RESUMEN

Background: Infections of Coronavirus Disease-2019 (COVID-19) and the subsequent quarantine can culminate in anxious mood and sleep disturbances. The objective of this clinical trial was to investigate the effect of traditional Qigong with music therapy on relieving anxiety and improving the quality of sleep in Chinese adults with COVID-19 infection. Methods: A total of 200 asymptomatic COVID-19 infected patients were randomly assigned into two groups during their quarantine period in Chongming Island, Shanghai. The patients in the treatment group daily received Baduanjin Qigong, five-elements music therapy and routine care, while the patients in the control group only took the routine care. The primary outcome was anxiety levels measured by the 7-item Generalized Anxiety Disorder scale (GAD-7). Secondary outcomes included the quality of sleep measured by the Jenkins Sleep Scale (JSS), the degree of depression measured by the Patient Health Questionnaire (PHQ-9), as well as the self-efficacy in the Perceived Health Competence Scale (PHCS). An online questionnaire was given to all participants on the day of arrival to determine the baseline for all outcomes and then given again on the day of discharge. A one-way analysis of covariance was used to analyze the differences between the two groups after intervention. Results: At the end of the intervention, 177 (88.5%) patients finished the questionnaire. Patients in the treatment group had clearly decreased GAD-7 scores (MD = 2.7, 95% CI = 2.3, 3.2) after the daily exercise and music. Patients in the control group had little changes in the GAD-7 (MD = -0.2, 95%CI = -0.7, 0.3, P = 0.07), as well as the PHQ-9 (MD = 0.1, 95%CI = -0.5, 0.6, P = 0.66) after the routine care, when compared to their baseline scores. There were statistical between-group differences in GAD-7 (MD = 2.9, 95% CI = 2.2, 3.6, P < 0.001)and in the PHQ-9 scores (MD = 3.6, 95% CI = 2.9, 4.4, P < 0.001) at the post-treatment. Compared with the control group, patients had significantly lower scores on the JSS (MD = 2.7, 95% CI = 2.0, 3.3, P < 0.001), and higher scores on the PHCS (MD = -5.0, 95% CI = -6.1, -3.9, P < 0.001) after receiving Qigong and the music therapy. Conclusion: Traditional Baduanjin Qigong and five-elements music therapy help to relieve anxiety and depression, and improve the sleep quality in patients with COVID-19 infection. (1) Background: Goose meat is highly valued for its economic significance and vast market potential due to its desirable qualities, including a rich nutritional profile, tender texture, relatively low-fat content, and high levels of beneficial unsaturated fatty acids. However, there is an urgent need to improve goose breeding by identifying molecular markers associated with meat quality. (2) Methods: We evaluated meat quality traits, such as meat color, shear force (SF), cooking loss rate (CLR), and crude fat content (CFC), in a population of 215 male Sichuan white geese at 70 days of age. A GWAS was performed to identify potential molecular markers associated with goose meat quality. Furthermore, the selected SNPs linked to meat quality traits were genotyped using the MALDI-TOP MS method. (3) Results: A dataset of 2601.19 Gb of WGS data was obtained from 215 individuals, with an average sequencing depth of 10.89×. The GWAS revealed the identification of 43 potentially significant SNP markers associated with meat quality traits in the Sichuan white goose population. Additionally, 28 genes were identified as important candidate genes for meat quality. The gene enrichment analysis indicated a substantial enrichment of genes within a 1Mb vicinity of SNPs in both the protein digestion and absorption pathway and the Glycerolipid metabolism pathway. (4) Conclusion: This study provides valuable insights into the genetic and molecular mechanisms underlying goose meat quality traits, offering crucial references for molecular breeding in this field.

Postoperative adhesion may form as the result of a complicated fibrosis and inflammatory response, thus leads to a series of complications or increases the risk of surgery failure. Herein, we prepared poly (lactic-co-glycolic acid)-graft-polyvinylpyrrolidone/polyiodide (PLGA-g-PVP/I) electrospun fibrous membranes to prevent postoperative adhesion and infection formation. Firstly, hydrophilic PVP molecules were grafted on the surface of PLGA powders by gamma ray, and then iodine ions were coordinated with the grafted PVP. Subsequently, PLGA-g-PVP/I fibrous membranes were prepared by electrospinning. The PLGA-g-PVP/I membranes were analyzed via UV-vis, FTIR, Raman, and XPS. The formed polyiodide endowed the membranes with sustained antibacterial activity. The antimicrobial property of PLGA-g-PVP/I membranes was ascribed to the synergistic effect of intracellular ROS production and glutathione oxidation. Furthermore, the prevention efficacy of postoperative abdominal adhesion from the PLGA-g-PVP/I composite membranes was characterized in a rat model of sidewall defect-cecum abrasion. The results demonstrated that the PLGA-g-PVP/I fibrous membranes could prevent the postoperative abdominal adhesion effectively. Therefore, to endow the PLGA-g-PVP/I electrospun fibrous membranes with durable antibacterial property may be a promising strategy towards an anti-bacterial and anti-adhesion system for commercial and clinical uses.

A fast, easy and novel method for preparing biodegradable polymer films with silver nanoparticles was investigated to endow the material with excellent biocompatibility and antibacterial property. Silver nanoparticles (Ag NPs) were immobilized on the surface of polylactic acid (PLA) film by gamma radiation induced grafting of N-vinyl pyrrolidone (NVP). In this method, poly (N-vinyl pyrrolidone) (PVP) was produced and grafted onto the surface of PLA film by gamma radiation polymerization of NVP. PVP acted as both a bridge to connect the Ag NPs with the PLA film, and a stabilizer to protect the Ag NPs from agglomeration. The effect of various reaction parameters, including NVP/Ag mole ratio and radiation dose, on the fabrication of PLA-g-NVP/Ag film was demonstrated. Moreover, the interaction between PVP and Ag NPs was studied by X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy and Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy, that revealed the Ag NPs coordinated through the oxygen atom on the carbonyl group of PVP at 15 kGy radiation dose, but through the nitrogen atom and the oxygen atom of the amide group of PVP at 1 kGy dose.
