RESUMEN

BACKGROUND: The prevalence of obesity is rising in all subregions of America, including Brazil. To understand the obesity problem in Brazil better, a possible approach could be to analyze its obesity trend by comparing it with the reality of a country that went previously through the epidemiological transition, such as the USA. In addition, the obesity trend must be analyzed in comparison with obesity risk factors trends, such as the physical inactivity (PI) trend. Our aim was comparatively to analyze the temporal trends of obesity between Brazil and the USA from the perspective of temporal trends of PI. METHODS: We conducted a temporal trend study based on data from national cross-sectional surveys: the VIGITEL (Surveillance System for Factors of Health Risk and Protection for Chronic Diseases by Telephone Survey) for Brazil and the BRFSS (Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance System) for the USA, comparing the annual prevalence of obesity and PI between 2011 and 2021. For the analysis of each temporal variation, linear regressions were performed with the Prais-Winsten test, and Pearson's correlation coefficient was conducted to correlate the trends of the same variables between countries and of different variables within each country. RESULTS: Considering the total sample, Brazil [coefficient (95%CI) 0.6 (0.4;0.7), p = 0.000] and the USA [coefficient (95%CI) 0.5 (0.5;0.6), p = 0.000] showed increasing trends in obesity. The tendency of PI was of stabilization in the two countries [Brazil: coefficient (95%CI) -0.03 (-0.3;0.2), p = 0.767 and USA coefficient (95%CI) -0.03 (-0.2;0.1), p = 0.584]. In addition, there was a correlation between obesity trends between Brazil and the USA (r = 0.971; p = 0.000), but there was no correlation between PI trends between the two countries, nor with obesity and PI trends within each country. CONCLUSIONS: In the last decade, there was a trend towards increasing obesity and stabilization in PI, both in Brazil and the USA. However, there was no association between temporal trends in obesity and physical inactivity in both countries. Our data reinforce a call to action to prevent and control obesity, going with and beyond PI reduction.

RESUMEN

Na perspectiva de promover saúde no local de trabalho, com ênfase na atividade física (AF), em 2004 o Tribunal Superior do Trabalho (TST), em Brasília, Distrito Federal, criou o Programa TST em Movimento. O objetivo deste estudo foi descrever o modelo lógico (ML) do Programa, a partir de sua construção histórica. O ML foi desenvolvido seguindo as diretrizes do Centers of Disease Control and Prevention, descrevendo objetivo, recursos, atividades, produtos, metas, fatores influenciadores e público-alvo. Sua construção incluiu a análise de documentos do Programa, como o relatório de resultados de 2019. O Programa é composto por profissionais de educação física, fisioterapia e estagiários, oferecendo atividades como educação em saúde, práticas de AF, eventos e monitoramento de indicadores em saúde. O ML apresentado é fruto de 15 anos de experiência e passa a compor os processos avaliativos e o acompanhamento das metas, iluminando a sustentabilidade do Programa em bases sólidas


From the perspective of promoting health in the workplace, with an emphasis on physical activity (PA), in 2004 the Tribunal Superior do Trabalho (TST), in Brasília, Distrito Federal, created the TST em Mo­vimento Program. The aim of this study was to describe the logical model (LM) of the Program, based on its historical construction. The LM was developed following the Centers of Disease Control and Prevention guidelines, describing objective, resources, activities, products, goals, influencing factors, and target audience. Its construction included the analysis of Program documents, such as the 2019 results report. The Program is composed of physical education professionals, physiotherapy, and trainees, offering activities such as health education, PA practices, events, and monitoring of health indicators. The LM presented is the result of 15 years of experience and becomes part of the evaluation processes and monitoring of goals, illuminating the Program's sustainability on solid foundations

Abstract Aims: (i) to compare the running performance of non-professional female runners from different Brazilian states; (ii) to estimate the relationship between environmental state-related variables and running performance; and (iii) to analyze the mediation role of training commitment in the relationship between the environment and running performance. Methods: A total of 418 non-professional female runners were sampled from the five Brazilian regions. An online questionnaire was used for data collection and included self-reported information about age, body weight, body height, place of residence, training volume, and running pace. Environmental characteristics were based on the Census 2010 and included percentages of public illumination, asphalt, sidewalks, and green areas for state capital cities. Linear regression, Pearson correlation, and mediation analysis were performed using SPSS 26, at a 95% confidence interval. Results: The fastest women were from the Rio Grande do Sul. Significant differences were observed between Rio Grande do Sul and Rio Grande do Norte (β= 45.79; 95%CI = 16.86 − 74.73), Distrito Federal (β = 34.55; 95%CI = 1.87−67.24), and Sergipe (β = 35.34; 95%CI = 14.09−56.60). A negative relationship was observed between running pace with green areas (r = −0.206; 95%CI = −0.305 − −0.110) and training volume (r = −0.343; 95%CI = −0.427−0.167). Training volume explained 23% of the relationship between the percentage of green areas and running performance. Conclusion: The fastest runners were from the Rio Grande do Sul. Higher percentages of green areas can favor performance, which is partly mediated by increased training volume.

Abstract Aims: This study aimed to compare the sedentary time measured using the ActiGraph GT3X accelerometer with the measurement of sitting and standing time obtained by ActivPAL inclinometers. Methods: This was a cross-sectional study conducted with a sample of 60 schoolchildren (34 males) of one elementary public school in Brazil. The students used both an ActiGraph GT3X accelerometer and an ActivPAL inclinometer, concurrently, positioned at the beginning and removed at the end of the school shift, for four days. For analysis, paired Student's t-tests, Pearson's correlation coefficients, intraclass correlation coefficients, and Bland-Altman plots were used. Results: When comparing sedentary time with sitting time, although correlated (r = 0.53; p < 0.001), the mean minutes were different (134.2 min/day in ActiGraph GT3X vs 120.3 min/day in ActivPAL; p < 0.001), with a bias of 13.9 min/day. When comparing the measurement of sedentary time with the sum of the sitting time plus standing time, different mean minutes were also observed (134.2 min/day in ActiGraph GT3X vs 177.0 min/day in ActivPAL; p < 0.001), and although the correlation was stronger (r = 0.75; p < 0.001), the bias was higher (−42.8 min/day). Conclusion: Sedentary time derived from the ActiGraph GT3X device should be used with caution to evaluate sedentary behavior in a school setting and may be interpreted only as non-moving activities (stationary behavior).

Our aim was to characterize the Brazilian studies that evaluated sedentary behavior, describing the main characteristics of the studies and identifying the used instruments. Using the PRISMA meth-odology, the search occurred on 25 August 2019 and was updated on 17 October 2020 in the fol-lowing databases: PUBMED, LILACS, and SCIELO. Studies in English, Spanish, and Portuguese were included. The inclusion criteria were studies performed with a sample of Brazilians, and that used an instrument to evaluate sedentary behavior. In total, 229 articles were selected. The majority of the studies evaluated children and adolescents. Only 33 studies used device-derived measures and there was a great variability in the questionnaires used. Only 83/198 studies presented quality criteria for the instrument used. Most studies considered the screen time in a typical week plus weekend to characterize sedentary behavior. Therefore, sedentary behavior in Brazil has mostly been evaluated by different questionnaires, and few have been appropriately validated. These findings emphasize the importance of standardization and methodological rigor for assessing sedentary behavior in the Brazilian context


Nosso objetivo foi caracterizar os estudos brasileiros que avaliaram o comportamento sedentário, descrevendo as principais características dos estudos e identificando os instrumentos utilizados. Utilizando a metodologia PRISMA, a busca ocorreu em 25 de agosto de 2019 e foi atualizada em 17 de outubro de 2020 nas seguintes bases de dados: PUBMED, LILACS e SCIELO. Estudos em inglês, espanhol e português foram incluídos. Os critérios de inclusão foram estudos realizados com uma amostra de brasileiros e que utilizassem um ins-trumento para avaliar o comportamento sedentário. No total, foram selecionados 229 artigos. A maioria dos estudos avaliou crianças e adolescentes. Apenas 33 estudos usaram medidas derivadas de dispositivos e houve uma grande variabilidade nos questionários usados. Apenas 83/198 estudos apresentaram critérios de quali-dade para o instrumento utilizado. A maioria dos estudos considerou o tempo de tela em uma semana típica mais o fim de semana para caracterizar o comportamento sedentário. Portanto, o comportamento sedentário no Brasil tem sido avaliado em grande parte por diferentes questionários, e poucos foram devidamente va-lidados. Esses achados enfatizam a importância da padronização e do rigor metodológico para avaliação do comportamento sedentário no contexto brasileiro
