RESUMEN

The aim of this study was to evaluate the influence of extremely low frequency magnetic field (ELF MF) on the reactivity of the central dopamine D(1) receptor in rats with dopamine neurons chemically damaged by 6-hydroxydopamine (6-OHDA), an animal model of human's Parkinson's disease. The experiment was carried out on male Wistar rats. On day 3 of postnatal life, a lasting and selective chemical damage of the central dopamine system was induced in the rats by infusion of 6-OHDA HBr (133.4 microg intracerebroventricular, base form) given bilaterally into lateral ventricles of the brain. Control animals received similar treatments injecting only vehicle. At 2 months of age, both 6-OHDA treated and control rats were randomly divided into two groups. Rats from the first group were exposed to 10 Hz sinusoidal, 1.8-3.8 mT magnetic field one hour daily for 14 days. Rats of the second group were sham exposed, with the applicator solenoid turned off. On the day after the final exposure the evaluations were made of the rat's spontaneous irritability, oral activity, and catalepsy. The MF exposed rat with chemically induced dopamine neurons damage exhibited a reduction of irritability and oral activity when stimulated with SKF 38393 (the agonist of central dopamine D(1) receptor) and some increase of catalepsy after administration of SCH 23390(the antagonist of central dopamine D(1) receptor). These results indicate that ELF MF reduce the reactivity of central dopamine D(1) receptors in rats.

RESUMEN

In order to determine of the osmotic-diffusive properties of membranous dressing Bioprocess, which is a microfibrous network of homogeneous cellulose produced in biosynthesis by Acetobacter, the hydraulic permeability (Lp), reflection (sigma) and diffusive permeability (omega) coefficients were measured. The values of these coefficients showed that this membrane possess a low selectivity. This amount it easy permeable for solvent (water) as well as for solutions (aqueous solutions of glucose, sucrose, ethanol, NaCl or KCl). Thus, it attend a demands make for polymeric materials used in therapy of scald and ulceration.

RESUMEN

The results of our own clinical trials regarding therapeutical effects of low power lasers in the treatment of some diseases of motional system, skin and lesions of peripheral circulation were presented in the paper. The laser therapy was used in over 320 patients in period of last 3 years. The infra-red laser (wave-length 904 nm, mean power 4 mW) was used. The procedures were performed daily, for 5 days a week in 2 stages: the scan of sore region (3-min.) and the irradiation of trigger points (2-3 min. each). As a result of 10-25 procedures a significant clinical improvement in 65-90% patients was obtained. On the base of obtained results one can conclude that low-power laser therapy could make a useful supplementary method of treatment of overloading syndrome of motional system, postthrombotic syndrome, lymphatic edema and trophic lesions of skin.

RESUMEN

In the paper the degree of lead micro-intoxication was assessed in school children from the region of emissions of the Mining-Ironworks Complex "Boleslaw" in Bukowno. The study included 323 children of either sex aged from 7 to 14 years. In these children the levels of selected lead intoxication markers were determined--concentration of zinc protoporphyrin (ZnPP) in the erythrocytes and concentration of delta-amino-laevulinic acid (ALA) in urine. The obtained results were compared with corresponding results in the control group which consisted of 163 children of the same age, living in a control area without exposure to heavy metals. In the studied group in all age subgroups, significantly higher ALA concentrations in urine were observed in comparison to the control group. At the same time, exceeding of upper acceptable range of ALA concentration in the organism was five times more frequent in this group. On the other hand, the concentration of ZnPP in the erythrocytes failed to show any significant differences between the compared groups in any of the analysed age subgroups. On the basis of the obtained results it was demonstrated that the school children living in the region of emissions of the MIC "Boleslaw" had biochemical features of long-term lead microintoxication. As it seems, the concentration of ALA in urine is of greater diagnostic value in comparison to the concentration of ZnPP in the erythrocytes in screening examinations in these children.

RESUMEN

In the paper, the basic parameters of blood morphologic pattern were assessed in school children exposed to toxic heavy metal emission. The studies included 323 children aged from 7 to 14 years, living in the region of emissions of the Mining-Ironworks Complex "Boleslaw" in Bukowno. In these children haemoglobin concentration, haematocrit and erythrocyte and leucocyte counts were determined using routine laboratory tests. The obtained results were compared with corresponding results in the control group which consisted of 163 children of either sex living in a control region without exposure to heavy metals. In the studied group in most age subgroups significant decreases of erythrocyte count haemoglobin concentration and increases of haematocrit value were observed in comparison to the control group. At the same time, in these children, ten times higher, in relation to the control group, incidence was found of haemoglobin concentrations below 120 g/l, characteristic of anaemia. As it seems, one of important factors causing the decrease of the value of the parameters of blood morphologic pattern in the studied children is chronic microintoxication with lead, manifesting itself as significantly increased concentration of delta-amino-laevulinic acid in urine which is a sensitive marker of this intoxication.

RESUMEN

Theoretical basis and favourable therapeutical application of magnetic field in case of trophic ulcerations of the lower limbs are discussed. As a clinical example of such action a case of a 39-year old female patient with trophic ulceration of the leg is presented. Practical advantages of magnetotherapy in similar to the described case patients are suggested.

RESUMEN

The value of radioimmunoassay for creatine kinase BB isoenzyme (CK-BB) determination in early diagnosis of acute myocardial infarction was estimated. The clinical material consisted of 35 randomly selected patients admitted to a coronary care unit during the 4 h after chest pain suspected for myocardial infarction. In all patients standard 12 lead electrocardiograms were obtained on admission and at 24, 48 and 72 hours after admission. Blood samples for CK-BB analysis were collected on admission and at 4 hourly intervals for 48 h after admission. Aspartate aminotransferase (GOT) activity was determined in all patients on admission and in samples obtained at 24 and 48 hours. The patients were classified to 3 groups according to electrocardiographic and clinical findings. The first group consisted of 10 patients whose electrocardiograms fulfilled the criteria of transmural infarction. The electrocardiograms of 10 patients of the second group fulfilled the criteria of subendocardial infarction. The remaining 15 patients made up a third group of coronary insufficiency. The activity of CK-BB at various time intervals after chest pain in all groups was compared in order to estimate the value of this method for differentiation of the 3 causes of coronary pain. The frequency of positive results (the values exceeding upper limits of normal range for healthy people) at various time intervals after pain obtained with both enzymatic methods was compared in order to estimate the sensitivity of analysed method.(ABSTRACT TRUNCATED AT 250 WORDS)

RESUMEN

The clinical condition of 184 newborns born by primipara older than 35 years and 500 randomisly selected newborns born by multipara older than 35 years in 27,821 newborns born at 1st Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology in Bytom between 1975 and 1985 has been analysed. The results were compared with the results of the control group of 500 randomisly selected newborns born by primipara younger than 35 years. It was observed that newborns of mothers older than 35 years and specially primipara are biologically weaker than newborns of mothers of the optimal reproduction age. There are often born with signs of prematurity and intrauterine dystrophy, have lower body weight, higher incidence of developmental anomaly, labour complications and adaptation difficulties during early neonatal period. The importance was stressed of the monitoring of pregnancy and delivery in this patients as well as the intensive perinatal pharmacotherapy in the newborns, to decrease perinatal mortality.

RESUMEN

In this paper 19 cases of caesarean hysterectomy were analysed with regard to indications, choosing the method of operation, post-surgery procedure and management in cases of surgical complications. In period 1975-1985 in Ist Clinic of Obstetrics and Gynecology in Bytom we had 2,961 sections. Caesarean hysterectomy occurred in 0.07% of normal deliveries and in 0.64% of caesarean sections. The most frequent indication for caesarean section followed hysterectomy was placenta praevia (28%) and the most frequent indication for hysterectomy was atony and coagulopathy (32%). In all cases a total abdominal hysterectomy has been made. Mortality rate was 10.5% and the most frequent complications were lesions of urinary bladder (10.5%). The results obtained have been compared with the data from world literature.

RESUMEN

For establishing normal mean values of the parameters of the electrocardiographic curve and their standard deviations 50 male guinea pigs were studied. The directions of temporary vectors of atrial (AP) and ventricular (AQRS) depolarization times, and ventricular repolarization time (AT) were determined, and the position of the heart was evaluated. In all animals limb leads I, II, III, aVR, aVL, aVF were used, and in 38 animals additionally the precordial leads V1, V2, V3, V4, V5, V6 were applied. The investigations were done by a non-invasive method with a specially designed plate making possible immobilization of the animals in supine position under general anaesthesia with urethane. In 10% of the animals abnormalities were detected in the ECG curve and these guinea pigs were eliminated from further analysis. The investigations showed that, after consideration given to the differences in the ECG curves in relation to man, guinea pigs might be used for preclinical cardiological studies.
