ABSTRACT

Regional logistics is an important part of the regional economy. It plays an important role in optimizing the allocation of regional resources, promoting the upgrading of regional industrial structure, and promoting the sustainable development of regional economy. It is known as the "accelerator" of regional economic growth. Under the background of the expanding regional economic differences in China, this article focuses on the important components of regional economy, researching on regional logistics in different regions. This article focuses on the regional logistics development level, the internal mechanism of regional logistics promoting regional economic growth, the current situation and influencing factors of regional logistics development level differences, and the regional logistics development level differences. The purpose of this article is to study the application of artificial intelligence technology to the spatial difference analysis of China's regional logistics development and the construction of information network platform under the background of the new economy. In this article, factor analysis is used to construct the index system. The research shows that the intensity of regional logistics connection is significantly enhanced, the regional logistics network is further improved, and a relatively complete multilevel regional logistics network structure is basically formed. In addition, there are great differences in the level of logistics development among regions. The characteristics of the spatial distribution circle in the eastern, central, and western regions are obvious, which is positively related to the economic development, in the Pearl River Delta with the strongest comprehensive competitiveness. The score coefficient of the Yangtze River Delta logistics area is 1.464, and the score coefficient of the northwest logistics weakest area is -0.328. The development of regional logistics can focus on the construction of logistics park, the construction of logistics network system, the progress of regional logistics technology, and the improvement of logistics efficiency. The construction of logistics park is conducive to the integration of regional logistics resources, improves the utilization efficiency of regional logistics resources, forms the economies of scale, and then reduces the transaction cost of the whole region.

The rapid development of bioeconomy urgently needs the support of biotechnology talents. Establishing an innovative training mode of biotechnology talents can provide support for regional economic development and industrial upgrading. Closely revolved around the concepts of new engineering disciplines development, such as serving the national strategy, docking industry, leading the future development and student-centered, a new economy-oriented training system was developed in School of Bioengineering of Dalian University of Technology. These systems include interdisciplinary curriculum system reconstruction, project-based teaching mode reform, evaluation system implementation and other aspects. The reform and exploration of the first-class biotechnology major under the new economic situation, puts forward the theory of value guidance, deep foundation, strong sense of innovation, technical and non-technical core ability literacy. This reform meets the industry demand for talent diversification, personalization, and dynamic change, helps the merge of industry and education, which provides a way for fostering first-class biotechnology-majored undergraduates.

ABSTRACT

The world of work is facing an ongoing pandemic and an economic downturn with severe effects worldwide. Workers trapped in precarious employment (PE), both formal and informal, are among those most affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. Here we call attention to at least 5 critical ways that the consequences of the crisis among workers in PE will be felt globally: (a) PE will increase, (b) workers in PE will become more precarious, (c) workers in PE will face unemployment without being officially laid off, (d) workers in PE will be exposed to serious stressors and dramatic life changes that may lead to a rise in diseases of despair, and (e) PE might be a factor in deterring the control of or in generating new COVID-19 outbreaks. We conclude that what we really need is a new social contract, where the work of all workers is recognized and protected with adequate job contracts, employment security, and social protection in a new economy, both during and after the COVID-19 crisis.

ABSTRACT

In the last decade or so, inequality studies have assumed renewed prominence across the social sciences. In this introduction to a special issue of Applied Geography, we set out to articulate the importance of urban spatial context in broader present-day inequality debates. We argue that the information-based economy is emphatically urban-based and that it has forged new spatial inequalities in and between cities and among urban populations. Income gaps have widened, inter-city disparities have grown, suburbs have been re-sorted into a wide array on the basis of class and race or ethnicity, and many central cities have assumed a renewed importance within metropolitan areas. We argue that attention to urban spatial dimensions at various scales is critical to understanding current inequality trends, from intra-urban to regional and global scales. Contributions to this special issue from North America, Europe, South America, and China suggest that deepening urban inequalities are pervasive across the globe.

While scholars and politicians tout education as the salve to employment disruptions, we argue that the geography of the new economy, and the social closure mechanisms that geography creates, may be just as important as individuals' characteristics for predicting post-displacement wage loss (or gain). We use data from the 2012 Displaced Workers ement of the Current Population Survey and from the 2010 United States Census to test hypotheses linking local labor markets in different industrial contexts to post-displacement wage loss. Our results point to age as a closure mechanism, and to the partially protective effect of education in high-tech versus low-tech economic sectors. This study is the first to use national level data to examine how employment in high-tech cities influences post-displacement wages. These findings are relevant both for theorizing about the new economy and for public policy.

ABSTRACT

Gender scholars draw on the "theory of gendered organizations" to explain persistent gender inequality in the workplace. This theory argues that gender inequality is built into work organizations in which jobs are characterized by long-term security, standardized career ladders and job descriptions, and management controlled evaluations. Over the past few decades, this basic organizational logic has been transformed. in the so-called new economy, work is increasingly characterized by job insecurity, teamwork, career maps, and networking. Using a case study of geoscientists in the oil and gas industry, we apply a gender lens to this evolving organization of work. This article extends Acker's theory of gendered organizations by identifying the mechanisms that reproduce gender inequality in the twenty-first-century workplace, and by suggesting appropriate policy approaches to remedy these disparities.
