ABSTRACT

BACKGROUND: Multidrug-resistant Gram-negative bacteria, exacerbated by excessive use of antimicrobials and immunosuppressants, are a major health threat. AIM: To study the clinical efficacy and safety of colistin sulfate in the treatment of carbapenem-resistant Gram-negative bacilli-induced pneumonia, and to provide theoretical reference for clinical diagnosis and treatment. METHODS: This retrospective analysis involved 54 patients with Gram-negative bacilli pneumonia admitted to intensive care unit of The General Hospital of the Northern Theater Command of the People's Liberation Army of China from August 2020 to June 2022. After bacteriological culture, the patients' airway secretions were collected to confirm the presence of Gram-negative bacilli. The patients were divided into the experimental and control groups according to the medication used. The research group consisted of 28 patients who received polymyxin sulfate combined with other drugs through intravenous, nebulization, or intravenous combined with nebulization, with a daily dosage of 1.5-3.0 million units. The control group consisted of 26 patients who received standard dosages of other antibiotics (including sulbactam sodium for injection, cefoperazone sodium sulbactam for injection, tigecycline, meropenem, or vaborbactam). RESULTS: Of the 28 patients included in the research group, 26 patients showed improvement, treatment was ineffective for two patients, and one patient died, with the treatment efficacy rate of 92.82%. Of the 26 patients in the control group, 18 patients improved, treatment was ineffective for eight patients, and two patients died, with the treatment efficacy rate of 54.9%; significant difference was observed between the two groups (P < 0.05). The levels of white blood cell (WBC), procalcitonin (PCT), and C-reactive protein (CRP) in both groups were significantly lower after treatment than before treatment (P < 0.05), and the levels of WBC, PCT, and CRP in the research group were significantly lower than those in the control group (P < 0.05). Compared with before treatment, there were no significant changes in aspartate aminotransferase, creatinine, and glomerular filtration rate in both groups, while total bilirubin and alanine aminotransferase decreased after treatment (P < 0.05) with no difference between the groups. In patients with good clinical outcomes, the sequential organ failure assessment (SOFA) score was low when treated with inhaled polymyxin sulfate, and specific antibiotic treatment did not improve the outcome. Sepsis and septic shock as well as a low SOFA score were independent factors associated with good clinical outcomes. CONCLUSION: Polymyxin sulfate has a significant effect on the treatment of patients with multiple drug-resistant Gram-negative bacilli pneumonia and other infections in the lungs and is safe and reliable. Moreover, the administration route of low-dose intravenous injection combined with nebulization shows better therapeutic effects and lower adverse reactions, providing new ideas for clinical administration.

ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVES: To study the effect of vaccination on the short-term risk of immunoglobulin A vasculitis (IgAV) in children. METHODS: A retrospective analysis was conducted on the general data and the vaccination history within one year prior to onset in children with IgAV hospitalized in the Children's Hospital Affiliated to Zhengzhou University from November 2021 to January 2023. Vaccine exposure rates in the risk period (3 months prior to IgAV onset) and the control period were compared by autocontrol-case crossover analysis, and the odds ratio and 95% confidence interval (95%CI) were calculated. A sensitivity analysis for the one-month and two-month risk periods was conducted. RESULTS: A total of 193 children with IgAV were included, with a median age of 7.0 years. Among the 193 children, 36 (18.7%) received at least one dose of the vaccine within 1 year prior to IgAV onset, and 14 (7.3%) received at least one dose of the vaccine during the 3-month risk period. Compared to the unvaccinated IgAV group, the vaccinated IgAV group had a significantly younger age of onset (P<0.05). There were no significant differences in the proportions of children with gastrointestinal involvement, renal involvement, and joint involvement between the two groups (P>0.05). The odds ratio for developing IgAV after receiving any type of vaccine within 3 months prior to IgAV onset was 2.08 (95%CI: 0.82-5.27, P>0.05). Further sensitivity analysis for the 1-month and 2-month risk periods demonstrated that the odds ratios for developing IgAV after receiving any type of vaccine were 2.74 (95%CI: 0.72-10.48, P>0.05) and 2.72 (95%CI: 0.95-7.77, P>0.05), respectively. CONCLUSIONS: Vaccination dose not increase the risk of IgAV, nor does it exacerbate clinical symptoms in children with IgAV.

ABSTRACT

Background: Portal vein thrombosis (PVT) is a serious complication of liver cirrhosis (LC) and is closely related to gut homeostasis. The study aimed to investigate the composition of gut microbiota and its putative role in PVT development in LC. Methods: 33 patients with LC admitted between January 2022 and December 2022 were enrolled in this study. Based on imaging findings, they were categorized into LC without PVT (n = 21) and LC with PVT (n = 12) groups. Fecal samples were collected from each participant and underwent 16S rDNA sequencing. Results: D-Dimer and platelet elevations were the main clinical features of LC with PVT. The alpha and beta diversity of the gut microbiota in LC with PVT group was found to be significantly higher compared to the control group. The structure of the gut microbiota was significantly different between the two groups. Based on LEfSe data, the genera Akkermansia, Eubacterium hallii group, Fusicatenibacter, and Anaerostipes were enriched in the LC with PVT, while Enterococcus, Weissella, Bacteroides, and Subdoligranulum were enriched in those of the LC subjects. Changes in microbiota structure result in significant differences in gut microbiota metabolism between the two groups. Altered levels of the microbiota genera were shown to be correlated with coagulation factor parameters. In animal experiments, the addition of Bacteroides reversed the CCl4-induced PVT. Conclusion: Liver cirrhosis with PVT led to a disorder in the gut microbiota, which was characterized by an increase in pathogenic bacteria and a decrease in beneficial bacteria. Furthermore, modulating the gut microbiota, especially Bacteroides, may be a promising therapeutic approach to reduce the progression of PVT in LC.

ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVES: To study the relationship between coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) vaccination and the risk of immune thrombocytopenia (ITP). METHODS: A retrospective analysis was conducted on children aged 3-17 years with newly diagnosed ITP who were hospitalized in Children's Hospital Affiliated to Zhengzhou University from November 2021 to December 2022. Clinical data and COVID-19 vaccination status were compared among three groups: ITP patients vaccinated within 12 weeks before onset, vaccinated more than 12 weeks before onset, and unvaccinated. Changes in serum immunoglobulin and complement levels were analyzed among five groups: ITP patients vaccinated <4 weeks before onset, 4-<8 weeks before onset, 8-<12 weeks before onset, ≥12 weeks before onset, and unvaccinated. A case-control design was used to estimate the risk of ITP: 387 children aged 3-17 years with fractures hospitalized during the same period in the emergency department of the hospital were selected as the control group, and the exposure to COVID-19 vaccination within 12, 8, and 4 weeks before onset in ITP children was compared to estimate the risk of ITP. RESULTS: Among 129 ITP children, there were no statistically significant differences in age, gender, rate of preceding infections, absolute platelet count at initial diagnosis, absolute lymphocyte count at initial diagnosis, bleeding score, positive anti-nuclear antibody rate, absolute platelet count after 4 days of treatment, recurrence rate, and proportion of patients with disease duration ≥3 months among the three groups vaccinated within 12 weeks before onset, vaccinated more than 12 weeks before onset, and unvaccinated (P>0.05). There was a statistically significant difference in serum immunoglobulin G, immunoglobulin A, and complement component 3 levels among the groups vaccinated <4 weeks, 4-<8 weeks, 8-<12 weeks, and ≥12 weeks before onset, and unvaccinated (P<0.05). The risk estimation results showed that COVID-19 vaccination within 12 weeks, 8 weeks, and 4 weeks before onset did not increase the risk of ITP (P>0.05). CONCLUSIONS: COVID-19 vaccination does not increase the risk of ITP.

ABSTRACT

One-step harvest of high-purity light hydrocarbons without the desorption process represents an advanced and highly efficient strategy for the purification of target substances. The separation and purification of acetylene (C2H2) from carbon dioxide (CO2) by CO2-selective adsorbents are urgently demanded yet are very challenging owing to their similar physicochemical properties. Here, we employ the pore chemistry strategy to adjust the pore environment by immobilizing polar groups into an ultramicroporous metal-organic framework (MOF), achieving one-step manufacture of high-purity C2H2 from CO2/C2H2 mixtures. Embedding methyl groups into prototype stable MOF (Zn-ox-trz) not only changes the pore environment but also improves the discrimination of guest molecules. The methyl-functionalized Zn-ox-mtz thus exhibits the benchmark reverse CO2/C2H2 uptake ratio of 12.6 (123.32/9.79 cm3 cm-3) and an exceptionally high equimolar CO2/C2H2 selectivity of 1064.9 at ambient conditions. Molecular simulations reveal that the synergetic effect of pore confinement and surfaces decorated with methyl groups provides high recognition of CO2 molecules through multiple van der Waals interactions. The column breakthrough experiments suggest that Zn-ox-mtz dramatically achieved the one-step purification capacity of C2H2 from the CO2/C2H2 mixture with a record C2H2 productivity of 2091 mmol kg-1, surpassing all of the CO2-selective adsorbents reported so far. In addition, Zn-ox-mtz exhibits excellent chemical stability under different pH values of aqueous solutions (pH = 1-12). Moreover, the highly stable framework and excellent inverse selective CO2/C2H2 separation performance showcase its promising application as a C2H2 splitter for industrial manufacture. This work paves the way to developing reverse-selective adsorbents for the challenging gas separation process.

ABSTRACT

Cyclic GMP-AMP synthase (cGAS), a cytosolic DNA sensor, acts as a nucleotidyl transferase that catalyzes ATP and GTP to form cyclic GMP-AMP (cGAMP) and plays a critical role in innate immunity. Hyperactivation of cGAS-STING signaling contributes to hyperinflammatory responses. Therefore, cGAS is considered a promising target for the treatment of inflammatory diseases. Herein, we report the discovery and identification of several novel types of cGAS inhibitors by pyrophosphatase (PPiase)-coupled activity assays. Among these inhibitors, 1-(1-phenyl-3,4-dihydro-1H-pyrrolo[1,2-a]pyrazin-2-yl)prop-2-yn-1-one (compound 3) displayed the highest potency and selectivity at the cellular level. Compound 3 exhibited better inhibitory activity and pathway selectivity than RU.521, which is a selective cGAS inhibitor with anti-inflammatory effects in vitro and in vivo. Thermostability analysis, nuclear magnetic resonance and isothermal titration calorimetry assays confirmed that compound 3 directly binds to the cGAS protein. Mass spectrometry and mutation analysis revealed that compound 3 covalently binds to Cys419 of cGAS. Notably, compound 3 demonstrated promising therapeutic efficacy in a dextran sulfate sodium (DSS)-induced mouse colitis model. These results collectively suggest that compound 3 will be useful for understanding the biological function of cGAS and has the potential to be further developed for inflammatory disease therapies.

ABSTRACT

The B-cell lymphoma 2 (BCL-2) protein family plays a pivotal role in regulating the apoptosis process. BCL-2, as an antiapoptotic protein in this family, mediates apoptosis resistance and is an ideal target for cell death strategies in cancer therapy. Traditional treatment modalities target BCL-2 by occupying the hydrophobic pocket formed by BCL-2 homology (BH) domains 1-3, while in recent years, the BH4 domain of BCL-2 has also been considered an attractive novel target. Herein, we describe the discovery and identification of DC-B01, a novel BCL-2 inhibitor targeting the BH4 domain, through virtual screening combined with biophysical and biochemical methods. Our results from surface plasmon resonance and cellular thermal shift assay confirmed that the BH4 domain is responsible for the interaction between BCL-2 and DC-B01. As evidenced by further cell-based experiments, DC-B01 induced cell killing in a BCL-2-dependent manner and triggered apoptosis via the mitochondria-mediated pathway. DC-B01 disrupted the BCL-2/c-Myc interaction and consequently suppressed the transcriptional activity of c-Myc. Moreover, DC-B01 inhibited tumor growth in vivo in a BCL2dependent manner. Collectively, these results indicate that DC-B01 is a promising BCL-2 BH4 domain inhibitor with the potential for further development.

ABSTRACT

Highly selective separation and purification of acetylene (C2H2) from ethylene (C2H4) and carbon dioxide (CO2) are daunting challenges in light of their similar molecule sizes and physical properties. Herein, we report a two-dimensional (2D) stable metal-organic framework (MOF), NUM-11 ([Cu(Hmpba)2]·1.5DMF) (H2mpba = 4-(3,5-dimethyl-1H-pyrazol-4-yl)benzoic acid), with sql topology, stacked together through π-π interactions for efficient separation of C2H2 from C2H4 and CO2. The 2D-MOF material offers high hydrolytic stability and good purification capacity; especially, it could survive in water for 7 months, even longer. This stable MOF selectively captures C2H2 from mixtures containing C2H4 and CO2, as determined by adsorption isotherms. The ideal adsorbed solution theory selectivity calculations and transient breakthrough experiments were performed to verify the separation capacity. The low isosteric heat of NUM-11a (desolvated NUM-11) (18.24 kJ mol-1 for C2H2) validates the feasibility of adsorbent regeneration with low energy footprint consumption. Furthermore, Grand Canonical Monte Carlo simulations confirmed that the pore surface of the NUM-11 framework enabled preferential binding of C2H2 over C2H4 and CO2 via multiple C-H···O, C-H···π, and C-H···C interactions. This work provides some insights to prepare stable MOF materials toward the purification of C2H2, and the water-stable structure, low isosteric heat, and good cycling stability of NUM-11 make it very promising for practical industrial application.

ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVE: Tan lambs (n = 36, 3 mo old, 19.1±0.53 kg) were used to assess effects of dietary guanidinoacetic acid (GAA) and rumen-protected methionine (RPM) on growth performance, carcass traits, meat quality, and serum parameters. METHODS: Lambs were randomly assigned to three treatment groups, with 6 pens per group and 2 lambs per pen. Dietary treatments were: basal diet alone (I); basal diet supplemented with 0.08% GAA+0.06% RPM (II); and basal diet supplemented with 0.08% GAA+0.08% RPM (III). Diets were provided three times a day for 90 d. Intake per pen was recorded daily and individual lamb body weight (BW) was measured monthly. Carcass traits were measured after slaughter and meat quality at the end of the experiment, blood samples were taken on a subgroup of lambs for analysis of indicators mostly related to protein metabolism. RESULTS: Final BW and average daily gain for the first and second month, and for the entire experiment were greater in Treatment II compared to Treatment I (p<0.05), whereas feed to gain ratio was lower (p<0.05). Treatment II had the optimal dressing percentage and net meat weight proportion, as well as crude protein and intramuscular fat concentrations in muscles. Treatment II improved meat quality, as indicated by the greater water holding capacity, pH after 45 min and 48 h, and lower shear force and cooking loss. Dietary supplementation of GAA and RPM also increased the meat color a* and b* values at 24 h. Finally, Treatment II increased total protein, and serum concentrations of albumin and creatinine, but decreased serum urea nitrogen concentrations, indicating improved protein efficiency. CONCLUSION: In this study, 0.08% GAA+0.06% RPM supplementation improved growth performance and meat quality of Tan lambs.

ABSTRACT

The propane (C3H8)-trapping adsorption behavior is considered as a potential performance to directly produce high-purity propylene (C3H6). Herein, we report an ultramicroporous Mn-based metal-organic framework (NUM-7) with a reverse C3H8-selective behavior in the low-pressure area. The pore structure of this material possesses more electronegative aromatic benzene rings for the stronger binding affinity to C3H8, and the material shows outstanding reverse ideal adsorbed solution theory (IAST) selectivity values. Single-component sorption isotherms preliminarily show the reverse adsorption behavior in the low-pressure part, and the moderate heat of adsorption further confirms this performance and exhibits less energy consumption for regeneration. In addition, the purification effect for the C3H8/C3H6 mixture is evaluated by the IAST selectivity and transient breakthrough curves, and the GCMC calculation results reveal that the fascinating C3H8-trapping behavior mainly depends on the multiple C-H···π interactions. Moreover, because C3H6 is the desired target product, the interesting C3H8-selective adsorption behavior of NUM-7 may provide its potential for one-step purification of C3H6, and this work can provide the method of developing C3H8-selective materials for the purification of C3H6.

ABSTRACT

The promising photocatalytic conversion of CO2 into valuable fuel promotes the development of photocatalyst through various methods. In this work, TiO2 nanoparticle was composited with covalent porphyrin polymers (COP-Ps) to fabricate composite photocatalysts. The resultant COP-Ps/TiO2 composites by in situ hydrothermal method exhibit much improved photocatalytic activity for the conversion of CO2 into CO relative to two components, and it is attributable to improved charge transfer between two moieties led by strong interaction. Especially, TiO2 is composited more evenly with the sulfonated hollow COP-P (sh-COP-P). The resultant composite sh-COP-P/TiO2 performs best with a CO production rate of 5.70 µmol·g-1·h-1, which is approximately 20.4 times as high as that of pure TiO2 and 2.3 times of sh-COP-P polymer. For comparison, the simple physical mixture of sh-COP-P and TiO2 (sm-sh-COP-P/TiO2) was fabricated, and it performs more badly due to poor mixing uniformity. A Z-scheme photocatalytic mechanism was proposed for sh-COP-P/TiO2 composite on the basis of energy band analysis and hydroxyl radical test. This study provides a new in situ strategy to fabricate organic polymer/metal oxide composites of high photocatalytic activity for CO2 reduction.

ABSTRACT

As one type of promising inorganic-organic hybrid crystal material, metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) have attracted widespread attention in many potential fields, particularly in energy storage and conversion. Recently, effective strategies have been developed to construct uniform nanoscale MOFs (NMOFs), which not only retain inherent advantages of MOFs but also develop some improved superiorities, including shorter diffusion pathway for guest transportation and more accessible active sites for surface adsorption and reaction. Additonally, their nanometer size provides more opportunity for post-functionalization and hybridization. In this review, recent progress on the preparation of NMOFs is summarized, primarily through bottom-up strategies including reaction parameter- and coordination-assisted synthesis, and top-down strategies such as liquid exfoliation and salt-template confinement. Additionally, recent applications of NMOFs in batteries as electrodes, separators, and electrolytes is discussed. Finally, some important issues concerning the fabrication and application are emphasized, which should be paid attention in future.

ABSTRACT

Neonatal respiratory distress syndrome (NRDS) is a common disease that occurs in premature infants. However, the mechanisms underlying the disease remain unclear. microRNAs (miRNAs) have been indicated to play a crucial role in the development of NRDS. In this study, we aimed to explore the regulatory mechanisms of miR-296-5p in NRDS. The expression levels of miR-296-5p in preterm infants with NRDS were determined using quantitative reverse-transcription polymerase chain reaction (RT-qPCR). A549 cells were transfected with lentiviral vectors encoding miR-296-5p, and the transfection efficiency was determined using RT-qPCR. Flow cytometry and CCK8 assay were performed to measure apoptosis and proliferation of A549 cells, respectively. The protein levels of pulmonary surfactant SP-A (SFTPA1), SP-B, Wnt7b, and ß-catenin were measured using western blotting. We demonstrated an upregulation of miR-296-5p in NRDS. The miR-296-5p was successfully overexpressed in A549 cells via lentivirus transfection, and the upregulation of miR-296-5p inhibited cell proliferation and secretion of SP-A and SP-B and also induced downregulation of the Wnt7b/ß-catenin in vitro. Therefore, miR-296-5p inhibits cell proliferation and secretion of pulmonary surfactants in A549 cells via downregulation of Wnt7b/ß-catenin signaling.

ABSTRACT

The separation of ethylene (C2H4) from C2 hydrocarbons is considered as one of the most difficult and important processes in the petrochemical industry. Heat-driven cryogenic distillation is still widely used in the C2 hydrocarbons separation realms, which is an energy intensive process and takes up immense space. In response to a greener, more energy-efficient sustainable development, we successfully synthesized a multifunction microporous Mg-based MOF [Mg2(TCPE)(µ2-OH2)(DMA)2]·solvents (NUM-9) with C2H6/C2H2 selectivity based on a physical adsorption mechanism, and with outstanding stability; especially, it is stable up to 500 °C under an air atmosphere. NUM-9a (activated NUM-9) shows good performances in the separation of C2H6/C2H2 from raw ethylene gases. In addition, its actual separation potential is also examined by IAST and dynamic column breakthrough experiments. GCMC calculation results indicate that the unique structure of NUM-9a is primarily conducive to the selective adsorption of C2H6 and C2H2. More importantly, compared with C2H4, NUM-9a prefers to selectively adsorb C2H6 and C2H2 simultaneously, which makes NUM-9a as a sorbent have the capacity to separate C2H4 from C2 hydrocarbon mixtures under mild conditions through a greener and energy-efficient separation strategy.

ABSTRACT

AIM: To determine whether Houttuynia cordata Thunb (HCT) can increase the survival of the retinal ganglion cells (RGCs) and inhibit microglia activation following retinal ischemia-reperfusion (RIR) injury. METHODS: Rat model of RIR was induced by transient elevation of the intraocular pressure (IOP). HCT was orally administered for 2d before the performance of retinal RIR model and once a day for the next 14d. After 14d of RIR injury, the rats were sacrificed for further analysis. Survival RGCs were stained with haematoxylin and eosin (H&E). Apoptosis of RGCs was detected by TUNEL staining. Retinal function was examined by flash-electroretinography (F-ERG). Retinal microglia were labeled using Iba-1, one specific marker for microglia. The mRNA expression levels of inducible nitric oxide synthase (iNOS), tumor necrosis factor alpha (TNF-α), and interleukin 1 beta (IL-1ß) were assessed by quantitative real time reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction (qRT-PCR). RESULTS: Systemic HCT treatment significantly reduced RGCs death by H&E staining and exhibited an anti-apoptotic effect as assessed by TUNEL staining at day 14 after RIR injury. HCT greatly improved the retinal function as examined by F-ERG. The number of activated microglia significantly increased after RIR injury, which was significantly attenuated by HCT treatment. Besides, RIR injury induced a strong upregulation of pro-inflammatory genes TNF-α, iNOS and IL-1ß mRNAs at day 14 post injury, which was suppressed by HCT. CONCLUSION: Neuroprotective effects of HCT encourage the survival of RGCs through inhibiting microglia activation due to RIR injury. Together these results support the use of HCT as promising therapy for the ischemic events of the retina diseases.

ABSTRACT

Necrotizing enterocolitis (NEC) is the leading cause of death due to gastrointestinal disease in preterm infants. The role of miRNAs in NEC is still unknown. The objective of this study was to identify differentially expressed (DE) miRNAs in rats with NEC and analyze their possible roles. In this study, a NEC rat model was established using Sprague-Dawley rat pups. Small RNA sequencing was used to analyze the miRNA expression profiles in the NEC and control rats. Gene Ontology (GO) and Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes (KEGG) analyses were carried out to identify target mRNAs for the DE miRNAs and to explore their potential roles. The DE miRNAs were verified by real-time quantitative PCR (RT-qPCR). The status of intestinal injury and the elevated levels of inflammatory cytokines in the NEC group confirmed that the NEC model was successfully established. The 16 miRNAs were found to be differentially expressed between the NEC group and the control group of rats. Bioinformatics analysis indicated that the parental genes of the DE miRNAs were predominantly implicated in the phosphorylation, cell migration, and protein phosphorylation processes. Moreover, the DE miRNAs were mainly found to be involved in the pathways of axon guidance, endocytosis, and focal adhesion, as well as in the Wnt signaling pathway, which is related to colitis. The expression patterns of the candidate miRNAs (rno-miR-27a-5p and rno-miR-187-3p), as assessed by RT-qPCR, were in accordance with the expression patterns obtained by miRNA-sequencing. The miRNA/mRNA/pathway network revealed that rno-miR-27a-5p and rno-miR-187-3p might be involved in NEC via the Wnt signaling pathway. We found an altered miRNA expression pattern in rats with NEC. We hypothesize that rno-miR-27a-5p and rno-miR-187-3p might mediate the NEC pathophysiological processes via the Wnt signaling pathway.

ABSTRACT

BACKGROUND: Spirulina platensis is recognized as one of the most nutritious foods, containing a high protein content of up to 70%. Meanwhile, he interest in using natural protein resources to develop bioactive peptides is steadily increasing. Therefore, this study released the bioactive peptides from S. platensis by enzymatic hydrolysis using pepsin (1:3000 U g-1 ), and their amino acid sequences were determined by de novo sequencing. On this basis, the antioxidant activities of synthesized bioactive peptides were comprehensively evaluated by 2,2'-azinobis-3-ethylbenzothiazolin-6-sulfonic acid assay, 1,1-diphenyl-2-picryhydrazyl assay, and cell hemolysis assay induced by 2,2'-azobis-(2-amidino-propane) dihydrochloride (AAPH). RESULTS: The degree of hydrolysis and recovery percentage of pepsin hydrolysis were 172 and 825 g kg-1 respectively, and FFEFF (P1: m/z 736.4, 8%), EYFDALA (P2: m/z 828.4, relative intensity 18.5%), and VTAPAASVAL (P3: m/z 899.5, relative intensity 17.3%) were purified and identified. P2 possessed an excellent radical scavenging activity compared with P1, P3, and vitamin C, which was contributed to by its high ß-sheet conformation and specific amino acid compositions. Moreover, P2 significantly attenuated AAPH-induced oxidative hemolysis of erythrocytes and protected the erythrocytes, because it reduced the formation of malondialdehyde and increased the enzyme activities of superoxide dismutase, catalase, and glutathione peroxidase in erythrocytes. CONCLUSION: This study provided insights into the potential antioxidant function of the synthesized peptides originated from the bioactive peptides of S. platensis proteins, which would contribute to the development of natural antioxidant from new protein resources. © 2020 Society of Chemical Industry.

ABSTRACT

As a new type of porous material, metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) have been widely studied in gas adsorption and separation, especially in C2 hydrocarbons. Considering the stronger interaction between the unsaturated molecules and the metal sites, and the smaller molecular size of unsaturated molecules, the usual relationship of affinities and adsorption capacities among C2 hydrocarbons in most common MOFs is C2H2 > C2H4 > C2H6. Herein, a unique microporous metal-organic framework, NUM-7a (activated NUM-7), with a completely reversed adsorption relationship for C2 hydrocarbons (C2H6 > C2H4 > C2H2) has been successfully synthesized, which breaks the traditional concept of the adsorption relationship of MOFs for C2 hydrocarbons. Based on this unique adsorption relationship, a green and simple one-step separation purification for a large amount of C2H4 can be expected to be achieved through the selective adsorption of C2H6. In addition, NUM-7a also shows good selectivities in C2H2/CO2 and CO2/CH4.
