RESUMEN

OBJECTIVE: This study aims to investigate the effects of engaging in artistic and sporting activities on children's levels of digital addiction, aggression, and psychological resilience. MATERIAL AND METHOD: This cross-sectional study encompasses children aged 11-12 who are regularly engaged and not engaged in artistic or sporting education. The study involved 623 children. Data collection utilized the "Digital Addiction Scale," "Child and Adolescent Psychological Resilience Scale," and "Reactive and Proactive Aggression Scale." RESULTS: The study found statistically significant effects of engaging in sporting and artistic activities on digital addiction, psychological resilience, and reactive aggression (p < 0.05). Compared to the group with no activity, children engaged in artistic activities scored -4.38 units lower on the digital addiction scale, while those engaged in sports scored -4.23 units lower. Similarly, compared to the group with no activity, children engaged in artistic activities scored 3.32 units higher on the psychological resilience scale, and those engaged in sports scored 3.30 units higher. As children's psychological resilience scores increased, their scores for digital addiction and aggression decreased. CONCLUSION AND RECOMMENDATIONS: Participation in such activities can help children acquire healthy coping skills, strengthen their emotional regulation abilities, and reduce problems associated with anger. Therefore, encouraging children to engage in these activities is crucial for contributing to their overall well-being and promoting a balanced lifestyle. IMPLICATIONS FOR NURSING PRACTICE: Nurses can educate families about the importance of sports and artistic activities for the healthy development of children. Moreover, diversifying the activities offered to children in schools and youth centers and encouraging these activities can help promote healthy lifestyles and reduce digital addiction.

RESUMEN

OBJECTIVE: This study is conducted as a bibliometric analysis to determine the trends in studies related to family-centered care in children. MATERIALS AND METHODS: The Web of Science database was used to collect study data. A search was conducted on Web of Science using the keywords "family-centered care", "family centered care", "family-centred care", "family centred care", "family-integrated care", "family integrated care", "patient and family centered care", "patient- and family-centered care" and "child" or "pediatric" or "pediatrics" or "child" or "newborn" or "neonatal" or "adolescent" together. The VOSviewer program was used for data analysis and visualization. The analysis included the number of publications by year, distribution by journals, most cited studies, countries with the highest publication output, most frequently used keywords, and co-authorship dimensions, presented with visual maps. RESULTS: A total of 2525 studies conducted from 1980 onwards were analyzed. The analysis revealed that the initial publications related to the subject emerged in 1980, and the United States was identified as the country with the highest number of publications, based on the Web of Science database. The Journal of Pediatric Nursing: Nursing Care of Children and Families (JPN) was determined as the journal with the highest number of publications, while the journal receiving the most citations was PEDIATRICS. CONCLUSION: The study found an increasing importance given to the Family-Centered Care Approach since the 1980s, with a majority of studies being descriptive in nature. It was determined that the studies were concentrated in the USA indicating a lack of global interest in the Family-Centered. PRACTICAL IMPLICATIONS: Nursing researchers can build upon this study in the field of family-centered care by conducting more specific and in-depth investigations. This contributes to adding new information to the nursing literature and filling gaps in this area.

RESUMEN

PURPOSE: This study was conducted cross-sectionally with the aim of determining the factors affecting adolescents' Appearance Related Social Media Consciousness Scale, Social Media Addiction Scale for Adolescents and Body Image Scale scores and the extent to which social media addiction and body image perception predict social media consciousness scores. DESIGN AND METHODS: The population of this study consisted of adolescents between the ages of 12-18 years studying in the academic year 2022-2023. The study was completed with 1667 volunteer students. The Body Image Scale, Social Media Addiction Scale for Adolescents and Appearance Related Social Media Consciousness Scale were used to collect the data. RESULTS: When the models were evaluated, it was determined that being female, increasing the time spent on the internet, sharing pictures frequently, using filters on pictures and being uncomfortable with the sharing of unfiltered pictures, and spending the most time on social media sites were strong predictors of Appearance Related Social Media Consciousness Scale, Social Media Addiction Scale for Adolescents and Body Image Scale scores. CONCLUSIONS: As a result, in our study, as adolescents' negative body image perception and social media addiction increased, social media consciousness about appearance increased. PRACTICE IMPLICATIONS: Nurses can determine risky groups according to the results of the study and organize trainings on body image perception, the effects of social media use and media literacy.

RESUMEN

ABSRTACTThis study aims to investigate the life experiences of refugee children and examine the symbolic representations of these experiences in their drawings. In this study, the phenomenological research design, which is a qualitative research approach, was adopted. The study was carried out with 28 refugee children. The obtained qualitative data were analyzed through thematic coding. It has been found in this study that three themes "The Challenges of Immigration," "Living in A Country Without War," "Outlook for The Future." Refugee children experience challenges in many aspects, including but not limited to education, economic status and social life. It has been determined that despite the challenges they face, refugee children have embraced their host country, that they feel safe, and that most do not want to go back to their home countries as they fear for their lives. In this study, it has been concluded that refugee children experience various asylum-related issues. In line with the obtained data, it is recommended to pre-determine the mental and physical problems refugee children may face, ensure their protection, minimize their asylum-related issues, produce national and international policies on their access to education, health, and basic services and take other relevant necessary measures. Practice Implications: This study contributes to our better understanding of what difficulties migration causes in children's lives and how children experience this process. All the health professionals who have roles and responsibilities in the protection and development of the health of migrant children can take advantage from the results of the study.

AIM: To determine the psychometric properties of the Digital Addiction Scale for Children. DESIGN AND METHOD: This methodological study included 506 children aged 9-12 years. Data were collected using the child and family information form, the digital addiction scale for children and the digital game addiction scale for children. The data were evaluated using confirmatory factor analysis Cronbach's alpha, convergent validity, and gender-based measurement invariance analysis. Confirmatory factor analysis was applied using Mplus 8.7 with robust maximum likelihood estimation procedures. RESULTS: Confirmatory factor were performed for construct validity. The scale was found to have good model fit indicators. The factor loadings of all the components were found to be >0.40. Convergent validity of Digital addiction scale for children and digital game addiction scale showed a significant positive high correlation. The total Cronbach alpha value of the scale was determined as 0.94, and the Cronbach alpha values of the subscales as Interpersonal 0.89, and Intrapersonal 0.91. CONCLUSION: The use of the digital addiction scale for children was determined to be a valid and reliable scale for the screening of digital device use and digital addiction in a Turkish sample. PRACTICE IMPLICATIONS: Nurses and other health professionals have an important role in detecting situations that put children's health at risk and promoting positive behaviors. It is especially important that school health nurses use valid and reliable tools that can determine children's digital addictions. Since this scale is easy and practical, it is thought that it will contribute significantly to the literature.

RESUMEN

OBJECTIVE: This study was conducted to determine psychological stress experienced by parents and posttraumatic emotional stress experienced by children during the COVID-19 pandemic. METHOD: The study has cross-sectional design and included parents who have 3- to 10 year-old children studying at kindergartens and primary schools under the Yozgat Directorate of National Education in Turkey, and who volunteered to participate in the study. The study was completed with 1,109 parents. School administrators were informed of the study and an online data collection form was distributed through parent WhatsApp groups. RESULTS: Fathers at or above the age of 37 were found to have lower Kessler Psychological Distress Scale (K10-PDS) scores (p < .05). In the study, K10-PDS scores of parents working as health care employees and Pediatric Emotional Distress Scale (PEDS) scores of their children were significantly higher than those of other groups (p < .05). K10-PDS scores of parents with children in the 3-6 age group who had behavioral changes, increased screen usage, and disturbed sleep and diet were found to be higher than those of other groups (p < .05). According to regression analysis K10-PDS scores of parents significantly explained 34% of children's PEDS score (R² = .340) (p < .001). CONCLUSIONS: This study determined that COVID-19 causes children to experience posttraumatic stress disorder. In addition, the study found increased stress levels of parents and children experiencing posttraumatic stress disorder. (PsycInfo Database Record (c) 2023 APA, all rights reserved).

RESUMEN

OBJECTIVE: The aim of this study was to determine the interest in vitamin use during the COVID-19 pandemic using Google Trends data. METHOD: Searches were made between January 1, 2016 and August 30, 2020. First, the word "vitamin" was searched. Additionally, the search words "vitamin," "COVID-19," "immunity," and Vitamin D," "Vitamin C," "Vitamin E," and "Vitamin A" were searched comparatively. Search was made in Turkish (in Turkey) and English (in world). Additionally, the word "vitamin" was translated into some countries' languages and was searched. Relative search volumes (RSVs) obtained in searches are presented with graphics. RSVs, downloaded as .csv were transferred to SPSS. Descriptive data was given as numbers and percentages. Kruskal-Wallis analysis was used to determine the difference of RSVs according to years and seasons. Additionally, queries arising related to search words were presented. RESULTS: Findings from the present study determined that the trend toward vitamins reached 100 RSVs in March 2020, when COVID-19 was declared a pandemic. Vitamins D and C were the most frequently searched vitamin types in Turkey and worldwide. It was determined that searches consisting of a combination of COVID-19 and vitamins were made. CONCLUSION: Vitamins attract public interest globally. Seasonal variation and COVID-19 shaped the popularity of vitamins both worldwide and in Turkey. The search frequency was highest in the autumn and spring, but the largest search related to all search terms was determined to be in March 2020. Interest in vitamins has increased since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic.
