RESUMEN

The main objective of this study was to investigate the effect of temperature towards lipid oxidation and non-enzymatic browning reactions in krill oil upon storage. Krill oil was incubated at two different temperatures (20 and 40 °C) for 28 or 42 days. The oxidative stability of krill oil was assessed by peroxide value and anisidine value, measurement of lipid derived volatiles, lipid classes and antioxidants. The non-enzymatic browning reactions were assessed through the measurement of pyrroles, free amino acids content and Strecker-derived volatiles. The increase of incubation temperature firstly increased the lipid oxidation in krill oil and subsequently the non-enzymatic browning reactions. The occurrence of these reactions was most likely due to the reaction between α-dicarbonyl or carbonyl compounds with amino acids or ammonia. In addition to tocopherol and astaxanthin esters, the formation of pyrroles might help to protect the krill oil against lipid oxidation.

RESUMEN

A packed capillary column supercritical fluid chromatography system with flame ionization detection has been used for purity testing of candidates for homogeneous catalysis such as methyl tricarbonyl pentamethylcyclopentadienyl tungsten [Cp*W(CO)3Me], methyl tricarbonyl cyclopentadienyl tungsten [CpW(CO)3Me], tetramethyl pentamethylcyclopentadienyl iridium (Cp*IrMe4), trimethyl (1,4,7-trimethyl-1,4,7-triazocyclononane) rhodium (CnRhMe3), trimethylphosphine hydride dicarbonyl cyclopentadienyl molybdenum [eta5-CpMoH(CO)2PMe3] and triphenylphosphine hydride dicarbonyl cyclopentadienyl molybdenum [eta5-CpMoH(CO)2PPh3]. A mass limit of detection of 240 pg was found for eta5-CpMoH(CO)2PMe3 when using a 60-nl injection volume and pure CO2 as mobile phase on a 5 microm Kromasil C18 column. The stability of the catalysts in solution has been examined. After 24 h more than 70% of eta5-CpMoH(CO)2PMe3 and 50% of eta5-CpMoH(CO)2PPh3 had decomposed. Due to the instability of the compounds the purity testing had to take place rapidly after sample dissolution.

RESUMEN

In 37 patients with retained bile duct stones after operation using a T-tube, endoscopic papillotomy (EPT) was used as the therapeutic procedure. In 27 patients the stones were successfully removed in one session. Eight patients needed two to six endoscopic attempts before the stones could be removed. In two patients we failed to solve the problem endoscopically; in both patients we could remove the stone through the T-tube channel using a Dormia basket. The endoscopic method of removing retained bile duct stones is safe and quick. Most of the patients can be discharged from the hospital the following day.

RESUMEN

Benign ulcer of the caecum may mimic acute appendicitis or cancer of the colon. The aetiology is unknown. Most patients are operated on, and the pathologist's report may be unexpected. The ulcer may be diagnosed at colonoscopy and conservatively treated. Diseases which must be excluded are cancer and specific inflammatory, infectious and parasitic conditions.
