ABSTRACT

PURPOSE: To compare the objective visual quality of moderate-to-high myopia corrected by small incision lenticule extraction (SMILE) and transepithelial photorefractive keratectomy (TransPRK) at a 1,050-Hz ablation frequency, assisted by Smart-Pulse technology (SCHWIND eye-tech-solutions). METHODS: This study involved 123 patients (123 eyes) with moderate-to-high myopia between July 2020 and January 2021. They were categorized into the SMILE group (67 patients, 67 eyes) and the TransPRK group (56 patients, 56 eyes). Follow-ups were conducted at 6 months postoperatively to record the logarithm of the minimum angle of resolution visual acuity, and the Strehl ratio and higher order aberrations were measured using the Sirius anterior segment analysis device (SCHWIND eye-tech-solutions) under a 6-mm pupil diameter at various postoperative intervals. RESULTS: At 1 week and 1 month postoperatively, the uncorrected distance visual acuity (UDVA) in the SMILE group was superior to that in the TransPRK group (P < .05 for both). At 1 week and 1 month postoperatively, the Strehl ratio value in the SMILE group was higher than that in the TransPRK group (P < .05 for both). At 1, 3, and 6 months postoperatively, coma was greater in the SMILE group than in the TransPRK group (P < .05 for all). Spherical aberrations were lower in the SMILE group than in the TransPRK group at 3 and 6 months postoperatively (P < .05). At 6 months postoperatively, UDVA was -0.09 ± 0.08 and -0.11 ± 0.05 logMAR in the SMILE and TransPRK groups, respectively, which exceeded their preoperative corrected distance visual acuity of -0.05 ± 0.04 and -0.09 ± 0.08 logMAR (all P < .001). Compared with preoperative values, the Strehl ratio, total higher order, coma, and spherical aberration differences were significantly increased postoperatively in both groups (all P < .001). CONCLUSIONS: Both surgical methods improved UDVA and each had its advantages. The visual quality of SMILE was superior at 1 week and 1 month postoperatively (Strehl ratio values were higher than those of the TransPRK group), and its spherical aberration was lower than that of the TransPRK group at 3 and 6 months; TransPRK with SmartPulse technology with a 1,050-Hz ablation frequency showed that coma was significantly lower than that of the SMILE group at 1, 3, and 6 months postoperatively. ABSTRACT

The characteristics of lake dissolved organic matter (DOM) pool and lake ecosystem interact, and studying the responses between sediment DOM characteristics and lake ecosystem changes may shed light on the inherent connection between ecosystem evolution and carbon biogeochemical cycles. Lakes in cold and arid regions are sensitive to changes and accumulate large amounts of carbon as DOM, which may provide a window into more explicit relationships between ecosystem evolution and changes in sediment DOM characteristics in time dimension. However, considerable blind spots exist in the responses between the sediment DOM and ecosystem evolution on time scale and the underlying mechanisms. In this study, multiple approaches were combined to investigate the relationship between the variation trend of sediment DOM characteristics and the evolution of fragile lake ecosystems across three different lake ecosystems in cold and arid regions of China. A strong positive relationship between sediment DOM stabilities, especially humification, and ecosystem degradation was found, consistent for the three lakes. Ultra-high-resolution mass spectrometry and structural equation modeling revealed that the changes of ecosystems affected sediment DOM stability through direct pathways (0.24), such as the contents of terrestrial DOM in lake DOM pool, and indirect pathways, including algae-mediated (0.43) and salinity-mediated pathways (0.22), which all increased the contents of refractory DOM in the lake DOM pool and sediments. Based on the fact that DOM stability changes could act on the ecosystem in turn, a possible positive feedback mechanism between ecosystem degradation and increased DOM stability was further inferred. These results suggested that the continuous increased stability of sediment DOM in may implies ecosystem degradation of lakes in the cold and arid regions. This study provides a new perspective for recognizing ecosystem evolution through sediment DOM and improves the understanding of the interaction of lake ecosystem evolution and the biogeochemical cycle of DOM.

ABSTRACT

BACKGROUND: Diabetic retinopathy (DR) is a common complication of diabetes mellitus (DM) and is a leading cause of vision loss. Early detection of DR-related neurodegenerative changes is crucial for effective management and prevention of vision loss in diabetic patients. METHODS: In this study, we employed spectral-domain polarization-sensitive optical coherence tomography (SD PS-OCT) to assess retinal nerve fiber layer (RNFL) changes in 120 eyes from 60 types 1 DM patients without clinical DR and 60 age-matched healthy controls. Visual field testing was performed to evaluate mean sensitivity (MS) and mean defect (MD) as indicators of visual function. RESULTS: SD PS-OCT measurements revealed significant reductions in RNFL birefringence, retardation, and thickness in type 1 DM patients compared to healthy controls. Visual field testing showed decreased MS and increased MD in DM patients, indicating functional impairment correlated with RNFL alterations. CONCLUSION: Our findings demonstrate early neurodegenerative changes in the RNFL of type 1 DM patients without clinical DR, highlighting the potential of SD PS-OCT as a sensitive tool for early detection of subclinical DR-related neurodegeneration. These results underscore the importance of regular ophthalmic screenings in diabetic patients to enable timely intervention and prevent vision-threatening complications.

ABSTRACT

Dissolved organic matter (DOM) constitutes the most active fraction in global carbon pools, with estuarine sediments serving as significant repositories, where DOM is susceptible to dynamic transformations. Anthropogenic nitrogen (N) and sulfur (S) inputs further complicate DOM by creating N-bearing DOM (DON) and S-bearing DOM (DOS). This study delves into the spatial gradients and transformation mechanisms of DOM, DON, and DOS in Pearl River Estuary (PRE) sediments, China, using combined techniques of UV-visible spectroscopy, Excitation-emission matrix (EEM) fluorescence spectroscopy, Fourier transform ion cyclotron resonance mass spectrometry (FT-ICR MS), and microbial high-throughput sequencing. Results uncovered a distinct spatial gradient in DOM concentration, aromaticity (SUVA254), hydrophobicity (SUVA260), the content of substituent groups including carboxyl, carbonyl, hydroxyl and ester groups (A253/A203) of chromophoric DOM (CDOM), and the abundances of tyrosine/tryptophan-like protein and humic-like substances in fluorophoric DOM (FDOM). These all decreased from upper to lower PRE, accompanied by a decrease in O3S and O5S components, indicating seaward reduction in the contribution of terrestrial OM, especially anthropogenic inputs. Additionally, sediments exhibited a reduction in molecular diversity (number of formulas) of DOM, DON, and DOS from upper to lower PRE, with molecules tending towards a lower nominal oxidation state of carbon (NOSC) and higher bio-reactivity (MLBL), molecular weight (m/z) and saturation (H/C). While molecular composition of DOM remained similar in PRE sediments, the relative abundance of lignin-like substances decreased, with a concurrent increase in protein-like and lipid-like substances in DON and DOS from upper to lower PRE. Mechanistic analysis identified the joint influence of terrestrial OM, anthropogenic N/S inputs, and microbial processes in shaping the spatial gradients of DOM, DON, and DOS in PRE estuarine sediments. This study contributes valuable insights into the intricate spatial gradients and transformations of DOM, DON, and DOS within human-impacted estuarine sediments.

ABSTRACT

Objective: The objective of this study was to integrate metabolomics and transcriptomics data to identify key diagnostic and prognostic markers for esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC). Plasma samples were collected from 85 ESCC patients at different stages and 50 healthy volunteers for non-targeted metabolomic analysis. Methods: Liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS) was employed for non-targeted metabolomic analysis. Subsequently, we integrated the metabolomic data with transcriptomic data from the Gene Expression Omnibus (GEO) and prognosis data from The Cancer Genome Atlas Program (TCGA) to perform pathway analysis. Our focus was on pathways that involve both metabolites and upstream genes, as they often exhibit higher accuracy. Results: Through the integration of metabolomics and transcriptomics, we identified significant alterations in the platelet activation pathway in ESCC. This pathway involves the participation of both metabolites and genes, making it a more accurate reflection of pathological changes associated with the disease. Notably, metabolite arachidonic acid (AA) and chemokine receptor type 2(CXCR2) were significantly downregulated in ESCC, while genes collagen type I alpha 1(COL1A1), collagen type I alpha 2(COL1A2), collagen type III alpha 1(COL3A1), type 3 inositol 1,4,5-trisphosphate receptor (ITPR3), and insulin-like growth factor II mRNA binding protein 3(IGF2BP3) were significantly upregulated, indicating the presence of tumor-induced platelet activation in ESCC. Further analysis of prognosis data revealed that high expression of COL1A1, IGF2BP3, and ITPR3 was associated with a favorable prognosis for ESCC, while high CXCR2 expression was linked to an adverse prognosis. In addition, we combined COL1A1, ITPR3, IGF2BP3, CXCR2, and AA to form a diagnostic biomarker panel. The receiver operating characteristic curve (ROC) demonstrated excellent diagnostic capability (AUC=0.987). Conclusion: Our study underscores the significant role of platelet activation pathways and related genes in the diagnosis and prognosis of ESCC patients. These findings offer promising insights for improving the clinical management of ESCC.

Identification of key As mobilization processes in estuarine sediments is challenging due to the transitional hydrodynamic condition and the technical restriction of obtaining fine-scale results. Herein, high-resolution (µm to mm) and in situ profiling of As with associated elements (Fe, Mn, and S) by the diffusive gradients in thin-film (DGT) technique were applied and coupled with pore water and solid phase analysis as well as microbial high-throughput sequencing, to ascertain the driving mechanisms of As mobilization in the sediments of Pearl River Estuary (PRE). Significant diffusion fluxes of As from sediment to water were observed, particularly in the upper estuary. With the seaward increase of salinity, the driving mechanism of As mobilization gradually shifted from microbial-induced dissimilatory Fe reduction to saltwater-induced ion exchange. Correspondingly, the dominant Fe-reducing bacteria (FeRB) in sediments changed from the genera Clostridium_sensu_stricto_1 and Bacillus to Ferrimonas and Deferribacter. The presence of dissolved sulfide in deeper sediments contributes to As removal through the formation of As-S precipitates as supported by theoretical calculations. Fine-scale findings revealed seaward changes of As mobilization mechanism in the sediments of a human-impacted estuary and may benefit the understanding of As biogeochemical behavior in estuaries worldwide.

ABSTRACT

PURPOSE: The aim of this study is to develop an automatic model based on deep learning techniques for determining the Treatment Zone (TZ) and Peripheral Steepened Zone (PSZ) following Orthokeratology (OK) treatment. METHODS: A total of 1346 corneal topography maps were included in the study. A deep neural network based on the Segformer architecture was constructed to automatically detect TZ and PSZ. The model was optimized and trained multiple times, and the areas of TZ, PSZ, and TZ decentration were calculated based on the segmentation results. RESULTS: The mean Intersection over Union (mIoU) of the overall segmentation results of the model reached over 97% after multiple training with different optimization methods, and the IoU for the TZ and PSZ segmentation tasks were 98.08% and 94.54% in test set, respectively. Moreover, the model demonstrated high consistency with the expert annotation for the TZ segmentation, while a significant difference was found in the PSZ segmentation and expert annotation due to several interference factors. CONCLUSION: This study presents an efficient and repeatable system for clinical research, based on a deep neural network that accurately determines TZ and PSZ after OK treatment using the Segformer architecture. However, further deployment validation may be necessary.

ABSTRACT

Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) remains a major global health burden, and sorafenib, a multi-kinase inhibitor, has shown effectiveness in the treatment of HCC and is considered as the first-line therapy for advanced HCC. However, the response to sorafenib varies among patients, and the development of drug resistance poses a prevalent obstacle. Ferroptosis, a newly characterized form of cell death featured by iron-dependent lipid peroxidation, has emerged as a critical player in the reaction to sorafenib therapy in HCC. The induction of ferroptosis has been shown to augment the anticancer benefits of sorafenib. However, it has also been observed to contribute to sorafenib resistance. This review presents a comprehensive and thorough analysis that elucidates the intricate relationship between ferroptosis and sorafenib over recent years, aiming to formulate effective therapeutic approaches for liver cancer. Based on this exploration, we propose innovative strategies intended to overcome sorafenib resistance via targeted modulation of ferroptosis.

ABSTRACT

PURPOSE: Gastric metastasis of lung cancer is rare, and the cases of disappearance of gastric metastasis and liver metastasis caused by oxitinib treatment have not been reported. METHODS: A 47-year-old male patient with no history of diabetes, hypertension or smoking presented with chest discomfort after eating. At the time of consultation, the diagnosis of adenocarcinoma of the right lower lobe of the lung with liver and gastric metastasis was considered by pathological examination of biopsy of the fundus of the stomach near the cardia, pathological examination of CT-guided lung aspiration and pathological examination of liver occupancy aspiration, combined with immunohistochemical results. He was found to have exon 19 deletion in next generation sequencing. We performed osimertinib on him (EGFR-TKI) systemic therapy, followed by local radiation therapy to the right lower lung primary lesion. RESULTS: After systemic treatment with osimertinib and local radiotherapy of the primary site, the metastases disappeared and the primary site showed post-radiotherapy changes, and the evaluated efficacy was complete remission. CONCLUSIONS: This is the first report to our knowledge of a patient who presented with gastric and hepatic metastases from lung cancer and achieved complete remission with osimertinib and local radiotherapy, with good quality of life, which also provides a basis for future clinical work and is of great significance.

ABSTRACT

Tumor immunotherapy represented by programmed cell death protein 1 (PD-1) inhibitors is considered as the most promising cancer treatment method and has been widely used in the treatment of advanced gastric cancer (GC). However, the effective rate of PD-1 inhibitor monotherapy is low. In this study, we constructed a transplanted tumor model in GC mice by inoculating mouse forestomach carcinoma cell (MFC) GC cells into 615 mice. Interventions were conducted with normal saline, anti-PD-1 monoclonal antibody (mAb), bevacizumab, Pseudomonas aeruginosa-mannose-sensitive hemagglutinin (PA-MSHA), anti-PD-1 mAb combined with bevacizumab, anti-PD-1 mAb combined with PA-MSHA, bevacizumab combined with PA-MSHA, anti-PD-1 mAb combined with bevacizumab and PA-MSHA, respectively. The tumor growth curves were drawn. TUNEL assay, western blotting, and immunohistochemistry were used to detect tumor proliferation and apoptosis. Flow cytometry and ELISA were used to detect the expression of tumor infiltrating lymphocytes and cytokines. This study found that anti-PD-1 mAb alone could not significantly inhibit the growth of transplanted tumors in mice. Anti-PD-1 mAb combined with bevacizumab, anti-PD-1 mAb combined with PA-MSHA, anti-PD-1 mAb combined with bevacizumab and PA-MSHA could all significantly inhibit tumor growth in mice, and the combination of three drugs presented the highest tumor inhibition rate. Anti-PD-1 mAb combined with bevacizumab and PA-MSHA could significantly upregulate the number of Th1-type cells, CD8 + T cells, and Type I tumor-associated macrophages (TAMs), while downregulate the number of Th2-type cells, myeloid-derived suppressor cells, regulatory T cells, and Type II TAMs. Therefore, we conclude that anti-PD-1 mAb combined with bevacizumab and/or PA-MSHA has a synergistic effect. Bevacizumab and PA-MSHA can transform the tumor immunosuppressive microenvironment into a supportive immune microenvironment, thus maximizing the antitumor effect of anti-PD-1 mAb.

Estuaries are significant sources of the ozone-depleting greenhouse gas N2O. However, owing to large spatial heterogeneity and discrete measurements, N2O emissions from estuaries are considerably uncertain. Microbial processes are disputed in terms of the dominant N2O production under severe human disturbance. Herein, combining real-time and high-resolution measurements with bioinformatics analysis, we accurately mapped the consecutive two-dimensional N2O distribution in the Pearl River Estuary (PRE), China, and revealed its underlying microbial mechanisms. Both the horizontal and vertical distributions of N2O concentrations varied greatly at fine scales. Supersaturated N2O concentrations (9.1 to 132.2 nmol/L) in the surface water decreased along the estuarine salinity gradient, with several emission hotspots scattering upstream. The vertical N2O distribution showed marked differences from complete mixing upstream to incomplete mixing downstream, with constant or changeable concentrations with increasing depth. Furthermore, spatially varied denitrifying and nitrifying microorganisms controlled the N2O production and distribution in the PRE, with denitrification playing the dominant role. The nirK-type and nirS-type denitrifying bacteria were the primary producers of N2O in the water and sediment columns, respectively. In addition, substrate concentration (NO3- and DOC) regulated N2O production by affecting key microbial processes, while physical influences (water-mass mixing and salt wedges) reshaped N2O distribution. With these information, a conceptual model of estuarine N2O production and distribution was constructed to generalize the possible biochemical processes under environmental constraints, which could provide insights into the N2O biogeochemical cycle and emission mitigation from a mechanistic perspective.

Triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC) is characterized by a high degree of malignancy, early metastasis, limited treatment, and poor prognosis. Immunotherapy, as a new and most promising treatment for cancer, has limited efficacy in TNBC because of the immunosuppressive tumor microenvironment (TME). Inducing pyroptosis and activating the cyclic guanosine monophosphate-adenosine monophosphate synthase/interferon gene stimulator (cGAS/STING) signaling pathway to upregulate innate immunity have become an emerging strategy for enhancing tumor immunotherapy. In this study, albumin nanospheres were constructed with photosensitizer-IR780 encapsulated in the core and cGAS-STING agonists/H2S producer-ZnS loaded on the shell (named IR780-ZnS@HSA). In vitro, IR780-ZnS@HSA produced photothermal therapy (PTT) and photodynamic therapy (PDT) effects. In addition, it stimulated immunogenic cell death (ICD) and activated pyroptosis in tumor cells via the caspase-3-GSDME signaling pathway. IR780-ZnS@HSA also activated the cGAS-STING signaling pathway. The two pathways synergistically boost immune response. In vivo, IR780-ZnS@HSA + laser significantly inhibited tumor growth in 4T1 tumor-bearing mice and triggered an immune response, improving the efficacy of the anti-APD-L1 antibody (aPD-L1). In conclusion, IR780-ZnS@HSA, as a novel inducer of pyroptosis, can significantly inhibit tumor growth and improve the efficacy of aPD-L1.

ABSTRACT

Background: Acquired drug resistance to various tyrosine kinase inhibitor (TKI) inevitably develops in almost all epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR)-mutant non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). The present study aimed to evaluate the efficacy and safety of programmed cell death protein 1 (PD-1) inhibitors for such patients after TKI failure and further explore the subpopulation that exhibited the most benefit. Methods: A total of 102 EGFR-mutant NSCLC patients who received PD-1 inhibitors after developing resistance to EGFR-TKIs were included in the study. The primary endpoints were progression-free survival (PFS) and grade 3-5 adverse events (AEs), while the secondary endpoints were overall survival (OS), disease control rate (DCR) and subgroup analyses. Results: All the 102 patients received 2 or more lines of immunotherapy. The overall median PFS was 4.95 months [95% confidence interval (CI): 3.91-5.89 months]. The EGFRL858R group showed a significant PFS benefit compared with the EGFRD19 group (6.4 vs. 3.5 months, P=0.002), and likewise for the DCR between the 2 groups (EGFRL858R vs. EGFRD19 group: 84.3% vs. 66.7%, P=0.049). In addition, median PFS in the EGFRT790M-negative group (6.47 months) was significantly longer than the EGFRT790M-positive group (3.20 months) (P=0.003). The overall OS was 10.70 months (95% CI: 8.92-12.48 months), without a prognostic factor. There was a trend towards improved PFS and OS with combination therapy. The incidence of grade 3-5 treatment-related AEs was 19.6%, while the incidence of grade 3-5 immune-related AEs (irAEs) was 6.9%. Treatment-related AEs were similar in different mutation subtypes. The incidence of grade 3-5 irAEs was higher in the EGFRD19 group (10.3%) compared with the EGFRL858R group (5.9%), and likewise in the EGFRT790M-negative group (10%) compared with the EGFRT790M-positive group (2.6%). Conclusions: After EGFR-TKI failure, PD-1 inhibitors provided better survival in advanced NSCLC for the EGFRL858R subgroup and EGFRT790M-negative subgroup, and there was a trend towards improved outcomes with combination therapy. In addition, toxicity was well tolerated. Our real-world study increased the population size and obtained a similar survival outcome compared from clinical trials.

ABSTRACT

This study aimed to identify human cytosolic sulfotransferases (SULTs) that are capable of mediating hyperoside sulfation and examine the impact of genetic polymorphisms on their sulfating activity. Of the thirteen known human SULTs analyzed, five (1A1, 1A2, 1A3, 1C2, and 1C4) displayed sulfating activity toward hyperoside. Kinetic parameters of SULT1C4 that showed the strongest sulfating activity were determined. Ten SULT1C4 allozymes previously prepared were shown to display differential sulfating activities toward hyperoside, revealing clearly the functional impact of SULT1C4 genetic polymorphisms. These findings provided a robust biochemical foundation for further studies on the metabolism of hyperoside by sulfation.

ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVES: We performed a network meta-analysis (NMA) with up-to-date evidence to compare different anti-inflammatory agents to improve the treatment of bipolar disorder (BD) patients. METHODS: Four databases (i.e., the Cochrane Library, Web of Science, PubMed, and Embase) were searched for randomized controlled trials (RCTs) published between 1995 and 2022 on the use of anti-inflammatory agents in the treatment of BD. A systematic review and NMA were conducted. RESULTS: Adjunctive N-acetylcysteine (NAC) was superior to placebo for the treatment of BD according to the endpoint scale score (SMD -0.65, 95% confidence interval (CI): - 0.99 to - 0.31), response rate (odds ratio (OR) 3.42, 95% CI: 1.23-9.52), remission rate (OR 4.94, 95% CI: 1.03-41.38) and surface under the cumulative ranking curve (SUCRA) value of the endpoint scale score (0.84). Adjunctive nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) were more favorable than placebo based on the remission rate (OR 3.93, 95% CI: 1.15-13.43) and were significantly more acceptable than other treatments (OR 0.60, 95% CI: 0.36-0.99). Adjunctive coenzyme Q10 (CoQ10) was superior to other agents in terms of the response rate (OR 18.85, 95% CI: 2.63-135.00), with a SUCRA value for the response rate of 0.90 and that for the remission rate of 0.71. CONCLUSION: Adjunctive NAC is recommended for the treatment of BD. Adjunctive NSAIDs and CoQ10 are still seen as effective, but more high-quality clinical studies are needed to verify their efficacy. Other anti-inflammatory agents may not be recommended for clinical use at present. All anti-inflammatory agents demonstrated a good safety profile. We call for further research on the combined treatment of BD with different anti-inflammatory agents to be included in future trials.

ABSTRACT

The predictability of Watson-Crick base pairing provides unique structural programmability to DNA, facilitating the development and application of biomolecules in biocomputing. However, in DNA-based biocomputing, the scale of operation that can be achieved by an existing reaction system is very limited. How to expand the operation range of a logic circuit and realize the integration and extensibility of circuits is always the key problem to be solved in this field. In this work, by designing a multifunctional DNA-nanostructure-based reaction platform, which can realize an output of up to 2n scalable fluorescence signals, combined with the construction of an input "library" and a modular distribution strategy of output signals, for the first time, we successfully performed the calculation of both square roots and cube roots of consecutive integers within a decimal number of "10" and in each result of the operation, two digits after the decimal point are preserved (). We believe that the design concept presented in this work can help effectively solve the urgent problems of biological computing in terms of computational scaling, integration and scalability, and can open up new horizons for the design of new functional devices and complex computing circuits.

ABSTRACT

Molecular systems with ability to controllably transform between different conformations play pivotal roles in regulating biochemical functions. Here, we report the design of a bistable DNA origami four-way junction (DOJ) molecular system that adopts two distinct stable conformations with controllable reconfigurability by using conformation-controlled base stacking. Exquisite control over DOJ's conformation and transformation is realized by programming the stacking bonds (quasi-blunt-ends) within the junction to induce prescribed coaxial stacking of neighboring junction arms. A specific DOJ conformation may be achieved by encoding the stacking bonds with binary stacking sequences based on thermodynamic calculations. Dynamic transformations of DOJ between various conformations are achieved by using specific environmental and molecular stimulations to reprogram the stacking codes. This work provides a useful platform for constructing self-assembled DNA nanostructures and nanomachines and insights for future design of artificial molecular systems with increasing complexity and reconfigurability.

ABSTRACT

Beer spoilage bacteria have been a headache for major breweries. In order to rapidly identify spoilage bacteria and improve the sensitivity and signal-to-noise ratio of bacterial SERS detection, the label-free SERS technique was used as a starting point, and we found eight bacteria species that led to beer spoilage. The impact of AgNP concentration and AgNP and bacterial binding time on the final results were thoroughly investigated. To maximize the increase in the SERS signal, an aluminized chip was created. We merged the t-SNE reduced dimensional analysis algorithm, and SVM, KNN, and LDA machine learning algorithms to further investigate the effect of the approach on the final identification rate. The results demonstrate that SERS spectra had an increased intensity and signal-to-noise ratio. The machine learning classification accuracy rates were all above 90%, indicating that the bacteria were correctly classified and identified.

Physical exercise can benefit individuals' physical and mental health and also influence individuals' long-term behavioral choices. Doing exercise is particularly important given that physical exercise can impact individuals' cognitive abilities and positive emotional states, which may further impact entrepreneurial behavior. Therefore, understanding the relationship between exercise and entrepreneurial behavior is essential, because it can provide policy suggestions for popularizing athletic activities and boosting entrepreneurship. Consequently, the present study examined whether physical exercise could predict entrepreneurial behavior and the possible psychological mechanisms within this relationship. Based on the 2017 Chinese General Social Survey (CGSS2017), this study tested the hypotheses using the Probit and Tobit models. The results showed that individuals' physical exercise intensity and frequency positively affected their entrepreneurial behavior. In addition, five variables moderated the relationships between physical exercise and individual entrepreneurial behavior: urban-rural differences, education level, marital status, the existence of minor children, and age. Moreover, positive emotions and physical/mental health mediated the influence of physical exercise (exercise frequency and exercise intensity) on individual entrepreneurial behavior. Endogeneity explanations were ruled out by including instrumental variable, copula terms and adopting coarsened exact matching.

ABSTRACT

Based on social learning theory and the trickle-down effects, in which behavioral patterns cascade from one management level to the next (also known as the falling domino effect), we attempt to answer whether upper-level managers' temporal leadership can be transferred to lower-level managers to form their temporal leadership, and what the mediating mechanisms and boundary conditions for this occurrence are. By analyzing the data from 234 middle-level managers and 686 junior managers/employees, we found that top managers' temporal leadership was positively associated with middle-level managers' temporal leadership through the mediating role of middle-level managers' temporal leadership perspective and that the relationship was moderated by middle-level managers' identification with the top manager. Identification with the top manager, in particular, strengthens both the top manager's positive effect on middle-level managers' temporal leadership and the top manager's temporal leadership's mediating role in this relationship through their temporal leadership perspective. The theoretical and managerial implications of these findings are investigated.
