[Linear and whorled nevoid hypermelanosis: report of two cases]. / Hypermélanose naevoïde linéaire et en volutes: deux observations.

CASE REPORTS: Two cases of linear and whorled nevoid hypermelanosis are reported. Cutaneous lesions (hyperpigmented macules along Blaschko's lines) appeared gradually after birth. Neurologic anomalies were detected in both cases (symptomatic in one, only cerebral MRI anomalies in the other). CONCLUSION: This sporadic condition, probably caused by somatic mosaicism, must be differentiated from incontinentia pigmenti, Mac Cune-Albright disease and chimerism. Its situation among the Blaschko linear pigmentary anomalies (hypomelanosis of Ito) is discussed.

[Cutaneous manifestations of erysipeloid septicemia]. / Manifestations cutanées d'une maladie du rouget du porc septicémique.

BACKGROUND: Rouget du porc, or swine erysipelas, usually occurs in man as Rosenbach's erysipeloid. Septicemic forms are more uncommon and can be associated with dermal involvement far from the site of inoculation. We report a case in a patient given corticosteroid therapy for systematic lupus. CASE REPORT: A 50-year-old farmer was seen with fever, infiltrative erythema of the long finger and dorsal lesions on the ring finger which developed after a skin lesions caused by a duck. The diagnosis of septicemic rouget du porc was made after isolating the germ from blood cultures. There was no associated endocarditis. Fever and skin lesions totally regressed after treatment with ceftriaxone. DISCUSSION: The diagnosis of erysipeloid was supported by epidemiologic arguments and characteristic clinical features. The corticosteroid therapy was probably a favoring factor for development of septicemia. Positive diagnosis is usually obtained from blood culture but the germ can be isolated from skin biopsies at the site of inoculation. Our patient was free of endocarditis which should always be suspected. Endocarditis is frequent and often fatal. Intravenous high-dose penicillin G is recommanded treatment.

[Thymosin-testosterone interaction in spontaneous rosette formation in the baboon monkey (Papio papio)]. / Etude de l'interaction thymosine-testosterone sur la formation de rosettes spontanées chez le singe babouin (Papio papio).

Thymosine fraction V was shown to exert a stimulation activity on T lymphocytes from Papio papio, as determined by E. Rosette and active E. Rosette formation. Testosterone inhibited this effect of thymosin.

[Breast cancer induced by estrogens in a prostate cancer patient]. / Cancer du sein induit par les oestrogènes chez un cancéreux prostatique.

The authors report a case of malignant breast tumour induced by oestrogens in a patient treated for 7 years for carcinoma of the prostate. They review the literature on the subject and stress the important diagnostic and prognostic role of hormonal receptor assays. These allow the much more numerous cases of mammary metastases of prostatic cancer to be distinguished and, in cases of primary malignant tumour, they permit the choice of the best possible hormone therapy available.
