RESUMEN

OBJECTIVE: The literature review addresses the effectiveness of psychotherapeutic methods in the treatment of functional abdominal pain syndrome and studying the prospects for using virtual reality technology in combination with psychotherapeutic methods according to the available literature. MATERIAL AND METHODS: A search was conducted for available literature in the eLibrary and PubMed databases, published for the period 2017-2022, using the keywords: abdominalgia, psychotherapeutic methods, gut-brain axis, virtual reality technology. RESULTS: Currently, the biopsychosocial concept of the etiopathogenesis of abdominal pain syndrome, which is not associated with an organic disease of the gastrointestinal tract, is used. A significant contribution to the formation of the disease is made by genetic, neuropsychological, neurophysiological factors, and disruption of the interaction of the gut-brain axis. Cognitive behavioral therapy, yoga, and hypnotherapy are applicable as effective psychotherapeutic methods in the complex treatment of abdominal pain syndrome in children. A promising direction is the use of virtual reality technology to increase the effectiveness of psychotherapeutic methods and reduce chronic abdominal pain syndrome by influencing the gut-brain axis. Practical research work devoted to this issue is currently rare. CONCLUSION: In the complex treatment of functional abdominal pain syndrome in children, various psychotherapeutic methods are used, the most effective are cognitive behavioral therapy and hypnotherapy. It is necessary to stimulate domestic research work studying the joint use of virtual reality technology and psychotherapeutic methods in children aged 7 to 18 years.

RESUMEN

OBJECTIVE: To analyze the application efficacy of the carboxytherapy method with the aim of chronic pain syndrome reduction. MATERIAL AND METHODS: The available literature sources, published in the period from 2017 to 2022 yrs and indexed in international abstract databases Scopus, Web of Science and PubMed, have been analyzed. The search was done by following keywords: carboxytherapy, medical rehabilitation, chronic pain. The patient with chronic pain syndrome, who was treated by carboxytherapy during rehabilitation, was also observed, with a subsequent evaluation of the carboxytherapy application in comprehensive treatment. RESULTS: Analysis of available literature has shown that the different methodical variants of carboxytherapy are used to obtain analgesic, antispasmodic, anti-inflammatory and regenerative effects in patients with chronic pain. In the presented clinical case the use of carboxytherapy in the patient with chronic pain syndrome demonstrated the efficacy of technique, expressed in the positive dynamics in the evaluation of pain syndrome reduction on the visual analogue scale and the disability indicators in the Rollan Morris and Oswestry questionnaires. CONCLUSION: Carboxytherapy reduces the intensity of chronic pain syndrome and can be applied as an additional method in medical rehabilitation. Further studies in this direction are needed.

RESUMEN

Spinal muscular atrophy (SMA) is a common cause of childhood mortality among hereditary diseases of the central nervous system, which are caused by the processes of degeneration and death of motor neurons of the anterior horns of the spinal cord. An urgent issue of modern neurology is pathogenetic therapy for this group of patients, the purpose of which is to increase the level of motoneuron survival protein. We performed a search on current methods of treating SMA in Web of Science, Scopus, PubMed, Embase by the keywords: spinal muscular atrophy, neuromuscular diseases, pathogenetic therapy. Significant progress has been made in the treatment of SMA over the past 7 years. A major advance is the introduction of disease-modifying therapies using SMN2 splicing modulation or gene replacement therapy. At the moment, there are 3 FDA-approved drugs for pathogenetic therapy: Nusinersen, Risdiplam, Zolgensma. The article compares the drugs, evaluates their safety and effectiveness according to the available literature. Modern drugs for the pathogenetic therapy of SMA are highly effective and reduce the mortality rate. The results of clinical trials predict the emergence of new modern drugs. This suggests a favorable prognosis for the treatment of patients with SMA.

RESUMEN

Nervous system damage affects more than a billion people worldwide and is one of the leading causes of cognitive impairment. An urgent issue in modern medicine is the neurorehabilitation of this particular group of patients. The purpose of this article is to search for new approaches to achieve more effective recovery of cognitive functions, precisely by using virtual reality technology as a promising direction in neurorehabilitation. It has been shown that neurobiological effects of virtual reality have a positive effect on the plasticity of neurons, improve cognitive functions and positively affect the psychoemotional state. A case of the positive impact of being in the virtual environment «Outer Space¼ in a female patient with cognitive impairment and chronic pain is presented.
