AIM: To compare the damage of light-emitting diodes (LEDs) with different color rendering indexes (CRIs) to the ocular surface and retina of rats. METHODS: Totally 20 Sprague-Dawley (SD) rats were randomly divided into four groups: the first group was normal control group without any intervention, other three groups were exposed by LEDs with low (LED-L), medium (LED-M), and high (LED-H) CRI respectively for 12h a day, continuously for 4wk. The changes in tear secretion (Schirmer I test, SIt), tear film break-up time (BUT), and corneal fluorescein sodium staining (CFS) scores were compared at different times (1d before experiment, 2 and 4wk after the experiment). The histopathological changes of rat lacrimal gland and retina were observed at 4wk, and the expressions of tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α) and interleukin-6 (IL-6) in lacrimal gland were detected by immunofluorescence method. RESULTS: With the increase of light exposed time, the CFS value of each light exposed group continued to increase, and the BUT and SIt scores continued to decrease, which were different from the control group, and the differences between the light exposed groups were statistically significant. Hematoxylin-eosin (HE) results showed that the lacrimal glands of each exposed group were seen varying degrees of acinar atrophy, vacuole distribution, increasing of eosinophil granules, etc.; the retina showed obvious reduction of photoreceptor cell layer and changes in retinal thickness; LED-L group has the most significant change in all tests. Immunofluorescence suggested that the positive expressions of TNF-α and IL-6 in the lacrimal glands of each exposed group were higher than those of the control group. CONCLUSION: LED exposure for 4wk can cause the pathological changes of lacrimal gland and retina of rats, and increase the expression of TNF-α and IL-6 in lacrimal gland, the degree of damage is negatively correlated with the CRI.

BACKGROUND: Osteoporosis is a disease with a high prevalence and low treatment rate, which poses a serious threat to the lives of patients and brings a heavy economic burden. Clinical practice guidelines (CPGs) provide vital guidance for disease management. Up to now, different countries, regions, and organizations have issued a certain number of CPGs for osteoporosis, but the recommendations in different guidelines are inconsistent. This protocol plans to evaluate the quality of the CPGs for osteoporosis and then make a comparative analysis of the recommendations in the CPGs. METHODS: Several databases including PubMed, Web of Science, Embase, and Cochrane Library, as well as the official website of relevant organizations will be searched. Screen and data extraction will be performed by two reviewers independently, and the third reviewer help to resolve the divergence between them. Using the AGREE II instrument and RIGHT checklist to assess the methodological and reporting quality of the CPGs. The extracted recommendations, including but not limited to screening, diagnosis, evaluation and treatment, will be summarized and analyzed, and the results will be presented in tabular form. Bubble charts will be used to show quality differences between CPGs and to describe the correlation between methodological and reporting quality through regression analysis. Excel, EndnoteX9 and SPSS 25.0 will be used. RESULT: To evaluate the advantages and disadvantages of the existing CPGs of osteoporosis and analyze the similarities and differences between the recommendations, the results will be published in a peer-reviewed journal. CONCLUSION: This study will provide systematic evidence for existing CPGs of osteoporosis and to provide a reference for CPGs users. PROTOCOL REGISTRATION: INPLASY 202070031.

BACKGROUND: The outbreak of the novel coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), caused by severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) infection, has emerged to be the biggest global health threat worldwide. COVID-19 marks the emergence of the third large-scale epidemic related to the coronavirus, after SARS-CoV in 2002 and Middle-East respiratory syndrome coronavirus (MERSCoV) in 2012. The pandemic has had a harmful effect on the public mental health, especially on depression. Increasing systematic reviews (SRs) of coronavirus were focusing on depression. However, the methodological quality of these SRs is unclear. Therefore, to evaluate and compare the normativity of report of SR, we conducted a comprehensive overview of depression during the SARS, MERS, and COVID-19 pandemics. METHODS: Two independent reviewers will conduct comprehensively searches in PubMed, EMBASE.com, Web of Science, the Cochrane Library, Chinese biomedical literature database (CBM), Chinese National Knowledge Infrastructure (CNKI), Wan fang Database, Chongqing VIP (CQVIP). Reference lists of articles, gray literature, and conference proceedings will also be searched. We will extract the data and assess the methodological quality using the Assessment of Multiple Systematic Reviews-2 (AMSTAR-2) measurement tool and the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) statement. General characteristics of the eligible SRs will be summarized and described. We will provide AMSTAR-2 and PRISMA assessments in tabular form for each review, the total percentage of each item will be calculated. Endnote X8 and EXCEL will be used. RESULTS: Using the draft search strategy of databases, 8 SRs met the a priori criteria and were included. The overview of SRs will be published in a peer-reviewed journal. CONCLUSION: Our overview will be a comprehensive synthesis of the existing systemic review on depression with SARS, MERS, and COVID-19. PROTOCOL REGISTRATION: INPLASY202080003.

BACKGROUND: Depression as a clinically significant and growing public health issue is the third leading cause of disability. Adolescent-onset depression has been associated with psychiatric, anxiety disorders, suicidality, medical comorbidities, and an elevated risk of major depressive disorder episodes later in life. How to effectively identify, prevent, and treat depression has become one of the key points of discussion among medical institutions/departments. With the importance of depression being emphasized, countries/organizations around the world have developed guidelines for clinical practice related to depression for different groups of people to guide medical staff to implement scientific, effective, and standardized depression management. However, the quality of such guidelines is not yet clear, which is not conducive to the selection of medical staff and affects clinical application to a certain extent. This study aims to evaluate the rigor of the development of clinical practice guidelines (CPGs) for depression in children and adolescents and will identify, in these documents, the recommendations for depression in children and adolescents. METHODS: Electronic databases and specific databases of CPGs will be searched. Study selection and data extraction will be performed independently by 2 reviewers. The AGREE II Instrument and RIGHT checklist will be used to assess the methodological quality and reporting quality of included CPGs about depression in children and adolescents. We will also analyze consistency and inconsistency of the recommendations in CPGs, including assessment, diagnosis, screening, treatment, and management. Bubble charts will be used to show the differences in methodological and reporting quality. Subgroup analysis will be conducted according to the result of evaluation. Excel and Endnote X9 will be used. RESULTS: Using the search drafts of electronic databases, we included 6 CPGs. The results of our study will be published in a peer-reviewed journal. CONCLUSIONS: Our study will provide systematic evidence for existing CPGs for depression in children and adolescents and provide a guidance for CPGs users. PROTOCOL REGISTRATION: INPLASY202080002.

Coronavirus disease 2019(COVID-19) is a newly emerged and highly contagious respiratory disease. Traditional Chinese medicine(TCM) has both systematism theory knowledge and clinical practical value in the prevention and treatment of COVID-19. Therefore, it was particularly important to examine the effect of TCM in the prevention and treatment of COVID-19. The patents of TCM might reflect the latest progression of scientific research. We aimed to provide reference for the prevention and treatment of COVID-19 by extracting and analyzing the TCM patents from the Patent Information Sharing Platform of COVID-19. The antiviral TCM patents were screened and exported from the Patent Information Sharing Platform. VOSviewer 1.6.14 was used to visualize and analyze the network of TCM in these patents. There were total 292 TCM patents, including 52 patents for etiological treatment and 240 patents for symptomatic treatment. Thirty-two provinces and 1 076 inventors were involved, mainly from Beijing, Guangdong and Jiangsu. Overall, there were 356 TCMs, 71 single prescriptions, and 221 compound prescriptions. The patents for treatment of coronavirus mainly focused on the treatment of coronavirus, while the patents for symptomatic treatment mainly focuses on the improvement of respiratory symptoms, such as fever and cough. There were 14 highly frequently used TCMs, including Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma, Scutellariae Radix, Lonicerae Japonicae Flos, Forsythiae Fructus, Isatidis Radix, Astragali Radix, Menthae Haplocalycis Herba, Gypsum Fibrosum, Houttuyniae Herba, Isatidis Folium, Rhei Radix et Rhizoma, Gardeniae Fructus, Platycodonis Radix, Armeniacae Semen Amarum. The analyzed results of the TCM patents from the patent information sharing platform of COVID-19 were consistent with the Guideline of Diagnosis and Treatment of COVID-19(7th edition), and the combination of TCM in each cluster may also provide future directions for drug compatibility.

We conducted a 12-month fine root decomposition experiment under 19-year-old Mytilaria laosensis and Cunninghamia lanceolate plantations to explore the dynamics of nutrient concentration and microbial community composition. The aim of this study was to provide insights into nutrient cycling under plantations with different tree species. Our results showed that the initial concentrations of phosphorus (P) and potassium (K) were significantly higher in the fine root of M. laosensis than those in C. lanceolata, which significantly decreased with decomposition. Nitrogen (N) concentration in fine roots of both species increased with decay time. The variation of N concentration in fine root of C. lanceolata lagged behind that in M. laosensis. During the decomposition, magnesium (Mg) concentration in fine root of C. lanceolata showed no significant changes, but that of M. laosensis decreased at the initial decay stage and increased thereafter and was significantly lower than that of C. lanceolata at the 8th month. The ratio of fungi to bacteria (F/B) of both species decreased at the initial stage and then increased, with significantly higher F/B in fine root of M. laosensis than that of C. lanceolate after one-year decay. Redundancy analysis (RDA) showed that changes in N and K concentrations and C/N ratio explained 37.2%, 14.5% and 14.8% of the variations in microbial community composition of C. lanceolata fine root respectively. However, during the decay of M. laosensis fine root, concentrations of Mg and K were key factors, accounting for 35.9% and 17.6% of the variations in microbial community composition, respectively. We concluded that other nutrients beyond N, such as Mg, might also be an important factor affecting root decomposition in different tree species.

OBJECTIVE: To investigate whether single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) in DNA repair gene XPD751 is associated with sensitivity and time to progression (TTP) for platinum-containing combination chemotherapy in advanced colorectal carcinoma. METHODS: A total of 98 patients pathologically diagnosed as advanced colorectal cancer were treated with FOLFOX chemotherapy. TheDNA of peripheral blood-leukocytes was obtained before treatment, and XPD genetype was detected by PCR-RFLP analysis. RESULTS: The frequency of XPD751 Lys/lys was 76 cases (77.6%), lys/Gln 17 cases (17.4%), and Gln/Gln genetype 5 cases (5.1%). The effective rate of FOLFOX chemotherapy among patients with XPD751 Lys/lys was 50.0%, lys/Gln 29.4%, and Gln/Gln genetypes 20.0%. The difference between Lys/lys and lys/Gln was statistically significant, χ(2) = 4.04, P < 0.05. The results indicated that the failure of chemotherapy in patients with Lys/Lys genetype was 3.8-fold to those with Lys/Gln, by adjusting of gender, age, and tumor metastasis (OR = 3.800). The MTTP of the 98 patients was 10.1 months. The MTTP was 11.3 months for patients with Lys/Lys genotypes of XPD751 gene and 2.9 months for patients with Lys/Gln and Gln/Gln genotypes of XPD751 gene, the difference between Lys/Lys and at least one Gln was significant (P < 0.05). CONCLUSIONS: Single nucleotide polymorphism of XPD751 correlates with the clinical response to FOLFOX chemotherapy. XPD751 genetic polymorphisms may be associated with TTP of advanced colorectal carcinoma patients treated with oxaliplatin as the first line chemotherapy. XPD751 genotype detected by the PCR-RFLP method may be a predictor of prognosis for FOLFOX chemotherapy.

PURPOSE: To measure the effect of disinfection on dimension stability of alginate, hydrocolloid, and Express putty impressions which were separately immersed in 2% glutaraldehyde solution and 1% 84 disinfector. METHODS: Alginate, hydrocolloid, and Express putty impressions were made by 20 mm x 20 mm x 40 mm standards test wares. There were 45 in each kind of test wares. They were divided into 9 groups and 5 pieces in every group. Among them, one group using clear water to flush acted as the matched control, the other groups received respectively 2% glutaraldehyde solution and 1% 84 disinfector immersed in 10 minutes, 20 minutes, 30 minutes. After two hours, the spiral instrument was used to measure the model. The experiment data were analyzed by using the SPSS 11.0 statistic software package. RESULTS: There was no significant difference in pure water flush and spraying treatment respectively. There was significant difference for alginate and hydrocolloid impression was immersed before and after. There was no significant difference for Express putty silicon rubber impression materials before and after immersion. There was no significant difference in 2% glutaraldehyde solution and 1% 84 disinfector when impressions were immersed in. CONCLUSION: Alginate, hydrocolloid and Express putty impressions immersed in 2% glutaraldehyde solution and 1% 84 disinfector separately for 20 minutes does not affect the accuracy, and can be used clinically.
