\textbf{Background:} Psychiatric disorders such as schizophrenia (SCZ), bipolar disorder (BD), and depression (DPR) are one of the leading causes of disability and suicide worldwide. The signs and symptoms of SCZ, BD, and DPR vary dynamically and do not have uniform detection strategies. The main causes of delays in the detection of psychiatric disorders are negligence by immediate caregivers, varying symptoms, stigma and limited availability of physiological signals. \textbf{Motivation:} The brain functionality in the patients with SCZ, BD, and DPR changes compared to the normal cognition population. The brain-heart interaction plays a crucial role to track the changes in cardiac activities during such disorders. Therefore, this paper explores the application of electrocardiogram (ECG) signals for the detection of three psychiatric (SCZ, BD, and DPR) disorders. \textbf{Method:} This paper develops ECGPsychNet an ensemble decomposition and classification technique for the automated detection of SCZ, BD, and DPR using ECG signals. Three well-known decomposition techniques empirical mode decomposition, variational mode decomposition, and tunable Q wavelet transform (TQWT) are used to decompose the ECG signals in to various subbands(SBs). Various features are extracted from the different SBs and classified using optimizable ensemble techniques using two validation techniques. \textbf{Results:} The developed ECGPsychNet has obtained the highest classification accuracy of 98.15\% using the features from the sixth SB of TQWT. Our proposed model has the highest detection rate of 98.96\%, 96.04\%, and 95.12\% for SCZ, DPR, and BD. \textbf{Conclusions:} Our developed prototype is able to detect SCZ, DPR and BD using ECG signals. However, the automated ECGPsychNet is ready to be tested with more dataset belonging to different races and age groups.

RESUMEN

South American tomato leafminer, Tuta absoluta (Meyrick, 1917) (Lepidoptera: Gelechiidae), is native to South America, but is a major invasive and quarantine pest species in Europe, Africa, and Asia. It causes extensive damage of up to 100% yield loss in tomatoes (Solanum lycopersicum) in open and greenhouse conditions. Since its first invasion in Spain in 2006, it has spread rapidly into many countries in the Mediterranean and Western Europe and further invaded Africa and Asia. In Asia, it was first recorded in August 2009 in Turkey and spread to most South and East Asian countries. In this study, we reviewed existing work on the biology and distribution of T. absoluta in Asia, as well as the damage it causes. This review will help to develop efficient management tactics as well as establish quarantine and phytosanitary precautions in uninvaded countries.

The fall armyworm (FAW), Spodoptera frugiperda, is an important agricultural pest species native to the Western Hemisphere and has recently invaded to Africa and Asia. Owing to the development of pesticide resistance and environmental contamination, ecofriendly pesticides are desirable for FAW control. Azadirachtin is a plant-derived natural pesticide with low toxicity to humans and the natural environment. Azadirachtin is primarily applied by foliar spraying; however, this approach lowers the efficacy of controlling target insects owing to photodegradation and might give a harmful effect on nontarget beneficial insects. Thus, we investigated whether applying azadirachtin to soil improves FAW control and its toxicity to corn plants. Soil drainage of azadirachtin exhibited no phytotoxic effects on corn plants but significantly reduced the larval body weight and delayed the developmental period of each larval instar of FAW. Applying 10, 15, and 20 ppm azadirachtin to soil inhibited larval growth by 68%, 76%, and 91%, respectively. Furthermore, the survival rate of FAW gradually decreased when larvae were fed azadirachtin-treated corn leaves. Collectively, this is the first study suggesting the systemic efficacy of azadirachtin by soil drenching against FAW.

Outbreaks of Lymantria dispar asiatica (the Asian spongy moth; Lepidoptera: Erebidae) occur sporadically, causing widespread damage to forest and fruit trees. Owing to the development of pesticide resistance and environmental contamination, biopesticides, including L. dispar multiple nucleopolyhedrovirus (LdMNPV) and Bacillus thuringiensis var. kurstaki (Btk), can significantly contribute to controlling overall larval stage of this species. Although both pathogens are highly effective at the larval stage, their effects on different instar stages have not been investigated. In this study, we analyzed the mortality and lethality in different L. dispar asiatica instars exposed to single or combined pathogen treatments. Treatments with low or medium LdMNPV concentrations induced lower mortality and had higher LT50 values at the 4th and 5th instars compared with other instars, whereas high LdMNPV treatments induced high mortality in all instars, with higher LT50 values at later instars. Treatment with Btk induced a rapid 100% mortality in all instars, with higher LT50 values for the later instars. The combination of LdMNPV and Btk delayed the killing time compared with the effects of single treatments, with the effect being more pronounced in the 1st and 5th instar stage than at other stages at low Btk concentrations. Our findings indicate that the pathogenic effects of LdMNPV and Btk on L. dispar asiatica differ according to larval stage, thereby providing novel insights into enhancing the biological control efficacy of these agents against L. dispar asiatica in the field.

Bemisia tabaci is a species complex consisting of various genetically different cryptic species worldwide. To understand the genetic characteristics and geographic distribution of cryptic species of B. tabaci in Asia, we conducted an extensive collection of B. tabaci samples in ten Asian countries (Bangladesh, Indonesia, Japan, Korea, Myanmar, Nepal, Philippines, Singapore, Taiwan, and Vietnam) from 2013 to 2020 and determined 56 different partial sequences of mitochondrial cytochrome oxidase subunit I (COI) DNA. In addition, information on 129 COI sequences of B. tabaci identified from 16 Asian countries was downloaded from the GenBank database. Among the total 185 COI sequences of B. tabaci, the sequence variation reached to 19.68%. In addition, there were 31 cryptic species updated from 16 countries in Asia, that is, Asia I, Asia I India, Asia II (1-13), Asia III, Asia IV, Asia V, China 1-6, MEAM (1, 2, K), MED, Australia/Indonesia, Japan (1 and 2). Further, MED cryptic species consisted of 2 clades, Q1 and Q2. This study provides updated information to understand the genetic variation and geographic diversity of B. tabaci in Asia.

Background: Alcohol is a potent substance that causes both acute and chronic changes in almost all neurochemical systems, with the result that heavy drinking can produce serious psychological symptoms including depression, anxiety, and psychoses. It also affects sexual health adversely and causes sexual dysfunction. Methods: This study aimed to find the prevalence and pattern of sexual dysfunction in male patients with alcohol dependence. This cross-sectional study included 100 patients attending psychiatry out patient department (OPD) at a tertiary care center in west India. Informed written consent was taken for collecting socio-demographic and clinical data in a uniform and standard manner. Sexual dysfunction was assessed using a sexual dysfunction checklist, constructed by Arackal and Benegal at the national institute of mental health and neuroscience, Bangalore containing 12 items from the diagnostic criteria for research and ICD-10 classification of mental and behavioral disorders. The Leeds dependence questionnaire was used to assess the severity of alcohol dependence. Findings: Sexual dysfunction was present in 62% of the patients. Among the patients, 36% had difficulty achieving an erection, 34% had difficulty maintaining an erection, 37% reported premature ejaculation, 7% had delayed ejaculation, 14% reported anorgasmia, 1% had ejaculation with a flaccid penis, 2% had pain during intercourse, 6% were dissatisfied with the frequency of intercourse, 4% were dissatisfied with their sexual partner, and 7% were dissatisfied with their performance. Conclusion: Sexual dysfunction is significantly and positively associated with duration, amount of alcohol consumed per day, and severity of alcohol dependence.

The fall armyworm Spodoptera frugiperda (J.E. Smith) is an economically important pest that recently invaded Africa and Asia; however, information regarding its biological capacity to establish itself in newly invaded environments is largely unknown. We investigated the effects of temperature on the development and survival of the invaded populations of S. frugiperda and selected mathematical models to evaluate its development in a new environment. S. frugiperda exhibited optimum survival and growth at temperatures between 28 °C and 30 °C. The lower and upper thermal thresholds for the egg-to-adult life cycle were 13.51 °C and 34.13 °C, respectively. We compared seven mathematical models and found that the Shi model was the most suitable for describing the temperature-dependent development rate of S. frugiperda. Therefore, the Shi mathematical model may be used to predict both the occurrence of particular developmental stages and the geographic distribution to implement measures for the management of S. frugiperda in agricultural fields.

The fall armyworm (FAW) Spodoptera frugiperda is an important invasive pest in Africa and Asia. It is a polyphagous pest with at least 353 recorded host plant species, including corn. Chemical control of this pest is unsuccessful because of a developed resistance and harmful effects on the environment. Entomopathogenic fungi are potential biological control agents for FAW. In this study, the native strain of Metarhizium rileyi (KNU-Ye-1), collected from a cornfield at Yeongcheon, Korea, was identified by morphological and molecular characterization. The susceptibility of the fourth-instar larvae of FAW to the native strain M. rileyi was examined in the laboratory. The results showed that the Korean strain of M. rileyi (KNU-Ye-1) was highly virulent to FAW larvae, causing 89% mortality 7 days posttreatment. Therefore, M. rileyi (KNU-Ye-1) identified in this study is highly valuable for the biological control of FAW in the field.

OBJECTIVES: The tumor microenvironment (TME) consists of cellular and noncellular components which enable the tumor to interact with its surroundings and plays an important role in the tumor progression and how the immune system reacts to the malignancy. In the present study, we investigate the diagnostic potential of the TME in differentiating benign and malignant lesions using image quantification and machine learning. METHODS: A total of 229 breast lesions and 220 cervical lymph nodes were included in the study. A group of expert radiologists first performed medical imaging and segmented the lesions, after which a rectangular mask was drawn, encompassing all of the contouring. The mask was extended in each axis up to 50%, and 29 radiomics features were extracted from each mask. Radiomics features that showed a significant difference in each contour were used to develop a support vector machine (SVM) classifier for benign and malignant lesions in breast and lymph node images separately. RESULTS: Single radiomics features extracted from extended contours outperformed radiologists' contours in both breast and lymph node lesions. Furthermore, when fed into the SVM model, the extended models also outperformed the radiologist's contour, achieving an area under the receiver operating characteristic curve of 0.887 and 0.970 in differentiating breast and lymph node lesions, respectively. CONCLUSIONS: Our results provide convincing evidence regarding the importance of the tumor periphery and TME in medical imaging diagnosis. We propose that the immediate tumor periphery should be considered for differentiating benign and malignant lesions in image quantification studies.

The fall armyworm (FAW), Spodoptera frugiperda, is an invasive pest species that has recently increased its range in most African and Asian countries, causing significant losses to crop yields, especially corn. To develop effective management strategies, it is particularly important to study the biology of FAW in various crops. Here, we utilized the age-stage, two-sex life table to examine the development, survival, and reproduction rate of the corn strain FAW on three different host plants: corn, rice, and potato. The corn strain FAW successfully completed its life cycle in rice and potato, as well as corn plants. However, the growth, developmental time, survival, and reproduction rate differed among the three host plants. The preadult survival rates in corn, rice, and potato were 92%, 81%, and 77%, respectively. Similarly, mean generation time was significantly shorter in corn (35 days), followed by rice (41 days) and potato (42 days), indicating more generations in corn. Interestingly, the net reproduction rate varied greatly among the three host plants. In corn-fed FAW, the net reproduction rate was 472 offspring per individual, whereas, in rice and potato crops, the rates were only 213 and 86 offspring per individual, respectively. Our results suggest that alternative host plants, such as potato and rice, have more effect on reproduction than the growth of corn strain FAW. These results may be useful in predicting the population dynamics of FAW and understanding the potential damage to crops, thus contributing to an appropriate management strategy in the newly FAW-invaded agricultural ecosystems.

The fall armyworm, Spodoptera frugiperda, is an important agricultural pest native to tropical and subtropical regions of the Western Hemisphere, and has invaded Africa and further spread into most countries of Asia within two years. Here, we analyzed the genetic variation of invaded populations by comparing the nucleotide sequences of two genes: the nuclear Z-chromosome linked gene triose phosphate isomerase (Tpi) and the mitochondrial gene cytochrome oxidase subunit I (COI) of 27 specimens collected in Africa (DR Congo, Tanzania, Uganda, and Zimbabwe) and Asia (Bangladesh, Korea, Nepal, and Vietnam). The results revealed that 25 specimens were from a heterogeneous hybrid (Tpi-corn strain and COI-rice strain; Tpi-C/COI-R) of the corn strain male and rice strain female, but two specimens were from a homogenous corn strain (Tpi-corn strain and COI-corn strain; Tpi-C/COI-C). The further analysis of the fourth exon and the fourth intron sequences of the Tpi gene identified at least four subgroups of the corn strain. These four genetic subgroups were identified in Africa and Asia, suggesting no significant genetic change due to the rapid migration within two years. Our study provides essential information for understanding the genetic diversity of fall armyworm in new habitats.

The fall armyworm, Spodoptera frugiperda, which is native to Central and South America, has recently invaded Africa and Asia, causing serious damage to various crops. Although management to date has been largely unsuccessful, entomopathogenic nematodes (EPNs) are a potential biological control agent that could be used to control the late larval and pupal stages of S. frugiperda that dwell under the ground. Here, we compared the virulence of seven EPNs against larval and pupal stages of S. frugiperda. In a Petri dish assay, both Heterorhabditis indica and Steinernema carpocapsae were highly virulent against younger larvae, whereas S. arenarium and S. longicaudum were highly virulent against older larvae. In contrast, H. bacteriophora, Heterorhabditis sp., and S. kushidai showed low virulence against all larval stages. In soil column and pot assays, H. indica, S. carpocapsae, and S. longicaudum were highly virulent against late larval and pupal stages compared with the other EPN species. Thus, H. indica, S. carpocapsae, and S. longicaudum are recommended for the biological control of S. frugiperda. Our study provides important information of EPNs for the practical application of biological control of fall armyworm.

BACKGROUND: Liver cancer is the 6th most common cancer in the world and the 4th most common death from cancer worldwide. Hepatic radioembolization is a minimally invasive treatment involving intraarterial administration of radioembolic microspheres. AIM: To develop a neutron-activated, biodegradable and theranostics samarium-153 acetylacetonate (153SmAcAc)-poly-L-lactic acid (PLLA) microsphere for intraarterial radioembolization of hepatic tumors. METHODS: Microspheres with different concentrations of 152SmAcAc (i.e., 100%, 150%, 175% and 200% w/w) were prepared by solvent evaporation method. The microspheres were then activated using a nuclear reactor in a neutron flux of 2 × 1012 n/cm2/s1, converting 152Sm to Samarium-153 (153Sm) via 152Sm (n, γ) 153Sm reaction. The SmAcAc-PLLA microspheres before and after neutron activation were characterized using scanning electron microscope, energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy, particle size analysis, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, thermo-gravimetric analysis and gamma spectroscopy. The in-vitro radiolabeling efficiency was also tested in both 0.9% sodium chloride solution and human blood plasma over a duration of 550 h. RESULTS: The SmAcAc-PLLA microspheres with different SmAcAc contents remained spherical before and after neutron activation. The mean diameter of the microspheres was about 35 µm. Specific activity achieved for 153SmAcAc-PLLA microspheres with 100%, 150%, 175% and 200% (w/w) SmAcAc after 3 h neutron activation were 1.7 ± 0.05, 2.5 ± 0.05, 2.7 ± 0.07, and 2.8 ± 0.09 GBq/g, respectively. The activity of per microspheres were determined as 48.36 ± 1.33, 74.10 ± 1.65, 97.87 ± 2.48, and 109.83 ± 3.71 Bq for 153SmAcAc-PLLA microspheres with 100%, 150%, 175% and 200% (w/w) SmAcAc. The energy dispersive X-ray and gamma spectrometry showed that no elemental and radioactive impurities present in the microspheres after neutron activation. Retention efficiency of 153Sm in the SmAcAc-PLLA microspheres was excellent (approximately 99%) in both 0.9% sodium chloride solution and human blood plasma over a duration of 550 h. CONCLUSION: The 153SmAcAc-PLLA microsphere is potentially useful for hepatic radioembolization due to their biodegradability, favorable physicochemical characteristics and excellent radiolabeling efficiency. The synthesis of the formulation does not involve ionizing radiation and hence reducing the complication and cost of production.

The Indian meal moth, Plodia interpunctella (Hübner) (Lepidoptera: Pyralidae), is an insect pest that commonly affects stored and postharvest agricultural products. For the control of insect pests and mites, methyl benzoate (MBe) is lethal as a fumigant and also causes contact toxicity; although it has already been established as a food-safe natural product, the fumigation toxicity of MBe has yet to be demonstrated in P. interpunctella. Herein, we evaluated MBe as a potential fumigant for controlling adults of P. interpunctella in two bioassays. Compared to the monoterpenes examined under laboratory conditions, MBe demonstrated high fumigant activity using a 1-L glass bottle at 1 µL/L air within 4 h of exposure. The median lethal concentration (LC50) of MBe was 0.1 µL/L air; the median lethal time (LT50) of MBe at 0.1, 0.3, 0.5, and 1 µL/L air was 3.8, 3.3, 2.8, and 2.0 h, respectively. Compared with commercially available monoterpene compounds used in pest control, MBe showed the highest fumigant toxicity (toxicity order as follows): MBe > citronellal > linalool > 1,8 cineole > limonene. Moreover, in a larger space assay, MBe caused 100% mortality of P. interpunctella at 0.01 µL/cm3 of air after 24 h of exposure. Therefore, MBe can be recommended for use in food security programs as an ecofriendly alternative fumigant. Specifically, it provides another management tool for curtailing the loss of stored food commodities due to P. interpunctella infestation.

New disability law called "Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act 2016" has been acted in 2016. The United Nations' Convention for Rights of Persons with Disabilities is the sole of this new act. Of the total 21 categories, three new neurological legal disability categories such as chronic neurological conditions, Parkinson disease (PD), and multiple sclerosis have been notified first time in the new act. The new guidelines have been notified in the year 2018 for evaluation and certification of specified disabilities. As a new addition in these guidelines, modified Rankin scale score has been added to measure locomotor disability of stroke. Certainly, newer guidelines have many lacunae also. There are no recommendations of any method of disability measurement associated with movement disorders such as PD, chronic neurological conditions such as migraine, epilepsy, and ataxia. The tables of older guidelines for disability calculation in conditions such as unconsciousness and epileptic fits have been removed in newer guidelines. Professional bodies should come into action immediately and do effort for rectifying these shortcomings and/or fallacies in new guidelines.

Some of us have previously reported the preparation of a dimeric form of the iron storage protein, bacterioferritin (Bfr), in which the native heme b is substituted with the photosensitizer, Zn(II)-protoporphyrin IX (ZnPP-Bfr dimer). We further showed that the ZnPP-Bfr dimer can serve as a photosensitizer for platinum-catalyzed H2 generation in aqueous solution without the usually added electron relay between photosensitizer and platinum ( Clark , E. R. , Inorg. Chem. 2017 , 56 , 4584 - 4593 ). We proposed reductive or oxidative quenching pathways involving the ZnPP anion radical (ZnPP•-) or the ZnPP cation radical, (ZnPP•+), respectively. The present report describes structural, photophysical, and photochemical properties of the ZnPP in the ZnPP-Bfr dimer. X-ray absorption spectroscopic studies at 10 K showed a mixture of five- and six-coordinated Zn centers with axial coordination by one long Zn-SγMet distance of ∼2.8 Å and ∼40% having an additional shorter Zn-S distance of ∼2.4 Å, in addition to the expected 4 nitrogen atom coordination from the porphyrin. The ZnPP in ZnPP-Bfr dimer was prone to photosensitized oxidation to ZnPP•+. The ZnPP•+ was rapidly reduced by ascorbic acid, which we previously determined was essential for photosensitized H2 production in this system. These results are consistent with an oxidative quenching pathway involving electron transfer from 3ZnPP* to platinum, which may be assisted by a flexible ZnPP axial coordination sphere. However, the low quantum yield for H2 production (∼1%) in this system could make reductive quenching difficult to detect, and can, therefore, not be completely ruled out. The ZnPP-Bfr dimer provides a simple but versatile framework for mechanistic assessment and optimization of porphyrin-photosensitized H2 generation without an electron relay between porphyrin and the platinum catalyst.

OBJECTIVE: Dry eye is a common disease with great health burden and no satisfactory treatment. Traditional Chinese medicine, an increasingly popular form of complementary medicine, has been used to treat dry eye but studies have been inconclusive. To address this issue, we conducted a randomised investigator-masked study which included the robust assessment of disease mechanisms. METHODS AND ANALYSIS: Eligible participants (total 150) were treated with artificial tear (AT) alone, with added eight sessions of acupuncture (AC) or additional daily oral herb (HB) over a month. RESULTS: Participants treated with AC were more likely to respond symptomatically than those on AT (88% vs 72%, p=0.039) with a difference of 16% (95% CI: 0.18 to 31.1). The number-to-treat with AC to achieve response in one person was 7 (3 to 157). Participants in the AC group also had reduced conjunctival redness (automatic grading with Oculus keratograph) compared with AT (p=0.043) and reduced tear T helper cell (Th1)-cytokine tumour necrosis factor α (p=0.027) and Th2-cytokine interleukin 4 concentrations (p=0.038). AC was not significantly superior to AT in other outcomes such as tear osmolarity, tear evaporation rates, corneal staining and tear break-up times. No significant adverse effects were encountered. HB was not significantly different in the primary outcome from AT (80% vs 72%, p=0.26). CONCLUSIONS: AC is safe and provides additional benefit in mild to moderate dry eye up to 1 month, compared with ATs alone. Treatment is associated with demonstrable molecular evidence of reduced inflammation. Provided that suitably qualified practitioners are available to implement standardised treatment, AC may be recommended as adjunctive therapy to AT. This study explores the effect of substitution of selenium (Se) for sulfur (S) on the photophysical properties of a series of π-conjugated donor-acceptor-donor chromophores based on 4,7-bis(2-thienyl)-2,1,3-benzothiadiazole (TBT). The effect of Se substitution is studied systematically, where the substitution is in the thiophene donors only, the benzothiadiazole acceptor only, and in all of the positions. The fluorescence quantum yield decreases with an increase in Se substitution. Nanosecond-microsecond transient absorption and singlet oxygen sensitization experiments show that the effect of Se is due to an increase in the rate and efficiency of intersystem crossing with increased Se substitution. The relationship between intersystem crossing efficiency and heteroatom substitution pattern shows that the effects are largest when the heavy atom Se is in the acceptor benzothiadiazole unit. DFT calculations support the hypothesis that the effect arises because the LUMO is concentrated in the acceptor moiety, enhancing the spin-orbit coupling effect imparted by the Se atom.

OBJECTIVES: Thermal pulsation (LipiFlow) has been advocated for meibomian gland dysfunction (MGD) treatment and was found useful. We aimed to evaluate the efficacy and safety of thermal pulsation in Asian patients with different grades of meibomian gland loss. METHODS: A hospital-based interventional study comparing thermal pulsation to warm compresses for MGD treatment. Fifty patients were recruited from the dry eye clinic of a Singapore tertiary eye hospital. The ocular surface and symptom were evaluated before treatment, and one and three months after treatment. Twenty-five patients underwent thermal pulsation (single session), whereas 25 patients underwent warm compresses (twice daily) for 3 months. Meibomian gland loss was graded using infrared meibography, whereas function was graded using the number of glands with liquid secretion. RESULTS: The mean age (SD) of participants was 56.4 (11.4) years in the warm compress group and 55.6 (12.7) years in the thermal pulsation group. Seventy-six percent of the participants were female. Irritation symptom significantly improved over 3 months in both groups (P<0.01), whereas tear breakup time (TBUT) was modestly improved at 1 month in only the thermal pulsation group (P=0.048), without significant difference between both groups over the 3 months (P=0.88). There was also no significant difference in irritation symptom, TBUT, Schirmer test, and gland secretion variables between patients with different grades of gland loss or function at follow-ups. CONCLUSIONS: A single session of thermal pulsation was similar in its efficacy and safety profile to 3 months of twice daily warm compresses in Asians. Treatment efficacy was not affected by pretreatment gland loss.

The pyrophosphate anion (PPi) plays an important role in biochemical processes. Therefore, a simple but reliable analytical technique is essential for selective detection of PPi in biochemical systems. Here, we present a principal component analysis (PCA) method for analytical determination of PPi concentration using a fluorescent conjugated polyelectrolyte (CPE) combined with a polyamine modifier. The CPE has anionic side chains and dissolves molecularly in water, as indicated by its structured fluorescence emission spectrum. However, addition of tris(3-aminoethyl)amine (tetraamine or N4) quenches the CPE fluorescence emission. Tetraamine, which is a polycation at neutral pH, binds multiple anionic CPE chains, leading to aggregate formation, resulting in aggregation-induced fluorescence quenching. Addition of PPi to the polymer-amine aggregate reverses the process, resulting in fluorescence recovery. The relatively higher concentration of PPi compared to that of the polymer allows it to effectively compete to bind the amine, thus releasing molecularly dissolved polymer chains. Fluorescence correlation spectroscopy of the P1/N4 complex and of P1/N4/PPi confirms the change in size of the CPE aggregates that occurs upon reversible aggregation. Application of PCA to the fluorescence emission data set of standard samples yields two principal components, which are used to create a predictive model for PPi analysis. The PCA method is able to directly determine the concentration of PPi with approximately 95% accuracy within the concentration range from 100 µM to 3 mM, without the need for a reference state as is typically needed for ratiometric fluorescence assays.
