RESUMEN

During SARS-CoV-2 infection, an effective immune response provides the first line of defense; however, excessive inflammatory innate immunity and impaired adaptive immunity may harm tissues. Soluble immune mediators are involved in the dynamic interaction of ligands with membrane-bound receptors to maintain and restore health after pathological events. In some cases, the dysregulation of their expression can lead to disease pathology. In this literature review, we described current knowledge of the basic features of soluble immune mediators and their dysregulation during SARS-CoV-2 infections and highlighted their contribution to disease severity and mortality. This study was conducted to assess the effect of feeding high-surface ZnO instead of common ZnO on the performance, rumen fermentation, blood minerals, leukocytes and antioxidant capacity of pre- and post-weaning calves. Thirty male suckling Holstein calves were allotted to one of three experimental groups (10 replicates) in a completely randomised design. Calves received: (1) a low Zn diet without Zn supplementation (control diet), (2) a high Zn diet containing 50 mg supplementary Zn/kg dry matter (DM) as common ZnO or (3) a high Zn diet containing 50 mg supplementary Zn/kg DM as high-surface ZnO (nano-ZnO). The control diet contained a native Zn content of 35.5, 34.7 or 33.7 mg/kg DM for the age periods of 7 to 30, 31 to 70 and 71 to 100 d, respectively. Supplementation of the diet with Zn did not change the dry matter intake (DMI) of calves during d 7 to 30 but increased the ADG in this period (p < 0.05). During age periods of 31 to 70 and 71 to 100 d, DMI and ADG of the Zn supplemented calves were higher (p < 0.05) than the control animals. The nutrient digestibility and the concentration of rumen volatile fatty acids were positively affected (p < 0.05) and the rumen ammonia-N concentration decreased (p < 0.05) by dietary Zn supplementation. Furthermore, the incidence of diarrhoea and pneumonia was lower in calves receiving the Zn supplemented diets. Irrespective of ZnO source, the blood total antioxidant capacity, leukocyte and haematocrit levels significantly increased (p < 0.05) with the ZnO supplemented diets. The post-weaning DMI, nutrient  digestibility and blood haematocrit levels were higher in calves receiving high-surface ZnO, compared to those supplemented with common ZnO. With inclusion of the Zn sources in pre- and post-weaning diets, the blood Zn concentration increased (p < 0.05), but the blood Cu, Fe, Ca, P and Mg levels remained unchanged. Regardless of source, dietary supplementation of young calves with ZnO improved the performance and decreased rumen ammonia-N and the incidence of diseases. Moreover, high-surface ZnO had advantages over common ZnO in increasing the post-weaning feed intake, digestibility and blood Zn concentration.

Introduction: Modifying the durability of resin bonding systems resulted in introducing materials with cross-link property, such as chlorhexidine (CHX) that can promote the strength of resin-dentin bonding. The aim of this study was evaluation of the effect of CHX on shear bond strength (SBS) of self-etch (SE) and etch-and-rinse (E&R) bonding systems to the primary teeth dentin. Materials and methods: In this in vitro study, 40 freshly extracted primary molars collected and were cut mesiodistally, and then the buccal and lingual surface enamel was grounded. The specimens were randomly divided into two groups: I: Single Bond adhesive and II: Clearfil SE Bond adhesive. Then, each group was divided into two subgroups: On the buccal surface of each sample CHX was applied for 30 seconds and on the lingual surface of (I2, II2 groups), CHX was not applied. The SBS (MPa) of samples was assessed using the Zwick universal testing machine. Data were analyzed by paired t-test and independent t-test using Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS), version 16. Results: The mean SBS was significantly higher in the Single Bond group with CHX (66.45 ± 8.3) than without CHX (25.43 ± 12.94) in the nonaging group (p = 0.002). There was no significant difference in the mean SBS in the Clearfil SE Bond group with CHX and without CHX in the aging and nonaging groups. Conclusion: CHX had positive influence on immediate SBS of Single Bond adhesive to primary teeth dentin. In addition, no positive effect has been seen in the Clearfil SE Bond system. Clinical significance: Now more researches are needed about the recommendation of CHX in resin restorations of primary teeth. INTRODUCTION: One of the possible mechanisms for the gradual destruction of bond strength in dentin-resin interface, could be due to the demineralized unstable collagen matrix. Use of protease inhibitors, such as tannic acid (TA) could prevent destruction of collagen fibers. The aim of this study was to compare the TA effect on bond strength of etch and rinse and self-etch adhesive systems in the dentin of primary teeth. MATERIALS AND METHODS: This in vitro study was done on 40 extracted primary molar teeth. The teeth were sectioned in the mesiodistal direction, and enamel of buccal and lingual surfaces was removed. Samples were randomly divided into four groups: Single bond (SB) + TA, SB, Clearfil SE Bond (CSB) + TA, and CSB. Then, Z250 and Clearfil AP-X composites were cured on the surfaces of SB and CSB groups respectively. After that, all samples were divided into aging and non-aging groups. For 3 months, samples were placed under 1,000 thermal cycles in aging group. Subsequently, the shear bond strengths of all groups were measured by the International testing machine, and failure mode was evaluated by an optical stereomicroscope. Data were analyzed with paired t-test and independent t-test. RESULTS: Tannic acid induced a significant reduction in the immediate bond strength of adhesive SB. Meanwhile, TA had no significant effect on shear bond strength of the CSB system. CONCLUSION: Based on our findings, use of TA is not recommended with SB and CSB adhesives on primary teeth. CLINICAL SIGNIFICANCE: Tannic acid may not be considered in resin restorations of primary teeth.

OBJECTIVES: The objective of this study was to assess the effect of new bonding techniques on enamel surface. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Sixty upper central incisors were randomly divided into two equal groups. In the first group, metal brackets were bonded using TransbondXT and, in the second group, the same brackets were bonded with Maxcem Elite. The shear bond strength (SBS) of both agents to enamel was measured and the number and length of enamel cracks before bonding, after debonding and after polishing were compared. The number of visible cracks and the adhesive remnant index (ARI) scores in each group were also measured. RESULTS: There were significantly more enamel cracks in the Transbond XT group after debonding and polishing compared to the Maxcem Elite group. There was no significant difference in the length of enamel cracks between the two groups; but, in each group, a significant increase in the length of enamel cracks was noticeable after debonding. Polishing did not cause any statistically significant change in crack length. The SBS of Maxcem Elite was significantly lower than that of Transbond XT (95% confidence interval). CONCLUSION: Maxcem Elite offers clinically acceptable bond strength and can thus be used as a routine adhesive for orthodontic purposes since it is less likely to damage the enamel.

RESUMEN

OBJECTIVES: The aim of this study was to determine the probable side effects of electrosurgery in pulpectomy of deciduous teeth on succedaneous teeth in dogs. MATERIALS AND METHODS: In this animal study, all maxillary and mandibular teeth at one side of five puppies' mouths were treated employing electrosurgical pulpectomy and were then compared with those of the other side treated using the conventional method. The electrosurgical dental electrode was placed in canals to the point of working length for the experimental group. After pulpectomy, the canals were filled with zinc oxide eugenol paste and the access cavity was restored with amalgam. The dogs remained under care until their successor teeth erupted and clinical examination was performed. RESULTS: The teeth treated employing electrosurgical pulpectomy presented natural appearance with no observable defects including enamel hypoplasia, diffuse opacities of enamel, demarcated opacities, and enamel discoloration. CONCLUSION: Electrosurgical pulpectomy can be considered as an option for pulpectomy of deciduous teeth.

RESUMEN

The routine treatment for rotated maxillary incisor is a fixed appliance, but in some instance the use of this method is impossible. In addition, in only limited cases of rotation, removable appliance is applicable. In this study, the use of a semi-removable appliance is presented, which has some benefits over the other methods. In this study, the corrections of about 70-90° rotation of the maxillary central incisors in different phases of mixed dentition were performed in three patients using whip appliance. This method was performed using a simple removable appliance such as Hawley appliance and whip spring that forced the couple to derotate the tooth. In all cases, treatment was successfully completed in relative short duration. Whip appliance can be recommended as an effective method to correct rotation of maxillary incisor in mixed dentition with several advantages like rapid correction.
