RESUMEN

The laboratory verified cases of Crimean-Congo hemorrhagic fever (CCHF) in the piedmont steppes of the North Caucasus (Malgobeksky District, Republic of Ingushetia) are first described. The source of the first infection was Ixodidae ticks; three subsequent sources were contacts with the bloody discharges from patients. CCHF virus genome was detected in the blood of the cattle from an epidemic focus and in the pools of the Ixodes ticks Haemaphysalis parva Neum., 1897 and Boophilus annulatus Say, 1821, taken from cattle. The problem of including the piedmont steppes of the North Caucasus into the CCHF nosological area is discussed.

RESUMEN

Information on the sanitary and epidemiological situation and water supply in the Republic of Ingushetia during the period before and after the emergency situation (high flood) is presented. The results of epidemiological observations on the territory of the Republic of Ingushetia for the period of June 22 to the end of the year 2002 indicate that no considerable rise in infectious morbidity, as well as outbreaks of natural focal infections, was noted. This suggests that, in spite of the complicated sanitary and epidemiological situation before the emergency situation (due to the vicinity of the conflict in the Chechen Republic, the intensive migration of the population and the presence of a large of refugees on the territory of the Republic of Ingushetia) and its sharp deterioration caused by the high flood, the timely realization of a complex of sanitary and prophylactic measures made it possible to avoid the wide spread of infectious diseases.

RESUMEN

The epidemiological situation in tuberculosis in the Republic of Ingushetia is evaluated. The unsatisfactory sanitary and hygienic state of camps for migrants (persons, forced to quit the place of their permanent residence), has been found to create favorable conditions for the spread of tuberculosis. Recommendations on the improvement of the organization and carrying out of measures for controlling tuberculosis among both temporarily displaced persons and the local population, as well as on the improvement of the material base of the laboratory diagnostics of tuberculosis, are proposed.

RESUMEN

Information on the recent sanitary and epidemiological situation in the Republic of Ingushetia is presented. In some years an almost twofold growth in the number of population was registered in the republic due to the mass influx of temporarily displaced persons. Such factors as excessive population density, the absence of conditions for the observation of elementary sanitary and hygienic norms, malnutrition, complications with the supply of drinking water meeting sanitary norms contribute to the possibility of epidemic complications. The data on the state of water supply and sewage in populated localities and on the state of morbidity in infectious diseases are presented. By the year 2000 the aggravation of the epidemiological situation in viral hepatitis A and tuberculosis took place. Morbidity in acute enteric infections somewhat increased. There is the danger of the appearance of some infections from the natural foci.
