RESUMEN

RATIONALE: Postpartum ovarian vein thrombophlebitis (POVT) is a rare condition, and it can lead to severe complications and mortality. Here we report a patient who presented with vaginal bleeding and the diagnosis of POVT was confirmed by imaging. PATIENT CONCERNS: A 38-year-old postpartum woman without remarkable medical history presented with vaginal bleeding and lower abdominal pain. DIAGNOSES: The diagnosis was confirmed by computed tomography scan marked by a thrombus mass involving the right ovarian vein and inferior vena cava. INTERVENTIONS: The patient was treated with intravenous antibiotics and low-molecular-weight heparin. OUTCOMES: The patient recovered smoothly without complications. LESSONS: We should pay high attention to the recognition and management of POVT to prevent morbidity and mortality.

RESUMEN

The antenatal diagnosis of aortic dissection carries a grave prognosis. Although cases of pregnant women with Marfan syndrome have been encountered that resulted either in sudden death or emergency surgery at diagnosis, cesarean section delivery for patients who survive is associated with the risk of anesthesia and manipulation of the abdomen. Such complications can be avoided if the aortic dissection can be treated conservatively. We report the successful treatment of an aortic dissection with pharmacologic therapy and the birth of a healthy infant.

RESUMEN

Roughly 61% of patients diagnosed with polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) using the 2003 Rotterdam criteria fulfilled the 1990 National Institutes of Health (NIH) criteria. Patients meeting the 1990 NIH diagnostic criteria have more severe clinical and biochemical PCOS symptoms than those who did not.

RESUMEN

OBJECTIVE: Uterine rupture is one of the most serious obstetric complications, with an increased risk of maternal and perinatal morbidity, and even mortality. CASE REPORT: A multiparous woman came to our labor room at 41 weeks of gestation for induction of labor due to being post-term and having a nonreactive nonstress test. She had no history of abdominal or gynecologic surgery. Emergent cesarean section was performed due to prolonged decelerations shown on the fetal monitor. A 12 cm uterine laceration was identified after opening the abdominal cavity. Fortunately, her uterus was preserved and her postoperative condition was stable. CONCLUSION: To avoid maternal and fetal morbidity, or even mortality, obstetricians should be aware of the possible existence of uterine rupture in an unscarred uterus.
