RESUMEN

Large-scale transcriptome analysis can provide a systems-level understanding of biological processes. To accelerate functional genomic studies in chickpea, we perform a comprehensive transcriptome analysis to generate full-length transcriptome and expression atlas of protein-coding genes (PCGs) and long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs) from 32 different tissues/organs via deep sequencing. The high-depth RNA-seq dataset reveal expression dynamics and tissue-specificity along with associated biological functions of PCGs and lncRNAs during development. The coexpression network analysis reveal modules associated with a particular tissue or a set of related tissues. The components of transcriptional regulatory networks (TRNs), including transcription factors, their cognate cis-regulatory motifs, and target PCGs/lncRNAs that determine developmental programs of different tissues/organs, are identified. Several candidate tissue-specific and abiotic stress-responsive transcripts associated with quantitative trait loci that determine important agronomic traits are also identified. These results provide an important resource to advance functional/translational genomic and genetic studies during chickpea development and environmental conditions.

Mulberry is an important crop plant for the sericulture industry. Here, we report high-quality genome sequence of a cultivated Indian mulberry (Morus indica cv K2) obtained by combining data from four different technologies, including Illumina, single-molecule real-time sequencing, chromosome conformation capture and optical mapping, with a gene completeness of 96.5%. Based on the genome sequence, we identified 49.2% of repetitive DNA and 27,435 high-confidence protein-coding genes with >90% of them supported by transcript evidence. A comparative analysis with other plant genomes identified 4.8% of species-specific genes in the M. indica genome. Transcriptome profiling revealed tissue-specific and differential expression across multiple accessions of ~4.7% and 2-5% of protein-coding genes, respectively, implicated in diverse biological processes. Whole genome resequencing of 21 accessions/species revealed ~2.5 million single nucleotide polymorphisms and ~ 0.2 million insertions/deletions. These data and results provide a comprehensive resource to accelerate the genomics research in mulberry for its improvement.

Oryza coarctata is a wild relative of rice that has adapted to diverse ecological environments, including high salinity and submergence. Thus, it can provide an important resource for discovering candidate genes/factors involved in tolerance to these stresses. Here, we report a draft genome assembly of 573 Mb comprised of 8877 scaffolds with N50 length of 205 kb. We predicted a total of 50,562 protein-coding genes, of which a significant fraction was found to be involved in secondary metabolite biosynthesis and hormone signal transduction pathways. Several salinity and submergence stress-responsive protein-coding and long noncoding RNAs involved in diverse biological processes were identified using RNA-sequencing data. Based on small RNA sequencing, we identified 168 unique miRNAs and 3219 target transcripts (coding and noncoding) involved in several biological processes, including abiotic stress responses. Further, whole genome bisulphite sequencing data analysis revealed at least 19%-48% methylcytosines in different sequence contexts and the influence of methylation status on gene expression. The genome assembly along with other datasets have been made publicly available at http://ccbb.jnu.ac.in/ory-coar. Altogether, we provide a comprehensive genomic resource for understanding the regulation of salinity and submergence stress responses and identification of candidate genes/factors involved for functional genomics studies.

Posterior reversible encephalopathy syndrome (PRES) is a neurotoxic state often characterized by altered mental state and is seen in various clinical settings. Although it is often reversible, it may result in long term sequelae. The typical and atypical neuroimaging findings seen in PRES have been previously well-described in the literature. However, the presence of other co-existing intracranial lesions along with PRES can occasionally confound the imaging findings and poses a diagnostic challenge. Herein, the authors report four cases of PRES with etiologically different co-existing intracranial lesions confounding the clinical and imaging manifestations. When presented with atypical imaging findings in PRES, the possibility of a co-existing intracranial pathology with superimposed imaging findings should be considered.

OBJECTIVES: Diffuse axonal injury is one of the major causes of unconsciousness, profound neurologic deficits and persistent vegetative state after head trauma. In recent years, MR imaging has been gaining popularity as an adjunctive imaging method in patients with DAI. Our study aims to assess the relative diagnostic and prognostic capability of various MRI sequences. PATIENTS AND METHODS: Retrospective observational study done in 1 year duration on 30 DAI patients. Clinical assessment done with GCS at admission and GOS at 6 month. MRI Brain FLAIR, DWI, T2*GRE AND SWI sequences taken. DAI grade were evaluated for different MRI sequences. Prognosis was correlated to total number of lesion/locations and DAI grade of patients. Statistical analysis was done using SPSS Statistical software (ver.20.0.0) and XL-Stat and ANOVA one way test, post hoc test (Turkey test) and Chi square test. RESULT: We studied 30 male patients, mean age 32.57±8.72 ranges. The commonest mode of injury is RTA-80%, fall-16% followed by assault-3.33%. Out of 30 patients, 17 patients (56.67%) had GCS <=8, 13 patients (43.33%) had GCS between 9 and 12 and no patient had a GCS score between 13 and 15. The mean GCS score was 8.47±1.50. At a 6 month follow up, out of a total of 30 patients, 2 patients (6.66%) expired (GOS-1), 3 patients (10%) remained in persistent vegetative state (GOS-2), 11 patients (36.67%) and 10 patients (33.33%) were found to be severely (GOS-3) and moderately (GOS-4) disabled respectively and 4 patients (13.33%) showed good recovery (GOS-5). Mean GOS is 3.37+/-1.06. Newer imaging -SWI able to detects lesion better (diagnosis of DAI) as compared to other older sequences like FLAIR,DWI,T2*GRE. But no statistically significant found between total number of lesion/locations to the outcome and also newer imaging do not change the grade of DAI patients. CONCLUSION: Although advanced imaging in head injury, SWI helps in diagnosing the diffuse axonal injury more efficiently than other imaging sequences, but it is the grade of patients at admission that predicts the outcome best.

RESUMEN

Spinal epidural haematomas (SEH) is a potentially reversible cause of spinal cord and nerve root compression which needs prompt surgical decompression for satisfactory neurological recovery. SEH occurs very rarely in pregnant woman with HELLP syndrome (hemolysis, elevated liver enzyme levels, and low platelet levels). Most of the SEH cases reported in HELLP syndrome in the literature are due to iatrogenic interventions. We report a still rarer case of non traumatic spinal epidural haematoma in a pregnant woman with HELLP Syndrome.

RESUMEN

A 10-year-old boy presented with left-sided nasal obstruction and epistaxis. Endoscopic evaluation revealed a polypoid mass in the vestibule arising from the lateral wall of the nasal cavity anteroinferior to the left inferior turbinate. Computed tomography (CT) scan showed a soft tissue opacity in the vestibule of the left nasal cavity. After the endoscopic excision of the mass, postoperative and histopathological analyses confirmed the diagnosis of an angiofibroma.
