residual sulfur dioxide content during sulfur-fumigation and the potential mechanisms involved were investigated, using Angelicae Sinensis Radix (ASR) as a model herb. The residual sulfur dioxide content and ten major bioactive components in sulfur-fumigated ASR samples were dynamically examined at 13 successive time points within 72 h sulfur-fumigation. The relationship between the content variation tendency of sulfur dioxide and the ten chemicals was discussed. The results suggested that sulfur dioxide-involved chemical transformation of the original components in ASR might cause large consumption of residual sulfur dioxide during sulfur-fumigation. It implies that without considering the induced chemical transformation of bioactive components, the residual sulfur dioxide content alone might be inadequate to comprehensively evaluate the safety of sulfur-fumigated herbs.

ABSTRACT

Objective To evaluate whether gamma-glutamyl transpeptidase to platelet ratio index (GPRI) can diagnose the extent of liver fibrosis in Chinese patients with chronic hepatitis B (CHB) infection. Methods This prospective observational study used liver biopsy results as the gold standard to evaluate the ability of GPRI to predict hepatic fibrosis compared with two other markers, the aspartate aminotransferase (AST) to platelet ratio index (APRI) and fibrosis-4 score (FIB-4). The clinical and demographic factors that affected GPRI, independent of liver fibrosis, were assessed using multivariate linear regression analyses. Results This study enrolled 312 patients with CHB. GPRI had a significantly positive correlation with liver fibrosis stage and the correlation coefficient was higher than that for APRI and FIB-4. The areas under the receiver operating curves for GPRI for significant fibrosis, bridging fibrosis, and cirrhosis were 0.728, 0.836, and 0.842, respectively. Of the three indices, GPRI had the highest diagnostic accuracy for bridging fibrosis and cirrhosis. Age, elevated AST and elevated total bilirubin levels were independent determinants of increased GPRI. Conclusion GPRI was a more reliable laboratory marker than APRI and FIB-4 for predicting the stage of liver fibrosis in Chinese patients with CHB.

ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVE: To investigate the effects of Mongolian new medicine-Ⅱ oncardiac functions, myocardial pathology, endoplasmic reticulum stress and myocardial apoptosis in congestive heart failure with dilated cardiomyopathy in rats. METHODS: Thirty SD male rats were randomly dividedinto 3 groups(n=10):control group, dilated cardiomyopathy group (intraperitoneal injection of adriamycin 2 mg/kg body weight, 1 time/week, 4 weeks after treatment were observed for 4 weeks), Mongolian new medicine-Ⅱ group(intraperitoneal injection of adriamycin 2 mg/kg body weight, 1 time/week, 4 weeks after treatment, 30 mg/(kg·d)was given Mongolian new medicine-Ⅱ orally for 4 weeks). During the experiment, general conditions of rats were observed. After 8 weeks, these rats were killed after measurement of the cardiac function indexes by high frequency echocardiography. The morphological changes of myocardial tissues were observed by using HEstaining, VG staining and electron microscopic. The myocardial apoptosis was detected by TUNEL method and the expressions of endoplasmic reticulum chaperone GRP78, GRP94, pro-apoptotic factor CHOP and caspase-3 were monitored by Western blot. RESULTS: ① Compared with dilated cardiomyopathy group, the cardiac systolic and diastolic functions were significantly increased in Mongolian new medicine-Ⅱ group, which were reflected in that left ventricular contraction diameter(LVIDs) and left ventricular end-diastolic diameter(LVIDd) were decreased, and left ventricular shortening fraction(FS) and ejection fraction(EF) were increased. The hemodynamic parameters of rats were improved significantly in Mongolian new medicine-Ⅱ group. ②Compared with dilated cardiomyopathy group, the myocardial lesion score was decreased and fibrosis of tissue space was relieved in Mongolian new medicine-Ⅱ group. ③Compared with dilated cardiomyopathy group, the apoptosis of myocardial cells was decreased. ④The expressions of endoplasmic reticulum chaperone GRP78, GRP94, pro-apoptotic factor chop and caspase-3 were decreased in Mongolian new medicine-Ⅱ group. CONCLUSIONS: Mongolian new medicine-Ⅱ could improve the pathologic alterations of cardiac cells and cardiac functions, decrease endoplasmic reticulum stress, the degree of fibrosis and myocardial apoptosis. The experimental results may be one of the mechanisms of treatment function of Mongolian new medicine-Ⅱ on dilated cardiomyopathy.

ABSTRACT

A variety of neurotrophic factors have been shown to repair the damaged peripheral nerve. However, in clinical practice, nerve growth factor, neurotrophin-3 and brain-derived neurotrophic factor are all peptides or proteins that may be rapidly deactivated at the focal injury site; their local effective concentration time following a single medication cannot meet the required time for spinal axons to regenerate and cross the glial scar. In this study, we produced polymer sustained-release microspheres based on the polylactic-co-glycolic acid copolymer; the microspheres at 300-µm diameter contained nerve growth factor, neurotrophin-3 and brain-derived neurotrophic factor. Six microspheres were longitudinally implanted into the sciatic nerve at the anastomosis site, serving as the experimental group; while the sciatic nerve in the control group was subjected to the end-to-end anastomosis using 10/0 suture thread. At 6 weeks after implantation, the lower limb activity, weight of triceps surae muscle, sciatic nerve conduction velocity and the maximum amplitude were obviously better in the experimental group than in the control group. Compared with the control group, more regenerating nerve fibers were observed and distributed in a dense and ordered manner with thicker myelin sheaths in the experimental group. More angiogenesis was also visible. Experimental findings indicate that polylactic-co-glycolic acid composite microspheres containing nerve growth factor, neurotrophin-3 and brain-derived neurotrophic factor can promote the restoration of sciatic nerve in rats after injury.

Hydrogen can relieve tissue-damaging oxidative stress, inflammation and apoptosis. Injection of hydrogen-rich saline is an effective method for transporting molecular hydrogen. We hypothesized that hydrogen-rich saline would promote the repair of spinal cord injury induced by Allen's method in rats. At 0.5, 1, 2, 4, 8, 12 and 24 hours after injury, then once daily for 2 weeks, 0.25 mL/kg hydrogen-rich saline was infused into the subarachnoid space through a catheter. Results at 24 hours, 48 hours, 1 week and 2 weeks after injury showed that hydrogen-rich saline markedly reduced cell death, inflammatory cell infiltration, serum malondialdehyde content, and caspase-3 immunoreactivity, elevated serum superoxide dismutase activity and calcitonin gene-related peptide immunoreactivity, and improved motor function in the hindlimb. The present study confirms that hydrogen-rich saline injected within 2 weeks of injury effectively contributes to the repair of spinal cord injury in the acute stage.

ABSTRACT

INTRODUCTION: Drug-induced liver injury is a frequent cause of hepatic dysfunction. Several drugs have been identified to cause autoimmune hepatitis (AIH). Environmental chemicals are capable of triggering a certain degree of liver injury. However, toxin induced AIH is rare. CASE PRESENTATION: We reported a woman with chronic (long-term) exposures to dichlorvos, which resulted in liver injury and cirrhosis. She was diagnosed after a second liver biopsy, which was correlated with laboratory findings. At the same time, she experienced hepatic cortical blindness during her first admission. CONCLUSIONS: Chronic (long-term) exposures to dichlorvos can lead to AIH. A detailed inquiry of medical history and liver biopsy are necessary for the diagnosis of toxin-induced AIH. Corticosteroid therapy is associated with favorable evolution.

ABSTRACT

The objective of the study is to investigate the correlation between bilirubin and uric acid (UA) concentrations and symptoms of Parkinson's disease (PD) in Chinese population. A total of 425 PD patients and 460 controls were included in the current study. Patients were diagnosed by a neurologist and assessed using the Hoehn & Yahr (H&Y) scale. Venous blood samples were collected, and bilirubin and UA concentrations were analyzed. Compared to controls, indirect bilirubin (IBIL) and UA concentrations were lower in PD patients (P IBIL = 0.015, P UA = 0.000). Serum IBIL in different age subgroups and H&Y stage subgroups were also lower compared to the control group (P IBIL = 0.000, P UA = 0.000) but were not significantly different among these subgroups. Females in the control group had significantly lower serum IBIL and UA concentrations than males (P IBIL = 0.000, P UA = 0.000) and the PD group (P IBIL = 0.027, P UA = 0.000). In early PD (patients with <2-year medical history and no treatment), serum IBIL and UA concentrations were also lower than the controls (P IBIL = 0.013, P UA = 0.000). Although IBIL concentration was positively correlated with UA concentration in controls (R IBIL = 0.229, P IBIL = 0.004), this positive association was not observed in the PD group (R IBIL = -0.032, P IBIL = 0.724). Decreased levels of serum IBIL and UA were observed in PD patients. It is possible that individuals with decreased serum bilirubin and UA concentrations lack the endogenous defense system to prevent peroxynitrite and other free radicals from damaging and destroying dopaminergic cells in the substantia nigra. Our results provide a basis for further investigation into the role of bilirubin in PD.

ABSTRACT

This article dealed with the effects of processing method and duration on the major bioactive components (sinigrin and sinapine thiocyanate) in Brassica juncea. The contents of sinigrin and sinapine thiocyanate in decoctions of raw and processed B. juncea were determined and compared by high performance liquid chromatography on a Alltima C18 column (4.6 mm x 250 mm, 5 microm) at 35 degrees C with the acetonitrile-0.1% phosphoric acid as the mobile phrase in gradient elution. The detection wavelength of sinigrin and sinapine thiocyanate was set at 227 nm and 326 nm, and the flow rate was 1.0 mL x min(-1). It was found that with the extended processing duration, the contents of sinigrin and sinapine thiocyanate first increased and then decreased: i.e., 0-2 minutes they increased gradually (for sinigrin, by 9.65% in processed products and 356. 10% in powder; for sinapine thiocyanate, by 12.82% in processed products and 3.41% in powder), and achieved their highest content at 2 min; then, decreased during the next 5 minutes (for sinigrin, by 80.35% in processed products and 82.09% in powder; for sinapine thiocyanate, by 14.29% in processed products and 17.54% in powder), suggesting that processing duration could significantly affect the contents of bioactive components in B. juncea, enzymatic hydrolysis of sinigrin when the seed is crushed in the present of moisture may be responsible for the content change. It is recommended that the slow fire should be the best processing method and the raw seed could be used directly in the water extracts related industrial production.

ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVE: To determine the role of IGF-1/PI3K pathway and investigate the molecular mechanism of Fuzhenghuayu (FZHY) therapy in a spontaneous recovery rat model of liver fibrosis. METHODS: The liver fibrosis model was induced in male Wistar rats by administering 8 weeks of twice weekly CCL4 intraperitoneal injections without (untreated model) or with once daily FZHY (treated model). Normal, untreated rats served as the control group. At weeks 4, 6 and 8 (fibrosis) and 10, 12 and 14 (spontaneous recovery) after modeling initiation, effects on protein (a-SMA, IGF-1, PI3K) and mRNA (IGF-1, PI3K) expression levels were evaluated by immunohistochemistry and RT-PCR, respectively. Serum markers of liver function (alanine aminotransferase (ALT) and aspartate aminotransferase (AST)) and liver cell damage (alkaline hydrolysis, HYP) were measured. Histology was performed to assess the degree of inflammation and fibrosis (Ishak scoring system). RESULTS: In the untreated model group, progression of liver fibrosis (weeks 4, 6 and 8) was accompanied by gradual increases in inflammation, necrosis, serum ALT and AST, and hepatic expression of a-SMA protein and IGF-1 and PI3K protein and mRNA; however, during the spontaneous recovery period (weeks 10, 12 and 14) the IGF-1 and PI3K protein and mRNA levels rapidly decreased and the HYP level, Ishak score, and a-SMA hepatic expression also decreased. The FZHY-treated model group showed significantly lower fibrosis-related up-regulation of IGF-1 and PI3K protein and mRNA expression, HYP level, Ishak score, and a-SMA hepatic expression at each time point (vs. untreated model group). CONCLUSION: The IGF-1/PI3K pathway may contribute to progression of liver fibrosis. The mechanism by which FZHY prevents liver fibrosis in a rat model may involve blocking of the IGF/PI3K pathway and inhibiting HSC activation.

These nucleoside analogues with aromatic substituted triazole rings showed significantly improved activity towards a broad range of tumor cell lines and those without arene substitutes were inactive.
