RESUMEN

We investigate the dynamics of high energy dual regime unidirectional Erbium-doped fiber laser in ring cavity, which is passively Q-switched and mode-locked through the use of an environmentally friendly graphene filament-chitin film-based saturable absorber. The graphene-chitin passive saturable absorber allows the option for different operating regimes of the laser by simple adjustment of the input pump power, yielding, simultaneously, highly stable and high energy Q-switched pulses at 82.08 nJ and 1.08 ps mode-locked pulses. The finding can have applications in a multitude of fields due to its versatility and the regime of operation that is on demand.

This study aims to evaluate the immediate effect of a robotic ankle-foot orthosis developed in previous studies on a foot drop patient. The difference with previous research on AFO evaluation is that this research used a setting based on the patient's request. The robotic AFO locked the foot position on zero radians during the foot flat until the push-off but generates dorsiflexion with a constant velocity in the swing phase to clear the foot drop. A kinematic and spatiotemporal parameter was observed using the sensors available on the robotic AFO. The robotic successfully assisted the foot drop (positive ankle position of 21.77 degrees during the swing phase and initial contact) with good repeatability (σ2 = 0.001). An interview has also conducted to investigate the qualitative response of the patient. The interview result reveals not only the usefulness of the robotic AFO in assisting the foot drop but also some improvement notes for future studies. For instance, the necessary improvement of weight and balance and employing ankle velocity references for controlling the walking gait throughout the whole gait cycle.

Considering persistent years, many researchers continuously seek an optimum way to utilize the idea of magnetorheology (MR) materials to be practically used for everyday life, particularly concerning resistivity sensing application. The rheology and resistivity of a graphite (Gr)-based magnetorheological elastomer (Gr-MRE) were experimentally evaluated in the present research. Magnetorheological elastomer (MRE) samples were prepared by adding Gr as a new additive during MRE fabrication. The effect of additional Gr on the rheological and resistivity properties were investigated and compared with those of typical MREs without a Gr additive. Morphological aspects of Gr-MRE were characterized using field emission scanning electron microscopy (FESEM) and energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDX). Rheological properties under different magnetic fields were evaluated using a parallel-plate rheometer. Subsequently, the resistivity of all samples was measured under different applied forces and magnetic fields. From the resistivity evaluation, two relationship curves resistance (R) under different applied forces (F) and different magnetic fields (B) were established and plotted by using an empirical model. It was observed from the FESEM images that the presence of Gr fractions arrangement contributes to the conductivity of MRE. It was also observed that, with the addition of Gr, rheological properties such as the field-dependent modulus can be improved, particularly at low strain amplitudes. It is also demonstrated that the addition of Gr in MRE can contribute to the likely use of force detection in tactile sensing devices.

RESUMEN

In recent years, there has been major interest in the exposure to physical therapy during rehabilitation. Several publications have demonstrated its usefulness in clinical/medical and human machine interface (HMI) applications. An automated system will guide the user to perform the training during rehabilitation independently. Advances in engineering have extended electromyography (EMG) beyond the traditional diagnostic applications to also include applications in diverse areas such as movement analysis. This paper gives an overview of the numerous methods available to recognize motion patterns of EMG signals for both isotonic and isometric contractions. Various signal analysis methods are compared by illustrating their applicability in real-time settings. This paper will be of interest to researchers who would like to select the most appropriate methodology in classifying motion patterns, especially during different types of contractions. For feature extraction, the probability density function (PDF) of EMG signals will be the main interest of this study. Following that, a brief explanation of the different methods for pre-processing, feature extraction and classifying EMG signals will be compared in terms of their performance. The crux of this paper is to review the most recent developments and research studies related to the issues mentioned above.
