Introduction: Despite increasing implementation of sophisticated and logistically challenging techniques to support patients in life-threatening conditions in the last years, there were no devoted education centres, especially in coronavirus pandemic. Aim: To assess the value of gaining evidence-based knowledge and improving the skills of physicians by means of simulation techniques in the safe use of extracorporeal technologies to support patients in the life-threatening conditions. Material and methods: In 2019, the National Education Centre for Artificial Life Support and Patient Safety and the frame program of the course of "Artificial Life Support with ECMO". was created. In years 2019-2023, we managed to organise 34 such courses for 405 physicians, which were additionally endorsed by ELSO (Extracorporeal Life Support Organisation). The physicians' cognitive, behavioural, and technical skills were evaluated before and after the courses. Results: The participants' gender was well balanced (54% men and 46% women). Most of them (mainly at the age between 31-40 years) presented more than 5 years of clinical experience, predominantly in anaesthesiology and intensive care (63%). Of note, 54% of them had no experience with ECMO application. In all detailed aspects of cognitive, behavioural, and technical assessment and knowledge scores, significant improvement was observed after the course. Conclusions: The development of a simulation-based education centre was found to be an invaluable achievement that enabled not only successful standardised training and testing of novel or previously accepted procedures, but also the upgrading of technical skills, even in the challenging COVID-19 pandemic period.

Coronary artery disease (CAD) continues to be a foremost contributor to global mortality, and the quest for modifiable risk factors could improve prophylactic strategies. Recent studies suggest a significant role of zinc (Zn) and copper (Cu) deficiency in atheromatous plaque formation. Furthermore, hair was previously described as a valuable source of information on elemental burden during the 6-8 week period before sampling. The aim of this study was to investigate the possibility of correlation between the extent of CAD evaluated with the SYNergy Between PCI With TAXUS and the Cardiac Surgery (SYNTAX) score with Cu and Zn content in hair samples, as well as with the Cu/Zn ratio in a cohort of 130 patients. Our findings describe a statistically significant inverse correlation between Cu content and the Cu/Zn ratio in hair samples and the extent of CAD. In contrast, no significant correlation was found between Zn content and the extent of CAD. Considering the scarcity of existing data on the subject, the analysis of hair samples could yield a novel insight into elemental deficiencies and their potential influence on CAD extent.

Cardiovascular disease (CVD) continues to be the leading cause of death in European men. Atherosclerosis and its clinical consequence, chronic coronary syndrome (CCS), comprise two main elements: dysfunction of lipoprotein metabolism and an important inflammatory component that contributes to the development of complications, including acute coronary syndrome (ACS). Measures of both components are combined in a composite marker called monocyte-to-HDL ratio (MHR). Vitamin D was previously described to influence inflammation processes, and its deficiency influences CVD risk factors. This research describes the differences in MHR and total serum 25-hydroxyvitamin D (25(OH)D) concentration between male patients with different diagnoses of CCS and the correlation between 25(OH)D and MHR in this group. Significant differences were observed between ACS and CCS patients in 25(OH)D and MHR-the highest HDL and serum 25(OH)D concentrations were observed in patients with CCS, whereas the highest value of MHR was observed in patients with STEMI. A significant correlation was observed between 25(OH)D, HDL, and MHR. Due to the significant but small nominal difference in MHR values between groups of patients diagnosed with ACS and CCS, and the possible influence of age and hyperlipidemia status on the differences in vitamin D levels in these groups, this subject requires further well-designed research. The suggested bidirectional relationship between MHR and 25(OH)D and the role of MHR as a predictor of vitamin D status in the body also needs to be verified.

Background: Despite the preserved LVEF, patients with acromegaly are characterized by subclinical systolic dysfunction i.e., abnormal global longitudinal strain (GLS) assessed by speckle tracking echocardiography (STE). The effect of acromegaly treatment on LV systolic function assessed by STE, has not been evaluated so far. Patients and methods: Thirty-two naïve acromegalic patients without detectable heart disease were enrolled in a prospective, single-center study. 2D-Echocardiography and STE were performed at diagnosis, 3&6 months on preoperative somatostatin receptor ligand (SRL) treatment and 3 months after transsphenoidal surgery (TSS). Results: Treatment with SRL resulted in reduction in median (IQR) GH&IGF-1 levels after 3 months, from 9.1(3.2-21.9) to 1.8(0.9-5.2) ng/mL (p<0.001) and from 3.2(2.3-4.3) to 1.5(1.1-2.5) xULN (p<0.001), respectively. Biochemical control on SRL was achieved in 25.8% of patients after 6 months and complete surgical remission was achieved in 41.7% of patients. TSS resulted in decrease in median (IQR) IGF-1 compared to IGF-1 levels on SRL treatment: from 1.5(1.2-2.5) to 1.3(1.0-1.6) xULN (p=0.003). Females had lower IGF-1 levels at baseline, on SRL and after TSS compared to males. The median end diastolic and end systolic left ventricle volumes were normal. Almost half of the patients (46.9%) had increased LVMi, however the median value of LVMi was normal in both sex groups: 99g/m2 in males and 94g/m2 in females. Most patients (78.1%) had increased LAVi and the median value was 41.8mL/m2. At baseline 50% of patients, mostly men (62.5% vs. 37.5%) had GLS values higher than -20%. There was a positive correlation between baseline GLS and BMI r=0.446 (p=0.011) and BSA r=0.411 (p=0.019). The median GLS significantly improved after 3 months of SRL treatment compared to baseline: -20.4% vs. -20.0% (p=0.045). The median GLS was lower in patients with surgical remission compared to patients with elevated GH&IGF-1 levels: -22.5% vs. -19.8% (p=0.029). There was a positive correlation between GLS and IGF-1 levels after TSS r=0.570 (p=0.007). Conclusion: The greatest beneficial effect of acromegaly treatment on LV systolic function is visible already after 3 months of preoperative SRL treatment, especially in women. Patients with surgical remission have better GLS compared to patients with persistent acromegaly.

Aim: Rapid detection is crucial in complementing vaccination to reduce transmission of SARS-CoV-2. Materials & methods: Nasopharyngeal swabs (n = 213) and oropharyngeal swabs (n = 98) were tested. with the antigen rapid test kit. Results: Overall sensitivity (97.96%), specificity (100.00%) and coincidence rate (98.71%) were high, which translated into a positive predictive value of 100.00% and a negative predictive value of 96.64%. Conclusion: Antigen rapid tests have a great potential for screening in different settings to deliver results with high sensitivity and specificity.


This study evaluated SG Diagnostics COVID-19 antigen rapid test kit. The overall sensitivity, specificity and coincidence rate were found very high with SG Diagnostics COVID-19 antigen rapid test kit performing better.

Introduction: Simulation training offers an authentic team-based learning opportunity without risk to real patients. The Educational Corner at the annual congress of the European Branch of Extracorporeal Life Support Organisation (EuroELSO) provided an opportunity for multiple simulation training sessions facilitated by experts from all over the world.Aim: We aimed to review the educational impact of EuroELSO Educational Corner and whether it provides a quality ECLS training to a wide spectrum of multidisciplinary international attendees utilising high and low fidelity simulation, workshops and hands on sessions.Methods: During the congress, 43 sessions were conducted dedicated to ECLS education with identified educational objectives. The sessions focused on management of adults and children on V-V or V-A ECMO. Adult sessions covered emergencies on mechanical circulatory support with management of LVAD and Impella, managing refractory hypoxemia on V-V ECMO, emergencies on ECMO, renal replacement therapy on ECMO, V-V ECMO, ECPR cannulation and performing perfect simulation. Paediatric sessions covered ECPR neck and central cannulation, renal replacement on ECMO, troubleshooting, cannulation workshop, V-V recirculation, ECMO for single ventricle, PIMS-TS and CDH, ECMO transport and neurological injury.Results: The Educational Corner was attended by more than 400 participants over the two congress days. Majority of responders (88%) reported that training sessions met the set educational goals and objectives and that this would change their current practice. Almost all (94%) reported that they received useful information and 95% would recommend the session to their colleagues.Conclusion: The Educational Corner, as an integral component of the annual EuroELSO congress, achieved the set educational goals and provided quality education based on the recipient survey. Structured multidisciplinary ECLS education with standardised curriculum and feedback is an important key step in delivering quality training to an international audience. Standardisation of European ECLS education remains an important focus of the EuroELSO.

High-volume extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) centers generally have better outcomes than (new) low-volume ECMO centers, most likely achieved by a suitable exposure to ECMO cases. To achieve a higher level of training, simulation-based training (SBT) offers an additional option for education and extended clinical skills. SBT could also help to improve the interdisciplinary team interactions. However, the level of ECMO simulators and/or simulations (ECMO sims) techniques may vary in purpose. We present a structured and objective classification of ECMO sims based on the broad experience of users and the developer for the available ECMO sims as low-, mid-, or high-fidelity. This classification is based on overall ECMO sim fidelity, established by taking the median of the definition-based fidelity, component fidelity, and customization fidelity as determined by expert opinion. According to this new classification, only low- and mid-fidelity ECMO sims are currently available. This comparison method may be used in the future for the description of new developments in ECMO sims, making it possible for ECMO sim designers, users, and researchers to compare accordingly, and ultimately improve ECMO patient outcomes.

Background: Implementation of emergency endovascular aortic repair provides an attractive opportunity in the treatment of complicated acute aortic syndromes involving descending aorta. Aim: The aim of this study was to analyze the effectiveness of thoracic endovascular aortic repair (TEVAR) for the treatment of acute surgical emergencies involving the descending thoracic aorta. Methods: A retrospective review of the medical records of all patients undergoing TEVAR in a single center since 2007 was undertaken. Patients with the aortic disease treated on emergency inclusion criteria were complicated spontaneous acute aortic syndrome (csAAS), traumatic aortic acute injuries (TAIs), and other indications requiring emergent intervention. Technical and clinical success with patient mortality, survival, and reoperation rate was evaluated according to Society for Vascular Surgery reporting standards for thoracic endovascular aortic repair (TEVAR). Results: The emergency interventions were necessary in 74 cases (51.0%), including patients with the complicated spontaneous acute aortic syndrome (csAAS) (64.8%; n = 48) and traumatic aortic acute injuries (TAIs) (31.1%). In addition, in one case aortic iatrogenic dissection (AID) and in 2 other fistulas after the previous stent graft, implantations were diagnosed. All procedures were done through surgically exposed femoral arteries while 2 hybrid procedures required additional approaches. The primary technical success rate was 95.9%, in 3 cases endoleak was reported. The primary clinical success occurred in 94.5%. All patients survived the endovascular interventions, whereas during in-hospital stay one of them died due to multiorgan failure (early mortality 1.3%). During the follow-up period, lasting 6 through 164 months (median 67), 11 patients died. Annual, five- and ten-year probability of survival was 86.4 ± 0.04%, 80.0 ± 0.05%, and 76.6 ± 0.06%, respectively. However, the rate of 5-year survivors was significantly higher after TAI (95.2%) than scAAS (63.4%) (p=0.008). Early after the procedure, one individual developed transient paraparesis (1.3%). No other serious stent-graft-related adverse events were noted within the postdischarge follow-up period. Conclusions: Descending aortic pathologies requiring emergent interventions can be treated by endovascular techniques with optimal results and low morbidity and mortality in an experienced and dedicated team.

The prevalence of coronary artery disease (CAD) increases every year; however, the impact of microelements on its underlying cause-atherosclerosis-is still unclear. Copper plays numerous regulatory roles in cardiovascular health and was suggested to influence the classic risk factors for CAD. The copper-to-zinc-ratio (Cu/Zn-ratio) reflects systemic oxidative stress-one of the factors in the complex pathogenesis of atherosclerosis. Hair incorporates metal ions during its growth; thus, it reflects the metal exposure that occurred over the last 4-8 weeks. The aim of the presented study was to verify the association between Cu and Cu/Zn-ratio content and the occurrence of acute coronary syndrome (ACS) in the hair of 133 patients who underwent coronary angiography due to suspected ACS. Additionally, association between Cu and Cu/Zn-ratio and selected risk factors for CAD was analyzed. Neither Cu nor Cu/Zn-ratio levels were associated with the occurrence of ACS, regardless of its type (UA/NSTEMI/STEMI). We did not find a significant association between Cu content in hair and risk factors for CAD. The Cu/Zn-ratio in hair was significantly correlated only with body mass index. The relationship of Cu content and Cu/Zn-ratio in hair with CAD, its risk factors and ACS appears to be complex and requires further well-designed research.

The incidence of ischemic heart disease (IHD) increases every year. This cardiovascular disease has an inflammatory factor in its etiology due to different immune cells that influence atherogenesis. New inflammatory biomarkers-the Systemic Inflammatory Index (SII) and the Systemic Inflammatory Response (SIRI)-attempt to describe the pro- and anti-inflammatory balance and quantify the complex impact of the immune system on atherosclerosis, while vitamin D has a multidirectional impact on the human body, including the cardiovascular and immune systems. Hence, the objective of this research was to analyze the association between SII and SIRI and serum vitamin D concentrations in patients with IHD. A significant correlation was observed between SIRI and 25(OH)D in the whole group and between both biomarkers (SII and SIRI) and 25(OH)D in the group of patients with ACS but not in the group of patients with stable IHD. The role of vitamin D in IHD complications and its association with new inflammatory biomarkers requires further well-designed, large-scale research.

Atherosclerosis, the underlying cause of coronary artery disease (CAD), has a significant inflammatory component. White blood cell count is an affordable and accessible way to assess the systemic immune response, as it comprises many subgroups with distinct and complex functions. Considering their multidirectional effect on atherosclerosis, new biomarkers integrating various leukocyte subgroups, the Systemic Inflammatory Index (SII) and the Systemic Inflammatory Response Index (SIRI), were recently devised to describe the balance between inflammation and immune reaction. This research aimed to evaluate the relationship of the intensity of inflammation measured by these biomarkers with the severity of CAD assessed with coronary angiography and with the diagnosis of acute coronary syndrome (ACS) or stable CAD in 699 patients. SIRI, but not SII, was associated with the diagnosis, having the highest values for patients with ACS (STEMI), significantly higher than in patients with stable CAD (p < 0.01). The highest SII and SIRI values were observed in patients with three-vessel CAD. SII and SIRI require further in-depth and well-designed research to evaluate their potential in a clinical setting.

Coronary artery disease (CAD), the leading cause of death worldwide, has an underlying cause in atherosclerosis. The activity of this inflammatory process can be measured with neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio (NLR). The anti-inflammatory and anti-atherogenic properties of vitamin D affect many mechanisms involved in CAD. In this study, we investigated the association between NLR, vitamin D concentration, and severity of CAD in a group of patients with a history of myocardial infarction (MI). NLR was higher in patients with acute coronary syndrome (ACS) in comparison to those with stable CAD (median: 2.8, range: 0.96−24.3 vs. median: 2.3, range: 0.03−31.6; p < 0.05). No associations between NLR and severity of CAD (p = 0.14) in the cohort and in the subgroups with stable CAD (p = 0.40) and ACS (p = 0.34) were observed. We found no correlation between vitamin D level and NLR neither in the whole study group (p = 0.29) nor in subgroups of patients with stable CAD (p = 0.84) and ACS (p = 0.30). NLR could be used as prognostic biomarker of consecutive MI in patients with CAD and a history of MI.

Cardiovascular diseases (CVDs) are the leading cause of death worldwide. Although zinc (Zn) was reported to have antioxidant, anti-inflammatory and protective properties in CVDs, its association with coronary artery disease (CAD) is still unclear. As methods commonly used to assess Zn levels in blood and urine do not show the full picture of the microelement supply, in this study, the nutritional status of Zn in patients with angiographically confirmed CAD was assessed using inductively coupled plasma optical emission spectrometry. We found no association between Zn and the severity of CAD evaluated with the Coronary Artery Surgery Study Score (p = 0.67). There were no statistically significant differences in Zn levels between patients with acute coronary syndrome and those with stable CAD (p = 0.937). A statically significant negative correlation was observed between Zn content and serum triglyceride concentration (p < 0.05). Patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus were found to have a significantly lower hair Zn content compared to non-diabetic individuals (p < 0.01). The role of Zn in the pathogenesis of CAD and its complications need further well-designed research as the moderation and supplementation of Zn dietary intake could be a simple intervention to reduce the CVDs risk.

Clinical trials are the gatekeepers and bottlenecks of progress in medicine. In recent years, they have become increasingly complex and expensive, driven by a growing number of stakeholders requiring more endpoints, more diverse patient populations, and a stringent regulatory environment. Trial designers have historically relied on investigator expertise and legacy norms established within sponsor companies to improve operational efficiency while achieving study goals. As such, data-driven forecasts of operational metrics can be a useful resource for trial design and planning. We develop a machine learning model to predict clinical trial operational efficiency using a novel dataset from Roche containing over 2,000 clinical trials across 20 years and multiple disease areas. The data includes important operational metrics related to patient recruitment and trial duration, as well as a variety of trial features such as the number of procedures, eligibility criteria, and endpoints. Our results demonstrate that operational efficiency can be predicted robustly using trial features, which can provide useful insights to trial designers on the potential impact of their decisions on patient recruitment success and trial duration.

Coronary artery disease continues to be the leading cause of death in developed countries. Elevated mean platelet volume (MPV) is associated with an increased incidence of myocardial infarction (MI) and MI-related mortality. Vitamin D concentrations affect the level and function of platelets, which are the crucial mediator of atherothrombosis and plaque rupture. The main aim of this study was to examine the relationship of serum 25-hydroxyvitamin D (25(OH)D) levels with the platelet activity in patients with a history of an acute coronary syndrome (ACS). This prospective study recruited 268 patients with a history of MI who underwent coronary angiography due to the suspicion of another ACS. Serum 25(OH)D concentration was determined by electrochemiluminescence. Platelet activity was assessed using the MPV and platelet-large cell ratio (P-LCR) parameters. There was no significant difference in MPV and P-LCR values between patients diagnosed with subsequent MI and patients with chronic coronary syndrome (CCS). A significantly lower level of 25(OH)D was demonstrated in patients who had another MI compared to those with CCS (p < 0.05). No significant correlation of 25(OH)D concentrations with platelet activity parameters values was found. The subgroup of patients with consecutive MI was characterized by significantly lower serum vitamin D levels, but this was not related to the analyzed parameters of platelet activity.

Cardiovascular diseases are the main cause of mortality in males older than 65 years of age. The prevalent vitamin D deficiency in the worldwide population may have multiple effects on the cardiovascular system. This study sought to determine the association between serum levels of 25-hydroxyvitamin D (25(OH)D) and the stage of coronary artery disease (CAD) in Polish male subjects. Additionally, subjects with a history of myocardial infarction (MI) were analyzed for potential differences in 25(OH)D levels in comparison with those diagnosed with stable CAD. The study was conducted prospectively in a group of 669 male patients subjected to coronarography examination. CAD stage was defined using the Coronary Artery Surgery Study Score. Patients without significant coronary lesions had significantly higher 25(OH)D levels than patients with single-, double-, or triple-vessel disease (median, 17 vs. 15 ng/mL; p < 0.01). Significantly lower levels of 25(OH)D were apparent when MI was identified as the cause of the then-current hospitalization in comparison with stable CAD, as well as in patients with a history of MI; all of these cases had lower levels of 25(OH)D in comparison with patients with no such history. Male patients with single-, double-, or triple-vessel CAD, acute coronary syndrome, or a history of MI presented lower serum 25(OH)D.

The approach to a series of six- and seven-membered oxaboraheterocycles based on naphthalene or biphenyl backbones was developed. The key synthetic step involved Br/Li exchange in respective potassium (bromoaryl)trifluoroborates followed by quenching with selected electrophiles (CO2 , DMF, Me2 Si(H)Cl) and hydrolytic workup. Two ring-expanded benzoxaborole congeners were obtained by an additional reduction step with LiAlH4 or NaBH4 . The obtained boracyclic compounds were characterized in detail by NMR spectroscopy and single-crystal X-ray diffraction. Specifically, biphenyl-based systems show dynamic behaviour interpreted in terms of inversion of non-planar seven-membered boraheterocycles. The acidity of the obtained compounds varies very strongly (pKa ranges from 3.1-9.6) depending on their structure. Due to the enhanced boron Lewis acidity, selected compounds were used as a basis for luminescent complexes with 8-hydroxyquinoline. A strong phase-dependent variation of emission-band maximum (480-527 nm) and photoluminescence quantum yield (10-95 %) was observed, which was rationalized in terms of specific aggregation effects.

BACKGROUND: Endotracheal intubation (ETI) is still the gold standard of airway management, but in cases of sudden cardiac arrest in patients with suspected SARS-CoV-2 infection, ETI is associated with risks for both the patient and the medical personnel. We hypothesized that the Vie Scope® is more useful for endotracheal intubation of suspected or confirmed COVID-19 cardiac arrest patients than the conventional laryngoscope with Macintosh blade when operators are wearing personal protective equipment (PPE). METHODS: Study was designed as a prospective, multicenter, randomized clinical trial performed by Emergency Medical Services in Poland. Patients with suspected or confirmed COVID-19 diagnosis who needed cardiopulmonary resuscitation in prehospital setting were included. Patients under 18 years old or with criteria predictive of impossible intubation under direct laryngoscopy, were excluded. Patients were randomly allocated 1:1 to Vie Scope® versus direct laryngoscopy with a Macintosh blade. Study groups were compared on success of intubation attempts, time to intubation, glottis visualization and number of optimization maneuvers. RESULTS: We enrolled 90 out-of-hospital cardiac arrest (OHCA) patients, aged 43-92 years. Compared to the VieScope® laryngoscope, use of the Macintosh laryngoscope required longer times for tracheal intubation with an estimated mean difference of -48 s (95%CI confidence interval [CI], -60.23, -35.77; p < 0.001). Moreover VieScope® improved first attempt success rate, 93.3% vs. 51.1% respectively (odds ratio [OR] = 13.39; 95%CI: 3.62, 49.58; p < 0.001). CONCLUSIONS: The use of the Vie Scope® laryngoscope in OHCA patients improved the first attempt success rate, and reduced intubation time compared to Macintosh laryngoscope in paramedics wearing PPE for against aerosol generating procedures. BACKGROUND: Although the resuscitation of an adult trauma patient has been researched and written about for the past century, the ideal fluid strategy to infuse during the initial resuscitation period remains unresolved. This work was aimed at assessing the effect of hypotensive versus conventional resuscitation strategies in traumatic hemorrhagic shock patients on mortality, and the need for blood transfusions including adverse events. METHODS: This systematic review and meta-analysis were performed following the PRISMA guidelines. Electronic databases were searched for randomized controlled trials (RCT) comparing the effect of hypotension versus conventional fluid resuscitation for traumatic hemorrhagic shock patients. Two reviewers independently performed the screening, data extraction, and bias assessment. The data analysis was completed using the Cochrane Collaboration's software RevMan 5.4. RESULTS: Data from 28 RCTs on 4503 patients were included in the final meta-analysis. Patients receiving hypotension fluid resuscitation compared with conventional fluid resuscitation experienced less mortality (12.5% vs. 21.4%; RR = 0.58; 95% CI: 0.51-0.66; p < 0.001), fewer adverse events (10.8% vs. 13.4%; RR = 0.70; 95% CI: 0.59-0.83; p < 0.001), including fever acute respiratory distress syndrome (7.8% vs. 16.8%) or multiple organ dysfunction syndrome (8.6% vs. 21.6%). CONCLUSIONS: This meta-analysis showed that hypotensive fluid resuscitation significantly reduced the mortality of hypovolemic shock patients. Findings are low in certainty and should be interpreted with caution. Therefore, there is an urgent need for larger, multicenter, randomized trials to confirm these findings.

BACKGROUND: The outcomes of out-of-hospital cardiac arrest (OHCA) patients are poor. In some OHCA cases, the reason is potentially reversible cardiac or aortic disease. It was suggested previously that high-quality cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) followed by extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) support may improve the grave prognosis of OHCA. However, extended CPR (ECPR) with ECMO application is an extremely invasive and cutting-edge procedure. The purpose of this article is to describe how high-fidelity medical simulation as a safe tool enabled implementation of the complex, multi-stage ECPR procedure. METHOD: A high fidelity simulation of OHCA in street conditions was prepared and carried out as part of a ECPR procedure implemented in an in-hospital area. The simulation tested communication and collaboration of several medical teams from the pre-hospital to in-hospital phases along with optimal use of equipment in management of a sudden cardiac arrest (SCA) patient. RESULTS: The critical and weak points of an earlier created scenario were collected into a simulation scenario checklist of ECPR algorithm architecture. A few days later, two ECPR procedures followed by cardiologic interventions for OHCA patients (one pulmonary artery embolectomy for acute pulmonary thrombosis and one percutaneous coronary artery angioplasty with drug eluting stent implantation for acute occlusion of the left anterior descending artery), were performed for the first time in Poland. The protocol was activated five times in the first 2 months of the POHCA Program. CONCLUSION: High fidelity medical simulation in real-life conditions was confirmed to be a safe, useful tool to test and then implement the novel and complex medical procedures. It enabled to find, analyze and solve the weakest points of the earlier developed theoretical protocol and eventually succeed in clinical application of complete ECPR procedure.
