BACKGROUND: The increasing global prevalence of cesarean scar endometriosis necessitates a thorough understanding of the risk factors for postoperative recurrence, as this is crucial for developing preventive strategies and informed decision-making. OBJECTIVE: To obtain insight into the clinical risk factors for postoperative recurrence of cesarean scar endometriosis following open lesion resection. STUDY DESIGN: The cohort for this study comprised 272 women, including 26 patients with postoperative recurrence and 246 without recurrence. Various parameters, including baseline characteristics, preoperative, intraoperative, and postoperative conditions, and follow-up information, were analyzed. A comparison of these parameters was made between patients with and without postoperative recurrence. Time-to-recurrence analyses were conducted using Cox's univariate and multivariate proportional hazard analyses, the Kaplan-Meier method, and the log-rank test. RESULTS: The results revealed significant differences between patients with and without postoperative recurrence in terms of visual analog scale for abdominal pain (P=.008), method of surgery (P<.001), and incision length (P=.002). The Cox proportional hazard model identified the visual analog scale for abdominal pain ≥4 as a significant risk factor for postoperative recurrence (hazard ratio, 3.72 [95% confidence interval, 1.65-8.43]; P=.002). In addition, patients who received removal of scar, excision of mass, and exploration underneath the scar (named as integrated excision) had a lower risk of recurrence than those who received local excision of mass (hazard ratio, 0.14 [95% confidence interval, 0.04-0.48]; P=.002). Furthermore, older patients (aged ≥35 years) were found to have a lower risk of postoperative recurrence than those <35 years (hazard ratio, 0.35 [95% confidence interval, 0.12-1.04]; P=.058). In addition, the depth of involvement was identified as a meaningful factor in postoperative recurrence for patients with local excision of mass, as determined by the log-rank test (P=.018). CONCLUSION: The study highlights that the visual analog scale for abdominal pain ≥4 is a risk factor for the recurrence of cesarean scar endometriosis after open lesion resection. Furthermore, the surgical method of integrated excision was identified as a protective factor.

Our aim was to investigate probable biomarkers specific to immune-related central nervous system toxicity (CNST) in cancer patients treated with immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICI) by analysis of 18F-FDG PET/CT images. Methods: Cancer patients receiving ICI treatment were enrolled in a multicenter observational study that analyzed regional metabolic changes before and during CNST onset from January 2020 to February 2022. In 1:1 propensity score-matched pairs, the regional SUVmean of each bilateral brain lobe of CNST patients (CNST+) was compared with that of patients who had central nervous system infections (CNSIs) and patients without CNST or CNSI (CNST-). In a validation cohort, patients were recruited from February 2022 to July 2023 and followed up for 24 wk after the start of ICI. Early changes in regional SUVmean at 5-6 wk after therapy initiation were evaluated for ability to predict later CNST onset. Results: Of 6,395 ICI-treated patients, 2,387 underwent prognostic 18F-FDG PET/CT and 125 of the scanned patients had CNST (median time from ICI treatment to onset, 9 wk; quartile range, 2-23 wk). Regional 18F-FDG PET/CT SUVmean changes were higher in CNST+ than in CNST- patients (117 patient pairs) but were lower than in CNSI patients (50 pairs). Differentiating analysis reached an area under the curve (AUC) of 0.83 (95% CI, 0.78-0.88) for CNST+ versus CNST- and of 0.80 (95% CI, 0.72-0.89) for CNST+ versus CNSI. Changes in SUVmean were also higher before CNST onset than for CNST- (60 pairs; AUC, 0.74; 95% CI, 0.66-0.83). In a validation cohort of 2,878 patients, preonset changes in SUVmean reached an AUC of 0.86 (95% CI, 0.79-0.94) in predicting later CNST incidence. Conclusion: Brain regional hypermetabolism could be detected during and before CNST clinical onset. CNST may be a distinct pathologic entity versus brain infections defined by 18F-FDG PET/CT brain scans. Regional SUV differences may be translated into early diagnostic tools based on moderate differentiating accuracy in our study.

Objective: This report summarizes the characteristics of a series of 8 recent (2020-2022) patients with abdominal wall endometriosis (AWE) who underwent laparoscopic surgery. The feasibility and advantages of laparoscopy in the treatment of AWE are set out. Methods: The clinical data of the 8 AWE patients were retrospectively analysed. Basic clinical characteristics, operation details and postoperative details were collected and analysed. Results: Laparoscopic treatment was successful in all 8 cases. The mean operation time was 212.13 ± 48.16 min, the mean estimated blood loss was 25.00 ± 11.18 ml, and the mean postoperative hospital stay was 5.25 ± 1.39 days. 7 of the patients were found to have concomitant pelvic endometriosis, and 1 patient was found to have concealed inguinal hernias during surgery. Concomitant laparoscopic surgery for pelvic lesions was performed, including electrocautery or lesion resection of the pelvic endometriosis lesions in 7 patients, uterine fibroidectomy in 2 patients, high ligation of the hernia sac in 1 patient and endometrial biopsy under hysteroscopy in 1 patient. Endometrial-like tissue was confirmed by postoperative pathological examination of resected AWE lesions in all patients. There were no intraoperative or postoperative complications. The mean follow-up time was 18.75 ± 3.96 months, and no recurrence of AWE was found. Conclusion: Laparoscopic surgery is a safe, effective and feasible treatment option for AWE patients and has the advantages of simultaneous diagnosis and treatment of other pelvic lesions.

Alternative polyadenylation (APA), an important post-transcriptional regulatory mechanism, is aberrantly activated in cancer,but how APA functions in tumorigenesis remains elusive. We analyzed APA events in RNA-seq data in TCGA and reported 3'UTR alterations associated with esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC) patient prognosis and gene expression changes involving loss of tumor-suppressive miRNA binding sites. Moreover, we investigated the expression and function of cleavage and polyadenylation specific factor 3 (CPSF3), a key APA regulator in ESCC. By immunohistochemistry and qRT-PCR, we found that CPSF3 was highly expressed in ESCC tissues and associated with poor patient prognosis. Overexpression of CPSF3 enhanced, while knockdown of CPSF3 inhibited ESCC cell proliferation and migration in vitro and in vivo, as determined by colony formation, transwell assays and animal experiments. Iso-Seq and RNA-seq data analysis indicated that knockdown of CPSF3 favored use of the distal poly (A) site in the 3'UTR of Cornichon family AMPA receptor auxiliary protein 2 (CNIH2), resulting in a long-3'UTR CNIH2 isoform that produced less CNIH2 protein due to miR-125a-5p targeting and downregulating CNIH2 mRNA through a miR-125a-5p binding site in the long CNIH2 mRNA 3'UTR. Moreover, CPSF3-induced ESCC tumorigenicity was mediated by CNIH2. Taken together, CPSF3 promotes ESCC progression by upregulating CNIH2 expression through loss of miR-125a-5p-mediated CNIH2 repression through alternative splicing and polyadenylation of the CNIH2 mRNA 3'UTR.

Background: Changes in body composition accompanied by glucagon-like peptide 1 receptor agonist (GLP-1RA) induced weight loss have drawn much attention. However, fewer studies have reported body composition changes in patients receiving dulaglutide therapy in Chinese population. Methods: A total of 70 overweight/obese type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) patients who received dulaglutide therapy were included. Clinical data were collected. Visceral fat area (VFA) and body composition were also measured. Changes in clinical indicators and body composition of patients before and after intervention were also analyzed. Correlation analysis and multiple linear regression model were used to evaluate the association between hemoglobin A1C (HbA1c) and body composition. Results: The results showed that body weight (BW), VFA, body fat (BF), lean body mass (LBM), skeletal muscle mass (SMM) and water content were reduced after 3 months dulaglutide intervention. The lean body mass percentage (LBMP) and skeletal muscle mass percentage (SMMP) significantly increased. Moreover, there was no significant difference in bone mineral quality (BMQ) after the intervention. The multiple linear regression model revealed that the % change in BF was independently associated with % change in HbA1c (ß = 0.449, t = 3.148, p=0.002). Conclusion: These results indicate that dulaglutide intervention does not cause muscle and bone mass loss while inducing weight loss, and % change in BF was independently associated with improved glucose control during dulaglutide therapy. This study offers some positive results to support the clinical application of dulaglutide.

Micro/nanomotors (MNMs) have evolved from single self-propelled entities to versatile systems capable of performing one or multiple biomedical tasks. When single MNMs self-assemble into coordinated swarms, either under external control or triggered by chemical reactions, they offer advantages that individual MNMs cannot achieve. These benefits include intelligent multitasking and adaptability to changes in the surrounding environment. Here, we provide our perspective on the evolution of MNMs, beginning with the development of enzymatic MNMs since the first theoretical model was proposed in 2005. These enzymatic MNMs hold immense promise in biomedicine due to their advantages in biocompatibility and fuel availability. Subsequently, we introduce the design and application of single motors in biomedicine, followed by the control of MNM swarms and their biomedical applications. In the end, we propose viable solutions for advancing the development of MNM swarms and anticipate valuable insights into the creation of more intelligent and controllable MNM swarms for biomedical applications.

Boron is an essential trace element with roles in growth, development, and physiological functions; however, its mechanism of action is still unclear. In this study, the regulatory roles of the PI3K/Akt signaling pathway on boron-induced changes in barrier function, proliferation, and apoptosis in rat intestinal epithelial cells were evaluated. Occludin levels, the proportion of cells in the G2/M phase, cell proliferation rate, and mRNA and protein expression levels of PCNA were higher, while the proportions of cells in the G0/G1 and S phases, apoptosis rate, and caspase-3 mRNA and protein expression levels were lower in cells treated with 0.8 mmol/L boron than in control IEC-6 cells (P < 0.01 or P < 0.05). However, 40 mmol/L boron decreased ZO-1 and Occludin levels, the proportion of cells in the G2/M phase, cell proliferation rate, and mRNA and protein levels of PCNA and increased the apoptosis rate and caspase-3 mRNA expression (P < 0.01 or P < 0.05). After specifically blocking PI3K and Akt signals (using LY294002 and MK-2206 2HCL), 0.8 mmol/L boron had no effects on Occludin, PCNA level, apoptosis rates, and caspase-3 levels (P < 0.05); however, the proliferation rate and PCNA levels decreased significantly (P < 0.01 or P < 0.05). The addition of 40 mmol/L boron did not affect ZO-1 and Occludin levels and did not affect the apoptosis rate or PCNA and caspase-3 levels. These results suggested that the PI3K/Akt signaling pathway mediates the effects of low-dose boron on IEC-6 cells.

Boron is one of the essential trace elements in animals. Although boron supplementation can enhance immune function and promote cell proliferation, high-dose boron supplementation can negatively affect immune function and inhibit cell proliferation. Furthermore, its action pathway is unknown. In this study, ERK1/2, JNK, and p38MAPK signaling pathways were blocked using specific blockers to investigate the impact of low-dose and high-dose boron on proliferation, apoptosis, and immune function of lymphocytes, and the expression of genes related to cell proliferation and apoptosis in rats. The addition of 0.4 mmol/L boron did not affect the ratio of CD4+/CD8+ T cells (P>0.05), IgG and IFN-γ contents (P>0.05), the proliferation rate of lymphocytes (P>0.05), and mRNA and protein expressions of PCNA (P>0.05) in the spleen after ERK1/2 signal pathway was selectively inhibited. Moreover, the addition of 40 mmol/L boron did not affect the proportion of CD4+ T cells, contents of IgG and cytokines (IL-2 and IL-4), proliferation and apoptosis rates of lymphocytes, and expression of proliferation- and apoptosis-related genes in the spleen. Meanwhile, the addition of 0.4 mmol/l boron increased the ratio of CD4+/CD8+ T cells (P<0.05 or P<0.01), IFN-γ or IgG contents (P<0.05), and the proliferation rate of lymphocytes (P<0.05) in spleen after selective inhibition of JNK or p38MAPK signaling pathways, while the protein expression of Caspase-3 decreased (P<0.05 or P<0.01). Furthermore, 40 mmol/L boron decreased the proportion of lymphocyte subsets, cytokine contents, proliferation rate of lymphocytes, and mRNA and protein expressions of PCNA. In contrast, the mRNA and protein expressions of Caspase-3 and protein expression of Bax were increased. These results indicate that ERK1/2 signaling pathway mainly regulates the effects of low-dose and high-dose boron on proliferation, apoptosis, and immune function of splenic lymphocytes.

BACKGROUND: Ovarian cancer is difficult to treat and is, therefore, associated with a high fatality rate. Although targeted therapy and immunotherapy have been successfully used clinically to improve the diagnosis and treatment of ovarian cancer, most tumors become drug resistant, and patients experience relapse, meaning that the overall survival rate remains low. AIMS: There is currently a lack of effective biomarkers for predicting the prognosis and/or outcomes of patients with ovarian cancer. Therefore, we used published transcriptomic data derived from a large ovarian cancer sample set to establish a molecular subtyping model of the core genes involved in necroptosis in ovarian cancer. METHODS AND RESULTS: Clustering analysis and differential gene expression analyses were performed to establish the genomic subtypes related to necroptosis and to explore the patterns of regulatory gene expression related to necroptosis in ovarian cancer. A necroptosis scoring system (NSS) was established using principal component analysis according to different regulatory patterns of necroptosis. In addition, this study revealed important biological processes with essential roles in the regulation of ovarian tumorigenesis, including external encapsulating structure organization, leukocyte migration, oxidative phosphorylation, and focal adhesion. Patients with high NSS scores had unique immunophenotypes, such as more abundant M2 macrophages, monocytes, CD4+ memory T cells, and regulatory T cells. Immune checkpoint CD274 had a greater expression in patients with high NSS values. CONCLUSION: This NSS could be used as an independent predictor of prognosis to determine the sensitivity of ovarian cancer to various small-molecule inhibitors, immune checkpoint inhibitors, and platinum-based chemotherapy drugs.

The proper supplementation of boron, an essential trace element, can enhance animal immune function. We utilized the method of TMT peptide labeling in conjunction with LC-MS/MS quantitative proteomics for the purpose of examining the effects of boric acid on a rat model and analyzing proteins from the duodenum. In total, 5594 proteins were obtained from the 0, 10, and 320 mg/L boron treatment groups. Two hundred eighty-four proteins that exhibit differential expression were detected. Among the comparison, groups of 0 vs. 10 mg/L, 0 vs. 320 mg/L, and 10 vs. 320 mg/L of boron, 110, 32, and 179 proteins, respectively, demonstrated differential expression. The results revealed that these differential expression proteins (DEPs) mainly clustered into two profiles. GO annotations suggested that most of the DEPs played a role in the immune system process, in which 2'-5'-oligoadenylate synthetase-like, myxovirus resistance 1, myxovirus resistance 2, dynein cytoplasmic 1 intermediate chain 1, and coiled-coil domain containing 88B showed differential expression. The DEPs had demonstrated an augmentation in the signaling pathways, which primarily include phagosome, antigen processing, and presentation, as well as cell adhesion molecules (CAMs). Our study found that immune responses in the duodenum were enhanced by lower doses of boron and that this effect is likely mediated by changes in protein expression patterns in related signaling pathways. It offers an in-depth understanding of the underlying molecular mechanisms that lead to immune modulation in rats subjected to dietary boron treatment.

A highly stable and luminescent lead-free manganese(II) halide hybrid MnBr4(TMN)2 (C34H42Br4MnN4) was designed and synthesized by introducing a large cationic organic spacer. The MnBr4(TMN)2 displays high luminescence with quantum yields up to 77% and possesses turn-off fluorescence behavior (Ex/Em=365/546 nm) for water. These properties make the MnBr4(TMN)2 a promising candidate as an alternative indicator for the detection of water with potential applications for the fabrication of LEDs. Herein, a paper-based sensor based on MnBr4(TMN)2 is described for the determination of water content in organic solvents. The mechanism of water sensing can be tentatively explained by fluorescence quenching originating from the destruction of water due to the Mn-Br bonds of MnBr4(TMN)2. The MnBr4(TMN)2-based paper sensor exhibits an excellent discrimination ability of water content in the range 0-25.0% with a detection limit of 0.27%. Satisfactory recoveries (94.91±4.09% to 103.23±2.38%) are obtained in spiked ethanol solvent samples, which demonstrate that the MnBr4(TMN)2-based paper sensor is capable of detecting water content in real ethanol solvent samples.

Introduction: Although there is extended research on the response to severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) vaccines in adult cancer patients (ACP), the immunogenicity to the variants of concern (VOCs) in childhood cancer patients (CCP) and safety profiles are now little known. Methods: A prospective, multi-center cohort study was performed by recruiting children with a solid cancer diagnosis and childhood healthy control (CHC) to receive standard two-dose SARS-CoV-2 vaccines. An independent ACP group was included to match CCP in treatment history. Humoral response to six variants was performed and adverse events were followed up 3 months after vaccination. Responses to variants were compared with ACP and CHC by means of propensity score-matched (PSM) analysis. Results: The analysis included 111 CCP (27.2%, median age of 8, quartile 5.5-15 years), 134 CHC (32.8%), and 163 ACP (40.0%), for a total 408 patients. Pathology included carcinoma, neural tumors, sarcoma, and germ cell tumors. Median chemotherapy time was 7 (quartile, 5-11) months. In PSM sample pairs, the humoral response of CCP against variants was significantly decreased, and serology titers (281.8 ± 315.5 U/ml) were reduced, as compared to ACP (p< 0.01 for the rate of neutralization rate against each variant) and CHC (p< 0.01 for the rate of neutralization against each variant) groups. Chemotherapy time and age (Pearson r ≥ 0.8 for all variants) were associated with the humoral response against VOCs of the CHC group. In the CCP group, less than grade II adverse events were observed, including 32 patients with local reactions, and 29 patients had systemic adverse events, including fever (n = 9), rash (n = 20), headache (n = 3), fatigue (n = 11), and myalgia (n = 15). All reactions were well-managed medically. Conclusions: The humoral response against VOCs after the CoronaVac vaccination in CCP was moderately impaired although the vaccine was safe. Age and chemotherapy time seem to be the primary reason for poor response and low serology levels.

Background: Cancer-related cognitive decline is a serious problem in long-term survival but no pivotal study has investigated whether checkpoint inhibitors (ICI) may be associated with cognitive adverse events. Methods: This propensity score-matched analysis recruited non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) patients prescribed with or without ICI monotherapy from three Chinese tertiary hospitals. Patients were excluded from study who developed brain metastasis or had disorders severely affecting cognitive abilities. Primary outcomes were changes in neuropsychological battery test (NBT) at baseline, 6- and 12-month sessions, and any NBT score changes that exceeded 3∗SD of baseline scores would be marked as objective cognitive adverse events (CoAE). Secondary endpoint was the 20-item Perceived Cognitive Impairment (PCI) sub-scale score change in Functional Assessment of Cancer Therapy-Cognitive Function questionnaire, administered at baseline, 3-, 6-, 9-, 12-, and 15-month follow-up session. Per-protocol ICI and control arms were matched with propensity scores that incorporated baseline variables to compare both NBT and PCI assessment results. Patients participating in PCI assessments were analysed in intention-to-treat analysis. Kaplan-Meier survival curves with log-rank tests were adopted to analyse incidence of perceived cognitive decline events (PCDE). Findings: Between March 12, 2020, and March 28, 2021, 908 participants were enrolled. Compared to control, 3 of 4 subtest of NBT scores in ICI arm showed significant cognitive decline in 6- and 12-month sessions, in which Trail Making Test score change (13.56 ± 11.73) reached threshold of cognitive deficit diagnosis in the 12-month session. In 1:1 matched 292 pairs from 908 patients, PCI score changes in ICI arms were -4.26 ± 8.54 (3rd month), -4.72 ± 11.83 (6th month), -6.16 ± 15.41 (9th month), -6.07 ± 15.71 (12th month), and -7.96 ± 13.97 (15th month). The scores were significantly lower than control arm in 3-, 6-, and 12-session follow-up. The result was validated after adjusting quality of life scores and in intention-to-treat analysis. Mean PCI change exceeded 1/2 SD of baseline PCI score (5.81) in 9-, 12-, and 15-month sessions in ICI arm, but not in control arm. PCDE incidence/prevalence was significantly higher in ICI arm (incidence 26.4% vs. 5.1%, and prevalence 16.2% vs. 1.7%). Immune-related adverse events related to incidence of PCDE after adjusting for baseline variables. Interpretation: ICI monotherapy seemed to relate to higher cognitive decline represented by score changes and incidence/prevalence rates. The decline deteriorated as treatment progressed, and immune-related adverse events seemed to be associated with higher cognitive adverse events incidence in the ICI treatment. Context: Severe acute respiratory syndrome-coronavirus 2 (COVID-19) vaccines may incur changes in thyroid functions followed by mood changes, and patients with Hashimoto thyroiditis (HT) were suggested to bear a higher risk. Objectives: We primarily aim to find whether COVID-19 vaccination could induce potential subsequent thyroid function and mood changes. The secondary aim was to find inflammatory biomarkers associated with risk. Methods: The retrospective, multi-center study recruited patients with HT receiving COVID-19-inactivated vaccines. C-reactive proteins (CRPs), thyroid-stimulating hormones (TSHs), and mood changes were studied before and after vaccination during a follow-up of a 6-month period. Independent association was investigated between incidence of mood state, thyroid functions, and inflammatory markers. Propensity score-matched comparisons between the vaccine and control groups were carried out to investigate the difference. Results: Final analysis included 2,765 patients with HT in the vaccine group and 1,288 patients in the control group. In the matched analysis, TSH increase and mood change incidence were both significantly higher in the vaccine group (11.9% versus 6.1% for TSH increase and 12.7% versus 8.4% for mood change incidence). An increase in CRP was associated with mood change (p< 0.01 by the Kaplan-Meier method) and severity (r = 0.75) after vaccination. Baseline CRP, TSH, and antibodies of thyroid peroxidase (anti-TPO) were found to predict incidence of mood changes. Conclusion: COVID-19 vaccination seemed to induce increased levels and incidence of TSH surge followed by mood changes in patients with HT. Higher levels of pre-vaccine serum TSH, CRP, and anti-TPO values were associated with higher incidence in the early post-vaccine phase.

This study investigated the effects of heavy metals on the species diversity of the Xinjian Dyke Wetland, an ecosystem where reclaimed farmlands are being transformed back into wetlands through the introduction of indigenous plants. The sources of soil heavy metals were analyzed, and correlation analyses were conducted to assess the relationships between heavy metal content and biodiversity indices. The results indicated that (1) the mean contents of Hg, Cd, Cu, Zn, As, Cr, and Pb were higher than the control values, with the content of Hg, Cd, Cu, and Zn exceeding the national standard; (2) the soil heavy metals mainly came from pesticides, chemical fertilizer, transportation, sewage irrigation, and the soil matrix; and (3) Hg and As were not significantly correlated with the diversity indices, but there was a highly positive correlation for Cu, Cr, and Pb, and a significant negative correlation for Zn and Cd. Collectively, our findings indicated that heavy metals have different effects on the plant species diversity inXinjian Dyke reconstruction area. The ecological restoration of wetlands from reclaimed farmlands should reasonably increase tolerant species and maximize the ecological niche differentiation of the species. Moreover, functionally redundant species should not be planted.

The regeneration of dental pulp tissue is very important, but difficult, in dentistry. The biocompatibility, water content, and viscoelastic properties of pulp-like tissue must be optimized to achieve the efficient transfer of metabolites and nutrients, a suitable degradation rate, distribution of encapsulated cells, injectability, and gelation in situ under physiological conditions. As promising materials for pulp regeneration, hydrogel scaffolds have been produced to simulate the extracellular matrix and transmit signaling molecules. It is imperative to develop hydrogels to effectively regenerate pulp tissue for clinical application. Here, two injectable double-network (DN) hydrogel-based three-dimensional (3D) cell culture systems were developed for regenerating dental pulp. The microstructure, mechanical property, rheology property, and degradation behavior of the injectable DN glycol chitosan-based hydrogels in a simulated root canal model were characterized and compared to a single-network (SN) glycol chitosan-based hydrogel. Human dental pulp stem cells (hDPSCs) were then encapsulated into the GC-based hydrogels for the regeneration of pulp tissue, and the biological performance was investigated both in vitro and in vivo. The results showed that the DN hydrogels had ideal injectability under physiological conditions due to the dynamic nature of the crosslinks. Besides, the DN hydrogels exhibited better mechanical properties and longer degradation duration than the corresponding SN hydrogel. As a 3D cell culture system, the characteristics of the DN hydrogel facilitated odontogenic differentiation and mineralization of hDPSCs in vitro. Further in vivo analysis confirmed that the chemical composition, matrix stiffness, and degradation rate of the DN hydrogel matched those of pulp-like fibrous connective tissue, which might be related to Smad3 activation. These findings demonstrate that DN glycol chitosan-based hydrogels are suitable for the regeneration of pulp tissue.

The feasibility of using nanomotors as active probes for lateral flow immunoassay (LFIA) is demonstrated. We synthesized Au@mSiO2@Pt Janus nanomotor, where nanolayer of Pt was deposited on the half side surface of the Au@mSiO2 nanoparticles, which can catalyze the decomposition of H2O2 to produce driving force for the nanomotor. Subsequently, the motion characteristics of the Au@mSiO2@Pt nanomotor in static fluidic environment and dynamic flow field was studied to pave the way for its practical application in lateral flow immunoassay (LFIA). At last, the Au@mSiO2@Pt nanomotor was modified with antibody and then used as active immunoassay probe in LFIA. We chose gastric function index, pepsinogen II (PG II) and pepsinogen II (PG II), as the target analytes. The results indicated that, compared with traditional Au nanoprobe, the nanomotor-based probe can significantly improve the sensitivity by increasing the probability and efficiency of antigen and antibody binding. A limit of detection (LOD) of 2.2 ng/mL for PGI, and 2.1 ng/mL for PG II was achieved. This work provides a new solution for enhancing the capability of immune detection, and we believe the nanomotor-based LFIA will have great potential in high-sensitivity point-of-care-testing in the future.

Infectious bronchitis virus (IBV) has gained increasing attention in the poultry industry due to its ability to cause tissue injuries not only in the respiratory system and kidney but also in the reproductive system of layers. Recently, the GVI-1 lineage IBVs have spread widely in China, whereas their pathogenicity in egg-laying chickens has rarely been studied, especially its long-term influence in egg production upon the early infection in chicks. In this study, 10-day-old SPF chicks were infected with the GVI-1 lineage JX181 strain and monitored over a 170-day period after infection. The pathogenicity evaluation of the JX181 strain included clinical observations, immunohistochemical assay, viral load, viral shedding, gross autopsy, and laying rate. The results showed that JX181 has a high pathogenicity, causing severe system lesions, and the decrease in egg production. In summary, this study describes the long-term damages caused by the early infection with the IBV GVI-1 lineage on the reproductive system of hens, providing a comprehensive understanding of the pathogenicity of the IBV GVI-1 lineage and emphasizing the importance of its early prevention.
