RESUMEN
Present methods of accreditation of education of all programs in radiologic technology and credentialling of radiologic technologists are based on the activities of the Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology (JRC-ERT), and the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT), but with increasing role of government in this process. Because it is so important to radiology and radiologists that this process continue, radiologists are urged to play a more active role.

Comparisons were made of thyroid uptake of three commercially available preparations of 131I, using a double-blind design, in 125 patients with normal thyroid function. Uptakes with Squibb Iodotope Diagnostic capsules were significantly lower than those with Squibb Iodotope Oral liquid at 4 hr (p less than 0.01) and 24 hr (p less than 0.05) after ingestion in both the general population and in all patients less than 45 years of age. Uptakes of Radiocaps I-131 (Abbott Laboratories) and Iodotope Oral liquid were indistinguishable under identical conditions. Our findings indicate that interference with either absorption or metabolism of a pharmaceutical can result from the vehicle used to administer it.

A total of 219 patients with proved lung cancer were studied to determine whether postresection irradiation improves survival. The results showed that postresection irradiation improved survival among patients with hilar and mediastinal lymph-node metastases of all histological types but did not improve survival among patients without node metastases. The authors recommend that patients with resectable lung cancer involving the hilar and mediastinal lymph nodes be treated by a combination of surgery and radiotherapy.

Since 1965, 103 patients with testicular neoplasms have been evaluated with lymphangiography for evidence of retroperitoneal disease. Thirty-five patients with testicular carcinomas had lymphadenectomies; corroboration of their initial lymphangiographic interpretaions with the surgical specimens was possible. There was an overall 79% (26 of 33) correlation. We feel that even with relatively inexperienced examiners, lymphangiography can be a useful means of evaluating the retroperitoneum.
