RESUMEN

Intravascular papillary endothelial hyperplasia (IPEH), often referred to as Masson's Tumor, is an uncommon yet benign vascular disease of the skin and subcutaneous tissues. It usually arises within a blood vessel, but is considered to be a non-neoplastic reactive endothelial proliferation commonly associated with vascular injury. Although it is rare, knowledge of this disease is important as it may mimic other benign and malignant tumors, especially angiosarcoma, which may lead to unnecessary aggressive management. Typically, IPEHs are asymptomatic and are slow growing soft-tissue masses with extremely low-recurrence rates. In this article, we describe a 19-year-old male with a recurrence of Masson's Tumor over the right little finger within 2 months of a routine excision of the lesion. We also present accompanying multimodality clinical, radiological, and pathological imaging. This case illustrates the innocuous nature of the initial lesion easily mistaken for a hemangioma. Awareness of the possibility of a recurrence of a Masson's Tumor is important for clinicians to rule out the presence of malignant vascular lesions.

RESUMEN

Calf pain or swelling is a common presentation to the emergency department. The differential diagnoses are wide. Deep vein thrombosis (DVT) is often the first diagnosis to be excluded given its potentially fatal complications. Musculoskeletal causes of calf pain or swelling such as Baker's cyst, muscle or tendon tear, soft tissue infection, and inflammation are not uncommon and can often be confidently diagnosed with ultrasonography (US). Familiarity with these conditions and the sonographic findings would be useful in making timely and correct diagnosis.

RESUMEN

Patients presenting with a painful swollen leg are not infrequently encountered at the emergency department and can pose a diagnostic dilemma for attending physicians. The potential causes of leg pain and swelling include trauma, infection, inflammation, and neurogenic, vascular, and iatrogenic conditions; with magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) being an important tool in evaluation. We describe the MRI features of various conditions causing painful swollen legs. We also discuss the differential diagnosis and the useful clinical and laboratory findings that radiologists should be aware of, in order to arrive at an accurate diagnosis.

RESUMEN

Foot and ankle injuries are very common, particularly among young active athletic individuals. MR imaging has become one of the modalities of choice in the assessment of foot and ankle injuries. Accurate interpretation of MR images and diagnosis of pathology requires familiarity with normal anatomical variants and common diagnostic pitfalls. This article describes the common anatomical variants and technical pitfalls in MR imaging of the foot and ankle.

RESUMEN

A 49-year-old Chinese woman was referred to our hospital for management of multiple lung nodules, which were incidentally detected on routine chest radiography. Chest computed tomography (CT) confirmed the presence of multiple pulmonary nodules and lung cysts. The lung cysts were located apart from the pulmonary nodules. CT-guided biopsy of the pulmonary nodule specimens confirmed the diagnosis of nodular pulmonary amyloidosis. While cavitation of existing pulmonary amyloid nodules is a well-recognised feature of nodular pulmonary amyloidosis, widespread lung cysts located apart from pulmonary nodules is rare.
