Objectives: To investigate the factors associated with the willingness to know the serological status for syphilis among higher education students. Methods: A cross-sectional and analytical study was conducted with higher education students in Portugal. Data collection was carried out through an online questionnaire. The data were analyzed using Poisson logistic regression with robust variance, utilizing SPSS-24. Results: A total of 413 students were included, the majority of whom were female, with an average age of 20.5 years, and enrolled in health-related courses. Behavioral vulnerabilities such as not using condoms and using alcohol/other drugs were observed; there was also a low-risk perception and poor knowledge about syphilis. Less than half of the students were willing to undergo the syphilis test. Conclusions: Adherence to syphilis screening was low and associated with uncommon factors such as lower knowledge, low risk perception, younger age, fewer sexual partnerships, and enrollment in courses outside the health field.


Objetivos: Investigar los factores asociados con la disposición a conocer el estado serológico para sífilis entre estudiantes de educación superior. Métodos: Estudio transversal y analítico realizado con estudiantes de educación superior en Portugal. La recogida de datos se realizó a través de un cuestionario en línea. Los datos se analizaron mediante regresión logística de Poisson con varianza robusta, utilizando SPSS-24. Resultados: Se incluyeron 413 estudiantes, la mayoría del sexo femenino, la edad promedio fue de 20,5 años y matriculados en carreras de salud. Observar vulnerabilidades de comportamiento como no usar condones y consumir alcohol u otras drogas; baja percepción de riesgo y escaso conocimiento sobre la sífilis. Menos de la mitad de los estudiantes estaban dispuestos a realizar la prueba de sífilis. Conclusiones: La adherencia al tamizaje de sífilis fue baja y se asoció con factores obvios como menor conocimiento, baja percepción de riesgo, menor edad y número de parejas sexuales y asistencia a cursos en áreas distintas a la salud.


Objetivos: Investigar os fatores associados à disposição para conhecer o estado sorológico para a sífilis entre estudantes do ensino superior. Métodos: Estudo transversal e analítico realizado com estudantes do ensino superior de Portugal. A coleta de dados ocorreu por meio de questionário on- line. Os dados foram analisados pela regressão logística de Poisson com variância robusta, utilizando o SPSS-24. Resultados: Incluídos 413 estudantes, maioria do sexo feminino, idade média de 20,5 anos e matriculada em cursos de saúde. Observou -se vulnerabilidades comportamentais como não uso do preservativo e uso de álcool/outras drogas; baixa percepção de risco e conhecimento ruim sobre sífilis. Menos da metade dos estudantes se dispuseram a realizar o teste para sífilis. Conclusões: A adesão ao rastreio para sífilis foi baixa e associada a fatores incomuns como menor conhecimento, baixa percepção de risco, menor idade e número de parcerias sexuais e frequentar cursos de áreas diferentes da saúde.

Objective: To analyze the effectiveness of an educational intervention among nursing professionals and caregivers to prevent urinary tract infections in institutionalized elderly people. Methods: this is a quasi-experimental study carried out with 20 people (7 nurses and 13 formal caregivers). A questionnaire was applied during the pre-intervention stage, then professional training was carried out and finally, the questionnaire was reapplied 6 months after the intervention. The prevalence profile and factors associated with urinary infections in 116 elderly people was evaluated before and after the educational interventions. Statistical analysis was performed using association and correlation tests, logistic regression model comparison and prevalence rates. Results: The average number of correct answers by the nursing professionals and caregivers after the educational intervention increased from the pre to the post-test by 52% regarding signs of urinary infection, 32% regarding its symptoms, 72.5% regarding its treatment, 40% regarding personal/behavioral and morbidity-related risk factors, 59% regarding conditional factors and 43.8% regarding its preventive measures. The team of caregivers showed a greater gain in knowledge compared to the nursing team in almost every question (p<0.05). The length of time working in elderly care showed no positive correlation with any variable (R< p>0.05). The prevalence of urinary tract infection in the pre-intervention period was 33.62%, and 20% in the post-intervention period. Conclusion: The educational intervention was effective in preventing urinary tract infections in the elderly. The increased knowledge acquired by nurses and caregivers was associated with a reduction in the infection rate and an improvement in the most prevalent modifiable factors for the development of this type of pathology.

OBJECTIVES: to assess the physical and mental components of nursing professionals' quality of life and associate them with individual, health and work characteristics. METHODS: cross-sectional research, with nursing professionals from a university hospital in São Paulo. Own questionnaire and validated instruments were applied. RESULTS: the overall quality of life was compromised. The physical component was lower in relation to low family income and among those who perceived greater control/pressure at work, and better for those who practiced physical activity and had support of leader and organization. The mental component was lower in professionals who reported dissatisfaction with work, worse self-rated physical health and were older. Scores for both components reduced due to work-related illnesses, worse work ability and increased daytime sleepiness. CONCLUSIONS: quality of life was statistically associated with controllable institutional factors and individual resources that, except age, can be promoted.

Objetivo: Verificar associação entre a percepção de risco para infecções sexualmente transmissíveis e variáveis sociocomportamentais de universitários. Métodos: Estudo transversal, realizado com 655 estudantes de ensino superior. A amostragem foi probabilística por conglomerados. Utilizou-se um questionário estruturado para coleta de dados. A análise estatística foi realizada no Statistical Package for Social Sciences. Resultados: Maioria do sexo feminino, com média de 23 anos de idade, cor não branca, solteira/separada e de religião católica. Houve associação significativa entre percepção de risco e a idade, religião, orientação sexual, idade da sexarca, realização do teste do Vírus da Imunodeficiência Humana, número de parcerias e uso de preservativo com parceiro fixo. Conclusão: Foi possível confirmar que a percepção de risco é realmente uma variável importante, e que, a sua ausência pode ser um fator determinante para adoção de comportamentos considerados arriscados para aquisição de infecções sexualmente transmissíveis, como maior número de parcerias sexuais e baixa adesão ao preservativo. Objective: to verify the existence of an association between the perception of risk and socio-behavioral variables of university students. Methods: Cross-sectional study with 655 students of higher education. Sampling was probabilistic by clusters; A structured questionnaire was used for data collection. Statistical analysis was performed in the Statistical Package for Social Sciences. Results: The majority were female, with a mean age of 23 years, non-white, single / separated / widowed and Catholic. There was a significant association between risk perception and gender, age, religion, sexual orientation, sexarche age, Human Immunodeficiency Virus testing, number of sexual partnerships and condom use with a fixed partner. Conclusion: It was possible to confirm that risk perception is a really important variable and the lack of it can be a determining factor for the adoption of risky behaviors associated with the acquisition of sexually transmitted infections, like greater number of sexual partnerships and low adherence to condoms. Objetivo: Verificar la existencia de asociación entre la percepción del riesgo y variables de comportamiento de la universidad colaboradora. Métodos: Estudio cuantitativo, analítico realizado con 655 estudiantes universitarios. La muestra fue probabilística por conglomerados; Se utilizó un cuestionario con 60 preguntas objetivas. Los datos fueron analizados mediante el paquete estadístico para las Ciencias Sociales. Este trabajo sigue los lineamientos de la Resolución 466/2012 del SNC. Resultados: La mayoría eran mujeres con una media de 23 años, no blanco, Individual / Separado / viuda, y católica. Se observó una asociación significativa entre la percepción del riesgo y el género, la edad, la religión, la orientación sexual, la edad sexarche, la realización de la prueba del Vírus de Inmunodeficiencia Humana, número de parejas sexuales y el uso del condón con parejas habituales. Conclusión: Se pudo constatar que la percepción de riesgo es realmente una variable importante, y que su ausencia puede ser un factor determinante para la adopción de conductas consideradas de riesgo para la adquisición de infecciones de transmisión sexual, como mayor número de parejas sexuales y baja adherencia al condón. OBJECTIVE: This study aimed to verify oral candidiasis, identify the causative species, and investigate the antifungal susceptibility of yeasts isolated from liver transplant patients. METHODS: A descriptive analysis of 97 patients who underwent liver transplantation was conducted at a hospital. Two clinical examinations (Collections A and B) of the oral cavity were performed. Oral material was collected from all patients, inoculated in Sabouraud Dextrose Agar, and incubated at 35℃ for 48 hours. Samples were identified by molecular sequencing of the internal trascribed space region of rDNA. RESULTS: An antifungal susceptibility test with fluconazole, amphotericin B, and micafungin was performed using the Clinical and Laboratory Standards Institute yeast broth microdilution method. Among the patients, 15 presented with oral candidiasis: eight in Collection A and seven in Collection B. The primary type of candidiasis was atrophic, followed by pseudomembranous candidiasis. The most prevalent species was Candida albicans (nine), followed by Candida glabrata (three), Candida tropicalis (two), and Candida dubliniensis (one). Regarding susceptibility to fluconazole, of the 15 samples, 11 were susceptible, three were susceptible in a dose-dependent manner, and one was resistant. CONCLUSION: The most commonly identified type of candidiasis was atrophic, with C. albicans and C. glabrata being the most prevalent causative species. One fluconazole-resistant isolate each of C. tropicalis and C. albicans were identified.

Objetivo. Analizar la eficacia de una intervención educativa con profesionales de enfermería y cuidadores para prevenir las infecciones urinarias en ancianos institucionalizados. Métodos. Estudio cuasi-experimental realizado con 20 personas (7 enfermeros y 13 cuidadores formales). Se aplicó un cuestionario antes de la intervención, se llevó a cabo la capacitación de los enfermeros y se volvió a aplicar el cuestionario 6 meses después de la intervención. Se evaluó el perfil de prevalencia de las infecciones urinarias y los factores asociados de 116 ancianos antes y después de las intervenciones educativas. En el análisis estadístico se utilizaron pruebas de asociación y correlación, comparación de modelos de regresión logística y tasas de prevalencia. Resultados. El promedio de respuestas correctas del equipo de enfermería y de los cuidadores tras la intervención educativa aumentó del pre al post-test en un 52% con los signos de infección urinaria, un 32% con los síntomas, un 72.5% con el tratamiento, y un 40% con los factores de riesgo personales/conductuales y los relacionados con la morbilidad, un 59% con los factores condicionales y un 43.8% con las medidas preventivas. El equipo de cuidadores mostró una mayor aprehensión de conocimientos en relación al equipo de enfermería en casi todas las preguntas (p<0.05). El tiempo dedicado al cuidado de ancianos no mostró correlación positiva con ninguna variable (R<1; p>0.05). La prevalencia de infección urinaria en el período pre-intervención fue del 33.62% y en el post-intervención del 20%. Conclusión. La intervención educativa fue eficaz en la prevención de las infecciones urinarias en ancianos. El aumento de conocimientos adquiridos por los enfermeros y por los cuidadores se relacionó con la reducción de la tasa de infecciones y el mejoramiento de los factores modificables más prevalentes para desarrollar este tipo de patología.

Estudo quase experimental realizado com 20 pessoas (7 enfermeiros e 13 cuidadores formais). Aplicou-se questionário na pré-intervenção, realizou-se capacitação dos profissionais e reaplicação do questionário 6 meses pós-intervenção. O perfil de prevalência de infecções urinárias e fatores associados de 116 idosos foi avaliado antes e após as intervenções educativas. Na análise estatística utilizou-se testes de associação e de correlação, comparação de modelos de regressão logística e de taxas de prevalência. Resultados. A média de acertos da equipe de enfermagem e de cuidadores, após intervenção educativa, aumentou do pré para o pós-teste em 52% com relação aos sinais de infecção urinária, 32% a sintomas, 72.5% tratamento, e 40% sobre fatores de risco pessoais/comportamentais e relacionados a morbidade, 59% a fatores condicionais e 43,8% sobre medidas preventivas. A equipe de cuidadores apresentou maior ganho de conhecimento em relação à equipe de enfermagem em quase todas as questões (p<0.05). O tempo de cuidado com idoso não apresentou correlação positiva com nenhuma variável (R<1; p>0.05). A prevalência de infecção do trato urinário no período pré-intervenção foi de 33.62% e pós intervenção 20%. Conclusão. A intervenção educativa foi efetiva na prevenção às infecções do trato urinário dos idosos. O aumento do conhecimento adquirido por enfermeiros e cuidadores foi associado à redução da taxa de infecções e à melhoria dos fatores modificáveis mais prevalentes para o desenvolvimento desse tipo de patologia.

OBJECTIVES: to report an educational technology construction on nursing professionals' rights. METHODS: an experience report on educational technology construction during the crediting of university extension hours in an undergraduate nursing course at a Brazilian public university, between March and June 2023. The Deming cycle was used as a procedural method. RESULTS: four meetings were held between students and extension workers. Eight comic books were produced based on the Code of Ethics for Nurses, addressing professional autonomy, fair remuneration, risk-free work, denial of exposure in the media and others. The Deming cycle proved to be an important strategy for constructing products. CONCLUSIONS: nursing professionals' rights must be discussed and improved. Educational technologies, such as comic books, provide playful and reflective learning.

Background: The prevalence of healthcare-associated infective endocarditis in Brazil is poorly known. Aim: To analyze the epidemiological, clinical and microbiological characteristics, and the prognosis of healthcare-associated infective endocarditis (HAIE) compared with community-acquired infective endocarditis (CIE) and identify the associated factors with hospital mortality. Method: A historical cohort study was carried out, with a data collection period from January 2009 to December 2019 at the Federal University of São Paulo. Data were collected from medical records of patients with infective endocarditis (IE) hospitalized during the study period. Patients were classified into three groups: CIE, non-nosocomial HAIE (NN-HAIE) and nosocomial HAIE (NHAIE). Results: A total of 204 patients with IE were included; of these, 127 (62.3%) were cases of HAIE, of which 83 (40.7%) were NN-HAIE and 44 (21.6%) were NHAIE. Staphylococcus spp. Were the main causative agents, especially in HAIE groups (P<0.001). Streptococcus spp. were more prevalent in the CIE group (P<0.001). In-hospital mortality was 44.6%, with no differences between groups. Independent risk factors for in-hospital mortality were age ≥ 60 years (odds ratio (OR): 6.742), septic shock (OR 5.264), stroke (OR 3.576), heart failure (OR 7.296), and Intensive Care Unit admission (OR 7.768). Conclusion: HAIE accounted for most cases in this cohort, with a higher prevalence of non-nosocomial infections. Staphylococcus spp. were the main causative agents. Hospital mortality was high, 44.6%, with no difference between groups.

RESUMEN Objetivos: evaluar los componentes físicos y mentales de la calidad de vida de los profesionales de enfermería y asociarlos con características individuales, de salud y laborales. Métodos: investigación transversal, con profesionales de enfermería de un hospital universitario de São Paulo. Se aplicó cuestionario propio e instrumentos validados. Resultados: la calidad de vida general se vio comprometida. El componente físico fue menor en relación con bajos ingresos familiares y entre quienes percibieron mayor control/presión en el trabajo, y mejor para quienes practicaban actividad física y contaban con apoyo de la dirección y organización. El componente mental fue menor en los profesionales que refirieron insatisfacción con el trabajo, peor salud física autovalorada y mayor edad. Las puntuaciones de ambos componentes se redujeron debido a enfermedades relacionadas con el trabajo, peor capacidad laboral y aumento de la somnolencia diurna. Conclusiones: la calidad de vida se asoció estadísticamente con factores institucionales controlables y recursos individuales que, excepto la edad, pueden ser promovidos.


RESUMO Objetivos: avaliar os componentes físico e mental da qualidade de vida de profissionais de enfermagem e associá-los às características individuais, de saúde e do trabalho. Métodos: pesquisa transversal, com profissionais de enfermagem de um hospital universitário de São Paulo. Aplicados questionário próprio e instrumentos validados. Resultados: a qualidade de vida geral mostrou-se comprometida. O componente físico foi menor em relação à baixa renda familiar e entre os que percebiam maior controle/pressão no trabalho, e melhor para quem praticava atividade física e tinha apoio da chefia e organização. O componente mental foi menor nos profissionais que referiram insatisfação com o trabalho, pior autoavaliação de saúde física e com idade elevada. Escores de ambos componentes reduziram mediante doenças relacionadas ao trabalho, pior capacidade para o trabalho e aumento da sonolência diurna. Conclusões: a qualidade de vida foi estatisticamente associada a fatores institucionais controláveis e recursos individuais que, exceto idade, podem ser promovidos.

Métodos: relato de experiencia sobre la construcción de tecnología educativa durante la acreditación de horas de extensión universitaria en una carrera de pregrado en enfermería en una universidad pública brasileña, entre marzo y junio de 2023. Se utilizó el ciclo de Deming como método procesal. Resultados: se realizaron cuatro reuniones entre estudiantes y extensionistas. Se produjeron ocho historietas basadas en el Código de Ética para los Profesionales de Enfermería, abordando la autonomía profesional, la remuneración justa, el trabajo libre de riesgos, la negación de la exposición en los medios de comunicación y otros. El ciclo de Deming demostró ser una estrategia importante para la construcción de productos. Conclusiones: los derechos de los profesionales de enfermería deben ser discutidos y mejorados. Las tecnologías educativas, como los cómics, proporcionan un aprendizaje lúdico y reflexivo.


RESUMO Objetivos: relatar a construção de uma tecnologia educacional sobre os direitos dos profissionais de enfermagem. Métodos: relato de experiência sobre a construção de tecnologia educacional durante a creditação de horas de extensão universitária em uma disciplina da graduação em enfermagem de uma universidade pública brasileira, entre março e junho de 2023. Utilizou-se o ciclo de Deming como método processual. Resultados: foram realizados quatro encontros entre estudantes e extensionistas. Oito histórias em quadrinhos foram produzidas pautadas no Código de Ética dos Profissionais de Enfermagem abordando autonomia profissional, remuneração justa, trabalho sem riscos, negação à exposição em mídias e outros. O ciclo de Deming mostrou-se importante estratégia para construção dos produtos. Conclusões: os direitos dos profissionais de enfermagem devem ser discutidos e aprimorados.
