RESUMEN

In this study, we explored the use of plasma-activated water (PAW) in combination with ultrasound (US) for food disinfection. Our research introduces a novel approach that utilizes a pulsed-control (PC) method to modify the PAW. The resulting PCPAW exhibits significantly higher concentrations of key reactive oxygen and nitrogen species (RONS) compared to conventional PAW. The disinfection efficacy of US-PCPAW against fresh-cut lettuce was compared to that of US-PAW, US, and PCPAW. The combination of US and PCPAW was highly effective in reducing food-borne pathogens, surpassing single treatments in count reduction and minimizing cross-contamination. Furthermore, our study demonstrates that US-PCPAW effectively controls browning appearance without compromising sensory attributes. These findings suggest that PCPAW, as a novel disinfectant, can be a valuable addition to US to enhance the quality and safety of fresh-cut produce.

RESUMEN

In order to achieve the simultaneous extraction and detection of tetracycline (TC) in milk, the amino-functionalized Fe-based metal-organic frameworks (NH2-MIL-88B) was synthesized via a solvothermal method with Fe3+ and 2-aminoterephthalic acid (NH2-BDC) as precursor. Thanks to the unique structure of NH2-MIL-88B, it could be used to highly effective extract of TC in milk. More interestedly, the introduced -NH2 could react with -OH from TC by a hydrogen-bonding interaction to cause the electronic interactions that enhances the peroxidase-like activity of NH2-MIL-88B, which result in the enhancement of Fenton reaction by the transfer of the electron between TC and NH2-MIL-88B. Under the optimal testing conditions, the linear absorbance response is well correlated with the TC concentration range of 50-1000 nM, which can reach a low LOD of 46.75 nM. Besides, the sensor exhibits excellent selectivity to TC, and the proposed strategy can also be applied to milk with good recovery (83.33-107.00%). Finally, the NH2-MIL-88B and cellulose acetate (CA) are combined to form nanozyme hybrid membranes through the non-solvent induced phase separation method, which can be used to prepare point-of-care testing (POCT) for rapid and in-situ detection of TC.

RESUMEN

Although Amphotericin B (AmB) is considered as the "gold standard" treatment for deep fungal infections, owing to its excellent antifungal effect, it often causes severe hemolytic toxicity and nephrotoxicity, which limits its clinical use. We designed and synthesized AmB derivatives by attaching salicylic acid (SA) to the carboxyl group and confirmed their structures using 1H NMR, 13C NMR, HR-MS, and IR. We evaluated its biological activity in vitro and measured its ultraviolet-visible (UV-vis) absorption spectrum. The AmB-SA conjugates exhibited good antifungal effects against Candida albicans, Candida glabrata, and Cryptococcus neoformans compared with AmB, and the renal cytotoxicity toward HEK 293T cells in vitro was significantly reduced, with almost no nephrotoxicity in the therapeutic window of the drug. At the same time, the hemolytic toxicity was significantly reduced. Therefore, modification of AmB by introducing SA is an effective strategy to maintain the broad antifungal activity of AmB and reduce its cytotoxicity. These AmB derivatives could be applied in clinical therapy in the future.
