RESUMEN

AIM: Study the main surface parameters of milled polyacrylic materials using atomic force microscopy and primary microbial adhesion of periodontopathogenic group bacteria and Candida albicans fungi taking into consideration the method of sample polishing. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Studied samples: mill-treated without polishing (control); ergobox polished; polished in dental laboratory conditions; polished by a rubber brush in dentists' office. Microbial strains belonging to periodontopathogenic species (clinical isolates) that had been isolated from periodontal pockets of periodontitis patients: Porphyromonas gingivalis, Fusobacterium nucleatum, Streptococcus sanguis, C. albicans fungi were used for modelling experiments of primary adhesion of microbes to the material samples. RESULTS: S. sanguis had the highest degree of adhesion to polymer after milling, P. gingivalis, C. albicans--medium, F. nucleatum--low. A significant reduction of adhesion is observed during polishing in dental laboratory conditions or ergobox, less significant--during polishing in dental office. CONCLUSION: The data obtained allow to make a conclusion that the samples from polymer materials for preparation of prosthesis basis have varying degree of intensity of microbial adhesion of members of periodontopathogenic microflora and C. albicans fungi that depends on the polishing method, that accordingly determined the differences in colonization resistance against formation of microbial biofilm during polymer use in clinical conditions. . ,

RESUMEN

The article presents the experience of using medical dressings of combined action based on antibiotic Spiramycin and antiseptic Triclosan. Investigation and treatment of 79 patients with moderate chronic periodontitis proved the given drug formulation to be highly clinically effective for local treatment of periodontal disease.

RESUMEN

Forty-six patients (20 male and 26 female, age 45-76) with temporary dental prosthesis were followed-up both clinically and microbiologically. The results of quantitative and qualitative assessment proved biofilm formed on acrylic resin to be potentially more aggressive because of high incidence and significant number of virulent germs as well as yeast-like Candida fungal. Laboratory polished polyurethane samples showed much lower colonization by virulent germs and Candida fungal. After biofilm stabilization PCR revealed twice-fold less incidence of virulent germs on polyurethane when compared to other tested materials.

RESUMEN

An experimental and clinical study was carried out on 76 patients with implant-supported restorations in the posterior zones of the lower jaw, divided in two groups (with no signs of bone resorption around the implants and with resorption signs) and one control group. The results of the study allowed optimizing the angulation of dental implants, providing an opportunity for individual positioning of dental implant in the mandible depending on the direction of functional load.

RESUMEN

Results of comparative use of different type lasers for surgical treatment of patients with medium severity level of periodontitis were presented: group 1--erbium laser "Waterlaser Millennium" (41 people); group 2--diode laser "LS-0,97 - IRE-Polyus" (25 people); group 3--carbon dioxide laser "СО2-laser LST - 20/01 Lantset" (21 people). Patients of the comparative group undergone a traditional surgical curettage (30 people). A PCR-diagnostic was made to all patients that were sent to ambulatory surgical treatment. It revealed carriage of 1 to 4 types of periodontium pathogenic bacteria that present ed threat from the point of view of infectious complications development in the postoperative period. After using laser technologies an increase of periodontium pathogenic species eradication frequency was registered (А. actinomycetemcomitans, T. forsithia, P. gingivalis, P. intermedia, T. denticola): up to 60, 58 and 60%--for erbium, diode and carbon dioxide correspondingly.

RESUMEN

The objective of this work was to develop forensic medical criteria for the diagnostics of chronic alcoholic intoxication based on the measurement of bone mineral density in the postcranial skeleton and periodontal complex. The stomatological status of 380 subjects was evaluated. Two hundred patients regularly consumed alcohol (group 1) and 180 ones practically did not use it (group 2). The stomatological status was evaluated based on the simplified oral hygiene index (OHI-s), the decayed, missing and filled teeth (DMF) index, periodontal index (P1) and the papilla bleeding index (PBI). Bone mineral density was measured by X-ray two-photon absorptiometry. The study demonstrated the relationship between variations of the stomatological status and alcohol abuse. Chronic alcoholic intoxication was associated with marked changes of the stomatological status and the loss of bone mineral density that correlated with the results of the orthopantomographic study. It is concluded that the above observations should be taken into consideration in the practical work of forensic medical experts as additional diagnostic criteria of chronic alcoholic intoxication and alcohol-related death.

RESUMEN

According as the loss of mineral bone density (MBD) of peripheral skeleton grows parodontal lesion heaviness increase was demonstrated. Strong negative correlations between API and PBI indices, as well as middle negative correlations between PI index and degree loss of MBD of peripheral skeleton were disclosed. In patients with osteoporosis chronic generalized parodontitis (CGP) was found more frequently when compared with patients not suffering from CGP (41,5 against 12,5% correspondingly).

RESUMEN

Angulometric teleroentgenographic characteristics of teeth were compared for 158 subjects. A computer technology of calculation and assessment of 47 angular (quantitative) parameters characterizing spatial position of the teeth and jaws is proposed. This complex of parameters can be used as an additional test in personal identification.

RESUMEN

327 patients with dentures supported by 318 pulpless teeth reinforced by pin constructions were under observation. Main types of complications after pin use were identified. By math simulation the system "covering construction-artificial stump-root pin-root of the tooth" was studied for teeth 11, 13, 15, 16, 41, 43, 45, 46 in two projections--vestibulo-oral and mesio-distal. Margins of strength properties of teeth armed by special pin constructions (made as individual casting) and artificial stump with standard pins made of different materials were determined. Optimal parameters of height and width of off-root part and intra-root pin sizes in different teeth groups in conformity with their individual anatomic peculiarities were established.

RESUMEN

Postoperative tooth stump is not able to endure usual functional loads adequately that leads to enhanced resorption of bone tissues surrounding root and loss of the tooth. Based on math computer simulation of mode of deformation of biomechanical model "metal-ceramic construction--endodontic-endoosseous implant (EEI)--stump of operated tooth--bone tissue of the jaw" new domestic EEI parameters were elaborated which improved greatly biomechanical properties of tooth with operated roots. Strength characteristics of new EEI were studied. A set of instruments for EEI was developed.

RESUMEN

Some causes of ineffective dental care because of the patient's negligence were analyzed. In 16 cases the patients ignored recommendations of the dentist and missed visits to the doctor. As a result, the patients developed complications leading to esthetic dissatisfaction, prolonged treatment, repeated prosthetic management.

RESUMEN

A total of 974 patients with suspected abnormalities of the temporomandibular joint (TMJ) were examined; diseases were detected in 371 patients. The test group consisted of 40 patients, control group of 18 patients. Analysis of the results of graphic recording of mandibular movements and clinical x-ray data in patients of the main and control groups helped develop the strategy for the diagnosis of TMJ dysfunction, based on the functional methods of examination (oral functionography and non-oral axiography).
