Advanced Systemic Mastocytosis with associated haematological neoplasm: Treatment with avapritinib can facilitate successful bridge to allogeneic haematopoietic cell transplant.

Advanced systemic mastocytosis (AdvSM) is a rare, life-limiting mast cell (MC) neoplasm, with approximately 70% patients having an associated haematological neoplasm (AHN). Avapritinib, a selective tyrosine kinase inhibitor targeting KIT D816V, has shown potent activity translating clinically into durable responses in the phase 1 EXPLORER (NCT02561988) and phase 2 PATHFINDER (NCT03580655) studies. We report three patients with AdvSM-AHN on avapritinib who achieved complete remission (CR) of SM and were successfully bridged to allogeneic haematopoietic cell transplant (allo-HCT). Two cases additionally highlight the risk of clonal evolution within the AHN component and requirement for close monitoring while on targeted therapy.

Birth control and its determinants.

[Calcitonin in direct and indirect pulp capping]. / Kalcytonina w posrednim i bezposrednim przykryciu miazgi.

Calcitonin, the hormone produced by C cells of the thyroid playing a great role in calcium homeostasis, was used for direct and indirect pulp capping. This procedure was done on 200 teeth. Late follow-up after 12, 18 and 24 months or even longer was obtained in 146 cases: 110 with indirect pulp capping and 36 with direct capping. In the first follow-up examination 7 cases were regarded as failures, in late follow-up 5 failures were found, thus the total failure rate was 3.8%. The usefulness of calcitonin for biological treatment of pulp is unquestionable.

PIP: Polish women's attitudes toward methods of birth control are compared using data from a survey undertaken in 1985 among newly married women and women married for at least 12 years. The results show that of the women who have been married longer, more are opposed to all methods of family planning, although fewer women in this group approve of natural family planning methods only.^ieng

PIP: This is a preliminary review of the results of the annual sample survey for 1985 concerning newlyweds in Poland. The decline in marriage that has occurred, particularly between the ages of 20 and 24, is attributed to changes in the age structure of the population and the deficit of young women in rural areas.
