RESUMEN

AIM: This study aimed to examine the relationship between internalized stigma and happiness levels of individuals diagnosed with schizophrenia. METHOD: This cross-sectional study was conducted between March and June 2021 with 100 individuals diagnosed with schizophrenia conducted in a Community Mental Health Centre in the Eastern Black Sea region of Turkey. Data were collected using Internalized Stigma of Mental Illness and the Oxford Happiness Questionnaire. RESULTS: A negative statistically significant relationship was determined between the Internalized Stigma of Mental Illness and Oxford Happiness Questionnaire. In addition, there was a positive correlation between the stigma resistance subdimension of the Internalized Stigma of Mental Illness and Oxford Happiness Questionnaire. The internalized stigma levels of the participating patients accounted for 35.1% of their happiness levels. The stigma resistance subdimension of the Internalized Stigma of Mental Illness scale affected the patients' happiness levels. CONCLUSION: There was a negative significant relationship between the individuals' internalized stigma and happiness levels. More comprehensive interventions are needed to combat the stigma of mental disorders in Türkiye so that individuals diagnosed with schizophrenia can lead a happy life in society.

RESUMEN

The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship between values and psychological resilience in individuals with substance use disorder. This descriptive and correlational study was conducted with 70 individuals diagnosed with substance use disorder who had applied to the Alcohol and Drug Addiction Treatment and Research Center between February and April 2022 and volunteered to participate in the study. The data were collected using the Personal Information Form, Values Scale, and Brief Resilience Scale (BRS). All participants were male, the average age of substance use onset was 17.67 ± 5.95 years, and they had been receiving addiction treatment for 1.97 ± 2.30 years on average. The average total score of the individuals on the BRS scale was 17.18 ± 1.45. A significant positive correlation was found between the social values, intellectual values, spiritual values, materialistic values, human dignity, and freedom sub-dimensions of the Values Scale and psychological resilience (p < .001). Additionally, spiritual values were found to have the highest positive effect on the psychological resilience levels of individuals (B = 0.185; p < .05). Individuals with higher levels of social values, intellectual values, spiritual values, materialistic values, human dignity, and freedom were found to have higher psychological resilience. Nursing care provided by taking into account the values of the individual and strengthening their values may contribute to the psychological resilience of the patient.

UNLABELLED: Abstract Background: Gossip is important for managers to control it and to use it to create positive effects that help organizations to attain their goals. OBJECTIVES/AIM: The study utilized a descriptive model to determine how nurses use gossip as an informal communication channel in organizational communication. METHOD: Nurses working in four hospitals within a city in the eastern part of Turkey form the population of the study whereas nurses who agreed to participate in the study form the sample. Among these hospitals, two of them serve under the Ministry of Health while two serve under a university; diagnosis, treatment and rehabilitation services in any field are provided in each of these hospitals. The researchers developed a questionnaire for data collection after examining the literature. The approval of the ethical committees and written official permissions were obtained for the study. Data were acquired from 264 out of 420 nurses in total. Data were collected between June and September 2011. The response rate to the data collection tool was 62.8%. Subsequently, data were analyzed by frequency and percentage distribution tests with SPSS for Windows 17.0. RESULTS: This study determined that nurses uses gossip most frequently about working conditions to share information face-to-face when they feel angry. CONCLUSION: The study concluded that nurses use gossip as an informal communication style in their institutions.
