CO2 emissions have become a topical issue worldwide, but few studies have considered the spatial effect of income on carbon emissions and explored the relationship between CO2 emissions and income by establishing direct, indirect, and total environmental Kuznets curves (EKCs). Using an annual panel dataset collected over the 1997-2017 period in China, this study first analyzed the spatiotemporal evolutionary process of CO2 emissions and subsequently developed direct, indirect, and total EKC-based spatial Durbin model (SDM) and partial derivative approach. These results indicate that, first, CO2 emissions have characteristic positive spatial autocorrelation, with gravity centers that have shifted westward. Second, the direct EKC forms a line, while the total EKC resembles a lying-S shape as well as the total EKC, which indicates that compared to local economic growth, neighboring growth plays a very different role in impacting local CO2 emissions. Furthermore, neighboring economic growth seems to have stronger impacts on local emissions, and the turning point of the total EKC comes much earlier than that of the conventional EKC due to the spillover effects of economic growth. Finally, the growth of the population, as well as the rise of energy intensity, can stimulate CO2 emissions in both local and neighboring regions. Industrialization seems to have a nonsignificant impact on emission changes due to the offsetting effects of the positive direct and negative indirect impacts of the share of secondary industry. Improvements in local urbanization may lead to an increase in emissions, while neighboring improvements may have stronger restricting effects; thus, urbanization improvement is beneficial to emissions reduction. This study provides more scientific information from both local and neighboring perspectives, which may differ from conventional results but still be beneficial for emissions reduction policy-makers to introduce corresponding measures.

This study investigated information spillovers across crude oil time series at different time scales, using a network combined with a wavelet transform. It can detect the oil price, which plays an important role in the dynamic process of spillovers, and it can also analyze the dynamic feature of systematic risk based on entropy at different scales. The results indicate that the network structure changes with time, and the important roles of an oil price can be identified. WTI and Brent act as important spillover transmitters, and other prices are important spillover receivers at a scale. With the increase in time scale, both the number of neighbors and the importance of spillovers of Brent and WTI as spillover transmitters show downward trends. The importance for spillovers of China-Shengli and Dubai as spillover receivers shows a downward trend. This paper provides new evidence for explaining WTI and Brent as global benchmark oil prices. In addition, systematic risk is time-varying, and it is smaller at short-term scale than at long-term scale. The trend of systematic risk is also discussed when typical oil-related events occur. This paper provides a new perspective for exploring dynamic spillovers and systematic risk that offers important implications for policymakers and market investors.

This paper uses the entropy method to estimate China's green financial development from four aspects, namely, green credit, green securities, green insurance, and green investment, based on the provincial-level panel data from 2008 to 2019. The spatial Durbin model (SDM) is adopted to estimate the spatial effect of green finance on carbon emissions. We then compare the heterogeneous effect in the South and North of China. The results show that China's green financial development can significantly reduce carbon emissions, and regional heterogeneities are obvious. In the South of China, this effect from local and adjacent regions is not significant, while on the whole, green finance can significantly reduce carbon emissions; but for Northern China, this effect is not significant; nationally, the development of green finance and carbon emissions in adjacent areas showed an inverted U-shaped relationship. China's green financial development and carbon emissions also showed an inverted U-shaped relationship. These results suggest that the effect of green finance development on carbon emissions exhibits substantial regional heterogeneity in China. Our paper provides some concrete empirical evidence for policymakers to formulate green financial policies to achieve the double carbon goal in China.

Miniature inverted-repeat transposable elements (MITEs) are a group of class II transposable elements. The MITE Monkey King (MK) was first discovered upstream of BnFLC.A10. In this study, genome resequencing of four selected B. napus accessions, revealed more than 4000 distributed copies of MKs constituting ~2.4 Mb of the B. napus genomic sequence and caused 677 polymorphisms among the four accessions. MK -polymorphism-related markers across 128 natural and 58 synthetic accessions revealed more polymorphic MKs in natural than synthetic accessions. Ten MK -induced indels significantly affected the expression levels of the nearest gene based on RNAseq analysis, six of these effects were subsequently confirmed using qRT-PCR. Decreased expression pattern of MK -derived miRNA-bna-miR6031 was also observed under various stress treatments. Further research focused on the MITE families should promote not only our understanding of gene regulatory networks but also inform crop improvement efforts.

Heteroscedasticity of time series is an important issue addressed in relation to the nonlinearity and complexity of time series. Previous studies have focused on time series heteroscedasticity during a long-term period but have rarely analyzed it from a nonlinear dynamic perspective. This paper proposes a new model for converting a time series into a complex network. Our proposed model can examine not only the heteroscedasticity of a short-term series but also the dynamic evolution process of this heteroscedasticity. Using four typical crude oil time series as sample data, we construct four networks. A network node denotes the types of fluctuation patterns corresponding to the symbolization of the heteroscedastic features of a short-term fluctuation series based on the autoregressive generalized autoregressive conditional heteroscedasticity model, and a weighted edge represents the evolution direction and frequency between two patterns. Our findings show that the choice of the length of a short-term period depends on the diversity of these patterns. The identification of the nodes with greater out-strength or greater betweenness centrality can help us to understand the different roles of fluctuation patterns in the evolution process. We propose a method for predicting the most probable target nodes from a source node. The analysis of clustering effects can help in detecting the fluctuation patterns between different clusters. This paper investigates the evolution dynamic mechanism of the heteroscedastic features of a short-term time series, which can help researchers and investors deeply understand the dynamic process of time series.

MAIN CONCLUSION: This review will provide evidence for the indispensable function of these elements in regulating plant development and resistance to biotic and abiotic stresses, as well as their evolutionary role in facilitating plant adaptation. Over millions of years of evolution, plant genomes have acquired a complex constitution. Plant genomes consist not only of protein coding sequences, but also contain large proportions of non-coding sequences. These include introns of protein-coding genes, and intergenic sequences such as non-coding RNA, repeat sequences and transposable elements. These non-coding sequences help to regulate gene expression, and are increasingly being recognized as playing an important role in genome organization and function. In this review, we summarize the known molecular mechanisms by which gene expression is regulated by several species of non-coding RNAs (microRNAs, long non-coding RNAs, and circular RNAs) and by transposable elements. We further discuss how these non-coding RNAs and transposable elements evolve and emerge in the genome, and the potential influence and importance of these non-coding RNAs and transposable elements in plant development and in stress responses.

Pinellia ternata tuber is one of the well-known Chinese traditional medicines. In order to understand the pharmacological properties of tuber proteins, it is necessary to perform proteome analysis of P. ternata tubers. However, a few high-abundance proteins (HAPs), mainly mannose-binding lectin (agglutinin), exist in aggregates of various sizes in the tubers and seriously interfere with proteome profiling by two-dimensional electrophoresis (2-DE). Therefore, selective depletion of these HAPs is a prerequisite for enhanced proteome analysis of P. ternata tubers. Based on differential protein solubility, we developed a novel protocol involving two sequential extractions for depletion of some HAPs and prefractionation of tuber proteins prior to 2-DE. The first extraction using 10% acetic acid selectively extracted acid-soluble HAPs and the second extraction using the SDS-containing buffer extracted remaining acid-insoluble proteins. After application of the protocol, 2-DE profiles of P. ternata tuber proteins were greatly improved and more protein spots were detected, especially low-abundance proteins. Moreover, the subunit composition of P. ternata lectin was analyzed by electrophoresis. Native lectin consists of two hydrogen-bonded subunits (11 kDa and 25 kDa) and the 11 kDa subunit was a glycoprotein. Subsequently, major HAPs in the tubers were analyzed by mass spectrometry, with nine protein spots being identified as lectin isoforms. The methodology was easy to perform and required no specialized apparatus. It would be useful for proteome analysis of other tuber plants of Araceae.
