RESUMEN

A system of two site-controlled semiconductor quantum dots (QDs) is deterministically integrated with a photonic crystal membrane nano-cavity. The two QDs are identified via their reproducible emission spectral features, and their coupling to the fundamental cavity mode is established by emission co-polarization and cavity feeding features. A theoretical model accounting for phonon interaction and pure dephasing reproduces the observed results and permits extraction of the light-matter coupling constant for this system. The demonstrated approach offers a platform for scaling up the integration of QD systems and nano-photonic elements for integrated quantum photonics applications.

RESUMEN

Using site-controlled semiconductor quantum dots (QDs) free of multiexcitonic continuum states, integrated with photonic crystal membrane cavities, we clarify the effects of pure dephasing and phonon scattering on exciton-cavity coupling in the weak-coupling regime. In particular, the observed QD-cavity copolarization and cavity mode feeding versus QD-cavity detuning are explained quantitatively by a model of a two-level system embedded in a solid-state environment.

RESUMEN

We investigated experimentally 1D and 2D arrays of coupled L3 photonic crystal cavities. The optical modes of the coupled cavity arrays are fed by a site-controlled quantum wire light source. By performing photoluminescence measurements and relying on near-field calculation of the cavitiy modes, we evidence optical coupling between the cavities as well as supermode delocalization. In particular, for small cavity separations, fabrication induced disorder effects are shown to be negligible compared to optical coupling between cavities.

RESUMEN

We demonstrate that the emission characteristics of site-controlled InGaAs/GaAs single quantum dots embedded in photonic crystal slab cavities correspond to single confined excitons coupled to cavity modes, unlike previous reports of similar systems based on self-assembled quantum dots. By using polarization-resolved photoluminescence spectroscopy at different temperatures and a theoretical model, we show that the exciton-cavity interaction range is limited to the phonon sidebands. Photon-correlation and pump-power dependence experiments under nonresonant excitation conditions further establish that the cavity is fed only by a single exciton.

RESUMEN

Reproductive function in female patients (pts) with advanced kidney disease is decreased and characterised by diminished libido, ovulation and infertility. The underlying cause is hypothalamic-hypophysis-gonadal axis dysfunction in women with chronic kidney disease which usually results in high levels of prolactin and.ammenorrhea In women with end stage kidney disease requiring replacement therapy in fertile period conception is very rare. Even in case of conception successful pregnancy and delivery are not likely, on most occasions spontaneous abortion occurs. Should a newly pregnant woman on haemodialysis wish to deliver the baby, intensive dialysis is required, everyday until childbirth. In the haemodialysis center in University Clinical Center in Ljubljana, only one woman in the chronic dialysis programme gave birth, in 1996.

RESUMEN

This paper describes some of the issues currently influencing thoughts and practice in expanding the use of living kidney donors. One of the challenges facing kidney transplantation is the increasing number of patients with Established Renal Failure (ERF) waiting for a kidney, and the ethical concerns raised as a result of meeting these challenges by the use of living donors. Nephrology professionals play an important role in the education of patients and potential living kidney donors and should be familiar with current issues related to this field.

RESUMEN

Peritoneal dialysis is the preferred dialysis mode for children with end stage renal disease (1). It avoids problems with vascular access and enables near normal life style. Haemodialysis is the only mode of treatment for a child waiting for renal transplantation when peritoneal dialysis is not possible. Haemofiltration, as a mode of renal replacement therapy, was introduced in 1967 by Lee Henderson (2).

RESUMEN

BACKGROUND: Emergency surgery for obstruction, perforation and massive bleeding represent 10%-40% of all colorectal operations. METHODS: Retrospective analysis of a series of 170 patients operated on in the period from 1.1.1988 to 31.12.1993. RESULTS: 170 (12.5%) of 1363 patients with colorectal pathology needed urgent surgery: 121 (71.2%) for obstruction, 39 (22.9%) for perforation and 10 (5.9%) for massive bleeding, with mortality rate 17.6% (30 patients). 116 (68.2%) underwent one-stage procedure with mortality rate 9.5% (11 patients), 36 (21.2%) patients underwent two-stage procedure with mortality rate 27.8% (10 patients) and 18 (10.6%) patients other procedures. 115 (67.7%) of 170 patients had malignant disease; 92/115 (80.0%) underwent one-stage procedure with mortality rate 10.9% (10 patients), 7 (6.1%) patients two-stage procedure with mortality rate 14.3% (1 patient) and 16 (13.9%) other palliative procedures (by bass, stoma). CONCLUSION: We believe one-stage procedure is the method of choice for the most colorectal emergencies.

RESUMEN

The authors present their 2-year experience in treating echinococcus cysts of the liver by pericystectomy and the Cavitron ultrasonic vibrator-aspirator. The treatment consists of total pericystectomy involving no opening of the cyst. Patients treated at the University Department of Gastroenterologic Surgery, Ljubljana, are presented. In conclusion, the authors stress the significance of proper operative technique and instruments in the management of echinococcus cysts of the liver.
