[Active oral health care for frail elderly people. An increasing responsibility]. / Proactieve mondzorg voor onzelfredzame ouderen. Een toenemende verantwoordelijkheid.

The number of elderly people in the Dutch society is increasing. As a result their number will grow in any dental practice. More elderly people keep (at least part of) their own dentition which requires pro-active oral health care. Ageing is associated with a greater prevalence of chronic diseases and disability. General self-care might decrease when frailty comes. As a consequence, problems with oral self-care will occur. Dental general practitioners have a responsibility to provide adequate oral care for their elderly patients. Information on their general medical conditions and the effects these might have on their oral health should be collected for individual oral health care programmes. Preventive and individual oral care programmes are recommended.

[Superficial pemphigus during the treatment of rheumatoid polyarthritis with D-penicillamine and piroxicam (Feldene)]. / Pemphigus superficiel apparu lors du traitement d'une polyarthrite rhumatoïde par D-pénicillamine et piroxicam (Feldène).

The authors report a new case of induced pemphigus: a 64-year-old man has had rheumatoid arthritis for 10 years. When he developed his pemphigus, he had been taking D-penicillamine and piroxicam for about 8 months. He needed high doses of prednisolone associated with azathioprine to clear his eruption. The case had a fatal outcome.

[Giant condyloma of the anus: tumor of Buschke-Loewenstein (author's transl)]. / Condylome acuminé géant de l'anus: tumeur de Buschke-Loewenstein.

The authors report a case of a Buschke-Loewenstein tumor located at the anus. Initial treatment with Bleomycin was remarkably effective. A recurrence 3 months later did not respond any more to Bleomycin. Multiple surgical resections were performed in association with this form of chemotherapy.
