ABSTRACT

INTRODUCTION AND OBJECTIVES: To evaluate the quality of information in You Tube videos pertaining to premature ejaculation. MATERIALS AND METHODS: A search for "premature ejaculation" (PE) was performed on You Tube in August 2018. Two senior urologist viewers watched and categorized each video for their sources, suggestions and information contents (excellent, fair or poor). RESULTS: Of the three hundred videos viewed on You Tube, 155 videos were included and analyzed. Mean video length (mean±standard deviation) was 3.08±2.02min. The information content was excellent only in 17 (10.9%) of all videos while for a majority of them it was poor (57.4% n=89). Fair videos constituted 31.7% (n=49) of the videos. There was no relation between the trustworthiness of the videos' contents and either their viewings or ratings (p = 0.561, p = 0.0966, respectively). Videos uploaded by health professionals were more reliable than those uploaded by laypersons (p < 0.001). CONCLUSIONS: The study suggests that although some videos, especially those uploaded by healthcare professionals, are useful; the majority of them have misleading information. Therefore, they are not a reliable source of PE information for PATIENTS: It is incumbent on urologists to counsel patients for other available useful internet information sources on PE

ABSTRACT

INTRODUCTION: People are increasingly consuming information on-demand. Podcasting is a growing medium for education in an on-demand world. There is a paucity of data on podcasting as a means of continuing medical education (CME) for attending physicians. METHODS: The authors performed an exploratory survey of a convenience sample of listeners to a Pediatric Hospital Medicine podcast to learn about their attitudes regarding podcasting. A 17-question survey consisting of demographic data, attitudinal questions, and qualitative questions was administered electronically in February 2018. RESULTS: At the time of the survey, the 12 podcast episodes were downloaded 17,288 times, with 162 CME credits being issued. Of 129 respondents, 75.2% were attendings. The majority agreed the podcast was of "high educational value" and was of equal or better educational value as medical journals or national conferences. Qualitative content analysis revealed listeners valued the convenience of the podcast, and community-based hospitalists felt the podcast connected them to the broader hospitalist community. DISCUSSION: Our respondents found podcasting to be a beneficial and convenient learning method. The ability to apply for CME credit was not a major motivation for listening. Further research is needed to investigate more objective outcomes and assess attitudes of a random sampling of physicians as opposed to a self-selected sample.

ABSTRACT

This study evaluated the Spanish online program "Educar en Positivo" ("The Positive Parent") (http://educarenpositivo.es). Eighty-five users were surveyed to examine changes in views of online parenting support and satisfaction with the module completed, as a function of their sociodemographic profile, their level of experience with the Internet, and their general and educational use of Internet resources. Results showed that parents changed their views of online support, the benefits thereof, and their parenting skills. Participants reported high satisfaction with the program's usability, the module content, and their perception of parental self-efficacy. These findings are moderated by level of Internet experience and educational use of web-based resources, suggesting that improving parents' digital literacy and promoting Internet use may be an effective avenue for improving access to prevention resources. In sum, this program offers a space for Spanish-speaking parents to learn and exchange experiences, thereby filling a gap in ensuring the promotion of positive parenting in this large community of potential users

ABSTRACT

Psychology, as a health profession, has the opportunity and the obligation to deepen its activity, in an area that has not had a notable presence until now. The basic principles of the Web 2.0 integrated into professional practice require, more than simply the use of technology, a new attitude and commitment towards collaboration, the adoption of a transversal perspective of technology in all areas of activity of psychologists and the consideration of people’s self-management abilities regarding their own health. Psychology 2.0 proposes interesting job opportunities and challenges, to which the discipline and the professional associations must respond, in order to guarantee service quality to the people

ABSTRACT

Background: Patients with spinal cord injuries and their carers have access to leaflets on Internet that they can use as educational material to complement traditional forms of education. The aim of this study is to evaluate the readability of informative documents in Spanish, obtained from Internet and aimed at patients with spinal cord injuries. Methods: A search was made with the Google search engine using the following key words: recommendation, advice, guide, manual, self-care, education and information, adding spinal cord injury, paraplegia and tetraplegia to each of the terms. We analyzed the first 50 results of each search. The readability of the leaflets was studied with the Flesch-Szigriszt index and the INFLESZ scale, both available on the INFLESZ program. Also indicated were year of publication, country and number of authors of the documents obtained. Results: We obtained 16 documents, developed between 2001 and 2011. Readability oscillated between 43.34 (somewhat difficult) and 62 (normal), with an average value of 51.56 (somewhat difficult). Only 4 pamphlets (25%) showed a Flesch-Szigriszt index of ≥ 55 (normal). There was no difference in readability by year, authors or country of publication. Conclusions: The readability of 75% of the documents studied was "somewhat difficult" according to the INFLESZ scale. These results coincide with previous studies, in both Spanish and English. If the readability of this type of documents is improved, it will be easier to achieve their educational goal (AU)

ABSTRACT

Knowing how to structure the methodology for the information search and how to be updated on the resources available on the internet (Web 1.0 and 2.0) is basic to any health professional. In this article we try to answer three basic questions for the pediatrician: where to search, how to search and how to be updated. We describe the systematic searching and updating methodology we propose from the Evidence Based Pediatrics Working Group, taking into account that there is no an ideal or universal methodology for bibliographic information searching(AU)

ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVE: Depression affects nearly one in five Americans at some time in their life, causing individual suffering and financial cost. The Internet has made it possible to deliver telemedicine care economically to areas and populations with limited access to specialist or culturally and linguistically congruent care. METHODS: This study compared the effectiveness for Hispanic patients of depression treatment provided by a psychiatrist through Internet videoconferencing (Webcam intervention) and treatment as usual by a primary care provider. Adults (N=167) with a diagnosis of depression were recruited from a community clinic and were randomly assigned to treatment condition. Webcam participants met remotely each month with the psychiatrist, and treatment-as-usual patients received customary care from their primary care providers, all for six months. At baseline and three and six months, analyses of variance tested differences between conditions in scores on depression rating scales and quality-of-life and functional ability measures. RESULTS: All participants experienced an improvement in depression symptoms. Ratings on the Montgomery-Åsberg Depression Rating Scale by clinicians blind to treatment group and self-ratings on the nine-item Patient Health Questionnaire, Quality of Life Enjoyment and Satisfaction Questionnaire, and Sheehan Disability Scale showed a significant main effect of time. On all four measures, a significant interaction of time by intervention favoring the Webcam group was noted. DISCUSSION: Results suggest that telepsychiatry delivered through the Internet utilizing commercially available domestic Webcams and standard Internet and computer equipment is effective and acceptable. Use of this technology may help close the gap in access to culturally and linguistically congruent specialists.

ABSTRACT

Due to increasing occurrence of accidents and illness during business trips, travel, or overseas studies, the requirement for portable EMR (Electronic Medical Records) has increased. This study proposes integrating streaming media technology into the EMR system to facilitate referrals, contracted laboratories, and disease notification among hospitals. The current study encoded static and dynamic medical images of patients into a streaming video format and stored them in a Flash Media Server (FMS). Based on the Taiwan Electronic Medical Record Template (TMT) standard, EMR records can be converted into XML documents and used to integrate description fields with embedded streaming videos. This investigation implemented a web-based portable EMR interchanging system using streaming media techniques to expedite exchanging medical image information among hospitals. The proposed architecture of the portable EMR retrieval system not only provides local hospital users the ability to acquire EMR text files from a previous hospital, but also helps access static and dynamic medical images as reference for clinical diagnosis and treatment. The proposed method protects property rights of medical images through information security mechanisms of the Medical Record Interchange Service Center and Health Certificate Authorization to facilitate proper, efficient, and continuous treatment of patients.

ABSTRACT

Providing webcams for public viewing is a relatively new but growing phenomenon among zoos and aquariums. Reasons for incorporating this programmatic feature are varied, and no guidelines exist to aid institutions considering webcam installations. Decision makers need to know how much effort the cameras require as well as how successful other zoos have found them to be. We evaluated existing webcams and provide an overview of their characteristics, including reliability. Quantitative evaluations provided by zoo/aquarium staff and by zoo members indicate generally positive perceptions of webcams, whereas staff acknowledge a notable level of effort required. Here, we strive to offer guidelines that will help institutions considering this venture.

ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVE: The authors provide examples for the use of the WebCam as a therapeutic tool in child psychiatry, discussing cases to demonstrate the application of the WebCam, which is most often used in psychiatry training programs during resident supervision and for case presentations. METHOD: Six cases illustrate the use of the WebCam in individual and family therapy. RESULTS: The WebCam, used during individual sessions, can facilitate the development of prosocial skills. Comparing individual WebCam video sessions can help to evaluate the effectiveness of medication and progress in therapy. CONCLUSION: The WebCam has proven to be useful in psycho-education, facilitating communication, and treating children and families. The applications of this technology may include cognitive-behavioral therapy, dialectical-behavioral, and group therapy.
