Purpose: The purpose of this study was to compare the differences in myopic control effects between orthokeratology (OK) contact lenses and defocus incorporated multiple segments (DIMS) spectacle lenses. Methods: A retrospective cohort study was conducted that included patients who had received OK lens, DIMS spectacle lens or single-vision spectacle treatments. A total of 54 eyes from 27 individuals, 38 eyes from 19 individuals and 42 eyes from 21 individuals were enrolled into the OK lens, DIMS and control groups, respectively. The primary outcomes were the changes in the spherical equivalent refraction (SER) and axial length (AXL) among the groups. A repeated-measure ANCOVA was adopted to calculate the SER progression and AXL elongation of the OK lens group compared with the DIMS group. Results: The difference in the SER progression was clinically non-significant in the OK lens group compared with the DIMS and control groups (P = 0.001). The total AXL elongation results were similar between the OK lens and DIMS groups, but these were lower than in the control group (P = 0.005). The repeated-measure ANCOVA revealed that the SER progression difference during the study interval was clinically non-significant in the OK lens group when compared with the DIMS group (P = 0.028). The AXL elongation results between the OK lens and DIMS populations did not illustrate a significant difference (P = 0.607). In a subgroup analysis of moderate astigmatism, better AXL control was observed in the DIMS subgroup compared with the OK lens subgroup (P = 0.016). Conclusions: The OK lens demonstrated a clinically non-significant effect on the SER and AXL controls compared with the DIMS spectacle lens.

Poor adherence to antidepressants increases the risk of suicide, while greater mental health awareness promotes seeking appropriate treatment, highlighting the urgent need to assess depression knowledge. This study aimed to develop and assess the psychometrics of a Geriatric Depression Knowledge Scale (GDKS) for older adults with depression. In phase 1, 18 items were generated through an intensive literature review and clinical experiences. Phase 2 involved assessing content and face validities of the GDKS. In phase 3, a cross-sectional study (206 older adults, 100 psychiatric professionals) determined construct validity, internal consistency, and test-retest reliability. GDKS demonstrated excellent content and face validity. Older participants scored significantly lower than psychiatric professionals, confirming excellent construct validity. Reliability was evident with a Kuder-Richardson formula 20 score of 0.72 and a 4-week test-retest reliability of 0.86 (p < 0.01). The GDKS provides a reliable tool for evaluating geriatric depression knowledge in psychiatric outpatient settings.

We aim to investigate the potential correlation between the presence of ovarian cancer and the development of dry eye disease (DED) via the usage of the Longitudinal Health Insurance Database (LHID) of Taiwan. A retrospective cohort study was executed, and patients with ovarian cancer were selected according to the diagnostic and procedure codes. One ovarian cancer patient was matched to four non-ovarian cancer participants which served as control group, and a total of 4992 and 19,968 patients constructed the ovarian cancer and control groups, respectively. The primary outcome in the current study is the development of DED according to the diagnostic and procedure codes. Cox proportional hazard regression was utilized to produce the adjusted hazard ratio (aHR) and related 95% confidence interval (CI) of DED between the two groups. There were 542 and 2502 DED events observed in the ovarian cancer group and the control group, respectively. The ovarian cancer group illustrated a significantly higher incidence of DED development than the control group after the adjustment of several confounders (aHR: 1.10, 95% CI: 1.01-1.21, p = 0.040). In the subgroup analysis stratified by age, ovarian cancer patients aged older than 60 years showed a higher incidence of DED compared to the non-ovarian cancer population (aHR: 1.19, 95% CI: 1.08-1.28, p = 0.011). In addition, ovarian cancer patients with a disease duration longer than five years also showed higher incidence of DED formation than the non-ovarian cancer population (aHR: 1.13, 95% CI: 1.04-1.22, p = 0.027). In conclusion, the presence of ovarian cancer is associated with higher incidence of subsequent DED, especially in those older than 60 years and with a disease interval of more than five years.

Prior cross-cultural studies have demonstrated differences among Eastern and Western cultures in memory and cognition along with variation in neuroanatomy and functional engagement. We further probed cultural neuroanatomical variability in terms of its relationship with memory performance. Specifically, we investigated how memory performance related to gray matter volume in several prefrontal lobe structures, including across cultures. For 58 American and 57 Taiwanese young adults, memory performance was measured with the California Verbal Learning Test (CVLT) using performance on learning trial 1, on which Americans had higher scores than the Taiwanese, and the long delayed free recall task, on which groups performed similarly. MRI data were reconstructed using FreeSurfer. Across both cultures, we observed that larger volumes of the bilateral rostral anterior cingulate were associated with lower scores on both CVLT tasks. In terms of effects of culture, the relationship between learning trial 1 scores and gray matter volumes in the right superior frontal gyrus had a trend for a positive relationship in Taiwanese but not in Americans. In addition to the a priori analysis of select frontal volumes, an exploratory whole-brain analysis compared volumes-without considering CVLT performance-across the two cultural groups in order to assess convergence with prior research. Several cultural differences were found, such that Americans had larger volumes in the bilateral superior frontal and lateral occipital cortex, whereas Taiwanese had larger volumes in the bilateral rostral middle frontal and inferior temporal cortex, and the right precuneus.

(1) Background: Endothelial decompensation is a common complication after penetrating keratopathy (PK), while the risk factors for endothelial decompensation after PK have not been fully elucidated. Consequently, we aim to investigate the possible risk factors for endothelial decompensation after PK. (2) Methods: This retrospective study was conducted using the National Health Insurance Research Database (NHIRD) of Taiwan. The main outcome was the development of endothelial decompensation after PK surgery. The effects of potential risk factors were compared between the patients with endothelial decompensation and the patients without endothelial decompensation via Cox proportional hazard regression, which produced the adjusted hazard ratio (aHR) and a 95% confidence interval (CI). (3) Results: Overall, 54 patients developed endothelial decompensation after PK surgery, with a ratio of 16.12 percent. The pre-existing type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) (aHR: 1.924, 95% CI: 1.257-2.533, p = 0.0095) and history of cataract surgery (aHR: 1.687, 95% CI: 1.328-2.440, p = 0.0026) were correlated with the development of endothelial decompensation. In the subgroup analysis, the correlation between a history of cataract surgery and post-PK endothelial decompensation was more prominent in patients older than 60 years compared to their younger counterparts (p = 0.0038). (4) Conclusions: Pre-existing T2DM and a history of cataract surgery are associated with a higher incidence of post-PK endothelial decompensation.

AIM AND OBJECTIVES: To develop a Delirium Care Critical-Thinking Scale for nurses caring for patients in the intensive care unit and examine the scale's psychometric properties. BACKGROUND: There is a tool to evaluate nurses' critical thinking skills to determine nursing competency when delirium care is required. DESIGN: This cross-sectional, mixed-methods study. METHODS: The Delphi method was applied for collection and analysis of data during conceptualization and item generation of the tool (Phase I). Item analysis, assessment of validity and reliability of the scale (Phase II) involved 318 nurses recruited by convenience sampling from nine adult intensive care units in medicine and surgery at one medical centre. Confirmatory factor analysis assessed construct validity. Internal consistency and 2-week test-retest stability measured reliability. A Critical Thinking Disposition Inventory Scale examined concurrent validity. RESULTS: After three rounds, the Delphi method resulted in 31 scale items. Item analysis demonstrated construct reliability ranged from 9.23 to 16.18. Confirmatory factor analysis eliminated one item and extracted five factors: applying knowledge, confirming the problem and accuracy of information, reasoning logically, choosing appropriate strategies and remaining open-minded. Average variance extracted values of all factors indicated good convergent validity. Cronbach's α for internal consistency was .96 with good test-retest reliability. The correlation coefficient for concurrent validity was .301. CONCLUSION: The new Delirium Care Critical-Thinking Scale for intensive care nurses was demonstrated to be a reliable and valid tool for evaluating their ability to assess patients with delirium. RELEVANCE TO CLINICAL PRACTICE: This new scale could be used to assess outcomes of education interventions and the effectiveness of nursing care quality involving patients with delirium in intensive and critical care units. REPORTING METHOD: The COSMIN checklist was used as the reporting guideline for this study. PATIENT OR PUBLIC CONTRIBUTION: None.

We aim to investigate the myopic control effect of high-concentration atropine (ATR) and dual-focus contact lenses (DFCLs). A retrospective cohort study was conducted. A total of 182 eyes in 91 individuals who used high-concentration ATR (0.125%) and another 70 eyes in 35 individuals who used DFCLs were enrolled in the ATR and DFCL groups, respectively. The primary outcomes were spherical equivalent refraction (SER) progression and axial length (AXL) elongation. The generalized estimate equation was utilized to yield the adjusted odds ratio (aOR) and 95% confidence interval (CI) of cycloplegic SER progression and AXL elongation between groups. According to the multivariable analysis, the change in cycloplegic SER progression was similar between the DFCL and ATR groups (aOR: 1.305, 95% CI: 0.247-2.515, p = 0.803). The DFCL group demonstrated a numerically higher rate of AXL elongation compared to the ATR group (aOR: 1.530, 95% CI: 0.980-1.894, p = 0.051). In the subgroup analysis, cycloplegic SER progression was insignificant between ATR and DFCL users in different subgroups (all p > 0.05). The DFCL patients with moderate astigmatism and high AXL (both p < 0.001) presented a high risk of AXL elongation. In conclusion, DFCL usage demonstrated similar myopic control of cycloplegic SER and AXL compared to high-concentration ATR, while DFCLs showed lower AXL control, mainly in patients with moderate astigmatism and high AXL.

BACKGROUND: Individuals with amnestic mild cognitive impairment (aMCI), especially for those with multidomain cognitive deficits, should be clinically examined for determining risk of developing Alzheimer's disease. English-speakers with aMCI exhibit language impairments mostly at the lexical-semantic level. Given that the language processing of Mandarin Chinese is different from that of alphabetic languages, whether previous findings for English-speakers with aMCI can be generalized to Mandarin Chinese speakers with aMCI remains unclear. OBJECTIVE: This study examined the multifaceted language functions of Mandarin Chinese speakers with aMCI and compared them with those without cognitive impairment by using a newly developed language test battery. METHODS: Twenty-three individuals with aMCI and 29 individuals without cognitive impairment were recruited. The new language test battery comprises five language domains (oral production, auditory and reading comprehension, reading aloud, repetition, and writing). RESULTS: Compared with the controls, the individuals with aMCI exhibited poorer performance in the oral production and auditory and reading comprehension domains, especially on tests involving effortful lexical and semantic processing. Moreover, the aMCI group made more semantic naming errors compared with their counterparts and tended to experience difficulty in processing items belonging to the categories of living objects. CONCLUSIONS: The pattern identified in the present study is similar to that of English-speaking individuals with aMCI across multiple language domains. Incorporating language tests involving lexical and semantic processing into clinical practice is essential and can help identify early language dysfunction in Mandarin Chinese speakers with aMCI.

Adrenal venous sampling (AVS) is a crucial method for the lateralization of primary aldosteronism (PA). It is advised to halt the use of the patient's antihypertensive medications and correct hypokalemia prior to undergoing AVS. Hospitals equipped to conduct AVS should establish their own diagnostic criteria based on current guidelines. If the patient's antihypertensive medications cannot be discontinued, AVS can be performed as long as the serum renin level is suppressed. The Task Force of Taiwan PA recommends using a combination of adrenocorticotropic hormone stimulation, quick cortisol assay, and C-arm cone-beam computed tomography to maximize the success of AVS and minimize errors by using the simultaneous sampling technique. If AVS is not successful, an NP-59 (131 I-6-ß-iodomethyl-19-norcholesterol) scan can be used as an alternative method to lateralize PA. We depicted the details of the lateralization procedures (mainly AVS, and alternatively NP-59) and their tips and tricks for confirmed PA patients who would consider to undergo surgical treatment (unilateral adrenalectomy) if the subtyping shows unilateral disease.

AIM: This work aimed to elucidate the mechanisms of Se@Tri-PTs in alleviating podocyte injury via network pharmacology and in vitro cellular assay. BACKGROUND: Selenized tripterine phytosomes (Se@Tri-PTs) have been confirmed to undertake synergistic and sensitized effects on inflammation, which may be curatively promising for diabetic nephropathy (DN). However, the mechanisms of Se@Tri-PTs in alleviating podocyte injury, a major contributor to DN, still remain unclear. OBJECTIVE: The objective of the study was to find out the underlying mechanisms of Se@Tri-PTs in alleviating podocyte injury in diabetic nephropathy. METHODS: The key components and targets of Tripterygium wilfordii (TW) significant for DN as well as the signaling pathways involved have been identified. A high glucose-induced podocyte injury model was established and verified by western blot. The protective concentration of Se@Tri-PTs was screened by CCK-8 assay. Podocytes cultured with high glucose were treated with Se@Tri-PTs under protective levels. The expression of key protective proteins, nephrin and desmin, in podocytes, was assayed by western blot. Further, autophagy- related proteins and factors, like NLRP3, Beclin-1, LC3II/LC3, P62, and SIRT1, were analyzed, which was followed by apoptosis detection. RESULTS: Network pharmacology revealed that several monomeric components of TW, especially Tri, act on DN through multiple targets and pathways, including the NLRP3-mediated inflammatory pathway. Se@Tri-PTs improved the viability of podocytes and alleviated their injury induced by high glucose at 5 µg/L or above. High-glucose induction promoted the expression of NLRP3 in podocytes, while a low concentration of Se@Tri-PTs suppressed the expression. A long-term exposure of high glucose significantly inhibited the autophagic activity of podocytes, as manifested by decreased Beclin-1 level, lower ratio of LC3 II/LC3 I, and up- regulation of P62. This abnormality was efficiently reversed by Se@Tri-PTs. Importantly, the expression of SIRT1 was up-regulated and podocyte apoptosis was reduced. CONCLUSION: Se@Tri-PTs can alleviate podocyte injury associated with DN by modulating NLRP3 expression through the pathway of SIRT1-mediated autophagy.

The activation of the cGAS-STING pathway is associated with many sterile inflammatory and inflammatory conditions, including acute kidney injury. As a cytoplasmic DNA sensor, sensitization of the cGAS-STING pathway can ignite the innate immune response in vivo and trigger a series of biological effects. In recent years, there is increasing evidence showing that the cGAS-STING pathway plays a vital role in acute kidney injury, a non-inflammatory disease induced by activation of innate immune cells, and closely related to intracellular reactive oxygen species, mitochondrial DNA, and the cGAS-STING pathway. This review provides a prospect of the cGAS-STING pathway and its relationship to acute kidney injury.

Associative memory is a type of hippocampal-dependent episodic memory that declines with age. Studies have examined the neural substrates underlying associative memory and considered the hippocampus holistically; however, the association between associative memory decline and volumetric change in hippocampal subfields in the context of normal aging remains uncharacterized. Leveraging the distinct linguistic features of Chinese characters to evaluate distinct types of false recognition, we investigated age-related differences in associative recognition and hippocampal subfield volumes, as well as the relationship between behavioral performance and hippocampal morphometry in 25 younger adults and 32 older adults. The results showed an age-related associative memory deficit, which was exacerbated after a 30-min delay. Older adults showed higher susceptibility to false alarm errors with recombined and orthographically related foils compared to phonologically or semantically related ones. Moreover, we detected a disproportionately age-related, time-dependent increase in orthographic errors. Older adults exhibited smaller volumes in all hippocampal subfields when compared to younger adults, with a less pronounced effect observed in the CA2/3 subfield. Group-collapsed correlational analyses revealed associations between specific hippocampal subfields and associative memory but not item memory. Additionally, multi-subfield regions had prominent associations with delayed recognition. These findings underscore the significance of multiple hippocampal subfields in various hippocampal-dependent processes including associative memory, recollection-based retrieval, and pattern separation ability. Moreover, our observations of age-related difficulty in differentiating perceptually similar foils from targets provide a unique opportunity for examining the essential contribution of individual hippocampal subfields to the pattern separation process in mnemonic recognition.

Adrenal venous sampling (AVS) is the gold standard for identifying curable unilateral aldosterone excess in primary aldosteronism (PA). Studies have demonstrated the value of steroid profiling through liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS) in AVS interpretation. First, the performance of LC-MS/MS and immunoassay in assessing selectivity and lateralization was compared. Second, the utility of the proportion of individual steroids in adrenal veins in subtyping PA was analyzed. We enrolled 75 consecutive patients with PA who underwent AVS between 2020 and 2021. Fifteen adrenal steroids were analyzed in peripheral and adrenal veins through LC-MS/MS before and after adrenocorticotropic hormone (ACTH) stimulation. Through selectivity index that was based on cortisol and alternative steroids, LC-MS/MS rescued 45% and 66% of failed cases judged by immunoassay in unstimulated and stimulated AVS, respectively. LC-MS/MS identified more unilateral diseases than did immunoassay (76% vs. 45%, P < 0.05) and provided adrenalectomy opportunities to 69% of patients judged through immunoassay to have bilateral disease. The secretion ratios (individual steroid concentration/total steroid concentration) of aldosterone, 18-oxocortisol, and 18-hydroxycortisol were novel indicators for identifying unilateral PA. The 18-oxocortisol secretion ratio of ≥0.785‰ (sensitivity/specificity: 0.90/0.77) at pre-ACTH and aldosterone secretion ratio of ≤0.637‰ (sensitivity/specificity: 0.88/0.85) at post-ACTH enabled optimal accuracy for predicting ipsilateral and contralateral disease, respectively, in robust unilateral PA. LC-MS/MS improved the success rate of AVS and identified more unilateral diseases than immunoassay. The secretion ratios of steroids can be used to discriminate the broad PA spectrum.

OBJECTIVES: To compare subjective and objective cognitive functions among patients at the following three stages of treatment for colorectal cancer (CRC): new diagnosis (Group A), ≤2 years since chemotherapy completion (Group B), and >2 years since chemotherapy completion (Group C). DATA SOURCES: A comparative cross-sectional approach was used in this study. The Functional Assessment of Cancer Therapy-Cognitive Function questionnaire and neuropsychological assessments were used to assess patients' subjective cognitive function, attention, memory, and executive functions. A total of 63 patients with stage I to III CRC were recruited from a medical center in northern Taiwan. We performed one-to-one-to-one propensity score matching to identify 36 individuals as eligible for this study. A generalized estimating equation was used to compare subjective and objective cognitive functions. CONCLUSION: We observed no significant between-group differences in subjective cognitive function and objective performance in overall cognition and memory. Group B had significantly longer reaction time in attention and processing speed than did Group A. Adjuvant chemotherapy had significantly deleterious effects on attention and processing speed in patients with CRC. These cognitive symptoms last for approximately 2 years after the completion of chemotherapy. IMPLICATIONS FOR NURSING PRACTICE: The early detection of cancer-related cognitive impairment is necessary for managing symptom distress. Future studies with a large sample size and longitudinal design may elucidate the trajectory of specific cognitive functions. Developing nursing interventions aimed at improving attention and executive function in patients with CRC are needed.

Amnestic mild cognitive impairment (aMCI) has been identified as a risk factor for dementia due to Alzheimer's disease. The medial temporal structures, which are crucial for memory processing, are the earliest affected regions in the brains of patients with aMCI, and episodic memory performance has been identified as a reliable way to discriminate between patients with aMCI and cognitively normal older adults. However, whether the detail and gist memory of patients with aMCI and cognitively normal older adults decay differently remains unclear. In this study, we hypothesized that detail and gist memory would be retrieved differentially, with a larger group performance gap in detail memory than in gist memory. In addition, we explored whether an increasing group performance gap between detail memory and gist memory groups would be observed over a 14-day period. Furthermore, we hypothesized that unisensory (audio-only) and multisensory (audiovisual) encoding would lead to differences in retrievals, with the multisensory condition reducing between and within-group performance gaps observed under the unisensory condition. The analyses conducted were analyses of covariance controlling for age, sex, and education and correlational analyses to examine behavioral performance and the association between behavioral data and brain variables. Compared with cognitively normal older adults, the patients with aMCI performed poorly on both detail and gist memory tests, and this performance gap persisted over time. Moreover, the memory performance of the patients with aMCI was enhanced by the provision of multisensory information, and bimodal input was significantly associated with medial temporal structure variables. Overall, our findings suggest that detail and gist memory decay differently, with a longer lasting group gap in gist memory than in detail memory. Multisensory encoding effectively reduced or overcame the between- and within-group gaps between time intervals, especially for gist memory, compared with unisensory encoding.

Activation and degranulation of mast cells (MCs) is an essential aspect of innate and adaptive immunity. Skin MCs, the most exposed to the external environment, are at risk of quickly degranulating with potentially severe consequences. Here, we define how MCs assume a tolerant phenotype via crosstalk with dermal fibroblasts (dFBs) and how this phenotype reduces unnecessary inflammation when in contact with beneficial commensal bacteria. We explore the interaction of human MCs (HMCs) and dFBs in the human skin microenvironment and test how this interaction controls MC inflammatory response by inhibiting the nuclear factor κB (NF-κB) pathway. We show that the extracellular matrix hyaluronic acid, as the activator of the regulatory zinc finger (de)ubiquitinating enzyme A20/tumor necrosis factor α-induced protein 3 (TNFAIP3), is responsible for the reduced HMC response to commensal bacteria. The role of hyaluronic acid as an anti-inflammatory ligand on MCs opens new avenues for the potential treatment of inflammatory and allergic disorders.

Defining the mechanisms safeguarding cell fate identity in differentiated cells is crucial to improve 1) - our understanding of how differentiation is maintained in healthy tissues or altered in a disease state, and 2) - our ability to use cell fate reprogramming for regenerative purposes. Here, using a genome-wide transcription factor screen followed by validation steps in a variety of reprogramming assays (cardiac, neural and iPSC in fibroblasts and endothelial cells), we identified a set of four transcription factors (ATF7IP, JUNB, SP7, and ZNF207 [AJSZ]) that robustly opposes cell fate reprogramming in both lineage and cell type independent manners. Mechanistically, our integrated multi-omics approach (ChIP, ATAC and RNA-seq) revealed that AJSZ oppose cell fate reprogramming by 1) - maintaining chromatin enriched for reprogramming TF motifs in a closed state and 2) - downregulating genes required for reprogramming. Finally, KD of AJSZ in combination with MGT overexpression, significantly reduced scar size and improved heart function by 50%, as compared to MGT alone post-myocardial infarction. Collectively, our study suggests that inhibition of barrier to reprogramming mechanisms represents a promising therapeutic avenue to improve adult organ function post-injury.

We explored positive and negative affect, quality of life (QOL), and associated factors in patients with pulmonary hypertension. We conducted this cross-sectional study using convenience sampling at a medical center in Taiwan. We used the Social Support Scale, positive and negative affect scale, and Short Form 36-item Health Survey to collect data. In these patients, greater social support was associated with less negative affect and better QOL (mental components). Lower Borg dyspnea scores or greater distances in the six-minute walk test were associated with more positive affect, less negative affect, and better QOL (both physical and mental components). Patients with less negative affect and more positive affect had better QOL (mental components). Therefore, nursing staff should routinely monitor the emotional status and QOL of patients with pulmonary hypertension, especially those with less social support and poorer cardiopulmonary function. Strengthening these aspects may improve patients' emotional status and QOL.

BACKGROUND: Improving the self-efficacy of intensive care unit nurses for delirium care could help them adapt to the changing situation of delirium patients. Validated measures of nurses' self-efficacy of delirium care are lacking OBJECTIVES: The objective of this study was to develop a Delirium Care Self-Efficacy Scale for assessing nurses' confidence about caring for patients in the intensive care unit and to examine the scale's psychometric properties. METHODS: Draft scale items were generated from a review of relevant literature and face-to-face interviews with intensive care unit nurses; content validity was conducted with a panel of five experts in delirium. A group of nurses were recruited by convenience sampling from intensive care units (N = 299) for item analysis of the questionnaire, assessment of validity, and reliability of the scale. Nurse participants were recruited from nine adult critical care units affiliated with a hospital in Taiwan. Data were collected from August 2020 to July 2021. RESULTS: Content validity index was 0.98 for the initial 26 items, indicating good validity. The critical ratio for item discrimination was 14.47-19.29, and item-to-total correlations ranged from 0.67 to 0.81. Principal component analysis reduced items to 13 and extracted two factors, confidence in delirium assessment and confidence in delirium management, which explained 66.82% of the total variance. Cronbach's alpha for internal consistency was 0.94 with good test-retest reliability (r = 0.92). High scale scores among participants were significantly associated with age (≥40 years), work experience in an intensive care unit (≥10 years), delirium education, and willingness to use delirium assessment tools. CONCLUSIONS: The newly developed Delirium Care Self-Efficacy Scale demonstrated acceptable reliability and validity as a measure of confidence for intensive care nurses caring for and managing patients with delirium in the intensive care unit.

@#Abstract:Pyroptosis is a new programmed cell death mode,which plays a dual role in the pathogenesis of hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC). On the one hand,inflammasomes causing pyroptosis and inflammatory mediators released during cell pyroptosis promote the occurrence and development of HCC;On the other hand,pyroptosis can inhibit the proliferation, metastasis and invasion of HCC cells. With the deepening of research,the role of pyroptosis in HCC has become increasingly prominent.
