ABSTRACT

Background: Music therapy is a rapidly evolving multidisciplinary field. But there has been no research analyzing the latest research status and development trends in this research field from a macro perspective. We aim to identify hotspots, knowledge base, and frontiers in the field of music therapy through bibliometric analysis. Methods: All data were retrieved from the Web of Science core database from January 1, 2013 to December 31, 2022.CiteSpace and Bibliometrix software were employed for bibliometric analysis and visualization analysis. Results: A total of 2,397 articles were included. In the past decade, there has been a consistent increase in the number of publications. The countries and institutions with the largest production in this field are the USA and the University of London. Based on the analysis of the total number of citations, centrality, and production, the results show that the most influential journals are PLoS One and Cochrane Database Syst Rev. Keyword co-occurrence analysis and highly cited study analysis are mainly used to analyze research hotspots in the field of music therapy, while the keyword burst analysis is employed to explore frontiers and potential developmental trends. Hot keywords include "interventions", "anxiety" and "randomized controlled trial". The burst keywords include "validity", "preterm infants", and "mild cognitive impairment". In the ranking of highly cited study, the top ranked studies are "Music-based interventions in neurological rehabilitation" and "Music interventions for improving psychological and physical outcomes in cancer patients". Conclusion: In the past decade, the research focus in music therapy was the effect of music therapy on neurological diseases and the improvement of psychological symptoms such as pain and anxiety. The neurophysiological mechanisms that bring about these therapeutic effects need to be future researched.

ABSTRACT

Background: Men who have sex with men (MSM) are at a high risk for HIV infection. While pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) is an effective oral preventive strategy, its success is largely dependent on consistent medication adherence. Objective: The aim of this study was to develop the machine learning web application and evaluate the performance in predicting PrEP adherence. Methods: The PrEP prospective cohort study of the MSM population conducted in Western China from 2019 to 2023, and we collected adherence data and personal characteristics data from 747 MSM. Predictor variables were screened and the performance of several machine learning methods in predicting nonadherent behaviors were compared. Results: A total of 11 candidate variables were screened that predicted nonadherent behaviors. We developed and evaluated five machine learning models that performed well in predicting adherence. Attitudes of male sexual partners, self-efficacy, HIV testing, number of male sexual partners, and risk perception were the most important predictors of adherence. The optimal prediction model was displayed in a shiny web application for online calculation of the probability of occurrence of nonadherent behaviors among MSM. Conclusions: Machine learning performed well in predicting nonadherent behaviors among MSM. An interactive and intuitive web application can help identify individuals who may have nonadherent behaviors, resulting in improved medication adherence and increased prevention efficacy.

ABSTRACT

Introduction: The consumption of ultra-processed products has been associated with the etiology of various diseases, mainly metabolic diseases. On the other hand, physical activity acts as a protective factor that helps prevent the appearance of this type of disease. In addition to the physical effects, both the consumption of ultra-processed products (UPPs) and sedentary behaviors have been associated with a significant impact on people's mental health. These problems occur significantly in university students. Online internet interventions are an alternative that has the advantage of reaching a broader sample size and adapting to various problems. Methods: A randomized controlled clinical superiority trial with two independent groups will be developed with 176 participants. Participants in both groups will be evaluated in 5 steps: (1) pretest, (2) middle of the intervention, (3) post-test, (4) follow-up at 3 months, and (5) follow-up at 6 months. In the experimental group ("UNISALUD"), participants will receive an intervention composed of 11 sessions with interactive elements such as videos, audio, and infographics created through the user experience (UX) principles and based on the health action process approach (HAPA). The participants in the control group will be on the waiting list and will receive treatment 27 days after fulfilling the inclusion criteria. Thus, participants will not receive the treatment immediately. Discussion: The study is expected to establish the feasibility of a self-help internet-based intervention created based on the user experience methodology and the health action process model, leading to a significant decrease and increase in the consumption of UPPs, ultra-healthy products, and physical activity, respectively. Conclusion: Internet-based interventions are scarce in Latin America. Due to their potential, this study will provide data about consumption of UPPs, physical activity, and mental health of the Mexican population, which will influence the reduction of health-related complications through prevention strategies or measures.Clinical Trial Registration:ClinicalTrials.gov, NCT05834842.

Introduction: Kaempferol, a flavonoid found in numerous foods and medicinal plants, offers a range of health benefits such as anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, antiviral, anticancer, cardioprotective, and neuroprotective effects. Methods: Herein, a bibliometric and visual analysis of global publications on kaempferol was performed to map the evolution of frontiers and hotspots in the field. Using the search string TS = kaempferol, bibliometric data for this analysis was extracted from the Web of Science Core Collection database and analyzed using the VOSviewer, CiteSpace, and Scimago Graphica software. Results: As a result, by February 26, 2024, 11,214 publications were identified, comprising articles (n = 10,746, 96%) and review articles (n = 468, 4%). Globally, the annual number of kaempferol publications surpassed 100 per year since 2000, exceeded 500 per year since 2018, and further crossed the threshold of 1,000 per year starting in 2022. The major contributing countries were China, the United States of America, and India, while the top three institutes of the citations of kaempferol were the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Consejo Superio de Investigaciones Cientficas, and Uniersidade do Porto. These publications were mainly published in agricultural and food chemistry journals, food chemistry, and phytochemistry. Discussion: The keywords frequently mentioned include phenolic compounds, antioxidant activity, flavonoids, NF-kappa B, inflammation, bioactive compounds, etc. Anti-inflammation, anti-oxidation, and anti-cancer have consistently been the focus of kaempferol research, while cardiovascular protection, neuroprotection, antiviral, and anti-bacterial effects have emerged as recent highlights. The field of kaempferol research is thriving.

ABSTRACT

AIMS: In the Randomized Evaluation of Decreased Usage of Beta-Blockers after Acute Myocardial Infarction (REDUCE-AMI) study, long-term beta-blocker use in patients after acute myocardial infarction (AMI) with preserved left ventricular ejection fraction demonstrated no effect on death or cardiovascular outcomes. The aim of this prespecified substudy was to investigate effects of beta-blockers on self-reported quality of life and well-being. METHODS AND RESULTS: From this parallel-group, open-label, registry-based randomized clinical trial, EQ-5D, and World Health Organization well-being index-5 (WHO-5) questionnaires were obtained at 6-10 weeks and 11-13 months after AMI in 4080 and 806 patients, respectively. We report results from intention-to-treat and on-treatment analyses for the overall population and relevant subgroups using Wilcoxon rank sum test and adjusted ordinal regression analyses. Of the 4080 individuals reporting EQ-5D (median age 64 years, 22% female), 2023 were randomized to beta-blockers. The main outcome, median EQ-5D index score, was 0.94 [interquartile range (IQR) 0.88, 0.97] in the beta-blocker group, and 0.94 (IQR 0.88, 0.97) in the no-beta-blocker group 6-10 weeks after AMI, OR 1.00 [95% CI 0.89-1.13; P > 0.9]. After 11-13 months, results remained unchanged. Findings were robust in on-treatment analyses and across relevant subgroups. Secondary outcomes, EQ-VAS and WHO-5 index score, confirmed these results. CONCLUSION: Among patients after AMI with preserved left ventricular ejection fraction, self-reported quality of life and well-being was not significantly different in individuals randomized to routine long-term beta-blocker therapy as compared to individuals with no beta-blocker use. These results appear consistent regardless of adherence to randomized treatment and across subgroups which emphasizes the need for a careful individual risk-benefit evaluation prior to initiation of beta-blocker treatment.

ABSTRACT

In human microbiome studies, mediation analysis has recently been spotlighted as a practical and powerful analytic tool to survey the causal roles of the microbiome as a mediator to explain the observed relationships between a medical treatment/environmental exposure and a human disease. We also note that, in a clinical research, investigators often trace disease progression sequentially in time; as such, time-to-event (e.g., time-to-disease, time-to-cure) responses, known as survival responses, are prevalent as a surrogate variable for human health or disease. In this paper, we introduce a web cloud computing platform, named as microbiome mediation analysis with survival responses (MiMedSurv), for comprehensive microbiome mediation analysis with survival responses on user-friendly web environments. MiMedSurv is an extension of our prior web cloud computing platform, named as microbiome mediation analysis (MiMed), for survival responses. The two main features that are well-distinguished are as follows. First, MiMedSurv conducts some baseline exploratory non-mediational survival analysis, not involving microbiome, to survey the disparity in survival response between medical treatments/environmental exposures. Then, MiMedSurv identifies the mediating roles of the microbiome in various aspects: (i) as a microbial ecosystem using ecological indices (e.g., alpha and beta diversity indices) and (ii) as individual microbial taxa in various hierarchies (e.g., phyla, classes, orders, families, genera, species). To illustrate its use, we survey the mediating roles of the gut microbiome between antibiotic treatment and time-to-type 1 diabetes. MiMedSurv is freely available on our web server ( http://mimedsurv.micloud.kr ).

ABSTRACT

The landscape theory of food web architecture (LTFWA) describes relationships among body size, trophic position, mobility, and energy channels that serve to couple heterogenous habitats, which in turn promotes long-term system stability. However, empirical tests of the LTFWA are rare and support differs among terrestrial, freshwater, and marine systems. Further, it is unclear whether the theory applies in highly altered ecosystems dominated by introduced species such as the Laurentian Great Lakes. Here, we provide an empirical test of the LTFWA by relating body size, trophic position, and the coupling of different energy channels using stable isotope data from species throughout the Lake Michigan food web. We found that body size was positively related to trophic position, but for a given trophic position, organisms predominately supported by pelagic energy had smaller body sizes than organisms predominately supported by nearshore benthic energy. We also found a hump-shaped trophic relationship in the food web where there is a gradual increase in the coupling of pelagic and nearshore energy channels with larger body sizes as well as higher trophic positions. This highlights the important role of body size and connectivity among habitats in structuring food webs. However, important deviations from expectations are suggestive of how species introductions and other anthropogenic impacts can affect food web structure in large lakes. First, native top predators appear to be flexible couplers that may provide food web resilience, whereas introduced top predators may confer less stability when they specialize on a single energy pathway. Second, some smaller bodied prey fish and invertebrates, in addition to mobile predators, coupled energy from pelagic and nearshore energy channels, which suggests that some prey species may also be important integrators of energy pathways in the system. We conclude that patterns predicted by the LTFWA are present in the face of species introductions and other anthropogenic stressors to a degree, but time-series evaluations are needed to fully understand the mechanisms that promote stability.

BACKGROUND: Web-based self-help (WASH) has been found to be effective in the treatment of child externalizing behavior disorders. However, research on the associations of caregivers' use of WASH and symptom changes of child externalizing behaviors is lacking. OBJECTIVE: This study examined the longitudinal and reciprocal associations between the use of WASH by caregivers of children with externalizing behavior disorders and their children's externalizing behavior symptoms. METHODS: Longitudinal data of 276 families from 2 intervention conditions of a randomized controlled trial (either unguided or supported by a therapist over the phone) were analyzed. Caregiver- and clinician-rated child externalizing behavior symptoms were assessed before (T1), in the middle (T2), and after the 6-month WASH intervention (T3). Additionally, 2 indicators of the caregivers' use of the WASH intervention were considered: number of log-ins (frequency) and the percentage of completed material (intensity). Associations of caregivers' use during early (T1-T2) and late (T2-T3) treatment with child externalizing behavior symptoms were analyzed using path analyses (structural equation modeling). RESULTS: Frequency and intensity of use were higher during the first 3 months than during the next 3 months of the intervention period. The number of log-ins at early treatment was significantly but weakly associated with caregiver-reported child externalizing behavior symptoms in the long term (T3). Moreover, caregiver-reported child externalizing severity at T2 predicted the number of log-ins in the late treatment. The results were not replicated when considering the percentage of completed material as a measure of use or when considering clinician ratings of child externalizing behavior symptoms. CONCLUSIONS: The findings provide the first, albeit weak, evidence for longitudinal associations between caregivers' use of WASH and improvements in caregiver-rated child externalizing behavior symptoms. However, as the associations were rather weak and could not be replicated across different rater perspectives and operationalizations of use, further research is needed to better understand these relations and their interplay with other putative influence factors (eg, quality of the implementation of the interventions, changes in parenting behaviors). ABSTRACT

Objectives: The aim of this research is to discuss the research status, hotspots, frontiers, and development trends in the field of small bowel adenocarcinoma based on bibliometrics and visual analysis by CiteSpace software. Methods: The relevant research articles on SBA from 1923 to 2023 were retrieved from the Web of Science Core Collection database. CiteSpace software was used to form a visual knowledge map and conduct analysis for the countries/regions, journals, authors, keywords, clusters, research hotspots and frontiers of the included articles. Results: There were 921 articles included, and the number of articles published during 1923-2023 is increasing. The country with the highest number of articles published was the United States (443, 38.76%), followed by Japan (84, 9.12%) and France (72, 7.82%). The author with the highest number of publications is Ansell, Overman MJ (33, 3.58%), and the author with the highest co-citation frequency is Overman MJ (218). Journal of Clinical Oncology is the journal with the highest publication frequency. The top five cluster groups were "chemotherapy", "inflammatory bowel disease", "celiac disease", "tumor" and "small intestine". The related disease, chemotherapy drugs, and treatment regimens of SBA form the main research fields, and prognosis and diagnosis are the research hotspots and trends. Conclusion: The global research field in SBA has expanded in the past 100 years. The prognosis and new diagnosis of SBA are hotspots in this field and require further study in the future.

ABSTRACT

Background: Light chain (AL) amyloidosis stands as the most prevalent subtype of systemic amyloidosis, encompassing a group of rare diseases. Here, we evaluated the scientific landscape of AL amyloidosis to investigate research trends and identify hotspots within the field. Methods: Relevant studies on AL amyloidosis published over the past two decades were retrieved from the Web of Science Core Collection. The publications between 2005 and 2024 were subjected to bibliometric analyses, leveraging tools including CiteSpace, VOSviewer, RStudio and MS Excel to analyse and visualize the annual publication trend, co-occurrence patterns, collaborative networks among countries, organizations, and authors. Burst keywords and references were also examined to obtain the research history, and emerging hotspots. Results: The bibliometric analysis included 2,864 articles published between 2005 and 2024. The most productive journal is Amyloid-Journal of Protein Folding Disorders. The United States, along with several developed nations, emerges as a dominant force in international AL amyloidosis research. "AL amyloidosis" and "cardiac amyloidosis" were the primary hotspots over the past two decades, and "Biomarkers," "Cardiac amyloidosis," and "treatment" would be future trends. Conclusion: This bibliometric analysis examined the research developments in AL amyloidosis over the past two decades using bibliometric software. Recent research in this field primarily focuses on two main areas: clinical diagnosis and treatment of AL amyloidosis, as well as cardiac amyloidosis. Emphasis is placed on understanding the mechanisms underlying immunoglobulin light chain aggregation and deposition to mitigate organ involvement.

ABSTRACT

Online Mendelian Inheritance in Animals (OMIA) is a freely available curated knowledgebase that contains information and facilitates research on inherited traits and diseases in animals. For the past 29 years, OMIA has been used by animal geneticists, breeders, and veterinarians worldwide as a definitive source of information. Recent increases in curation capacity and funding for software engineering support have resulted in software upgrades and commencement of several initiatives, which include the enhancement of variant information and links to human data resources, and the introduction of ontology-based breed information and categories. We provide an overview of current information and recent enhancements to OMIA and discuss how we are expanding the integration of OMIA into other resources and databases via the use of ontologies and the adaptation of tools used in human genetics.

ABSTRACT

Background: Myocardial infarction (MI), a critical condition, substantially affects patient outcomes and mortality rates. Long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs) play a critical role in the onset and progression of MI. This study aimed to explore the related research on MI-related lncRNAs from a bibliometric perspective, providing new clues and directions for researchers in the field. Methods: A comprehensive search was conducted on 7 August 2023, using the Web of Science Core Collection (WoSCC) database to compile a dataset of all English-language scientific journals. The search gathered all relevant publications from January 2000 to August 2023 that pertain to MI-related lncRNAs. Data on countries, institutions, journals, authors, and keywords were collected, sorted, statistically analyzed, and visualized using CiteSpace 6.2.R4, VOSviewer 1.6.19, an online bibliometric analysis platform (http://bibliometric.com), and the bibliometric package in R-Studio 4.3.1. Articles were screened by two independent reviewers. Results: Between January 2000 and August 2023, a total of 1,452 papers were published in the research field of MI-related lncRNAs. The year with the most publications was 2020, accounting for 256 papers. The publication volume displayed an exponential growth trend, fitting the equation y = 2.0215e0.2786x, R^2 = 0.97. In this domain, China leads in both the number of published papers (N = 1,034) and total citations, followed by the United States, Germany, Iran, and Italy. The most productive institution is Harbin Medical University (N = 144). The European Review for Medical and Pharmacological Sciences had the highest number of publications (N = 46), while Circulation Research had the most citations (TC = 4,537), indicating its irreplaceable standing in this field. Research mainly focuses on the cardiovascular system, cellular biology, physiology, etc. The most productive author is Zhang Y. Apart from "Myocardial Infarction" and "LncRNA," the most frequent keywords include "expression," "atherosclerosis," and "apoptosis." Cluster analysis suggests current research themes concentrate on cardiovascular diseases and gene expression, cardiac ischemia/reperfusion injury and protection, expression and proliferation, atherosclerosis and inflammatory response, among others. Keyword bursts indicate recent hot topics as targeting, autophagy, etc. Conclusion: This bibliometric analysis reveals that research on MI-related lncRNAs has rapidly expanded between January 2000 and August 2023, primarily led by China and the United States. Our study highlights the significant biological roles of lncRNAs in the pathogenesis and progression of MI, including their involvement in gene expression regulation, atherosclerosis development, and apoptosis. These findings underscore the potential of lncRNAs as therapeutic targets and biomarkers for MI. Additionally, our study provides insights into the features and quality of related publications, as well as the future directions in this research field. There is a long road ahead, highlighting the urgent need for enhanced global academic exchange.

ABSTRACT

AIM: This study aimed to assess the effects of web-based education on blood glucose control, self-care and quality of life in patients with type 2 diabetes. METHODS: A single-blinded randomized controlled trial was conducted in accordance with the Consolidated Standards of Reporting Trials (CONSORT) checklist at a university hospital in Turkey. The study included 89 patients with type 2 diabetes who were randomly divided into an intervention group (44) and a control group (45). Participants in the intervention group participated in a 3-month web-based education programme. RESULTS: The findings indicated that there were no significant differences in sociodemographic characteristics and illness features between the intervention and control groups, and both were homogeneous. A statistically significant decrease of 0.71 was observed in the HbA1c (%) level of the intervention group following web-based education. Following web-based education, there was a significant difference in body mass index (kg/m2) and waist circumferences (cm) between the intervention and control groups. The intervention group displayed significantly improved self-care and quality of life over the 3-month period (p < 0.05). CONCLUSION: This study suggests that web-based education can enhance the self-care and quality of life of patients with type 2 diabetes.

ABSTRACT

Patients with hereditary breast and ovarian cancer (HBOC) are not only concerned about their own health but also about that of their children, grandchildren, and other relatives. Therefore, they have specific needs for information and support. During genetic counseling guidance is provided to HBOC patients and other individuals who may be at risk for familial cancer. The purpose of the study was to identify the needs of HBOC patients during the genetic counseling process that could be addressed by digital solutions. Nine semi-structured qualitative interviews were conducted. Overall, the patients appreciated the personal contact with human geneticists as an especially positive factor in the genetic counseling process. However, patients noted the following needs (1) support in the time following genetic counseling, (2) support before genetic counseling by collecting own and familial medical information, (3) Need for contact options to support services, (4) Need for patient-friendly medical information, (5) Wish for administration-related components in a support app. The results will inform the development of a patient-centered mobile support app.

Background: Malignant tumors of the digestive system pose a serious threat to human health due to their highly malignant nature. Depression, as the most common psychiatric symptom of digestive system tumors, has attracted much attention regarding its potential relationship with these tumors. A thorough investigation into the connection between digestive system tumors and depression is extremely important for strengthening patients' quality of life and treatment outcomes. Methods: From 2014 to 2023, we conducted a literature search using specific keywords in the Web of Science Core Collection (WoSCC) and performed visual analysis of the selected literature using Microsoft Excel, CiteSpace, and VOSviewer software. In this study, we analyzed countries, institutions, authors, journals, and keywords. Results: A total of 384 research articles on the relationship between digestive system tumors and depression were identified. The number of publications showed a gradual increase over time. In terms of disciplinary distribution, Oncology, Health Care Sciences Services, and Medicine General Internal ranked top in terms of publication volume. In terms of geographical distribution, China and the United States were the countries contributing the most publications. Additionally, Maastricht University contributed the most publications. Regarding authors, Beekman, Aartjan T.F. and Dekker, Joost had the highest number of publications, while Zigmond, A.S. had the most citations. It is worth mentioning that Supportive Care in Cancer was the journal with the most publications in this field. In terms of keyword analysis, research mainly focused on mechanisms and treatment strategies related to the relationship between digestive system tumors and depression. Conclusion: The relationship between digestive system tumors and depression has become a new research hotspot in recent years, offering new directions for future research. This research reveals novel perspectives on comprehending the connection between the two, which can guide future research and practice.

The wide-ranging applications of the Internet of Things (IoT) show that it has the potential to revolutionise industry, improve daily life, and overcome global challenges. This study aims to evaluate the performance scalability of mature industrial wireless sensor networks (IWSNs). A new classification approach for IoT in the industrial sector is proposed based on multiple factors and we introduce the integration of 6LoWPAN (IPv6 over low-power wireless personal area networks), message queuing telemetry transport for sensor networks (MQTT-SN), and ContikiMAC protocols for sensor nodes in an industrial IoT system to improve energy-efficient connectivity. The Contiki COOJA WSN simulator was applied to model and simulate the performance of the protocols in two static and moving scenarios and evaluate the proposed novelty detection system (NDS) for network intrusions in order to identify certain events in real time for realistic dataset analysis. The simulation results show that our method is an essential measure in determining the number of transmissions required to achieve a certain reliability target in an IWSNs. Despite the growing demand for low-power operation, deterministic communication, and end-to-end reliability, our methodology of an innovative sensor design using selective surface activation induced by laser (SSAIL) technology was developed and deployed in the FTMC premises to demonstrate its long-term functionality and reliability. The proposed framework was experimentally validated and tested through simulations to demonstrate the applicability and suitability of the proposed approach. The energy efficiency in the optimised WSN was increased by 50%, battery life was extended by 350%, duplicated packets were reduced by 80%, data collisions were reduced by 80%, and it was shown that the proposed methodology and tools could be used effectively in the development of telemetry node networks in new industrial projects in order to detect events and breaches in IoT networks accurately. The energy consumption of the developed sensor nodes was measured. Overall, this study performed a comprehensive assessment of the challenges of industrial processes, such as the reliability and stability of telemetry channels, the energy efficiency of autonomous nodes, and the minimisation of duplicate information transmission in IWSNs.

ABSTRACT

DFOS (distributed fiber-optic sensing) technology has shown the potential to increase the accuracy of measurement after years of development and experimenting in geoengineering monitoring. To better understand the development of DFOS technology and its contribution to geoengineering, an objective and data-driven review of the development process of DFOS technology in construction was completed. The review was accomplished by using text mining methods on the Web of Science, covering a wide range of relevant data, including 3970 articles from 1989 to 2023. The results indicate that DFOS technology research demonstrates the typical characteristics of multi-author, multi-country, and multi-institution collaborations, spanning various research fields. Over the past 35 years, the number of published articles has exhibited exponential growth, with China making significant contributions and leading in terms of its total publication growth rate, which has been higher than that of the United States since 2016. In the analysis of author keywords, emerging technologies, such as machine learning and distributed acoustic sensing, have garnered attention. The findings contribute to a comprehensive understanding of the development, impact, and future trends of DFOS technology in geotechnical engineering, offering valuable insights for researchers, scholars, and students in the field and inspiring new approaches for research methods in this domain.

ABSTRACT

Ensuring food safety, particularly for vulnerable groups, like infants and young children, requires identifying and prioritizing potential hazards in food chains. We previously developed a web-based decision support system (DSS) to identify specific microbiological hazards (MHs) in infant and toddler foods through a structured five-step process. This study takes the framework further by introducing systematic risk ranking (RR) steps to rank MH risks with seven criteria: process survival, recontamination, growth opportunity, meal preparation, hazard-food association evidence, food consumption habits of infants and toddlers in the EU, and MH severity. Each criterion is given a semi-quantitative or quantitative score or risk value, contributing to the final MH risk calculation via three aggregation methods: semi-quantitative risk scoring, semi-quantitative risk value, and outranking multi-criteria decision analysis (MCDA). To validate the criteria and ranking approaches, we conducted a case study to rank MH risks in infant formula, compared the results of the three risk ranking methods, and additionally evaluated the ranking results against expert opinions to ensure their accuracy. The results showed strong agreement among the three methods, consistently ranking Salmonella non-Typhi and Cronobacter spp. and Shiga-toxin-producing Escherichia coli as the top MH risks in infant formulae, with minor deviations. When MHs were ranked after an initial hazard identification step, all three methods produced nearly identical MH rankings, reinforcing the reliability of the ranking steps and the selected criteria. Notably, the risk value and MCDA methods provided more informative MH rankings compared to the risk scoring method. The risk value and risk scoring methods were implemented into an online tool, called the MIcrobiological hazards risk RAnking decision support system (Mira-DSS), available at https://foodmicrobiologywur.shinyapps.io/MIcrobial_hazards_RAnking/. In conclusion, our framework enables the ranking of MH risks, facilitating intervention comparisons and resource allocations to mitigate MH risks in infant foods, with potential applicability to broader food categories.
