RESUMEN
Through a cuasi experimental study, the effectiveness in obtaining an endocervical sample with the cervical brush was compared against the tongue holder in three medical units of Papanicolaou taken during the month of May 1994. In a simple aleatory way, three detections were made using brush or tongue-holders. The technique for obtaining the sample with the cervical brush was by rotating five times clock-wise. The quality was evaluated according to the Bethesda System. The samples taken with the brush increased considerably their quality in relation to the ones taken with the tongue holder. There is a risk of obtaining a bad quality sample with the tongue holder of tour times against the brush.
