RESUMEN

OBJECTIVE: The Comprehensive Coordination Scale (CCS) is a valid, reliable scale for evaluating motor coordination, described as the ability to produce context-dependent movements of multiple body parts in both spatial and temporal domains in patients with chronic stroke. The aim of this study was to develop a Turkish version of the CCS that can be used to evaluate coordination in Parkinson's disease patients and to test its validity and reliability. METHODS: Thirty-four patients with Parkinson's disease (18 females, 16 males) with a mean age of 67.55± 10.93 years were included. The 9-Hole Peg Test (9 HPT), Timed Up and Go Test (TUG), Berg Balance Scale (BBS), Functional Reach Test (FRT), and Modified Hoehn and Yahr (H&Y) were administered to the patients. RESULTS: In the correlation analysis for convergent validity, the CCS-TR showed a moderate negative correlation with both the 9 HPT and the TUG test (r=-0.684 and -0.641, respectively). There were also moderate positive correlations observed between the CCS-TR and the FRT and BBS (r=0.607 and 0.657, respectively). The total CCS-TR had excellent intrarater reliability (ICC=0.99; 95 % CI: 0.98-0.99) and interrater reliability (ICC=0.90; 95 % CI: 0.81-0.95). The CCS-TR subscales had excellent intrarater reliability (ICC: range 0.98 from 0.99). For intrarater agreement, the ICC was 0.99, and for interrater agreement, the ICC was 0.90 (excellent agreement). CONCLUSION: The results of the present study indicate that the Turkish version of the CCS is a reliable and valid coordination scale that can be used in patients with Parkinson's disease.

PURPOSE: To develop the Turkish version of the Health Care Providers' Pain and Impairment Relationship Scale (HC-PAIRS-TR) by conducting the linguistic and cultural adaptation and to examine the psychometric properties and reliability of the adapted version. METHODS: A double back-translation procedure was used to translate the questionnaire. Participants received an online survey package with the HC-PAIRS-TR, the Turkish version of Pain Attitudes and Beliefs Scale for Physiotherapists (PABS-PT-TR), and Turkish Version of the Tampa Scale for Kinesiophobia (TSK-TR). Cronbach's alpha coefficient and item analysis were used to evaluate internal consistency. Intraclass correlation coefficient (ICC) was used to determine the test-retest reliability. Confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) and Rasch Analysis were performed. RESULTS: The study was conducted with 153 physiotherapists practicing in Turkey. Cronbach's alpha was 0.81. Test-retest reliability was high (ICC = 0.85, p < 0.001), the standard error of measurement was 4.96 (0.94% of mean), and minimal detectable change was 13.75 (26.06% of mean). HC-PAIRS-TR scores correlated significantly with scores for the biomedical factor of the PABS-PT-TR (r = 0.52, p = 0.00), biopsychosocial factor of PABS-PT-TR (r = 0.32, p = 0.00), and TSK-TR (r = 0.52, p = 0.00). According to CFA and Rasch Analysis, the 12 items version of HC-PAIRS-TR fits the one-factor model excellently. CONCLUSION: The HC-PAIRS-TR appears to be a reliable and valid questionnaire to measure Turkish physiotherapists' beliefs and attitudes about the relationship between low back pain and impairment. Future studies might be planned to validate this questionnaire for other health care providers.

OBJECTIVE: To investigate the effects of lower limb flexibility on the functional performance of children with Duchenne muscular dystrophy. METHODS: Thirty children, whose functional levels were at 1 or 2 according to the Brooke Lower Extremity Functional Classification Scale, were included in this study. The flexibilities of the hamstrings, hip flexors, tensor fascia latae, and gastrocnemius muscles were evaluated in the children's dominant lower limbs. The children's functional performance was assessed using 6-minute walk tests and timed performance tests. The correlations between the flexibilities of the lower limb muscles and the performance tests were examined. RESULTS: The flexibilities of the lower extremity muscles were found to be correlated to the 6-minute walk tests and the timed performance tests. The flexibility of the hamstrings (r = -.825), the gastrocnemius muscles (r = .545), the hip flexors (r = .481), and the tensor fascia latae (r = .445) were found to be correlated with functional performance as measured by the 6-minute walk tests (P < .05). DISCUSSION: The results of the current study indicate that the flexibility of the lower limbs has an effect on functional performance in the early stages of Duchenne muscular dystrophy. More research is needed to determine the functional effects of flexibility on performance by adding long-term flexibility exercises to the physiotherapy programs of children with Duchenne muscular dystrophy.
