RESUMEN

In electric field modified flames, the electric body force on fluid elements can play a role in modifying the flow field, affecting flame characteristics by this modified flow motion. Numerical studies have developed ion kinetic mechanisms and appropriate transport models for charged species, validating them with a voltage-current trend in 1D premixed flames. Recent experimental approaches have measured the electric field by adopting the Electric Field Induced Second Harmonic generation (EFISH) technique. However, the quantification has turned out very challenging due to the inherent distortion in the EFISH signal, as well as inhomogeneous temperature and concentration fields in the combustion field. Here, we propose measurement and calibration schemes to quantify the EFISH signal in a laminar counterflow nonpremixed flame and present comparison with numerical results using an in-house multi-physics CFD (Computational Fluid Dynamics) code. Overall, the quantified electric fields agreed well with those from numerical simulation, specifically capturing null electric fields near the flame in the sub-saturated regime due to the electric field screening effect. In the saturated regime, notable discrepancy was found in a fuel stream when electrons moved through it: experiment indicated a significant number of negative ions in the fuel stream, whereas numerical results predicted negligible negative ions, due to the implemented ion-mechanism. This suggested that the experimentally obtained electric fields may serve as validation data for modeling studies to improve transport models and ion-mechanism. In-situ measurement of charged species in the presence of external electric fields should be a future work.

We present the first experimental application of coherent Raman spectroscopy (CRS) on the ro-vibrational ν2 mode spectrum of methane (CH4). Ultrabroadband femtosecond/picosecond (fs/ps) CRS is performed in the molecular fingerprint region from 1100 to 2000 cm-1, employing fs laser-induced filamentation as the supercontinuum generation mechanism to provide the ultrabroadband excitation pulses. We introduce a time-domain model of the CH4 ν2 CRS spectrum, including all five ro-vibrational branches allowed by the selection rules Δv = 1, ΔJ = 0, ±1, ±2; the model includes collisional linewidths, computed according to a modified exponential gap scaling law and validated experimentally. The use of ultrabroadband CRS for in situ monitoring of the CH4 chemistry is demonstrated in a laboratory CH4/air diffusion flame: CRS measurements in the fingerprint region, performed across the laminar flame front, allow the simultaneous detection of molecular oxygen (O2), carbon dioxide (CO2), and molecular hydrogen (H2), along with CH4. Fundamental physicochemical processes, such as H2 production via CH4 pyrolysis, are observed through the Raman spectra of these chemical species. In addition, we demonstrate ro-vibrational CH4 v2 CRS thermometry, and we validate it against CO2 CRS measurements. The present technique offers an interesting diagnostics approach to in situ measurement of CH4-rich environments, e.g., in plasma reactors for CH4 pyrolysis and H2 production.

The current study aims to evaluate the psychometric properties of the Emotion Regulation and Social Skills Questionnaire (ERSSQ), a rating scale designed specifically to assess the social skills of young people with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). The participants were 84 children and young adolescents with ASD, aged between 7.97 and 14.16 years with a mean IQ score of 90.21 (SD = 18.82). The results provide evidence for the concurrent and criterion validity of the ERSSQ Parent form, and the concurrent validity of the ERSSQ Teacher form. The clinical and theoretical implications are discussed, including the necessity of ratings across multiple contexts and the potential use of the ERSSQ in identifying individuals most in need of intervention and for planning and assessing the outcomes of social skills interventions.
