RESUMEN

Proliferation of leaf meristem cells and formation of multicellular glands and unicellular hairs in Cotinus coggygria were studied under conditions of complex stressors exerting influence on this species when introduced and grown in such a big industrial city as Voronezh. Variability in the length of dividing meristematic cells (from 7.5 to 30.0 microns) was detected. The chromosome number was calculated, and the mean length of chromosomes (1 micron) was determined. The modal chromosome number in the leaf meristem cells in 2 n = 30. However, along with these cells, aneuploid (2.7%), uninucleate polypoid (1.9%), binuclear (10%), and polynuclear (3%) cells were also observed. The length of trichomes initials, formed in the epidermis, was near 40 microns. These have a large nucleus and may have, presumably, a polyploid nature. It is assumed that a heterogeneous meristematic cell population, at the expense of selection into such a population, is able to provide an optimum combination of cells with different level ploidy and aneuploidy for more effective realization of gene function in the extremal environment conditions.

RESUMEN

The traditional general anesthetics and opioid seem to be insufficient for complete protection of the patient from operative trauma in major surgery. The prospective study has been done in 2 groups of patients undergoing abdominal oncological operations with multimodal general anesthesia based on midazolam, propofol, phentanyl and calipsol in microdose in preventive and postoperative analgesia by ketoprofen in the 1st group (35 cases) and the same general anesthesia in combination with prolonged epidural anesthesia with ropivacaine. Both complete anesthesia and postoperative analgesia have been achieved in each group of the patients, but in the 2nd group the doses of generally introduced analgesics with central action--phentanyl and calypsol--were threefold and twofold less, respectively, and restoration of gastric and intestinal peristalsis was more rapid (1.5 day) vs control group (3.5 days). The importance of using all the mentioned components of anesthesia and analgesia before, during and after operation to prevent the defects of antinociceptive protection and subsequent development of postoperative pain syndrome has been pointed out.

RESUMEN

The karyotype (2n = 24 + 1B) was detected in 8 trees of Picea glauca (Moench.) Voss. = P. canadensis B.S.P., and the karyotype (2n = 24) was detected in 2 trees of spruce from the same stand in the centre of Voronezh. The majority of seeds, collected from these trees, were empty. From 150 selected seeds, which were full, four plantlets were obtained. One of them died, another one had no mitotic figures, and the third and fourth plantlets had karyotypes (2n = 24 + 1B, and 2n = 24, respectively). A possible mechanism of formation of B-chromosomes and their adaptive role are discussed.

RESUMEN

Tuberculous meningitis (TM) develops more frequently in unvaccinated or inadequately vaccinated infants (28 cases of 34), in contact infants (26 of 34 cases). Within the first year of life TM is especially aggressive. Late diagnosis and treatment leave significant residual neurological changes or result in lethal outcomes.

RESUMEN

Antituberculosis antibodies and mycobacterial antigens were detected in 74 young and preschool children suffering from tuberculosis by using enzyme immunoassay (EIA). They were found in 75.7% and 68.9% of children, respectively. The highest levels of antibodies were significantly greater in patients with active disseminated processes than in those with active restrictive processes. There were no great differences in the levels of antigens between the patients having different activities of a tuberculosis process. Follow-up indicated that there was a reduction in the levels of antibodies and antigens at 6-month treatment. The use of enzyme EIA in children ill with tuberculosis may serve an additional criterion for diagnosis of tuberculosis, evaluation of its activity and course.

RESUMEN

The paper outlines the results of following up 50 infants and preschool children who had contacts on their families. The major sources of infection were equally both their mother and their father. The children were found to have pronounced active processes. The most severe types of tuberculosis were common in infants in whom general, military tuberculosis and tuberculous meningitis along with complicated types in intrathoracic lymph node tuberculosis were detected. There was more commonly a phase of dissemination and decay in infants. Severe types of tuberculosis were encountered in the families having a combination of many unfavourable factors, both medical and social ones. Among the children who had fallen ill, 32% were detected on their visits to polyclinics of upon admissions to general hospitals.

RESUMEN

As shown by clinical, electrophysiological and hormonal examinations of 34 patients with chronic inflammation of the uterine appendages and control subjects, the disease treatment with intensive low-frequency current has no negative effects on cardiovascular and endocrine systems, improves function of the reproductive system. Intensive low-frequency currents are believed to be a useful modality in management of chronic genital inflammation.

RESUMEN

Clinico-catamnestic and logopedic examinations were carried out in 125 patients who had been suffering from grave neurosis-like spasmophemia since the speech mastering. By the time of the examination the patients' average age was 20 years. The examinations have shown that in 59%, of the patients the spasmophemia has ceased; 22% have had a considerable improvement; in 10% there was a slight improvement, and 9% showed no improvement at all. Of great importance for eliminating and relieving the spasmophemia was correction of not only the speech defect, but also the patients' personality peculiarities.

RESUMEN

Disturbance of the microcirculation produced by the combined injection of the high molecular weight dextran and vasopressin led as soon as the first minutes (5 min) to the intensification of glycolysis. This was testified to by the reduction of glycogen concentration by 19.4 percent, elevation of the phosphorylase "A" activity by 30-36 percent and of the pyruvic acid by 36.9 percent. The ATP, ADP, AMP, and the KP concentration remained unchanged. The observed glycolysis changes can be regarded as the initial metabolic reactions resulting from hypoxia originating in microcirculation disturbances.
