RESUMEN

INTRODUCTION: Drug-induced aseptic meningitis (DIAM) has been reported as an uncommon adverse reaction to treatment, nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NAIDS) stand for most of the published cases. EXEGIS: Our observation reports the first case of a meningeal syndrome with fever, after the administration of ornidazole, with biological aseptic meningitis with lymphocyte prodominance. Spontaneous recovery occurred within a few days and without sequelae. It involved a patient with endocarditis and revealing an intramucous sigmoid adenocarcinoma. The rest of the infection tests was negative. CONCLUSION: We concluded that we were in the presence of a DIAM, with ornidazole as the most probable implicated agent. This diagnosis is suggested in front of a recurring meningeal syndrome without any other apparent etiology, hence the importance of the questioning of the patient. Pending objective evidence usually provided by rechallenge, an antibiotic therapy is necessary, because it is, above all, a diagnosis of exclusion.

RESUMEN

An open trial of synthetic salmon thyrocalcitonin was carried out in 8 cases of progressive and multifocal Paget's disease over a period of three months and at a dose of 80 MRC.U twice daily. A clinical improvement was seen in half the cases. The action was also marked upon laboratory parameters with, in particular, an average decrease in alkaline phosphatase of 51% and in urinary hydroxyproline levels of 29.4%.

RESUMEN

On the basis of a series of 30 personal cases, the authors describe the circumstances in which osteonecrosis of the femoral condyles occurs, the clinical and radiological characteristics, the evolution of the disease, and some of the associated therapeutic problems. They emphasize particularly the difference between the primary forms, which are the prerogative of women over 50 years of age and are of a limited character, and the secondary forms that are essentially linked to prolonged corticotherapy. The secondary forms are found in persons of both sexes between the ages of 20 and 40 years and consist of diffuse lesions (frequent extensive epiphyseal reorganization, bilaterality, and associations with other sites). As the evolution of the disorder under simple medical treatment is usually fairly favourable, the authors consider that indications for surgery should be restricted to the infrequent forms (10 to 15% of cases) that progress rapidly towards arthrosis.

RESUMEN

The effects of ketoprofen suppositories were studied in an open trial in 50 patients with various rheumatic disorders. A beneficial effect was obtained in many patients and this lasted for about 8 hours after administration. Mild local irritation was the commonest side-effect but seldom led to withdrawal of treatment.

RESUMEN

On the basis of a study of a series of 50 personal cases, the results of which are reported, and of a series of 2800 cases from the literature, the authors describe certain radiological and clinical aspects of primary hyperparathyroidism and the conditions under which this disease may appear. They emphasize the value of the different laboratory investigations for determining disturbances in phosphorus-calcium metabolism and of the study of bone histology, particularly the quantitative study of iliac bone biopsies. They discuss the various aspects of their methods of surgical treatment (pre-operative location of the tumour, surgical problems, early and later sequelae) and finally describe the indications for surgery.
